A must do! Support this museum! Great live reenactment on stage and tour of a dungeon. It’s hard to believe that some were stuck in coffin sized cells for 2 years! In their own filth. It’s unimaginable. You get a real feel for what it was like. I highly recommend this attraction. AND at no point was I worried about covid! There were only 6 people. Please go!
Very unique fun experience. You start out by watching a live play. They use real quotes and words from Salem witch trials. This takes about 15 minutes. Then they lead you down stairs to the dungeons. These dungeons are made to look exactly like they use to be in 1670s. They show you how the accused lived in prison. As a bonus they have a real piece of wood from the actual witch dungeon. You can touch it if you dare. This is a family owned place and they put alot of work into this place to get it historically accurate. Would definitely reccomend as a must. Might be scary for younger kids as it is dark and might scare them.
PROS: The actresses were very good at playing out the roles of the witch trials. Also very affordable, good display since its in an old church, and the dungeon part really explains what took place when they were accused.CONS: The play was shorter than I would imagine and any time I called them to ask them about something; like hours, cost, and whats involved whoever works the phone seemed to be very snippy towards me. Making it seem Im not wanted.OVERALL: Definitely an attraction to come and see, i would not miss it if you go. It was my first time going so I decided to do this. Once you see this its like a one and done thing and you can move on your merry way
Nice experience, good price. Wish I had visited prior to Covid. Long wait time due to social distancing & such. Other wise was pretty cool.
We loved this place! The dungeon was super spooky and the reenactment was great! Although i wish the actors weren’t wearing masks it is hard to understand them a bit.
Prices for adult was $11. They allowed walk-ins. Toured the gift ship and they had the typical touristy stuff. Did a reenactment of a trial with some actresses and toured their basement where props are reconstructed into a dungeon. It was awesome to see some history behind them and the ending of the tour was the best in my opinion. Definitely check this place out.
We waited over an hour in line with no kind of update. Then there was a brief reenactment and then you are pushed through the mock dungeon in the basement. Cool exhibit but definately not worth the wait.
Cute show presentation at the beginning, but the rest is like a cheap haunted house (decorations are done poorly) without the scares. Only a piece of wood remains from the original dungeon. I guess what can you expect from such a long time ago series of events. Decent gift shop.
I have been 2 years in a row! I loved both scenes I got to experience and the actresses are wonderful. Down in the dungeon you learn about the experiences the accused had, and a beam from the original dungeon is there!! The tour is educational and the staff is willing to answer your questions without hesitation. They also have air conditioning which is a great break from the summer heat. That itself gets a 5 star rating from me!
Very informative and short play about one of the trials, dungeon tour was interesting. Definitely worth checking out if you are looking at places on the history of the witch trials.
Definitely a must do stop. Lots of great information and great things to see
Great performances and proud of how they handled the crowds with social distancing and masks. Well done and thank you!
The whole mask thing really took the actors down a notch, but it was still enjoyable. In the middle of the narrators speech, she stopped to say Ahhh. I got a fly in my eye. Naturally, I yelled out AFFLICTED. The crowd wasnt too amused and wanted to dunk me. The dungeon part was really murky. They give a lot of history about how the town handled people that they thought were witches.
Brought the family here to see how the trial played out for the people accused of witch craft. The actors were great and even though it was only our guides 2nd day she rocked it. My kids really enjoyed it. It was crazy how little proof they needed to convict someone. The dungeons were just so sad and such horrible conditions. Its amazing to see that stuff like that has been preserved though. Its a good education reenactment for kids.
Great live performance, which is a nice contrast to the more stationary exhibits, and no reservations required, its first come first served
Great for tourests and those with interest of the salem witch trials . You get to see the size of the cells they were kept in . Very interesting
Only museum we went to in Salem and it was really good! Got a feel for what people endured throughout this time. The woman leading the tour was really great. She td is the truth for what happened and was really knowledgeable about Salem with our addition questions. We just did this tour and it was $11. RECOMMEND. You get a re-enactment of the trials and then go in the “dungeon” where you get an idea of what the people went through who were placed in the dungeon. Recommend for sure! Kid friendly too!
Fun & informational Theres a short fun acting scene about a trial before the guide takes you down to the dungeon guides every knowledgeable & friendly learned a lot about how the jail system used to work. Fun set up fun time also the only museum with a real artifact from the time they have a beam from the real dungeon. 10/10
Not a bad experience for $13. You sit in the middle of a small auditorium and they have animatronics tell their stories during the Witch Crusades in Salem. The second part was very boring and became political real quick.
Amazing history here, loved it! Well worth the tour. And souvenir shop was great.
Fantastic tour. The gift shop was great. It was a wonderful visit
So I had a hard time finding the pricing online. Its $11 for the Witch dungeon and $25 for the package, which includes access to all three (but theres some kind of stipulation about going on different days?). The witch dungeon was good but quick. Maybe 30 mins. The tour consisted of a quick reenactment and a walk though a recreation of the witches dungeon. Fun if youre in the area
Very cool reenactment of a with trial, very informative.
Spooky to say the least. Although this isnt where the actual dungeon was, they did an awesome job at recreating. The reenactment of one of the trials was incredible yet cheesy at the same time. It is a must do in Salem and I will bring any visiting family members or friends back to this museum. Fantastic time and lesson.
Had a GREAT DAY here!!
Very neat informative nice staff ( went during covid) so it wasnt packed and you just feel like there would be more to it if not for the covid thing going on lol
Loved this place.great telling of events and loved the reenactment.
Ok, was needed to complete the salem experience but same story as the others.
They did a great job, especially given the circumstances of Covid
Very cool show and awesome host and informative
Not worth the money. You could not hear the actors with masks at all. Everything is a recreation. Do not waste your time on this exhibit. Not what I expected at all.
Nice show. Employees very eager to help and answer questions
I enjoyed learning some history about the trials. They put on a little reenactment of a part of the trials. Then they take you to the basement which is made to look like a street in Salem during the time period. It was a lot of fun. They also have a nice gift shop. If you like the history of Salem youll like this place.
The re-enactment should be more than 10 minutes and the dungeons should have a bit more information or a guided tour. Overall it’s ok but not worth $13 for what amounts to a 15 minute visit.
Lots of history. Dungeon in the basement was educational
Wow this was exciting!!!! So chilling and fun!
Wait was long but worth it!
Acting was crazy cool, love the historical background
Got a lovely little show where they re-enact a court case. Unbelievable the criteria needed to convict someone. Really cool place go see some history. The dungeons cool but its all about the case
I went here on my trip to Salem along with a few other museums, and I can safely say this was the best one. It included a reenactment and a tour of a replica of the dungeon where the victims of the Salem witch trial were kept (the original was torn down for a telephone company, as the tour guide explained). The actors in the reenactment were highly skilled and convincing in their parts, especially the woman playing the accused ‘witch’. The tour guide was also very engaging with her speech about the history of Salem’s witch trials and was highly knowledgeable. We were led down to the replica of the dungeon, which was spooky to say the least. It was dark and the fake dummies in the cells added to the effect and showed the horrible conditions accused ‘witches’ were kept in. Overall, it was satisfyingly creepy and educational tour, and if I ever happen to be in the area again I’ll definitely return.
We found this via a recommendation from a local. It was very cool and has some a small mock trial with a few actual actors at the beginning of the tour before going in to the dungeon area. Worth the time and money
AWESOME!!! Put this on your places to stop if visiting Salem. Very informative and entertaining. Showing a mock trial and the explaining about the Dungeon before taking you down to see.
The tour guide was very knowledgeable and kept our attention. There was a small play in beginning that was informative. Definitely worth going to.
Pretty good, a little reenactment if the court cases. Good guide. Actually talked about the history and then relates to commonly understood medicine today. Like PTSD. Very knowledgeable just in general one of the better one. That being said its still got the word full size do people that are depicting scenes from the time.
Informative. Shows the sizes of cells used...and conditions.
I wasnt sure what to expect here, but I enjoyed it. Theres a lot of theatrics, but theres a fair bit of history and interesting information in there, too. I visited in Halloween, though, so it was very busy. Avoid on that day, but otherwise worth a visit.
The actors were great but it was literally less than 30min. I guess the money goes towards the upkeep of the dungeon but we were led downstairs and i thought it would be another experience...we just walked (too fast) in an L shape and out a exit! Not worth it. I hope you guys add a little to this show for the amount you charge. The stage is beautiful and your actors were great. Needs to be expanded. Kind of wanted a refund.
Not what I expected but it be cool for kids
For the price to enter the establishment you would think they would have added more elements to the production. I enjoyed the opening of the trial, but when you actually entered the dungeon there wasnt much in terms of details and history. And the smell was rather strong down stairs
Very fun but kind of short
I highly recommend this museum. First hand I saw what the victims from the 1692 witch hunt had to endured while imprisoned. You get an entertaining full of historical value re-enactment of the trial first hand before moving to the dungeon where the prisons cells are. Overall, it was a great historical museum, with an upbeat kick to it.
Very nice museum. Well staffed. Staff was friendly and knowledgeable.
Very interesting tour perfect for any witch trial buff.
Been coming to Salem pretty much every year around October since 2009 and always make sure to stop here along with 2 other museums included in their bundle (totally worth getting the bundle). The Witch dungeon puts on small reenactment of a witch trial thats very informative and acted out very well. There generally 2-3 actresses and they always do a fantastic job. Afterwards youre taken downstairs to see a recreation of the cells suspected witches and criminals were held in back in those days. Its entreating and educational experience.
It was cool to see the dungeon but the 15 minute play could have been longer.
Nice experience. Although the whole experience takes half an hour at the most.. we started with a reenactment of a witch trial played by two members of staff at the museum which was ok. The dungeon area downstairs was the better part for us as it still has an original piece of the dungeon and makes for a more realistic depiction of what the dungeon would have looked like. Just wished it had a little more to see to make the experience take longer than 30 minutes.
They give a short depiction of the trial of Sarah Good, a homeless woman accused of being a witch who was hung. They then bring you into the basement which is a replica of the jail and dungeon. Yes the mannequins are corny and in bad shape but the history was solid and the tour guide was very good. Such a sad history.
Visited Salem for a weekend with my mom from Jersey. We visited this along with a bunch of other museums. Our favorite thing was when they took us down to the dungeon and really showed what the accused used to go through. Got tons of fun pictures.
By far, this was my favorite presentation while in Salem. I enjoyed the live acting of court transcripts, as well as seeing how the dungeons would have looked if they still existed today. They have done a wonderful job in recreating the actual dungeons from the 17th century.
Great reenactment but would have been better with more actors.
The play at the beginning definitely opened your eyes to some knowledge that you didn’t know/don’t hear about the trials. I really enjoyed the play and the tour of the dungeon. It was definitely eye opening to see how the accused were treated and how this all potentially started. It’s a must see when you’re in town
Was an ok tour. Live witch trial was kinda cool. Pretty much gives the same info as the witch museum
This was very informative. They have a cool dungeon.
Loved it. It was a great piece of history. The tour guide was upbeat, informative, and had a great sense of humor. I have referred friends to go here already!
Very cool experience. Did not expect the whole basement setup. Really well executed.
Like others, enjoyed the brief historical context shared in the beginning, then found it interesting and saddening to learn about the capitalist prison cell system and grim size of the smallest.
Good food and good people
For the options in Salem, this was my favorite historic museum. Our tour guide was well spoken, gave good information and this tour lent new information that other spots didn’t have.It ended a little abruptly but other than that we enjoyed ourselves.
This was a very informative stop on our visit to Salem really enjoyed the tour
Of all the museums in Salem that we paid to go through this was the only one worth the money. We enjoyed a live performance of a Salem witch trials followed by a trip to the basement to view a replica of the dungeon where the accused witches were forced to stay.
Good: The live show was enjoyable. The staff was kind.Bad: the live show was too short and only had two actors and they were speaking to mannequins.Side note: I was so sad to hear the original witch dungeon was tore down and this was just a replica.
This place was awesome! After looking at options, we decided to do this one- it was the right choice!!! The actress who opened the re-enactment was phenomenal! She really helped put the days leading up to/ during the trials. The actresses who payed Anne Puttman and Sarah Hood were great as welll! The walk-through the re-created dungeon was great and again the leader of the tour/reenactment was phenomenal. I just wish they would offer a free The walk-through the re-created dungeon was great and again the leader of the tour/reenactment was phenomenal. I just wish they would offer a longer reenactment ( as another attraction of course)
Great and very sad history
The customer serviceI purchased 4 tickets. I was not allowed to use the employee restroom even though I told them (3 employees present) I was close to having an accident minutes before the show. They told me to use the visitor’s center’s restroom down the street. I couldn’t find it (not from here) so I just raced into a nearby restaurant’s restroom. I’m Mexican with dark skin which is most likely why I was not allowed to use their restroom. 0 out of 5 stars. Note: They do not take AMEX and they do not have a military discount. And no public restrooms. The showLasts five minutes. The judge and jury are wax figures. Only two actors total: the accused and the accuser. 2 out of 5 stars. The dungeons:Not even close to the quality of a Ripley’s museum but it is effective. It is a reconstruction not the original location of the dungeon. 2 out of 5 stars.Overall:1 out of 5 stars. Overpriced. Poor customer service. Spend your time and money elsewhere.
Great guides and informative exhibits. Definitely recommend getting the ticket that lets you also see the Witch History and New England Pirate museums as well!
Of all the touristy historical places I liked this one best.
Its not worth the money in my opinion. I was pretty disappointed. The short play was ok, however there is not much to see in the dungeon.
Like the many other museums in town, they value teaching through live performance. The difference here is that this one uses the official court transcript of an exchange between Elizabeth Proctor and her servant Mary Warren. After the show, you can go down into the dungeon and see an original beam from the actual Salem prison, along with to-size replicas of many of the cells used during the witch trials. The dungeon itself is just a short exhibit with badly done manikins posed in different scenes, the highlight being the original beam from Salem prison. The replica cells create an eerie feeling when you imagine how many people were imprisoned at a time, so its a unique opportunity to put yourself in the mind of the prisoner.Overall, nothing came together into the truly creepy experience I was hoping for, but it was exteremely cool to see the real beam and hear the real transcript performed as a live show.
Very cool museum. Its not the original site of the dungeon, that was flooded and destroyed many, many moons ago, but they recreated the cells that held the victims, and they were absolutely horrific, especially the one they call “The Coffin Cell.” Where the prisoner didn’t even have enough room to sit. They did however, manage to save a wooden beam from the original dungeon, and it holds all of the secrets, and cries and sorrow from the poor people held there during the witch trials. So they say if you rest your hand on this beam it brings you luck, perhaps its the energy of the people who suffered in the dungeon’s horrific conditions. I for one, who am sensitive to strong emotions, felt immediate sadness and heartbreak when i put my hand on it.
Best stop on the witch tour. The live reenactment was cool and the dungeon gives a good idea of how times were back then. The guides were informative and nice.
Definitely worth the $10 to see the play and the dungeon. Loved the actors and getting to go downstairs.
I really enjoyed the trial reenactment at the beginning of our tour, the actors really sold the historically accurate dialog. While I dont think this should be called a museum, due to their being only one actual artifact (which was really neat), it still provided me with a lot of information regarding a few of the witch trials. The basement portion of the tour was creepy, and I loved it!
Good re-enactment. I thought there would be more actors, but they used wax manekins instead.
Very interesting. Great attraction while visiting Salem with the family.
The most entertaining show in Salem. The actresses are engaging and informative. The rest of Salem seemed to be quite dated and although its a reenactment of one of the trials, its still more interesting than other locations similar offerings
Again, a quick museum. Should give patrons more time.
There is a very short reenactment of a witch trial from 1692 historical transcripts, it would have been much better is everyone on the stage was a real person. The replica jail cells in the dungeon were very interesting. All in all, if your interested in the witch trials, this is a good stop.
The reenactment is definitely worth seeing. The actresses are phenomenal. The only thing I would criticize is the lack of guides in the dungeon part . I have been before but today for some reason there were no guides to answer questions about the exhibits.
If you go to Salem make sure you go here!! Very sad things that happens there so many years ago and I cried after the tour. Humans allow fear to rule their emotions and Ben terrible things happen :(
Learned the history of what really happened at the witch trials.... They have a theater and you get to walk replace dungeons
Very cool interesting story told via play like setting. The actresses played a very convincing role making what you see very believable. Worth your time and money to see.
All reenactments without factual information. Over priced for what it was.
