Fun stop on our road trip to stretch the legs. I was shocked at how clean the park and grounds were. Cleanest public bathrooms I have ever seen! We loved seeing the craftsmen working on new horses. It was simple fun.

The carousel is a great place to visit for all ages. It is pet friendly as long as they can behave. You never know what kind of pets you’ll meet here! The hand-carved horses and other animals, have a lot of fine details to them. They are beautiful! There are horses that don’t move for those that don’t like the movement. The carousel is also wheelchair accessible. The horses are rotated out depending on the holiday, new additions, and those that need maintenance. There is a separate party room that can be rented. The carousel is kept extremely clean. Don’t forget a walk through of the gift shop to the carvers room. You can sometimes catch one of the craftsmen working on the animals for the carousel.

Going to the Salem waterfront and Carousel is a really nice outing. The carousel is beautiful, and we bought several nice gifts in their gift shop. The walk along the waterfront is quite lovely, and I especially like to walk on the old train trestle that is now a walking bridge over the Willamette River. There are many nice spots along the waterfront that you can picnic and there is a little water-spout park for the kids.

The details on every single frog, horse or any other seat on this carousel is amazing! The craftsmanship is top notch and fun for all ages. I went with my uncle and daughter and rode about 3 times. The surrounding area is beautiful and lush right next to the river. Definitely a must if youre visiting or live in the area.

Beautiful riverfront park location & the carousel was very detailed. The gift shop had lots of fun stuff, even a wide variety of things under $10. In a room off the gift shop people were hand carving new figures of a bull & a Oregon duck for the ride. One of the staff members welcomed us in, shared some fun details about projects. Were were then lead to another room where they were hand painting a new dragon figure. Were got a free baggie of wood chips from the Dragon being carved as a neat souvenir. Staff was very friendly and obviously carried a lot pride.

Wonderful place to visit! The gift shop also has the woodworking area where you can see the newest Carousel pieces in progress. They have cold ice cream case as well. There are two Penny squishing machines located near the carousel. There is another section of the workshop where they paint the carousel pieces and access to that is on the outside of the building. Weve been here 3 times now and theres always been an Icee and popcorn vendor. Free parking in the parking area which is also shared by a playground.

What’s not to love about this carousel? Great people working there. We tend to get popcorn and cotton candy. But of course the main attraction is the carousel, with its painstakingly crafted horses, the occasional giraffe, cow, frog, etc., seem to the kids to have personalities. We stop in regularly when we are in the area and come to visit for events, like Santa Claus arriving by train. The gift shop has brilliant buyers and is always a good place to get just the right present. The playground outside is a nice treat too, and it’s right on the Willamette river.

The people running the carousel were extremely friendly and put my skittish son at ease. It was open past any other kid friendly to-do in the area and was inexpensive as well. Because it was indoors we were able to escape the cold weather, and the carousel was beautiful and well maintained.

We had lots of fun on this lovely restored carousel by the river in Salem. We bought a punch card good for 20 rides which was a good value. The punches we didnt use are waiting for the next grand kids to come visit. The part is pretty and the walk along the river was nice. The parking lot to the south of the carousel was very small so we had trouble finding a spot. Theres a larger lot farther away, though if you dont mind the walk. Cute little gift shop and nice restrooms in the building. The childrens playground is a pretty far walk away. Wish it was closer for the little ones.

Always fun for my 5 year old to take a ride when we go to the riverfront park playground. Warning if you dont carry cash: they have a $5 card minimum so you have to buy 4 tokens ($6) at once. Its a minor annoyance for us, we come to the park pretty regularly so just save extras for the next trip.

We are huge fans of this place - for children still in touch with that sense of imagination, there is just something magical about an old-school carousel like this that is preserved so well, and that runs beautifully and then gives a really nice experience. We love to support, everyone is really nice. Highly recommended.

My younger sister and I took my 2.5 year old nephew to the carousel for the first time. We rode twice and both times the lady that worked there was so rude. My sister even made a comment on our way home “she was nice to all the other kids but us” I even said “Thank you” as we walked passed her and she ignored me and asked the child behind me for a high 5.

Super cool. Rides are only $1 or $1.50 and the gift shop has very interactive toys. We also enjoy peeking in the window at the paint shop. This is not just for kids. The have very big horses for adults and a frog and a graff and a dragon ect. They even have a covered wagon that you just sit in so its fun for all!! Cotton candy, penny smash souvenirs and its at the park so a playground picnic and right by river. Very cool!!

Review №47

It was fun and the kids enjoyed riding the carousel. It was well kept up and clean. My 3 year old loved the little horses. The older lady in the gift shop however was incredibly rude. My mother and I simply asked for 2 nice shiny carousel tokens because we wanted to save them as souvenirs and she acted like we had asked her for the moon. It apparently was unimaginably difficult to hand us 2 shiny tokens when we bought 10 ride tokens and there were no other customers in the gift shop.

Its fun for the kids. The park area is nice. The carousel is well taken care of. The in and out of the carousel is kind of hard to follow. I think the entrance should be on one side and the exit the other. Right now they are near each other and with parents standing around taking pictures it gets a bit crowded in that area. Worth a ride on a nice day so you can also go out and play in the park and or take a walk on the trails.

Beautiful carousel. $1.50 per ride. Seats on the carousel for riders of all ages. Many that ride up and down, and others that are stationary. Stop in the paint shop and watch volunteers working on new additions for the Carousel. Visit the (surprisingly reasonably priced) gift shop. Facility also has a party room available for rent. Just outside the carousel is a park, trails to the river, open areas for picnic and play, and a splash pad. Walking distance to the Gilbert House Museum and downtown Salem. Parking in the closest lot directly in front of the carousel is limited, but there is plenty of street parking and other parking lots nearby. Restroom on site.

We had our 3 year olds birthday party here. Wonderful people and easy reservations. She absolutely loved the carousel and the party room was great. We recently went ice skating at the Salem On Ice tent that shows up yearly during the cold months. Loved it! Always a lot of activities happening at the carousel and park.
