Terrific local theater with very kind hosts. Watched a Dennis Johnson show tonight before dinner and the acoustics and sound were amazing in this theater. We got the opportunity to sit up real close to the performer, and enjoyed almost two hours of fantastic musicianship. The theater also shows plays, which I am excited to check out.
Loved the experience. Nice size. Seating had drink holders centered. Would have liked to have seen the restrooms closer and not in the other side of the concession area. Parking garage directly behind made easy access.
My wife and I have been season ticket holders for years and love the venue and the art they present. Its come a long way from when we would be crowded into a small theater that was actually on B Street and players would pause while the trains passed behind the building. Of course there have been some plays that we considered eh (think Hand of God) but we keep coming back because they always give us an opportunity to pause and initiate a conversation.
We enjoyed a swashbuckling performance of Treasure Island. We attend all the family series through school and enjoy the fantastic sets and fun performances! The new theater is gorgeous and allows for more elaborate shows. The classes for teens are also excellent! My son has taken the improv/acting class and loved the instructors.
This is an AMAZING theatre!!! I’ve been here for four productions since I moved to the Sac area from Oakland a year ago, and I am quite impressed. The acting, lighting, stage setup, and theatre quality are absolutely outstanding. I am very impressed with this playhouse - honestly it’s on par with the Berkeley Rep. Definitely go see a show here, they’re wonderful!!!
Amazing venue. Was there as a speaker for Sacramento F-up nights and had a great experience. The venue staff are very cool and accommodating, the space is amazing and its located fairly close to light rail which is a bonus. This theater is a bright spot in the growing Sacramento arts and culture scene. We
We saw the play Popcorn Falls which was hilarious. The actors portrayals of the many zany characters were masterful and convincing. I would recommend this play to anybody who wants a delightful night out.
This is a beautiful venue in Sacramento. Not a bad seat in the house and seats 250 or 365 depending on theatre. Plenty of parking outside and close to some dining places nearby. Overall a nice experience and highly recommended to check out.
B-STREET THEATRE IS GREAT!! WONDERFUL ACCOMMODATIONS, FRESH,NEW, CLEAN FACILITIES, INCLUDING A BAR PROVIDING YOUR CHOICE OF BEVERAGES JUST STEPS FROM THE SEATING PERFORMANCES-THIS LOCALE HIGHLY RECCOMENDED-HAS PARKING FACILITIES HOUSED W/IN THE SAME BUILDING.
I have so much fun when I can go! My friend has a pass and frequently sees the shows (and takes me - yay!). Surely I have laughed a lot here. You definitely develop favorite actors. The new theater is gorgeous and parking is not that bad especially if youre willing to get a little leg-stretching walk in. Im looking forward to seeing more plays.
We love the classes that are offered here. This is the second time my daughter has participated in the class and she has really enjoyed it. She loves the theater and this has been a great experience. The facility is outstanding and the instructors great.
Ive been to the Sofia for a concert, play reading & a play .All were fantastic experiences. I love the atmosphere people, acoustics, bar, venue & seats.
This is a lovely theater and the performers are all very professional. All theatres are wheelchair accessible. Depending on the show, you could bring children here easily. We should all support our local theatre arts.
Nice not too big not small at all. Parking garage very close. Need more live music jazz and/or stage plays
Always have a really good line up of shows. Great new interior. Nice layout with good vantage points from every seat. Intimate capacity, nice bar.
This new building is designed so pleasantly for the B Street. Very clean! They have a bar and walking distance to restaurants. Great location and perfect for a family trip or date night.
Its a nice intimate place. Every seat is a good seat. Its clean and the staff members are very friendly and helpful.
The Sophia is without a doubt THE best venue for music shows in Sacramento. With a 350 person capacity there isnt a bad seat in the house!
Great theatre..still smells new. the short film was awesome. Great service. parking is scarce, be prepared to walk if you parking space isnt close or pay to park in nearby garage. Im looking forward to attending future events.
I love the Sophia center. We are season ticket holders and it never ceases to amaze us.great venue great plays!
I went here to watch a night vale show. The acoustics were great, and we had a comfortable show. The room was climate controlled, and had a great seating layout.
This was our first visit to The Sophia. Great venue...I dont think theres a bad seat. Looking forward to the next visit. I do hope the carpet gets replaced before too long. Its seen better days, but thats not why people come here. Support the arts!
Great venue, other than the bar being left unattended while there are performances happening and thirsty guest. I was told that there were 2 bartenders and both went to pull more supplies from the back.. for shame
Tool my daughter for a daddy daughter date. We had a blast. Saw Wizard of Oz
We saw The Stand-Up Guy with Jack Gallagher his life story. The theater was small so we were close to him. All seats were comfortable and from all seats it was easy to see him. We thought it would be a comedy show but it was not.
While the staff at the theater today were lovely, I was appalled by the blatant attack on our childrens innocence in regards to our right as parents to choose when to teach our children about the new movement among transgendered people to call themselves by pronouns other than he or she. Following the Sword in the Stone play, during the Q&A many kids were surprised to realize that many of the male characters in the play were actually women in real life. The female actress explained how she had played a different part but that she refers to herself with the pronouns she and her.... next the Wizard in the play who was cast as a male but wore high heels and acted very effeminate during the play, loudly declared to the audience of 4th graders and under My name is ----- and I prefer the pronouns THEY and THEM!!Taking school children to see a play, should NOT include indoctrination of multiple gender All parents of children in attendance today should be notified of the choice your company made without warning the attending schools first.
Lovely space and great acts. Cant wait to go back.
Went to see Seekers of the Strange tonight. Hilarious show, my cheeks hurt from laughing so much! The actors and actresses were fantastic. The setting was intimate and cozy but not jam packed. Affordable tickets. Delicious mixed drinks helped loosen us up. We had a great time. Special thanks to Tara for letting me know this existed! Cant wait to come watch the next episode.
The Sofia is a great venue to see live performances. Enjoyed, On An Open Fire, a hilarious play about decision making, parenting, and karma.
Best seating & acoustics in Sacramento region. Very good shows ... reasonably priced.
Wow! Going to this theater was the highlight of my trip to Sacramento. I ended up catching two shows here and both were wonderful and entertaining.
The Sofia Tsakopoulos Center for the Arts, home of The B Street Theater, is amazing. I have been to the B Street Theater many times but this is a whole other dimension; spacious, luxurious, state-of-the-art and welcoming. I attended a musical presentation with the Oakland Jazz Choir recently and it was amazing, made especially better by the fact that the theater is equipped with a full-on top-notch Meyer Sound system. What an incredible staff; welcoming, enthusiastic and cheerful. I love this place and will go back as often as I can. I traveled from the Bay Area to see the Oakland Jazz Choir and their performance was fantastic.
The new B st. theater is simply amazing. The stunning exterior is mirrored inside as well. The grand entrance gives way to the open expanses of the full bars seating area. Those of you who asked for larger restroom facilities have got your wish. Theres even a place to check your coat or cape! The new Sophia theater includes 2 theater stages. The 250 seat main stage reminiscent of the old B st. theater and the 365 seat Sutter theater for children. So far Ive only been in the mainstage theater and its even better than I imagined. The maiden production, One Man, Two Guvnors, is hilariously funny and entertaining. This outstanding adapted production of Servant of Two Masters includes 13 of B sts great cast. It is an absolute must see and I highly recommend it. The company had extend this great play thru March 11th, because of popular demand. The new Sophia is not quite finished, but its well worth the five stars I gave it. I absolutely love the new theater and look forward to watching it grow.~TOPHATT~As always please like this review if it was helpful to you. As a local guide your likes are important to me.
Enjoyed the New venue last night for the first time. The new place is great!!
I agree with many, no Bad seats and its a small venue. Loved it!But id like to warn others, dont leave anything in your car of value. It was easy to find parking. Right along side of a church and across from the tea House cafe.We returned to smashed rear window, along with several other vehicles. Bad ending to a good time at the Sofia. Maybe parking garage is best.
They always put on the highest quality shows. The sets are incredible and the acting is always top notch!
Nice seating arrangement. Helped us get our seats next to each other.
Great venue. No bad seats. A bar and the ability to bring your cocktail into the venue. Oh and parking right next door. Right off the freeway. What more can you ask for?
Such a great space. Sacramento is blessed to gave such a truly cool venue.
As a performer, the venue rocks. It looks to me like Sacramento finally got a real music and arts venue.
The current show On An Open Fire deals with the age old conundrum for adults answering a childs quiery, Is Santa real? The results have unexpecte twists and turns. Its a lively, fast paced, fun and entertaining show. A good choice for the holiday season.
Acoustics are great. They have interesting performers. The seats are comfortable. Overall pleasant modern venue.
Mick Martin Big Band - sold out show!!! Awesome
Stunning, state of the art theater with 3 stages. The few shows Ive seen here this far have been wonderful. Excellent production values. I prefer seeing shows here to Wells Fargo theater and Sac Community Center theaters.
Great music and great shows all around gem of a theater.. Come in and enjoy the experience.
I have been in the big theater and the small conference room upstairs. This place is very nice, comfortable, great acoustics and very clean. Highly recommend seeing anything here
Good players. All seats so far great. Very friendly staff.
What a wonderful place
Beautiful new space. But... I went for a Mandy Harvey concert and when my husband called to see if there would be interpreters (the performer is deaf), the person on the phone had no idea and said well we usually dont.... It wasnt until my husband said but the performer is deaf so... that the worker went to check. First off, any time you have accessibility features, advertise it! People wont go if you dont. Second, educate employees about access features so if people call, theyre not immediately turned off by idk but probably not. When we arrived (for the concert with a deaf performer) they didnt have interpreters or other visual access. Instead people immediately started speaking to people entering. While there werent many deaf attendees, this was a major turn off as I entered, especially given the idk we probably wont have interpreters my husband told me about from his phone conversation. Then, the assistant director who welcomed the performer to the stage started talking before the interpreter was in place. This is always a bad practice but an even more egregious issue when the performer is deaf!Educate employees and be sensitive to access needs and youll get a lot more people willing to go to your theatre.
Excellent place for a more intimate setting. So much better than thousands of people. And they asked about ADA accommodation when I bought my tickets. That definitely made the evening more enjoyable.
March 9 we saw Dolls House 2. Saw it in NY and actually liked this one better. Set and direction fine and actors outstanding every role strong. Why no 5 stars? Everyone does not enjoy being surrounded in theater by jolly drinkers.
Fantastic beautiful theater. Saw a horrific horrible show (Mania) there but theater is fine.
Nice intament theater.. Do not think theres a bad seat in the house.
Great modern theater venue that has a eclectic selection of shows. Traditional theater, Shows for kids, and comedic improv are just some of the offerings available at this location. Ive enjoyed myself every time I have attended an event here.
Great view and acoustics no matter where you sit. Comfortable seating and nice crowds.
I attended this, for my first, as part of my kids class field trip. The play was based on the civil rights movement. What a great production! The cast was amazing and there was a Q&A sessions for the students afterwards. It was awesome to see how into the play these 3rd graders were and even more awesome giving them more knowledge with the Q&A.
Enjoyed another fantastic evening at the Sofia, watching a B Street Theater production. I love having a world-class theater group within walking distance of my home. The new space is glorious and really allows the performers a much broader venue to display their talents!
Great one man show..insightful..a man who did what he wanted and remembered his lessons, saved his calendar and validated the significance of being a thriving comic..charming, fun and funny!!
Great new theater. Well done. Great performance.
I took my fifth graders for a field trip. Their new venue is superb. So much more comfortable and roomy. We had a great time. Very engaging!
Beautiful theater, quality performances but if you have issues with perfume or strong scents dont go!
We have been season ticket holders since seeing Timothy Busfield in The Motor Trade during the 1998 season. You cannot beat the price. The quality of the productions is top notch. Their new theater is splendid.
Great venue. Drinks in REAL glasses. Good acoustics, but bad mixing at the show we attended.
Excellent theater, not a bad seat in the house, very new facility, loved the show!
Fantastic little venue! I am giving 5 stars due to the experience I had there at the emerging artists showcase. This is not a formal theatre experience. Expect to spend $6-15 per drink. Everything is contemporary, clean and well staffed.
The show was fantastic and tickets price was fair. Drinks and food was nice and seating arrangement was good. Sound system was nice and I like the place and the service of this place.
Great atmosphere to watch a show or concert.
The Sophia (B. St. Theatre) is a brand new building (2018), housing 2 large, but intimate auditoruims hosting live music and professional performing arts shows. Convenient parking right next door.
Watched A Christmas Carol yesterday. Funny. Intimate. Theres not a bad seat in the house. Membership is the way to go. Great way to introduce your kids to professional theatre that isnt boring. They also support the community because our tickets were won at our schools Craft Fair raffle. We will be back for Wizard Of Oz. Our new family Christmas tradition.
Great stage and awesome concert with Mandy Harvey. Definitely will go to future concerts.
This place was amazing staff was very cool and down to earth
Great play.. Sherlock Holmes, all the seats are nice with good views. Not a huge theater which I like as well. Good time all around.
Great show, fun day. The place was packed, every seat was full. Wonderful way to spend Mothers day.
Intimate size theatre. Comfortable with concierge style engaging employees
This new theater is gorgeous! Quality construction and a bar for the older crowd!
Lovely new theater! The highly venerated B-Street theater in Sacramento has a new location on Capitol avenue. Its a state-of-the-art, beautiful venue with garage parking right next door off of 27th Street. The staff is very friendly and the production company is known for highly professional productions. Their bathrooms are very nice and clean, and they have a full bar with friendly tenders.
What a great intimate place. Wonderful seating and sound.
Great addition to sacramento cultural sceneBeautifulGood acoustics
Wht a delightful little theater. The seats were roomy and comfortable. Sound quality was great. I went with my nephews class for a production of Charlottes Web. I noticed they will be doing The Wizard of Oz in December. Well be back for that one Im sure.
Beautiful theatre and great actors and shows.
Saw The Forever Question. Pure, high quality entertainment! Wed not been to B Street for awhile... Theystill got it! & then some!
Amazing time! Venue is awesome. Sacramento was amazing. Definitely coming back (and I see John Waite is coming back)
Fun place to go with the kids
Visited new theater. Beautiful! Was in training as a volunteer, did not see a performance therefore cannot comment on acoustics. Complex houses three stages: 365 seats, 250 seats, and 110 (standing room). Yet peeking in small stage, three rows of chairs were set up. Appears enough to set up a few more 10-15 across. Definitely smaller than 365 and 250 stages.Smallest stage is upstairs. There are bathrooms on second floor as well. Bar is located on first floor. Cafe soon should be open, located across enclosed patio.Seating area for wheelchairs near stage.
Great little theater! They have a membership program I plan on signing up for that gives you plays a year for 20 a month.
Beautiful facility, nice intimate theatre, comfortable seats, nice bathrooms, elevator for the upper floor and close to a parking structure and cafe.
Saw The Forever Question. Super funny, talented actors, interacted with audience. Beautiful theater.
