Good collections on display, especially enjoy the California art and artists. I am a member and live across the street with a view of the contrasting old and new parts, visiting every weekend when it was open recently. Please help support this city gem during this awful pandemic!
My husband and I went here on a date before we got married. It was absolutely amazing. Looks small on the outside, but the inside has so much to offer. From natural history and artifacts to modern art sculptures, it’s a place for everyone. My absolute favorite room was the ballroom. My husband and I even danced in the room and it was where we fell in love. I’m definitely coming back!
Good socially distanced exhibit. I thought these were good examples of reflected light form diferent genres and styles
Yeah for having the Crocker Art Museum open again!! Just enjoyed the Wayne Thiebaud exhibition celebrating his 100th birthday. What a wonderful jewel for the Sacramento community
We have come back to this museum on so many occasions as the art is just so compelling and well chosen! :)
Very nice and touche lots of things to do with the bois
Exceptional museum and one of Sacramentos finest cultural centers. The range and depth of the Crockers collection rivals those of even the largest museums. The integration of the Crocker Mansion into the museum is spectacular and really gives you a taste of life in the 1800s. Go and go often!
It is a beautiful museum. It used to belong to one of the richest families in California until it was donated.
My favorite museum in Sacramento. I have visited dozens of times in my life and I fall in love every time. Shocking mix of an old Victorian mansion and a clean white state of the art modern annex. Chock full of a wide range of art styles, mediums and age.
Go. Now. The art is fantastic, especially the European paintings. I spent 4 hours in here and I didnt even feel it. There is so much to see and so much to learn. I could spend so much more time here. It was a fantastic experience.
Best place to BUY LOCAL interesting holiday gifts reasonably priced.
Very nice museum! Used to be a mansion and was converted. They kept the ballroom. Its gorgeous! Kid friendly too. Parking is sparse so figure that out before you go. People were very friendly and the gift shop has cool items for sale. I really enjoyed it.
Wow, so many beautiful things you can see there from different countries and cultures,I was very impressed. Will definitely come again.and the food at the cafe was delicious...
This was a fun museum to check out in Sacramento. There are exhibits for every kind of art lover. My personal favorite was the ballroom, which was decorated and restored beautifully. If you’re visiting the city for the first time I would say this museum is a must
Not a huge art fan, but there were some interesting pieces to view. The Richard Jackson exhibit was particularly odd - may want to skip if you have young kids with you. Some of the older artwork is impressive, and definitely take time to go into the old Crocker house - the building is quite extraordinary, check out the size and thickness of the beautiful wood doors.
I attended an exhibit here of the Early California artist, Granville Seymour Redmond. The exhibit was well organized and the paintings were professionally exhibited and documented. There were also information panels with the artists biographical information. The only criticism I would give is that there were too few museum staff. I observed one 8-9 year old child going up and touching the paintings and possibly damaging them (I dont know). I admonished his distracted father, who seemed apologetic and then tried to restrain his son. There was no staff around.
A very well maintained museum with lots of art - modern, Asian, early Californian, European etc.. Lots of instagram-worthy picture opportunities... Third Sunday of every month is free and donate what you wish... If youre in the area, its totally worth a visit.. its near the capitol building and lots of pretty parks nearby...
I liked the curation a lot! Most artworks description has an “looking out for” field that points to something interesting to keep me occupied. The “old” part of the museum has pretty interior.
This place is awesome! There is so much to see and itll take around 3 hours to see everything at a comfortable pace. Make sure you take a break in their Cafe and grab a drink. They have sparkling apple juice!
If you are an art lover, which I am, this is a must see. Every couple of months the museum adds new exhibits. Theres always something new to see when I go on the 3rd Sunday every month. Its pay as you wish day. On the side of each of art work is information regarding the piece. Im learning something new, while enjoying a beautiful piece of art.
The staff are friendly and quite helpful! Each exhibit is well arranged. Check online or flyers for exhibit info. It is worth going!I will warm you that the parking in some of the lots has a quirk: as of this writing, the meter in front of your parking space is NOT the one you pay and isnt always clearly marked.A couple years ago I payed the meter and the $42 ticket.
Absolutely beautiful art pieces, I could spend all day here! I dont recommend bringing young children unless you go to a special kids event, its a lot of walking and may be boring for younger kids. So many varying types of art, amazing! Plus outside sculptures and a nice nature area.
Not even the biggest fan of museums but this place was super cool. Great building, unique and interesting collections from different cultures, delicious food. Not huge but very high quality.
This is a great museum. Near old town Sac and the river. Rotating shows keep you coming back. The Crocker mansion is sort of wrapped into a modern set of galleries. Their permanent contemporary ceramics collection is amazing.
For a small art museum, the Crocker never fails to satisfy. The roving exhibits are wonderful, but the real bones of the Crocker are what makes it a place to love. Go see for yourself, and then go back when the sights evolve. You wont be sorry!
This is one of my favorite places in Sacramento to go for not only inspiration but for beautiful unusual bizarre you name it. Art from around the world and from past eras. Its great to learn about the history of the previous owners and when you realize at some point youre in what used to be a home the feeling is amazing to see the gems they left behind. Try to see as much as you absolutely can. It is totally worth it. There is also a cafe in the building I had the Hearts of Palm salad and my friend had the Asian noodles. We also added a plate of fruit and a glass of wine a great experience!
Fabulous Museum with wide representation of art periods, ethnicities, and artists. Staff and Security are pleasant and interested in helping guests have a superior visit. The store has an interesting selection of products, including delightful Klimdt luminaries.
Went today for the first time and the museum was fantastic! There are so many wonderful displays to see from modern art to 16th century oil paintings to pottery from the Han Dynasty. I was so impressed by the wide array of artwork to see. We had a tour guide who was so enthusiastic about his job and made it very interesting to learn about the artists. We were able to find parking in front of the building without having to walk far at all, and they also have a small restaurant in the building for lunch, as well as a gift shop.
This is one of my favorite museums. Im never disappointed. These photos are some that I took a couple years ago.
Great place to relax and to get culture. Friendly staff.
Great place for young kids and adults. Very educational exibitions for toddlers like Tot Land and Kit n Kaboodle. We enjoyed it. Second and third floors are dedicated for adults. A lot of paints, sculptures. We spent there 2 hours and was really worth it.
This museum has a decent variety of paintings. Most pieces are of good quality that make a trip to this place a must for artists or art enthusiasts.
My friend over here ordered berries n cream and it was the bomb dot com. And then I ordered a flower power which is a springtime drink and man mine tastes like really good cardamom. I think its a nonprofit cafe too oh my gosh, thank you so much!
Beautiful collection! Wonderful artists and works displayed in a tasteful and aesthetic manner with a wide array of styles and tastes from many periods. The staff was well informed and very helpful, and we just absolutely loved being able to explore the portion of the museum located within the Crocker house. Everything was well kept and preserved. We especially loved the the main hall and the entrance!
Definitely Five Stars. Me and my family went together and it was absolutely wonderful. The atmosphere was great. I got so inspired while there. You also have free roam of pretty much everywhere in the building. The gift shop was also fantastic. The people working there and the entire museum were so nice. I am definitely going to go all the way back down to Sacramento so I can go there again.
Fun stuff. Ancient to modern.
Brought my grandmother (in a wheelchair) here for lunch and to see the special exhibits. Museum staff is friendly and helpful. Highly recommended for art lovers—especially anyone interested in California art. The newer part of the museum has a good collection of local artists, including those who taught art at Sacramento’s local colleges.
Intricate layout with wonderous pieces throughout. Definitely a place to visit more than once.
Any place you can learn is worth it. They were presenting American Indian art/history and it was an amazing learning experience about the past and present America that some may not know exist. Wish I lived in the area I would get a membership because they have an interesting calendar for 2020.
What a wonderful way to spend a day! I look forward to visiting this fine museum again sooner than later!
Nice Noon Years Eve celebration.. Great museum
Beautiful exquisite art of many dimensions. The museum takes such care in keeping all pieces clean and preserved. The building and grounds are clean and attractive. Having a mobility disability it was so nice to be able to stop and sit and rest...there are chairs and benches throughout. Nice cafe and gift shop, staff and security are very friendly and helpful
Beautiful pieces of art! I was very impressed, lots to see!
A great selection of California related and other art in a beautiful historic building.
Nice modern art museum. Go on Sunday since its free. Would not pay for this museum.
Beautiful museum. Great exhibits, modern art, classic art, sculptures, knowledgeable h helpful staff. Blended buildings with the original Crocker Mansion & a new modern building. So many things to see. Expect to spend aa day if you want to see everything.
This a great place to go with children and as an adult. I have been here recently with my children which was fun for all of them. The different levels each have their own draw however I wish there was more added on a frequent basis. All in this place is worth coming to more than once.
Ive gone here twice, and both times was an educational experience. I thought I had explored the whole museum, but I was wrong.the second time I found a few hidden spots, and noticed some things that I didnt before, like the sink below the hair wreath.Out of any museum I reccomend this one if youre having a hard time picking. This place is the best.Id add photos but then that defeats the purpose...so just go.
I love the Crocker Art Museum! It has a unique juxtaposition of old Victorian a new modern architecture! They also get in really fabulous exhibits!
Enormous museum.Had an amazing day at the museum, there was a band playing jazz on the main patio. The rooms I enjoyed more were the dedicated to contemporary art. Also enjoy a lot the room of ceramics and the Asian Art exposition.
An important and great museum of the arts!!! A place to bring your family and explore.
Parking is the only issue Ive run into. After 6pm theres a good lot, but its only relevant on Thursdays when the gallery is open late. I love this place, Ive visited the museum multiple times since my childhood, its definitely my favorite art museum in the state
I went with my father who is not an art museum person, and he said it was the most fun he had at a museum. The art is very diverse. Unlike art museums I’ve been to where each floor has a theme, it seemed to me at this one each room had a theme; which kept it from getting monotonous. I really enjoyed and art was beautiful.
Great for seeing lots of local California artists. Every month they have a sketch it program for kids and adults alike. They also have a tot space in the basement of the mansion.
Art is speechless! Deep in each piece their is a story about the human being creative ability. Excellent place to appreciate artwork from those who tell their story by their love for art. Thank Q Professors at Sacramento City College. Thank Q Providers Past, Present, Future.
I absolutely loved this museum! What a gem! I was visiting Sac City from out of town and the Crocker happened to be open late on a Thursday night. Wow! The building is gorgeous inside and out. The collection of California landscape paintings from the Hudson River School to present is impressive. Great collection of European art and modern art as well. Very affordable. I cant wait to stop by again next time I am in town.
Fantastic! I came during the Ansel Adams exhibit which was phenomenal. The Japan exhibits were also here when I came and were also great! I rest of the in house permanent exhibits are also fantastic. The Crocker Cafe is also great!Protip: Some exhibits allow photos and others dont, please respect the signage.
Whether you like art or not, they will let you in. And chances are youll find at least one thing youll like. Walking around an art museum is comparable to browsing Youtube; Which, I imagine, is how our ancient ancestors used to do it.
Really loved this place a beautiful Crocker Art Museum
Crocker is truly a gem in Sacramento. What better way to spend a hot summer day than in an AC indoor environment and looking at some neat art? Its extremely accessible at $10 per adult entry fee. The ballroom in the old section of the museum is an exhibit on its own (be sure to look up). Also a tip: the food in the cafe is good - its way above the average for the museum cafeteria tier. Grab a bite there and it wont disappoint.
The Crocker is always an inspiring time. Two worlds - old and new - reside on the property with Judge Crockers mansion being a part of the museum itself housing fine oil paintings and displaying beauitfully upkept architecture and interior design from an age ago. While the other half of the museum is all modern brightness. Some attractions change and some stay for repeated enjoyment. Always worth a visit.
One of the best museums I’ve ever been to and the best one in Sac. What’s really cool is that they cater to kids with a couple of rooms downstairs for them to play in and their Happy Noon Year celebration is amazing for kids. Highly recommended.
Awesome history and a great collection. Beautiful building
This is my favorite of all the museums Ive been to (admittedly not that many but still!). So much to see! Spent over 2 hours here and skipped over many things. The Crocker combines a modern art museum with an architectural gem from history. So glad that my cousin lives in Sacramento so I will be able to come back here again and again. Really loved the modern art exhibitions and could spend hours looking over the permanent collections and the old historical Crocker Victorian mansion area. Thank you, Crocker family!
Worth the time and money! So many different kinds of art here. Totally recommend it!
I kinda liked this one more than the De Young in San Francisco. Half of the museum is an old Victorian Mansion with like minded art and jewelry while the other half has a distinctive modern scene and equally modern art too. Definitely worth the trip
A great museum to take your family, took my kids here, it’s a great museum for art and history . There are some art pieces from 1500’s . Can be a great learning experience for your children . They have guided tours that are fee .There is a restaurant inside that servers very tasty food, try the burger it is delicious. The serve wine and beer there also .Definitely a place you may return to more than once .
Wonderful museum with knowledgeable and helpful staff. The Richard Jackson exhibit is a must see & is on display until August 2019. Parking may be challenging so plan ahead & feed that meter.
Free parking on Sundays! I love the variety of art they have. I can easily spend 2 hours here. Their giftshop is pretty neat. Lots of interesting art related gifts. They offer a pay what you wish day on the third Sunday of the month! This is great for those who cant afford full price admission or have a large family. The Sacramento Public Library also has passes to the musem that you can check out for free with your library card.
It was so interesting and I was amazed with everything. Definitely would go again
Took my son here after a week of doing process art for preschool. He enjoyed looking at the different art pieces and the tot land room
You really cant go wrong here! Promise you will always visit here once you can visit once. The host or hostess is usually great and the service is usually great too.
Good variety for a small collection. Nice layout and friendly staff. Traveling shows are quite enjoyable.
Crocker Museum is my most favorite museum on the globe. Well laid out, comprehensive, and thoughtful. Enjoy!!
Took the kids here and we all enjoyed ourselves. Loved the different types of art, will be returning again!
It is truly beautiful. Amazing pieces of art, from paintings to sculptures to plates! They have it all. The place is very spacious, so there is a lot to see and explore. Definitely come if you can!
Local art museum in gorgeous buildings
A quality museum. Great fun there.
Special encounter with some friendly people who would like to know more about Amitabha Buddha and an ancient statue of the Buddha. There are some very well-painted landscape oil paintings.
Enjoyed the Black History Month recognition, Sunday, February 16: quite stimulating, educating, colorful and empowering. The museum needs to offer more of these events, not only in February but throughout the year to demonstrate that Black culture and the contributions of Black Americans have made and continue to make the USA a more perfect union.
Love the experience love the history great art work
Such a beautiful place, the guide was very kind with us and I really enjoy the visit I definitely recommend this place
Sacramento’s hidden gem. The Crocker has something to evoke some type of emotion from just about any visitor.
Went specifically for the Granville Redmond exhibition. the man was a genius with color and light. highly recommended.
Wonderful exhibits! The art docent was very informative and friendly!
Its a little museum with limited exhibits, however Its pleasant! You do have to pay for parking in the form of a parking meter. So when youre inside, you feel as you have to rush from one exhibit to the next!
I visited with my best friend. We expected to spend an hour or two...five hours later, we left excited, happy and a bit confused as to how a place could hold us so hypnotized for so long. An absolutely wonderful experience. I will certainly return and recommend highly!
There is a lot of amazing art work here. You could spend a whole day there!
Such a nice place to calm down your soul.
Abundance of art pieces from around the world which give the museum a unique sense of style. The layout of the museum itself is sectioned off by both genre and time-period, with minimal volume being an important factor in the experience as a whole.
Really enjoyed this museum. In my top 2 for sure!
Have a nice collection and building architecture, part of BoA museum on us. The place have two parts, the modern and old Crockers house - 3 story high.
I went on a school field trip to this wonderful museum. I am determined to go back for more picture and outstanding artwork.
Out standing and large museum covering many errors of art in various forms with some emphasis on California art. Highly recommended.
Have been going since my kids were in 4th grade for school trip. 20 years later still a great way to spend an afternoon.
Amazing, overwhelming, encompassing collection of California art, I think the largest anywhere! Nice collection also of Native Pottery. The original museum was housed in a gorgeous Victorian structure (1875!) with double grand staircases and a storybook ballroom. The Crocker family mansion is also used for exhibit space. The new addition is spectacular, modern, spacious. I really enjoyed the collection of Modern Art.
Awesome place. Beautiful architecture and paintings accompanied by hand crafted artefacts. The place to be for your art fix.
