Upper Canyon Inn & Cabins

I highly recommend Shadow Mountain Lodge and cabins. Very nice. Quiet, clean, very friendly and helpful staff. We really enjoyed it there and will come back the next time we are in Ruidoso. You have everything you need in this small lodge, kitchen, nice bed and bath and living area. Nice surroundings and close to everything. Pet friendly which is a big plus for us. Thank you.

Great location in ruidoso with the river right across the road. Walking distance for plenty of restaurants. They large whirlpool tub was amazing and a comfy bed. Would recommend to anyone!

The place is beautiful -- that is for sure. The ladies at the front were nice, too.However, my experience was quickly soured because: 1) the check in process was less than ideal (not the ladies fault), 2) they advertised a pullout bed that is more springs than bed, and 3) they kept my deposit and falsely accused me of breaking one of its jets (that was already broken).More details:(1) I tried calling multiple times before checking in (since I was traveling with a larger party) and the place wasnt ready until nearly an hour after check-in. This was due to the party before us leaving a mess. Thats fine, it was out of their control, I can understand.(2) The part that irritates me is that they are advertising a pullout couch that is unusable. Its all spring. One of my guests had to sleep on the couch instead.(3) Even more irritating was that they kept my deposit. Now, I have utmost respect for housekeeping and thus ALWAYS do a thorough job of cleaning the place before checking out (i.e. washing the plates, throwing everything away). This was also the case when I checked out of the cabin. However, fast forward two weeks when I called back to inquire about my deposit: they informed me that I had broken a hot tub jet and were keeping it. The jet was broken already, and after my less than ideal check in, I didnt want to be fastidious so I never called to report the green water or the broken jet. I tried explaining this to the supervisor along with the fact that the party before us likely broke it. Unfortunately, it was rudely obvious that she didnt care to hear about it.Summary: Basically, Im not staying here again and I see why they were the only cabins with last minute availability that day. If you do stay here, then dont count on that pullout bed and make sure that if something is wrong with the place to call them as soon as you find out lest they try to find an excuse to keep your deposit too.

Our cabin by the Rio Ruidoso was very comfortable and in a great location - close to hiking and other recreation, as well as restaurants and shops. We appreciated Upper Canyon Lodgings care and attention to Covid-19 regulations and felt very safe. A very relaxing and enjoyable week!

The blue spurce has gap in the doors. So the cold air comes in. The heater is very dirty so it read hotter than what it is so will shut off. And the Bed was so hard and uncomfortable. The metal on the side you can feel stabing you everytime you get in or out of the bed. It was thee worst thing I ever slept on. Well attempt to sleep on. I couldnt sleep on it. Other then that it was nice. The grill brush need to be replaced. Pretty area and nice cabin. But I will never stay there again due to the bed.

Very painless check in process, clean property, and clean room. Everything worked and even though the kitchenette portion of the room was pretty sparse, it was adequate and we still had a good time

Our stay was wonderful! Room had beautiful decor and extra clean, giving the feeling of living in the mountains, outdoor area was super clean, no noise at all but nature’s noise, the grill outside is propane so you are able to cook immediately without waiting for the charcoal to get ready, the room had huge fire place, a small kitchen with everything you need from making your coffee to cooking some breakfast on the 2 grill stove, it had an electrical stove as well, a fridge, and plenty more amenities, we really enjoyed our stay, looking forward on staying here again, well recommended! Thank you for making out stay so awesome!

We chose to stay at the Riverview cabin to try a new cabin under Upper Canyon Management. The cabin requires a cleaning fee so we assumed it would be clean upon arrival and cleaned after we leave. Instead we found blood on the comforter, mold and strange stains in the bathroom, our feet turned black while walking on the floor and the baseboards were caked with dirt. With everything going on with covid-19, we had higher expectations for Upper Canyon and this cabin.We would love to return if cabins are cleaned as expected. Especially if we are paying extra for a clean environment.

Got a little lost finding the place at first.... they should specify on their website that the cabins are in a different location then the main office. But once I got to my room, I was in aw... the room was very very clean! Even the carpets looked brand new!! The toilet was running when I got there and I got ahold of the front desk and the sweet girls up front called maintenance and he was over there and had it fixed before I even knew he was there lol. I will totally stay again if I ever come back to Ruidoso. Thanks for making the trip worth the 9 hour drive lol :-)

Stayed at the tree house. Lovely cabin! Master bedroom could use a little spiderweb clean up but other than that the stay was great! Beautiful jacuzzi tub inside and hot tub outside.

Amazing place to rent a beautiful cabin. We love this place. Nice get away spot. Clean and quiet. We always rent from them and have never been dissatisfied.

There were quite a bit of spiderwebs the place doesn’t didn’t look like it had been dusted or anything but they did provide anything and everything you needed to stay there such as dishes pots pans towels other than the beds and being kind a still dusty I guess you would say we had a good time..

This place was amazing. So beautiful, bed was perfect. Whirlpool hit the spot to make the night perfect. Will be going back soon.

This was a good property. The one thing that I did not appreciate was the receptionist. She was rude! The rental agreement stated that we could do early check in at 10 if the property was available. I got there at 10:15am and she says you have to wait until 11, but no one was occupying the property. Oh and I was the only one there in the parking lot. She was extremely rude.

Service was so awful. Room needed to be cleaned. I just dont understand why they are taking reservations on dirty rooms these times of COVID. I was trying to book a room through Airbnb and it was taking too long so when I called, their receptionist said that room was dirty and not vacant so the Airbnb reservation wouldnt go through. I didnt feel comfortable with a dirty room, so when I was thinking of cancelling she said we could book another room through them. They ended up charging me for both. After calling and explaining them, they say they will give me a refund but it is not the whole amount. The woman on the phone was so rude and hung up on me in the end.I ended up paying $302 for one room and the room we got wasnt even clean. Very disappointing experience. Never going back.

Really wasnt impressed... The beds were horrible Lumpy/creaky. One of the rooms smelled like cigarette smoke. Tried to stick it out the duration of the trip but my back couldnt take one more night. Also its on a very busy street with cars speeding past if you have kids Id look somewhere else to stay.

Great place for a weekend stay. Had a relaxing night with the hot tub. Woke up to some deer passing and a small river withing walking distance. Will definatly be back!

What an awesome place to stay, its in a very beautiful location ! Great staff! And the cabin was amazing ! You all need to come out and rent a cabin from these people!

LOVED our stay! Lodges are warm & cozy. Has everything you need and the jet jacuzzi tub is an amazing bonus! Lodge is in a great location that is close to all the main things in town, but still close enough to all the wildlife. We saw a beautiful buck right outside our room! Must stay if you are in Ruidoso. We will definitely be back!

Stayed here over New Years for 5 days. This is the second time we rent this cabin so it a testament that it is a good place. Always clean and plenty of firewood provided for nice warm, comfy evenings. We like that it is pet friendly because my daughter always travels with her little Yorkie.

When I arrived at the cabin it had not been cleaned. Soda pop cans on the bedroom floor sunflower seeds on floor around the bed. Dust everywhere inside. Dirty BBQ etc. During this time of a pandemic you would think that would have cleaned but no!!! Mold in the bathroom and tiles gross. What was worse and very scary was how the owner was waiting for me at checkout to yell and scream at me about how I should have called. I did! The office closed 40 minutes early! I did not come in and ask for a discount or refund. I believed he was being a bully knowing it was only women. The cabin was very noisy because people drove up into the gravel back-and-forth all night in front of the cabin. Being on the highway was fine but gravel in front no! The owner was mean and very intimidating. The neighbors who we got to know had the same experience but her husband was with her so it went down very different. If youre looking for a noisy dirty cabin owned by an owner who is mean and intimidating choose any of their properties!

I was really excited to book this room considering it’s great ratings but I was actually very disappointed! When checking in, I was very rushed and was told of the after hours emergency number. She did not give me an example of what kind of emergency it would be for so I figured, it is only for emergencies such as a fire or a flood in the room. At night, I went to turn on the heater since we only had one blanket and one fire place that did not make much heat and it was pretty cold. Well, the heater only blew out cold air so i just spent the night really cold. Heating was something that was promised when I booked. The next day at checkout, I mentioned it to the clerk and she put the situation on me. That I should have called the emergency number rather than trying to help me or apologizing. I have worked for hotels in the past and usually, when it is booked, the room should be checked and made sure everything should be working especially the heating this time around. I was very disappointed and let down by this place!

Wild at heart was an incredible cabin. Lots of things to do so you dont always have to leave to get into town. Would be nicer to be within delivery range for pizza, but that is not enough of an issue to take away a star. We just bought some simple groceries and relaxed indoors.

Rooms were perfect and very clean. Loved the new interior and quaint furnishings. Staff was welcoming and professional.

The cabins are wonderful. Kitchen, bedrooms, living room, front porch, fireplace, etc. We did have a problem with the TV remote. They sent someone to check it as soon as I called. It was a little noisy but that’s because of the family in the next cabin and proximity to the street. The office staff are wonderful. Easy check in and out. Really enjoyed our stay.

Having our hot tub inside while its 19 degrees outside is wonderful... Staying another two nights and loving it!

Even though a trip to Ruidoso from el paso is just down the road, my girlfriend and I wanted to make sure it was the best. So with that being said we planned for 2 months. Pictures on the website do no justice. We picked the Cherry Tree cabin and it was adorable. Parking is literally a few steps to the door. Very spacious cabin. The bed was a little too soft for our liking, but surprisingly very comfortable. Customer service was on point during check in and check out.If youre looking for a little romantic weekend getaway, this is the place to go.

The place is very beautiful the lake the parks but referring to the cabin I did not like it was not what I expected the women who work there very rude the 2 I asked them if I could change the cabin they answered me very rude the bathroom was not useful for the shower I would definitely not return to those cabins

Very accommodating staff. We rented Hughes Cabin for the weekend and it was clean, kitchen was well-equipped. Were thinking of making this an annual tradition.

The cabin was in a beautiful and warming area, the cabin was beautiful and had a great setup. The only thing we were disappointed in was the cleanliness of the cabin. Lots of dust, dog hair, and the smell. Also none of the outlets worked in the bedrooms sinks, very inconvenient. The staff was friendly and helpful!

Setting is very nice. In an older part of the town, but still safe. Check in was a breeze. The unit we stayed in needs updating of the jacuzzi tub. The first night we stayed, the stopper in the tub was broken and the breaker on the tub had tripped and we weren’t able to use it. However, we did call the office and they had it fixed the next morning. The decor was charming. Very comfortable. We’d stay again.

Stayed at River Rest. Cabin floor had not been mopped well. Cabin seemed run down. Ants (as expected with no sealing around windows and doors) crawling through the kitchen during our entire stay of 3 nights. I would probably update from the 1940’s era if I was going to continue to charge >$200 a night. Also when I called to speak to the manager Amanda Reynolds, I was told that it’s the “cabin owner’s responsibility.” She also said that the cabin was inspected prior to us arriving and it was orderly and picked up aside from the floor being dirty but for $200 a night... probably not worth it. Shower floor old as the cabin I’m sure too, would wear flip flops. The river was nice to have nearby though. If you don’t care about the interior and want to stay on the porch and enjoy the river this place might be for you.

We had an enjoyable stay at Upper Canyon Inn and Cabins. The staff was great, and it was very close to the village shops and restaurants.The jacuzzi bathtub really made the room. I wasnt sure if wed use the tub, but now I want one!My biggest complaint was the bed. It was uncomfortable. We both had difficulty sleeping and are feeling the soreness.

By far the best vacation rental company in Rudiso. We come every year from the Keys we love them so much . Staff goes out of the way to make sure you are happy.

This room was so regrettable. The floors were FILTHY. Clothing tags, hair pins, hair every where, and SO MUCH DIRT. The baseboards and surfaces looked like they hadnt been dusted in months, and to top it off, out sheets were sticky and reeked of maple syrup. Do yourself a favor and stay away from this inn and the other lodging locations under Upper Canyon Lodging Co.

I will definitely be bringing my family back to stay here. Right off the square, walking distance if you like to get some good exercise in the morning. Rooms were clean, beautiful and spacious. Such a cozy little place. And the whirlpools are awesome!!!! I cant wait to come back again, loved this place!!!!!

A quaint, cozy cabin perfect for a stay in Ruidoso. Very clean and lovely area. It felt like home and the price was great. The cabin we stayed was recently remodeled. Also great place to stay if you have a dog. You just have to pay a small pet fee. The man who owns the place is very nice. Well be back on our next visit here from Texas.

We Love it!!!! Get away just a coulpe times a year and drive up for the piece and quite,, But yet we love to go into town and shop. Retaurants are great..We Stay with At Upper Cayon everytime and have never been disappointed. From the front desk till we leave!!! The only problem is I cant leave without spending money at the gift shop. That shop is amazing.... Highly recommend!! We will just keep coming back...

My girlfriend and I are going to to do our best to make it here for our anniversary from now on incredible cabin and the spot isnt 100% discreet but depending on the people at the other cabins its perfect

Relaxing place to stay with an awesome jacuzzi bath tub

I absolutely LOVED everything about the inn. If you just want to get away and relax Upper Canyon is the place to go. It is very close to downtown and the scenery is so beautiful. The reason as to why I’m posting this with a one star is because of the “check in, receptionist” man are they RUDE makes you not want to go back just so you won’t have to deal with them and their attitude.

It was so peaceful and quiet on the inside. Theres construction going on not 20 foot down the road and yet I didnt even notice. Its just so peaceful and quiet.The room was extremely nice had a little private balcony. I stayed in logic 9 which had a television right across from the whirlpool tub.All in all the only thing wrong with this place is I had to leave. But I will be returning in the future so I can enjoy longer stay.

This is a great place to getaway from the business of life. My only request is, that some of the spaces be smoothed out to be more handicapped friendly. Other than that, really relaxing.

Misleading online i was booking a cabin and got a room that hot tub was nasty and was not what i booked especially on my honeymoon

It was well maintained and cleaned, location was close to down town shops.

After many calls back and forth due to their WiFi and “new” employees. I was quoted a price. I asked this employee numerous times to make sure about the dates and price. She confirmed. We get our confirmation is isn’t right at all. I call back and she says she has our reservation and will talk to the manager in the morning and call me back. They didn’t. I called yet again for the 8th time and was told sorry about the miss communication but the reservation isn’t right. DUH! I called 8 times last night saying so. I was willing to pay the quoted price per night but not more than I was quoted numerous times. Manager was rude! Talking over me and my husband. May have good accommodations we will never know. Their website is not customer friendly and neither are their associates.

Very nice room with cabin style decor. There were two recliners and a queen size bed as well as a Jacuzzi tub and tv. The bathroom had a bath and shower plus a sink and toilet that functioned well. There is a coffee maker and small refrigerator too.

Dont waste your time looking for a cabin. This company has all sizes and dog friendly. Awesome experience.

We were wanting a CABIN LIVING with beautifulScenery and we got here it was a lodge..and got put in the back were we had no scenery and our whirl pool didnt work ..WE WEREnt ADVICE THAT THERE WAS NO HOUSEKEEPERS WE NEED TO TAKE OUR DRITY SHEETS N Towels down to the front where its is down the street ..We had room 8 and for some reason we got room 10 ..WE HAD TO TAKE OUT TRASH BEFORE WE LEAVE AND THIS ROOM WASNT CLEAN I HAVE PICTURES of it dust on celling fans and under couch we moved it closer to tv it was drity under it pic frams drity ...wow i got away me and my husband and it wasnt what we wsnted ...

Check in was easy. Staff was very nice. Room was clean. Everything I was looking for for a weekend escape. Will be staying there again!!

Excellent place to stay. Super clean and cozy

Weve stayed in this exact same room two times a year and a half apart and must say I do love staying here. The bad part is, even with searching beforehand to see if anything was going on this weekend in Ruidoso there ends up being a bike rally and we have to hear extremely loud obnoxious motorcycles going up and down the canyon all day. Some of these guys are almost hitting deer because theyre trying to impress the people sitting out front drinking a beer next to the river. Pretty sad. The cabins and Lodge are beautiful as usual, but you can see some of the maintenance has been left off on. In room number 5 there is a water leak behind the wall of the shower that we reported, and it looks like its been that way for some time. Cant open the closet all the way as you couldnt a year-and-a-half ago, and there are these knots or something sitting underneath the carpet multiple places now, almost feels like supports from the bottom floor are pushing through. The place is clean but there seems to be a lot of things caught up in the carpet that really need to get pulled out. Hopefully its just a minor thing and theyll be cleaned up when we come back again in the future but I may look for a place a little further away from the road in case there happens to be another biker rally. The lights out in front of the rooms are switched over to LED so they rarely if ever need to be changed out, but that just shows how often maintenance happens. The one for our room is filled with some sort of material, either from Bugs or something else I dont want to think about. Hold the hangers in the closet are mismatched cheap wire hangers from a dry cleaner that somebody left here or plastic ones that you threw out when you got your first house. The closet is self looks like somebody tore all the walls apart and replace them with cardboard on the inside, but the rest of it looks fine. Room was pretty hot and stuffy when we got there because of course the air-conditioning was off as you would expect, but while walking past the fireplace it was actually putting off heat. The pilot light seems to be a little too peppy and is partially heating the room. In September. Definitely come and check the place out, but just remember no place is completely perfect.

Gorgeous, perfectly maintained, secluded cabins in the hills by Ruidoso. Friendly helpful staff made us feel welcome. The bed is extremely comfortable, and dressed with warm, high quality sheets and blankets. A must visit!

Beautiful on the inside and out! Very clean and comfy rooms, absolutely no complaints! Will definitely return here in the future!

Scenery is gorgeous however the cabins are overpriced and embellished in the advertisements also the driveways are extremely narrow its difficult to avoid crashing into trees wasnt completely impressed definitely a one time thing Ill stick with inn of the mountain Gods
