Can you say fun times? Of course you can! And you will have them here. I sure did! Learned how to throw a clay bowl on a potters wheel. Messy but fun! Got to paint it. Our instructor was great. She was knowledgeable and fun! Laughed and learned...great combo. We did a birthday party of 9 for my granddaughter. Great for kids of all ages. Pricing reasonable. Parking on street.
Fun but the prices are a bit high. There is an 8 dollar paint fee plus the cost of whatever you paint and the small things start of at 9 bucks they do allow you to bring beer and wine which is cool and the staff is very friendly but it is small and a bit cramped fun for kids too but just watch what they pick or youll be paying big bucks
Had a good time, my first visit. Painted some pottery with my fiance. Overall its an art studio atmosphere for people of all ages. I didnt have a problem with the pricing, many options of all price ranges to choose from. The staff was very friendly and informative. The area to pick your pieces to paint was a bit close to the art tables, which can be a little challenging to move around and find a piece without disturbing someone, but Im a people person so it didnt bother me. Just something to take into consideration. It takes a week to get your finished piece once youre done painting. I think thats very reasonable considering the amount of projects going on daily within the business. I was a little bummed that my fiance had no problem picking up her deathstar coin bank but my box was lost. Not a super big deal though, life happens and people picking up items for someone else most likely happened and I get that. They refunded me and apologized. All good for me. Ill take it as someone else really liked it and wanted it more than me. Some people might react differently since you spend so much time painting your piece for it to get lost, but life is too short to get angry about the little stuff.I saw some people in other reviews complaining about the pricing and the size of the place. I understand where they are coming from, but I think it also depends on perspective. The experience was good and it was mainly about spending the time painting and having fun doing it. If youre not certain on a price of a piece definitely ask, staff is very friendly and approachable. They supply everything and its a very open age range environment. Brushes and supplies vary in quality, I didnt have an issue with the supplies at the table we sat at, but if you do I would recommend just asking, again they are very friendly and approachable. I would definitely visit again.
Had a great time here! Many different projects to get into and a comfortable inviting environment. We’ll be back. Definitely a place to bring groups.
This review is for the 6 week wheel throwing class.INSTRUCTOR: Miriam was my instructor and she was really great. She knows how to teach easy methods of doing things, but shes also knowledgeable on more advanced skills as well. Shes so sweet and makes the class so fun.CLASS: The course is perfect for beginners and experienced potters alike. Ive been to a few studios before, and Id say this studio is the most laid-back and relaxing studio Ive ever been to. I recommend taking the daytime course if you can, as evening classes are very packed and can be hard to focus on wheel throwing when youre knee to knee with other potters. Only 4 students when I took the daytime Wednesday class!CLAY AND GLAZES: Decent selection of glazes, theyre the hand painted kind, so you can mix them to get a variety of colors if the selection isnt enough. No dip glazes. Better for people who like to paint designs. They use white clay only.STUDIO: Pieces take about a week to come out, which is pretty fast compared to other studios Ive been to. Love the staff, the music playlist, and the pottery community here. Can be pricey, but its a fair price compared to other studios. Take advantage of open studio times to practice! They also have one day courses too if you dont want to commit to 6 weeks. Overall I highly recommend the course and studio. Would def sign up for another course in the future .
Fun activities and very helpful staff.
This store is amazing! They offer really fun things to do with lots of options on how to do it. The staff was nice and after giving you instructions let you do your thing. Only thing I would say is it CAN get pricey quickly! Look for the signs on pricing before you start. (They charge you a painting fee which on top of everything adds up) It seems like it is cheaper on their website. I would 100% go back though!
Accessible for the most part. a bit pricey, and theres a limited selection of templates to choose from. many incomplete instructions were given. overall, it was a fun experience though.
I love this place. Theres lots of pottery to choose from. There are plates, bowls, figurines, and more. I go in, pick a piece of pottery, and I personalize it with color. There are other things to do here to, like jewelry making(I think), and pottery creation. Its a great place to go with friends and family, its also a great place to go to relax if youve had a rough day. The only thing that I dont like is the price. You are charged $8 just for being there, before you even pick anything to paint. They call it the studio fee.
I am taking a wheel throwing class and it is great I am learning so much ... I makes me want to continue with pottery... why I waited so long to do this I dont know... Rachel my instructor is extremely talented and very patient with all the students.... all the staff is very helpful and friendly
We stopped in for a quick activity after lunch and made wax hands. The young man that helped us was informative, sweet, and great with our 4 year old. The hands came out as a lovely rainbow heart and everyone had fun.
Fun making art in an atmosphere of encouragement and inspiration.
I approached them for a donation to my daughters’ school’s Silent Auction. It’s never easy asking for money-especially knowing these establishments get requests every day-but they were accomodating, responsive, thoughtful, and GENEROUS! I will definitely be back & will tell everyone I know to patronize this excellent, fam friendly spot!Thank you for supporting the kids in your community!
We came here to do a private pottery class and we had a wonderful time! Ricky was our instructor and he did a great job. He was very helpful & fun. I definitely recommend coming here for pottery or painting!
My experience is always great here! The service is amazing and the kids have a great time.
This place is the best! I love it so much, its a hidden gem! They have all sorts of things to do, definitely come with some time to spend on a project. They have classes and walk in stuff too!
Very fun place for adults and kids. You can stay as long as you like to finish your piece and everyone can pick what product they want to do (fused glass, painting pottery, beading, etc.). People were helpful, when we flagged them down and asked questions. But they didnt really give us an informative welcome. We were lost as far as what we could do, which items we could use (fused glass) and had to keep finding someone to ask questions. I would have thought that more of the people should have been walking around and checking on people and seeing if they had questions and/or needed help. The chairs were HORRIBLE. A complete accident waiting to happen. They were not sturdy and extremely light. Out of the 4 of us, 3 of our chairs fell over when we got up or because of the weight of our coats. Very close quarters. Tables should be running perpendicular to the way they are for easier access. Would come back again, but seriously want to bring my folding metal chair.
Can not say enough about this amazing place. We had our first experience with Creative Arts Studio last year at a festival where they were doing wax hands. My 4 year old and 13 year old loved the wax hands. We decided to make a day of it and check out the studio in Royal Oak for their Mommy and Me class. My daughter loved it. Thanks to the staff for a fantastic new way to spend time with my 4 year old daughter creating keepsakes and memories.
I went to find a new piece to work on, and when we walked into the store I was immediately unimpressed. They had the smallest selection of greenware Ive ever seen. We decided to take a look anyway and I had made a decision to buy a medium sized elephant bank and then I looked at the price..... $39.95 I about dropped to the floor!!! Never in all the years Ive been working with ceramics have I ever seen overpricing like this! This store is a joke trying to take advantage of people like that and I would advise anyone not to go to this store, they have seriously overpriced their products. There has to be other ceramic stores who respect their customers and do good and honest business. Creative Arts Studio does not do these things!
Nice place friendly staff.
Fun place! Perfect for girls night out or a special play date. Still use my ceramic desk organizer five years later!
What a rip off. Besides the PER PERSON sitting fee, my daughter and I were ripped off $6 each! They price the ceramics with magnets on the shelf. Unknowingly I grabbed the last item of its kind. My daughter grabbed a face box off the very bottom shelf. Upon check out, I found that neither were the $14 I thought. The face box has a price tag for the smile face box, of which was $14. Hers was $20... of which they could not show or prove to me. Mine, again, being the last one, had no label for it... so I was charged $20. No apologize, no understand, no meet the customer half way for our inability to probably label a shelf. Nope, never again. And my friends will be forewarned of the pricing scam, which I would strongly encourage plenty of other ways to spend that kind of money on entertainment.
I have been doing ceramics for 24+ years, and this place was just a zoo. You cant properly look at the ceramics, because the tables and chairs are so close to the shelves. One person through at a time. The brushes were in very poor shape, no wax paper to put your item on so it doesnt stick to the paper towel, and no mentioned of using a damp sponge to get dust off the piece before you glaze it. I dont understand why adults are charged more than children either? A small snail, small penguin, and a small tank for my son along with class and $56.00 spent. I was not impressed at all. Im all for doing various projects, but if you are going to do all the things they do, they need a much bigger space. It was cramped, chaotic, and not a relaxing experience at all.
Love this place!! its a bit cramped BUT I never leave unhappy. You go in and if you want to paint a plate, bowl, tea pot, piggy bank ect.. you just pick it off the shelf on the right side of the store(prices are on the rack you pick the pieces from). Then you pick a seat anywhere you find an open one. Then you pick your paint from a rack in the far left corner of the store you sit down and paint when you are done you put your name on your piece (to find it when you come and get it) and leave it on your table. Put your paint away and head to the front desk you pay fill out a receipt with your info and a description of your art. Then you come back in like 2 weeks and pick it up (with your receipt) . I go here every December for the last 4yrs (this year will be 5yrs) me and my son paint a plate for Christmas ( we put his hand prints on it to see his growth from year to year) then we pick it up some time in Dec and hang it with the others on the wall. ( one day he will have them for keepsakes)
Made a plate almost 2 months ago. Every time I call to check on the status they say they dont have it. Ill probably be going in for a refund today since it cost 48 dollars to make something that I cant take home with me.
Well done. A+
What a joke
Love, love, love this place.
Very nice place..
Miriam was excellent very nice
