I would love to share details about how much fun my granddaughter had visiting, but unlike what your website says, you were not open! Very frustrating to drive and hour and a half one way for this. DO BETTER PEOPLE
This is the WORST and SADDEST zoo EVER!!! Most cages are empty or filled with random animals we see everyday like a crow....... a lot of the animals seemed as if they will die soon. Their habitats are gross and smell disgusting. Water that is green and filled with filth. This place should be shut down!!!
I was really surprised at how many popular animals there were. The animals seemed happy and I like the up close interaction based on the structure and placement of the habitats. Will definitely come back!
Because it was closed to the public Only reservations are allowed. My grandchild was blown out of the water
Maybe I went at the wrong time. The animals were either sleeping or looked completely miserable.. the enclosures are really small. One of the bald eagles apparently has an injured wing and he squawked out in pain when trying to open his wings.. he cant fly.. poor thing. For it being free I guess I cant complain to much..
This is a great attraction for families! Its a fun little zoo in a very nice park. Bring a picnic to eat by the pond and watch the many many water birds. Best part! Its free!!! But do please leave a donation!!
This is a cute zoo and u actually see animals best part its free!! Its a must visit in Roswell
Great free place to go for a walk and see some cool animals! Definitely a must see on a visit to Roswell!
Great little place to go to! Its free and very clean!
A nice park with a zoo. Had a great time there with my fiance and granddaughters.
We did like this place. Got to see a variety of animals and even learned a little bit. Nice play area.
My kids always have a blast! And its awesome that the zoo is free. The train ride around the park and zoo is really cool
I love this place is free. They take care they animals. Cages are clean and they beautiful. Animals they look healthy and happy. Good job guys continue to love your animals.
Great place to take the family for the day. Not a lot of animals but what they have seems happy and healthy. The Zoo and park is well maintained.
Nice park with nice playground, but not a lot of animals in the zoo. Good thing is, however, its free of charge.
The park was very clean, there wasnt any cigarette butts in the park, the benches were in good shape to eat.
Wonderful night at the Roswell Zoo. Their Christmas railway setup is great. The Roswell youth orchestra played tonight for the guests entertainment and are a bunch of talented students from Roswell and Goddard high schools. They will also be performing Monday night 12/10/18 @6:30 PM. The concert is free and will be a great show. Come out and support these talented young people. And come see the zoos Christmas setup. You wont be disappointed.
Free zoo in a great location
It is a small zoo with just a few animals, but its FREE!! The only thing they charge for is the train and the carousel and it is just fifty cents per ticket . Nice family environment and play ground for kids. Good place to spend quality family time.
They have more animals then they did last time we visited. Its a work in progress and you can tell the staff really cares. My family loves this zoo.
These animals are NOT happy and they dont have enough room to exercise! We were so sad seeing these poor creatures in the living conditions theyre in. This should be a crime. We will not be going back. I hope the animals get some better living spaces or are relocated soon.
The animals look miserable. They need trees and grass .bigger cages. More room for the birds to spread their wings. More for the bears n lions n now they want to bring a cougar. Not the right environment. Park has gone downhill no fun things for the kids. Carousel and train should open on weekends when its nice out. The lake is filthy with trash. The workers dont do what they need to
Kids enjoyed running around. The longhorns were beautiful, but I was concerned for the bear. I thought maybe it was on its death bed. Hardly any water. Didnt see any food. If youre super bored, give it a shot just for something to do. Other than that, not really worth going out of your way for.
The zoo in Roswell New Mexico is very small quiet a lot of fun to walk through see different animals from that part of the world
So sad this poor fox had no water on a 100 degree day
Cute exhibits for small kids, a train and carousel for fun. Nice duck pond, dont forget your bread to feed the ducks and geese! Free admission, nice place to visit when its not too hot out.
I really enjoyed the zoo. Im happy theyre improving the animals pens.
Ive been to this place several times. The zoo is nice and run on a donation system. During Christmas time they have lighted train rides available that are amazing. Its definitely a place to stop if visiting Roswell.
Allways great free fishing under 12 they should start charging and make it a better place for animals and visitors and get their trees trimmed by Tree Surgeons
We had a blast at the zoo and Christmas Railway
Lovely small zoo and park. It gets better everytime we visit. We try to walk through everytime we visit Roswell.
Great little natural zoo, free as well. Next to nice park and free fish pond for kids
This zoo needs to be shut down. Please give these animals a right place to live. I am so sad that the zoo even exists. where is the help? Where are the individuals who want to truly care for these animals?
There were cool animals there and they let you pet the sheep and the horses.
Didnt actually visit the zoo part of the park, attended a birthday party there though. It was a nice outdoor setting to do something like that
The Christmas Railway held here this time of year is a wonderful place to go with your family.
Love love love this place. Wish I could take em home
Its free, they dont have the resources to have true habitats, but it is a wonderful zoo. Its free, but if you enjoy it ams/or want to see bigger habitats, donate, put your money where you mouth is, help. I would go back.
I went to this zoo a couple years ago during a road trip from LA to Chicago. My Dad remembered being able to hear Lions roaring from the zoo at his grandparents house in Roswell, so we decided to stop by and see if the zoo was still there. Let me tell you, that was a GREAT decision.First off the zoo is free which I am huge supporter of. It is certainly a small zoo with outdated cages and exhibits, which at first glance seem depressing for the animals and not in their best interests. However, I very quickly found that almost all of the animals there were very happy and playful. Many interacted with us as we watched them, there were no animals pacing back and forth the same pattern over and over again, and somehow I could just sense that they were happy. In some of the most elaborate exhibits Ive seen at big city zoos, the animals just sit looking depressed or walk back and forth looking at the wall, but in Roswell despite many cages simply being a chain link fence or an oversized bird cage, the animals seemed to love life. There was a great Llama that loved interacting with us, a bunch of ponies that ran around and played with each other the whole time and some majestic longhorns watching the ponies play. There are many animals you find in America, including Bison, a variety of foxes, bobcats, Mountain Lions, Coyotes, Antelope, Bald Eagles, Hawks, Owls, and free-roaming Peacocks. There was also a cool old-fashioned playground right outside the zoo with a rocket ship slide. Perfect for Roswell!
I was so disappointed in the playground area having huge piles of trash built up and trash laying on the grass. This was yesterday 3/28/2019. The baby swing was cut and unusable. I had to use the restroom and it stunk so badly of a sulphur like smell and I truly dont know how to door to the stall was even upright. I have never seen this place look like this. It really was sad. We ended up leaving and didnt bother checking out the zoo. I gave it a 2 because it has never looked like this before.
It is way nicer then I thought it was going to be. A park and zoo... seemed like it wouldnt be coom but it was. Your so close to the animals and no one is there asking for money just dispensers to put your donation so it more laced and made me donate more. I hate feeling the need to give all my money but I didnt not feel that pressure there at all. Some exhibits are empty but for it be a free/donation spot its really worth it.
Christmas Railway was short and sweet. U decide how long to stay near Santa area and can walk back or ride train back. We liked it. Get a cinnamon roll when u get hot chocolate...$3 each.
Zoo is free. There were animals out to see, some enclosures did not have animals. It was a nice walk around the zoo. There is a playground also. The concession stand and carousel were closed on the day we went, mid day Wednesday in February. We were the only people looking at the animals at this time.
I was visiting my family in Roswell and went to see the Christmas lights with my Mom and daughter. My 2 year old loved it! I had no idea that they did anything like that, at least they didn’t when I was younger, so I thought it was pretty neat. I couldn’t really see much of the zoo because it was late night, but from what my family told me, the park has been looking much better from when I used to go there when I was little. The one star missing is because I heard they’re removing the rocket slide and some of the best memories I ever had at that park as a kid! I’m sure it’s extremely old, and I’m only hoping they put in something just as fun, if not way better than that. Idk if they could top that slide though. It was epic, and that news made me sad.
Memories memories and great memories. Great place.
Ptetty cool. Needs more animals
Ive been coming here since I was a kid and I still love it! I just wish some of the animals had bigger spaces to move around in.
Hey, it is free. It is not a big zoo but surprising for a small city zoo. Great if you have kids. Pack a picnic basket & have fun.
Nice family park with a great Christmas display too
I read the reviews before we went, and they seemed to be mixed. My overall impression now that weve gone is that if you go with low expectations, you might be pleasantly surprised. We were there around 10am on a Saturday, and were super disappointed that the bears and mountain lions werent out, because it seems like they are the highlight of the zoo. The other animals are fun to see, but not as cool. However, just as we were finishing the loop, a worker drove by in a golf cart and told us he was about to go feed the bears if we wanted to come watch. He dumped a bunch of fruit, veggies, and pebble food, then opened a door and they came out. Then he dumped raw hamburger in the mountain lion cage and they came running out, too. Watching them all eat was really fun. The carousel and train are super fun for little kids, too, and soooo inexpensive (50 cents per ride, with ages 5 and under free). Overall, for being a free zoo, we thought this was a great activity for our family. Well likely go again sometime. I recommend finding out what time theyll be feeding the big animals and going to watch.
Hreat place to play. Lots of tables to eat outside. Zoo was small but cute. Our little one enjoyed the playground the best.
This is a great zoo considering the size of Roswell. They don’t have the really exotic animals, but they tailor to animals that are local or found in this region of the country. It gives adults and children alike a sense of what is out there around us everyday. They even have a duck pond if you like to feed the ducks, my wife & I go all the time, free admission also.
Small town, tiny Zoo. They do their best. Beautiful park.
Poor animals all looked in shambles. Being as hot as it was, no fresh water was given.
Spring River Park Zoo was a Nice place to Be for Easter. Had lots of room for the kids to play and Easter egg hunt. With an added bonus of letting the kids get excited to see the animals.
Play area for kiddos awsome restrooms clean shade benches .... Fishing also.... Walking the zoo mornings best too hot afternoons
Really cool free zoo! Great stop with kids when passing through to get some energy out.
Nice little zoo and the best part is that it is free! No pets allowed though. There is also a really long carousel ride and a little train to ride. The train wasnt really worth it, you dont see anything while on the ride except for the next door trailer park. The little amount of animals they have are fun to watch, but most of them werent even out when we went.
Seriously tiny but perfect size for toddlers and small children to explore before they lose interest. There are obviously no seriously large or rare animals but babies and toddlers dont care. Theyre just as happy seeing a turkey as an elephant. The attached park was pretty cute, too. If I lived in Roswell I feel like I would be here every day
Nice and clean place and alots of animals I never thought they would have here since is free admission They accept donations by the way
This zoo is awesome especially considering that its free. The animals seemed to be well taken care of and the atmosphere was very relaxing.
Fairly good zoo. Doing some improvements and new exhibits. Free admittance and only 50 cent rides
Nice place yoneslk my dogs safe.
Not bad for a free zoo. Defintely needs more people making donations, a lot of the exhibit information displays were in disrepair. Carousel is only 50 cents! But sadly train was down for repairs.
This place is amazing, the staff are so friendly and nice. Must see place to go in Roswell
I know it was free, we did make some donations, seems like they could use some help doing up keep. Lots of little issues. Not too bad for a small town zoo.
Wonderful park! Great big spaces for the animals. They looked healthy and well cared for. Wonderful way to end our day trip to Roswell.
Cool to see the animals they have and how they take care of them. Check them out and donate to help
Excellent find
Before the pandemic, this place always seemed closed. The pond doesnt have much water and it looks gross. The zoo looks depressing and the grounds dont look very appealing.
Good for a small town. Would be great if some money was put into it.
Small free zoo that is great for kids! You can easily walk the entire zoo in under an hour, so little legs wont get tired. They also have a great playground year round and a carosel and small train in the summer time, the tickets to ride only being about a dollar. There is a lake across from the zoo that any child under 12 can fish at for free without a liscence, it is regualry stocked with perch and catfish and youre free to take the fish home if your kid catches one.
It was a nice or Beautiful place to picnic.. But, disappointed they didnt have much.. The coolest was the Cougar he was cool, and big, but didnt stay out long then 2 black bears... The rest was small stuff.. Like turtles... But, hey if you wanna kill an hour and check something out. This place is ok I guess... Like I said no Jeraffs or Lions lol but hey other then that, it was aigghhhtt!!!$
The zoo is really coming into itself, the playground is way better than previous years the park is clean and new attractions are too come. Only complaint is the girl who runs the train..probably wont do that again.
I enjoyed the zoo. Its free to get in and they have a very humane rescue program that you might feel good about. We got to see the lady feeding the wild dogs by dripping blood around their pens so the dogs could track the blood to their food. It was interesting to see and to talk to the nice lady about what she was doing.
Best free zoo you will ever see.
Just went to take my kids for a picnic at the zoo just to be disappointed because the gates are all closed up Im not sure for what big bummer for the kids especially since Ive been telling them all week we were going to see the animals today and the frustrating thing is ITS POSTED ALL OVER THAT ITS CLOSED TUESDAYS!! Today is saturday and its such a big park why wouldnt the park be open
Wish they would start the carousel and train before the hottest part of the day!
Its a work in progress. A few cool things to see, but leaves much to be desired. Id like to see the place when renovations are complete.
Great potential, definitely needs an update. There wasnt any information on any of the animals.. except the two bald eagles.
Great place for the kids top see the animals, ride the train($0.50 per person) and kids play area
Zoo is wide open with a few animals here and there. The kids enjoyed it. Being free to enter makes it even better.
Great experience! Have had two different parts of our family to the Christmas Train and village, and we all loved it. Glad to see this in Roswell.
Wish the animal habitats were a bit more habitable
Grandsons had a lot of fun seeing the animals and playing in the nice park area. Very nice especially for being free!
Only free zoo in America. Please donate what you can, when you go....
I loved this place. We are from texas just passing through and I thought this place was the best. Its not huge so dont expect big animals everywhere. BUT it is free and it has a nice little park by it. This place is AMAZING!!! I definitely recommend coming if you are in the area.
I always enjoy my time here. Lots of room for kids to play. Train and carousel is 50 cents ticket and kids under 5 ride free. Not very many animals but that ok, the ones that are there look happy and healthy.Fishing pond is free for kids and admission to the park is also free.
Great for free. Wish the signage was better.
Its was a nice place to walk and see some animals may have not been many but it was a nice walk to think and enjoy... my family and I were just passing through the town...
Realy nice place clean and the staf verry nice people amassing place.
The hours listed said they closed at 6, nope they closed at 5. What we did see, the animals are not kept in the best enclosures and some looked hurt.
This place needs work. Cages are much too small for most of the poor critters there. Said animals look tired and/or stressed out with barely any zoo keepers around (besides the people manning the train and ticket booths) some of those animals even looked a little thin. There were two dead baby birds we had found under a tree that looked like they’ve been left for dead for DAYS. These animals deserve way better living conditions than what the zoo keeps has provided for them.
I had a great time! Such an interesting and educational place! Walk through the zoo and then enjoy a picnic in the park.
