Some really great shows come through here! They have so much to offer. The theatre is absolutely beautiful and the staff are all so helpful and kind! Definitely recommend coming to see a show here - Ive also been a season ticket holder in the past...it makes it so easy to come see all of the season shows and theyre flexible if you need to change the night you come for one of the shows if something comes up.
Great line up of shows. HAMILTON was great!. Refreshments-wine, beer, candy and cookies, Limited parking on site but $5 and $10 parking at many lots next to and easy walk nearby (we parked at Memorial Art Gallery and walked! FREE- great dinner at The Brown Hound Downtown in the Gallery!) Tickets thru box office or Ticketmaster only! Beautiful Theater! Photo taken from Row G, seats 6 & 8. ENJOY!
Awesome staff. We went there with a special needs child and the staff could not have been better. We all had a great time. A big thank you to all of the staff there. The show was as awesome as well. I recommend it to everyone.
The Rochester Theater Organ Society concerts on that wonderful Wurlitzer are more than worth the price of admission. A membership is an incredible value. The February concert showcases students from the Eastman School of Music and the winner of the ATOS Young Artist Competition. Aaron Hawthorne was brought all the way from Scotland. What a poised young man and an excellent organist. Great afternoon!
I love this building! It has such character and irreplaceable details and accents that I cant imagine them wanting to try to build something new. The seats are comfortable in terms of upholstery, but too narrow for most modern Americans personal bubbles. The theater is a nice size which allows for every seat to have a good view. The ushers are friendly and helpful. Thank you for providing an important part of the cultural fabric for the city of Rochester and beyond.
Saw the Lion King here, it was INCREDIBLE! The theater was gorgeous, they had a great system for parking (when you get the parking pass, which wasnt too pricey), the staff were all friendly and helpful, the whole event was very well organized and ran smoothly and timely. Will definitely be going back for productions here in the future!
This is a wonderful place. They were amazing with my daughter and I. They accommodated her with her wheelchair. We have seen the little mermaid and the lion king. We will be returning for future events. Cant wait.
The theatre itself is attractive if a little on the aged side. Theyve done a lot to make it user friendly. The seats are comfortable and the stairs and hallways are easily managed even in the crowds. The staff is very helpful, I have absolutely no reservation about recommending this location to see a show.As always, there are never enough womens restroom and so lines should be anticipated. Most seats have wonderful views and sound was perfect. We saw Hamilton and it did not disappoint!
I went to the play Come From Away. It was jaw dropping amazing! The building is beautiful. If you are a larger person, the seats are small and uncomfortable. You will have to pay for parking unless you get there VERY early to find one of the few on street parking spaces.
Didnt care for this adaptation of Jesus Christ Superstar. A couple of the songs were good. The singers did a good job. Set design was interesting. Glad we had free tickets.
Jesus Christ Super Star was an awesome performance!! I enjoyed the changes that were made to update it. Ive enjoyed the music and the way Jesus story is told in this manner since I was about 11 years old.THANK YOU RBTL for bringing this tour to Rochester!!
We went to see Jesus Christ Superstar. Loved this classic rock opera. Love the theatre, love the architecture. The staff very friendly and helpful.
The acoustics are quite well. But the seating is quite dated and poor. You are elbow to elbow with other guests and little to no leg room. The entire showing your knees are either up against the seat in front of you or against one of the metal railings near the middle section. A more spacious seating accommodation would benefit the venue rather than trying to pack as many seats as possible to maximize profits. I feel like Im in dated movie theater. Very disappointing.
The Broadway shows they bring are wonderful. They serve the youth in the region with valuable summer programming and the Stars of Tomorrow program where local schools get to showcase talent. Students involved in Stars of Tomorrow Schools have opportunities to go to Broadway Theatre in exchange for selling lottery tickets. What an amazing opportunity. The venue is beautiful. I highly recommend the experience.
Nice theatre. Easy to get in and out of, lots of parking options. Wish I wouldve stopped at the $5 lot, ended up at the church for $10 but it was directly across the street. I would go here again.
Great performances, good alcoholic drinks but the seating is a little tight.
What a beautiful venue! Staff was kind and the theater itself was wonderful. The only thing keep this from a 5 star review is parking can be a bit of an issue. I recommend parking at Village Gate and walking.
Wife and I went to Shen Yun this weekend! We went for cheap seats which were in the balcony area. View was pretty good even though we were up high. Seats were comfortable. Acoustics were good. Bathrooms were gross and had to wait for a long time during intermission. Bar set up on the ground floor did not have enough room between the stairs and bar so it was super crowded and hard to walk through. Very poor set up. Enjoyed the performance a lot but the theater needs a makeover and better use and planning of space. Security was surprising w metal detectors and guards. Apparently, they are not supporters of the 2nd amendment even though the theater is located in a high crime ghetto area and people routinely get robbed. No info on their website about any restrictions. Parking was $8 which wasnt to bad and easy to access the building.
RBTL is such a great Rochester staple item. I’ve seen anything from Hozier to Anastasia here and every time I’ve gone it’s been a great experience. There isn’t a bad seat in the place!
Very beautiful and historic theater. Because it is old the seats tend to be small for the size of folks these days. The sound system is very good. No problem hearing all of the music and actors. Our seats were toward the back on the main floor, but the sight lines are good. One problem is the staff. I understand that many of the ushers are volunteers, but they are generally confused. Not usually helpful. They are generally nice though. This is the only place to go for touring shows and the RBTL does bring in a nice variety for Rochester. For that reason i will be back as I have been many times.
Great show and beautiful old building. But, I dont think we will be back for another show at this venue. The seats were just too uncomfortable for a three hour show, and tickets were not cheap. We had front row mezzanine so we had a little more leg room, the people behind us complained the entire show about being unable to move, I sympathized as they had less room than I and I felt like a sardine with two normal size people on each side of me.
Some seats, particularly in the back, are poor. Cannot see performers facial expressions and their interactions. Its almost like radio. Seats are tiny. While sitting back, my knees touch the seat in front. Almost like cattle class on airlines. Staff was helpful.
The Lion King was fantastic. Our seats could not have been better and we would definitely see it again.
Lovely theater with great shows (big-name Broadway shows, both classic and new) - and dont forget to look for the squirrels painted into the ceiling decorations! We have seats on the balcony and the sight-lines are great without feeling too far away from the stage. The season tickets arent cheap, but theyre still great value. Also, if you cant make your scheduled ticket date, theyre really good at finding you comparable tickets on another date. There isnt much parking in the theater lot, but there are plenty of places to park within a short walk (from free, if you are early enough, to $5 - and $8 for the theater lot). They recently installed walk-through metal detectors (like at the airport) to replace the wands they used to use. We experienced them for the first time last night and felt that it hadnt slowed the process down (which were scared it would).
Went to see Shen Yun. The show was great and the theatre is beautiful. Every seat has a clear view of the stage and the sound is balanced.
Always an unforgettable experience with an amazing cast and crew that brings Broadway to Rochester several times a year with shows such as Hamilton, Waitress, Fiddler on the Roof, and many more.Wheelchair accessible. Parking lot close and less than a block away.Orchestra, mezzanine, and balcony seating.Season tickets available (in addition to paying per show).Close to Downtown Rochester.
Seen production Seen Yen. Was wondering when good. Seating area need more leg room.
Saw Summer the Donna Summer Story It was a very nice experience. Seating was set back in the theater but there were no problems seeing the entire stage. First time at a show and overall the theater and experience were great.
Love this Theater. Clean. Great venue. Great concession stands. Staff is extremely pleasant.
Beautiful historic theatre with lots of interesting little architectural/design details. Parking was very reasonable ($10 when we went to see Lion King) although being from a big city I tend to think anything below 20 dollars for event parking is a steal.
Awesome place to see plays. Just went to see The Lion King. Easy to get to and there is a bunch of parking lots with free parking for events.
It was a great experience and every little detail was perfect. I recommend going to a show
Beautiful historic building, clean updated bathroom with lots of stalls, friendly staff. Easy parking.
Beautiful building. Sufficient parking. Old but very well-kept. Seats are a little small/cramped which is why I gave it 4 stars.Metal detectors before the show.
Beautiful theater. Good bar service. Nice employees.
My friend has season tickets. What a great experience and the volunteers that work there are super friendly and helpful. They actually love being there.
I havent sat in a bad seat yet. This time we saw Come Far Away up in the third balcony and still had good view and could hear everything. Bathrooms are located up there and a snack and bar.
Went and saw a show and it was delightful, been here a bunch of times. It is clean and charming. The ladies room was also clean which is always nice in a public place. Enjoy going here, only downside is that the seats are close together and feel like you are right on top of the person next to you. Doesn’t stop me from coming back for a great show.
Love it as always. Great production (Jesus Christ superstar)
Great show. Come From Away. It takes some time and traffic hassle to leave after the show--we parked next to theatre. Good that we have Broadway shows coming to town.
As a spot to see a musical I would recommend. Sat right behind sound booth and only once or twice was it hard to hear. Otherwise everything was done well. First tome going, will likely see something again at this location!
1st time here, seats definitely arent designed for taller people with legs for days.
This venue is practically perfect in nearly every way, but I will not come back. The parking was convenient, the theater is pretty, the staff are all friendly, everything is clean ... But the seats are so small and very close together. It is quite uncomfortable to have people so close behind you, and everyone even slightly larger than average could barely sit properly. Those who are tall or have long legs were struggling to not encroach on their neighbors. It wasnt just a couple of overly big & tall people, it was a problem in every row. Its a shame, the building is beautiful and the sound was fantastic, they just need to upgrade the seats into this century.
If you are going to see broadway entertainment this is the place to go. Old but very classy. Volunteers are awesome
Show was awesome. Seats where grest will definitely be back
We love the theatre that comes through Rochester. The RBTL does a great job of bring in some great shows and a mix of old and new.
Everyone so helpful. Great venue for the concert. Gorgeous architecture!
Meke the trip to the RBTL two or three times a year. Our first time this year was for yhe Lion King. Everything about the performance was magnificent. The sets, the cast and the music. The venue always breathtaking such a jewel for Rochester. Cant say enough about the evening we will be back.
This theater gets alot of good acts and has many good seats. Parking can be a pain getting in and out and lacking legroom in many seats but being a smaller theater even the bad seats are pretty good. If you want a way to see great shows locally then check it out.We have watched numerous shows here and not had a bad experience yet.
Beautiful theater. Gorgeous place to spend time indoors enjoying theater and the arts. The auditorium is sizeable. The balcony has a good view and the second floor is nice. There are tables to sit at, outside of the balcony space on the second floor. The carpet is a nice color with pretty designs on it. The architecture inside and out transports you to another time.
Pay ahead parking is great. The whole experience is great! Wonderful place to see a show!
Went to see Hamilton. First visit to this historic venue. Probably will be the only one. Only the ground floor seats are truly accessible. And they almost always cost more. Everything else was fabulous. The acoustics, the staging, and the play itself.
I brought my son to see Anastasia. It was absolutely stunning!
No issues. Great evening out.
Saw Hamilton here. Excellent venue. Beautiful, very clean. As other reviewers have stated, the seats are tight. Acoustics were excellent. The staff was incredibly kind and helpful, even when we were the jerks who were running late and got there LITERALLY at the last minute before the show was supposed to start. Hope to be back soon!!
Amazing shows in a very nice theatre. I look forward to seeing more shows of great quality here in the future!
Great auditorium. From where I was sitting the sound was rather clear and distinct, great view of the stage. Seats were relatively comfortable and the ushers and bartenders we all kind and accommodating. We saw paw patrol live. It had great production value and kept the audience involved. Overall would deffiently go to see just about anything performed here. Hamilton is coming to the theater and will be a great showing.
Convenient parking and a great venue. Staffers were all top notch!
The Lion King was amazing! African harmonies and drums and the costumes! Wow!
I have not seen this much energy since watching a performance from soldiers of the USO years ago while serving in the US Army. I loved it.
Yes it is an old building but that is the best part of this performing arts center! Cant make anything new that has this character. Build a parking garage out back and it is perfect.
Beautiful, well kept theater. Booster seats available for children at no charge. Clean and plentiful restrooms. Good concession choices - typically have crackers and cheese, hot pretzels, sweet roasted nuts, candy, water, beer, wine. Bring a sweater or light layer. The cooler temperature is excellent for how close everyone is seated, but if you end up in seats near the AC vents you might be a little chilly. Expensive seats are roomier than cheaper and balcony seats. No free parking onsite or in nearby lots. Available street parking is very limited. There is an on-site box office with limited hours, get your tickets there to save on the ticket master surcharges. Group sales are available and it can be a lot of fun to organize and go with a large group of friends or co-workers.Amazing broadway productions brought to town. This is so valuable to our community! I have been able to see so many more wonderful musicals than I would have if I had to travel to NYC to see them. I am very thankful for that!
Iconic for bringing theatrical and musical performances to Rochester for decades. The seats are comfortable but depending on the location of your seats you may lack leg room. The box offixe hours are convenient.
Great productions. Good parking. Immense talent. Great value.
Great show! Clean venue. Excellent time.
Saw The Lion King it was great the seats are a little rough on the back
Wonderful acoustic. Beautiful ️️
Went to see Hamilton here. Great show! Theater is nice, the staff works hard on getting people in and to their seats. Ushers were professional and courteous. Great experience!
Awesome...went to see Lion king...great performance..and the theater was. great handling everything...great experience...highly recommend...
Great historic atmosphere. Love going there
Went to the commission concert with my better half an we really enjoyed our self (God Bless) Amen!!!
Great shows and big theater, parking is available, and many snacks and drinks
Great old theater. Very serious about keeping outside food and drink out of theater during a show.
I have always liked the theater. There is plenty of cheap parking near by and usually you can find free parking if you are willing to walk a bit. There really isn’t a bad seat In the house, so don’t feel bad if you are in the back. I have heard that the productions have to scale down due to the size of the stage but the shows are still great. The only criticism I have is that tickets can be annoying when you have question, as they list a number to ticket master. Additionally, I can often hear the spot light operators chatting during the shows.
Saw the Donna Summer show last night. Fabulous performance with beautiful singing and dancing!! You have to go see this one!!
Amazing Prestigious Theater with Spectacular Traveling Broadway shows & Musicals!! You will not be disappointed!
Beautiful was fabulous. The actors were great. I highly recommend this play for anyone who loves musicals or Carole King. Parking, however, wasnt great. I prepaid for a spot in what I thought was the lot across the street and it turned out to be the lot a block away. With cold temps that wasnt... cool.
This show certainly lived up to the hype!!! It was REALLY good!!! The set was simple but effective. The choreography was amazing and the singing/rap was fantastic!!! Just a great show.
My wife and I caught a live stage show of The Price Is Right. Everything was great, even the parking ($10.). Very convenient very casual. It was a good time
