If you are in Rochester MN around the holidays, be sure to take the Mayowood Mansion tour. $25 gets you a history lesson, trolley ride and tour with a guide through most of the house. Rooms are decorated by local organizations and businesses.(No photos allowed inside)

A stunning and gorgeous renovation of the Mayo-family residence. Tour guide was entertaining, well-informed, and very friendly. An exemplary job of historic-landmark preservation by both the Olmsted County Historic Society and the Mayo Clinic Foundation. A joy to visit and take the tour. Thanks!

A good place to visit if you are interested in the history of of Mayo. The mansion is filled and furnished with family heirlooms and artifacts. The tour docents do a great job of telling the story ad explaining everything. Worth the time and the tour price. I recommend this as a must do if in Rochester during their open season.

The stories were great and so were the tour guides. The house is not huge compared to many of the other mansion tours I went on. They kept the kids entertained with a sheet of things to find in the house, which was awesome. Im pretty sure there is stuff missing from the house though. The museum at Mayo has a bunch of Tiffany lamps, and I only spotted one in the house that might have been Tiffany. The grounds are awesome to walk around, although there is a lot of stuff missing from way back. Definitely worth the trip from the twin cities.

The tour is very interesting and Judith is a wonderful guide. I highly recommend it for those visiting Rochester, Mn. By the way, the chess pieces are arranged the wrong way. I do not believe that Dr.Charlie would play chess that way. Prescription: rearrange the pieces noticing that the last square on the right hand is a white one.

My wife and I stumbled across this tour during our 1 year Anniversary trip. My wife is a nurse and this tour was just what we were looking for. Our guide was very friendly, informative and did a great job overall. The mansion is beautiful and has such a rich history. I highly recommend a visit if you are in the area. We will be back at Christmas time for another tour! Thank you Mayowood!

Old Mayo mansion has been nicely redone. A nice place to visit/tour if you find yourself in Rochester. Docents provide a nice personal tour and you can learn a bit about the Mayo family. Not worth a special detour if you would not otherwise be in the area.Mayo Clinic uses the place as a corporate retreat for events. Definitely an excellent facility for such a purposes.

Beautiful home and property of Charles Mayo, one of the founding brothers of the Mayo Clinic Hospital. Tour guide was very knowledgeable of the home, the family and the artifacts and gifts kept there. The Mayo familys interests extended well beyond medicine, and there is lots to see and love for artists and history buffs.

We have been going to Rochester for many years and finally had time to go to Mayowood. We got there and a sign looked like you were trespassing but never mind and drive thru. There was a school tour so we came back for the noon tour. This was a well worth while tour. So much information about the family and history. The person guiding us was so fun with the facts. They have an elevator added and kept it visually looking like it always was there. It was late May and they were busy planting flowers. The grounds are beautiful. You have time after to explore. Enjoy a great piece of history.
