Only 3 stars because this is a self service station with NO seats. You have to book tickets online.Conductors were nice and professional. They dont treat you like a second class citizen like Greyhound drivers and staff.

Amtrak was great. I dont was very pleasantly surprised with the ease of boarding and departing. The staff was very friendly clean and well-organized. Bay seats and coats were great they were wide, with legroom, they even reclined. Amtrak was a great experience and I look forward to more pills with them

So easy to get a train ticket, and the train is so clean and quiet. The cafe car leaves something to be desired though

Whatever time the train is scheduled to leave, you better be INSIDE the cabin 5 minutes before departure. The train will pull off and leave you once the doors shut even a minute before departure time. I have witnessed many people walk up the ramp at departure time and the doors closing to be left watching the train pull off. GET THERE AHEAD OF TIME

I love that Amtrak now travels in and out of Roanoke Virginia. I would love it if there was a hub where one could get a snack and use the restroom while waiting for the train. This would be very helpful especially for the elderly and handicapped passengers. Also for those who have to sit in their cars while waiting to pickup their loved ones.

Super easy to get, change and use tickets to so many places. More availability to travel with pets would be great. Prices are very reasonable. A little more assistance for those who need it would be a good idea.

Departing from Roanoke is an interesting way of boarding / traveling. But if youre considering it, try it. Youll be nicely surprised.

Very good boarding area. Of course, I miss the good old days of the beautiful train stations, but I dont miss climbing up the steps to board the train.

The station does NOT have a heated or enclosed shelter to wait for the train. Basically just a platform with a roof.The rediculous ramps make walking to the train, while lugging baggage, an unnecessary hardship because its twice as long to get on the train.No restroom facilities or vending area.

I love taking the train, but I hate having to go to Penn Station to catch it. There is a nice waiting room with plenty of seats. They also have ample arrival boards and announcements for departing trains. Beware you must have a ticket to enter the waiting room, so if you are coming to pick someone up you are out of luck unless you can sneak in.

Comfortable smooth ride and easy to get work done. Also, beautiful scenery in Virginia - friendly (and funny) crew with convenient parking right next to the Roanoke station. Roanoke is a city on the rise and the train is a game changer for the region- now we have a thankful alternative to sometimes nightmare drives on the 81. On the section of track between DC and NYC, the train reached a top speed of 122mph on the best maintained track sections in the USA.

Nice and comfortable compartment. There are so many stops when compare with last time I took. A tight period of time stopped at DC for I need to go and fro for buying some food.

What a great and unique way to travel. We have talked about going by train to some place for years. We finally made that discussion a reality in 2017 by going from Virginia to New York City and back. We enjoyed the experience tremendously and did it again in 2018, and have another trip planned for 2019.

Good trip! We later booked another train ride and was canceled due to Covid 19. They were the easiest to deal with on our refund. We had our money in the account within 3 days.

With Amtrak, its hit or miss. Some good trips, some bad. I had family come down to visit me. I was told at one point that my familys luggage was literally thrown onto the train. It may take a year or more before they get the hang of things.

Had a great time on train the layovers were way too long to set on hard chairs for four hours and having to take your luggage to restroom with you and get it all in the stall would be nice if some of the workers instead of standing there saying hello when you walk by them if someone who works there would have a place near restrooms to stand guard over the luggage so you can at least wash your hands well thank God for hand sanitizer my other gripe is they tell you when your on the train about five minutes before your stop is coming up and you have to get your carry on and yourself down the steps (I was sitting on top seats on last jaunt of the trip the stop before mine I got my stuff down and headed down because the woman in front of me missed her stop because she could not get her luggage down due to the way others had thrown theirs up and she missed her stop they give you five minutes to get your baggage and yourself to the the off ramp and with disabilities sometimes you cant get down there and miss your stop. I got prepared ahead of time and was waiting before the train stopped I made mine okay just hated the plastic hard chairs at the layover my back was killing me

I loved it and enjoy the ride it was nice and peaceful I wish you had more trains running different times of the day but I guess things like that take time so thank you so much for your service

We are so pleased to have the Amtrak station back and Roanoke again! My sister regularly travels by train to come visit from Baltimore and always has a pleasant experience.The conductors, while not terribly chatty, will help you get a bag in or direct you with any questions.****NOTO BENÉ: BE EARLY!!!****The train WILL DEPART EXACTLY ON TIME, and it DOES NOT matter if you are running up the ramp, the train has barely begun to move, and they are just beginning to close the doors, they WILL NOT STOP OR HOLD THE TRAIN FOR YOUOn two separate occasions dropping my sister off to go back home, I have watched young people pull up at exactly the time the train is supposed to part, stop to laugh and hug and say goodbye to their friends in one case and parents in the other, and then casually stroll towards the train...Then take off at a sprint up the ramp as they realized the doors are closing and the train has begun to crawl forward...Only to find that the conductors will not stop the train for them

It wonderful to be able to hop the train in Roanoke i.stead of having to drive all the way to Lynchburg.

The only way to enjoy a visit to the nations capitol or to a baseball game in Baltimore or a play in New York. Love Amtrak!

Best way to travel when you dont want your car with you.

Riding on the train was great. We could get up and stretch and walk around. No stress from driving. Make sure to download your movies because the wifi was inconsistent. The food was limited but actually not that bad.

Convenient location but annoying service.The efforts to ensure that the boarding and unboarding goes smoothly, they have you line up outside painfully early, and sometimes youre standing by the track for 15-20 minutes in freezing cold. Everytime Ive been here, theyve been wrong about the gate door number we should wait by, so when the train arrives, the whole crowd has to sprint in mass to a train car 2 to 3 doors down.However, it is really a convenient location nestled in downtown Alexandria, with a 2 minute walk to Starbucks, Hilton and the King Street metro station.

Love to travel on Amtrak instead of driving to Massachusetts. Comfortable seating. No hassle check in. Great price!

When they pull that pre-packaged food, youll be happily surprised that your expectations were exceeded. Plugs, wi-fi, and quiet cars on the second floor...SAY NO MORE! Lol, but, please go in the quiet car, fall asleep and snore. Lol.
