Fabulous biofriendly printing studio with a huge communal work space. Dog-friendly and 24/7 access for studio members like myself. ^.^
I love Studio Two Three! Ive been teaching macrame and weaving workshops here for a year and a half and participated in many of their events. Im so grateful to work for an organization that exemplifies excellence, equality, and professionalism through the arts so well. Im always inspired every time I walk through the doors!
I have taken two classes at the studio and really enjoyed learning about printmaking. I feel confident my abilities will improve significantly w the kind of hands on training the facility provides. I am looking forward to so many things there and it really makes me feel like an artist. I intend to take everything I can afford and the classes are quite affordable. Everyone who works there is so helpful and I feel confident I will be able to catch up w the more modern ways of so my things, especially w the computer. Im not scared to get back in the game anymore. There is so much to learn, but the studio will help you w it. Im very excited I got set up w two three and I suggest anyone give it a try. Their gift shop is super fun and I bought 3 items rt away!!! I cant wait to get back later in the fall and work w everyone. The studio will is incredibly equipped to handle all types of artistic areas. Sincerely, Margaret Kelly
We hosted our wedding ceremony and reception in the event hall this past weekend and it was a wonderful and creative space to host our party! We hosted around 120 people for a seated buffet dinner and had tons of space and resources provided to us through Studio Two Three. All tables and chairs were provided and they allowed us ample time to set up the day prior. They deep cleaned the space and provided us an event coordinator as our main contact. Staff on site were always wonderful and friendly, the space is clean, bright, and accessible for guests which was perfect for us to doll up and make our own. Highly, highly recommend this space for your next rental - even a wedding!
I share a studio at Studio Two Three and sew and print on fabric there, plus I teach some classes. I absolutely love this place for its welcoming vibe and the fact that I can access the studio 24/7 to make art. I encourage everyone to check it out! There is a small shop with lots of prints and Richmond swag.... great gifts.
I have worked as an artist and taught with Studio Two Three for over six years. It is a wonderful place to create and the community of artists at studio two three make it a home away from home. The beginner classes are great to try out different kinds of art making. All levels are welcome, you dont have to be an artist to be part of studio two three, just bring your curiosity.
I am a communal studio member at Studio Two Three, and I love working there to produce my handmade prints that I sell and exhibit. It is a welcoming and dynamic place to work. The staff is friendly and helpful, and the other artist members are working on interesting projects and are usually happy to share knowledge of printing techniques. The classes offered at Studio Two Three are affordable and unique, whether you are interested in printmaking or other mediums of art-making or entrepreneurship. As a member, I am often offered opportunities to be included in events and shows organized by Studio Two Three. They truly support you as a working artist, which I appreciate. I highly recommend becoming a member, supporting, and/or simply visiting Studio Two Three to see the latest happenings!
I love this space. I wasnt sure the first time I went for a class but was quickly won over by the openness and warmth of everyone working there. I had a fabulous experience in class and am eagerly looking forward to more offerings. I imagine for those who actually use this as working professional studio space, theyre fortunate to be part of a great community as well. Thank you so much for giving me an excellent (and unique) set of workshops to choose from!
Worked with Studio Two Three for a social justice retreat. They were amazing, professional, and super accommodating. They were patient and really worked with us to make sure what we wanted came to fruition! Highly recommend!
I am both a member and a teacher at S23, and these folks are fantastic! They create a welcoming environment for people of any experience level, so whether youre an artist or just curious about learning something new, youll be comfortable here. I also manage Plaza Art, and were happy to send customers their way who are interested in classes or studio memberships. In my experience as a teacher there, KB, the Education Manager, is organized, supportive, and responsive, so its nothing but fun getting to share my passion for paper marbling with a wide range of people! Check this place out for all kinds of cool events, too!
I have been going to Studio Two Three ever since they moved to Scotts Addition, and cant say enough good things about this place. The classes are amazing and worth every penny. It has a wonderful event space and there is always something fun and exciting happening any time you stop by. HIGHLY recommend to all makers and anyone who wants to get crafty!
Studio Two Three is the best. I teach here, take classes here, and make my own work out of here. The classes are affordably priced, really instructive, and you get to walk away with a product you made. Ive taken a few and have enjoyed every single one. Super great to do with friends too or a great way to meet new people.
I have been teaching at Studio Two Three for a couple of months and it is such a great atmosphere! The classroom has everything you could need and it is a wonderfully inclusive space. I have also met a bunch of welcoming people in the artist community who are members here!
I had an amazing experience taking basic screenprinting at S23! The space is cool and inviting as soon as you walk in. KB was a shining star of a teacher, a perfect balance of laid back, encouraging, and fun! The class was paced well, allowing time to establish an understanding of the process and also allowing plenty of time to create. 10/10 would recommend to anyone looking for a fun one-time class or someone looking for a starting place to begin a long-term hobby. Will 100% be back for another class!
Really enjoyed my class at Studio Two Three! KB was competent and kind, as well as super helpful with the whole screen printing process. I got kinda dirty but it was really fun. Looking forward to taking another class soon :)
Had an awesome experience with the sewing 101 class. Very informative and one on one. Lisa was great!!! Ive never taken a class like this before and I am definitely signing up for more. Looking forward to it!!
I had a great experience when I took a beginners sewing course at Studio Two Three. The class size was small enough that everyone could receive one-on-one attention from our very knowledgeable instructor Sarah. She provided in depth instruction on every aspect of using a sewing machine, from winding a bobbin to changing the needle and making stitches. She also provided handouts that reviewed what she taught - a resource I still use when I sit down at my sewing machine! I would recommend Studio Two Three classes to anyone looking to learn a new skill!
Visited for a holiday print show and its a really fun place! Its cool to see all the equipment and everyone was really friendly. Easy to find parking nearby (relatively) and its within walking distance of a couple breweries.
I love taking classes at Studio Two Three! It is a great community resource that offers great one day classes at a reasonable rate. You can also rent studio space there or space for an event. There pop-in events for drawing and stitching are fun and its a great place to meet people who have similar creative interests as you. And check out their gift shop- tons of cute handmade items.
I took Intro to Screen Printing with KB tonight, and it was incredible! KB was awesome, and really fun. You can tell she really loves what she does, it shows. I’ll definitely be back for other classes!
This was my first experience at Studio Two Three for their basic screen printing class. KB was a great instructor that took the time to review the basics and let us all have fun with our designs. I will definitely be back for more classes!
Truly enjoyed the two classes Ive taken here. Interesting space, engaging and thoughtful instructors and a great mix of other attendees. Will definitely be taking more classes here. And the class fees are so affordable.
My 15 year old has taken a couple different classes at Studio Two Three. Each time he was met by accepting and caring teachers and patrons. Ashley allowed him to volunteer and help with the Studio Two Three truck on a few different occasions, which was great experience as well. We look forward to more classes at Studio Two Three!
Studio Two Three is easy and fun to communicate with, and they go out of their way to help the kids have a successful experience. They did the pre-work that helped the kids enjoy their art time, and kids of all ages engaged in making art that was meaningful to them.
S23 is a great place to learn everything printmaking and more! Ive taken several classes and each one leaves me excited and eager to make! They have a lot of experimental classes (Risography, color mixing for screen printing, and a really cool letterpress class with Amos Kennedy!!) that other places in Richmond dont offer. Also have been for their monthly pop-in classes/meet ups... like sip n stitch and figure drawing! I love this place!
I attended a class about a month back led by KB for beginners TSHIRT screen printing and loved it! KB was an amazing teacher, she knew so much about the studio and was very enthusiastic. The site was really cool and it was awesome to see all the machinery and tools that goes into printing. I would love to be able to come to studie two three and do it again -SO much fun!
I took a screen printing class and it was so much fun! I took my neice and she had a great time too. We came home with fun prints from the one night class. Id love to do it again!
I took a one day class at Studio Two Three with artist Emmy Bright and it was bliss! Everyone there is super helpful and encouraging and its a wonderful space. Im overdue for another class!
Studio Two Three is a great place to be! Their classes are taught in a small numbers so you really get the care and attention to grow as an artist. Along with that, they have a shop where you can purchase art made there.
If you are looking for a new studio to call home, this is the place. They have all the tools for printmaking and even have a digital lab with Adobe Suite and two awesome darkrooms!! Along with studio space, they offer a great variety of classes that are affordable and great for any skillset. There is no other place in town like Studio Two Three.
I took the paper-marbling class and had an absolute blast! We worked in pairs - but dont worry if you come alone, its super easy to find a partner. All of the supplies and prep work is taken care of, just show up ready to create!!
I took the Weave Your Scraps class under Emily Nicolaides - awesome instructor and class. Highly recommend!
I recently did a basic screenprinting class with KB. She did a great job explaining the whole process of screenprinting and tailored the class to each persons specific interests. I will definitely be back for more classes! Thanks KB!
I have some opinions
Its a great place to take classes in a great space. They also have a super cool shop with local Richmond merchandise.
Beautiful space offering tools, classes, and support for artists of all kinds. They are such an asset to this city and I always enjoy seeing what they’re going to do next.
Ive taken several classes here, and theyre always great. They have all the supplies conveniently ready to go, and the instructors are knowledgable and helpful! Ive loved Heather Millets Paper Marbling class and Sophie Treppendahls Monotype classes, in particular. Its a great way to learn a new skill in a friendly and supportive environment.
Studio Two Three is simply awesome! I first encountered the magic of this place ten or eleven years ago when they were a small, simple communal soace for printmaking artists down at Plant Zero in Richmond’s Manchester District. As they grew—as more folks came to know the magic of this place—the moved to a larger facility on Main Street. This is where I first formally joined them by taking eight or ten printmaking classes and helping to support their crazy notion of providing a publically accessible darkroom just as the whole photography world went digital. Now, in their palatial setting in Scott’s Addition, I have joined the S 2-3 crowd at the hip, gladly paying my reasonable rental fees that permit me use of the entire communal studio space and equipment and, with a little add-on, the recently upgraded best possible darkroom facilities for those of us crazy enough to shoot film (or, in my exceptionally wierd case) glass plates coated with silver syrup. The creative energy here is electric. The classes are unique. The instructors are incredible. This is truly the place to come when you want to discover something you love, and then learn how to make it. S 2-3 is led by a small group of creative, ridiculously capable women. Because of that, IMHO, the whole studio has a vibe that is welcoming, supportive, friendly, loving even, and free from so much of the corporate competitive feeling some art enclaves unfortunately develop. I love this place, and I suspect you will too, if you give it a chance.
A great place to learn or practice art skills. Fun people.
I took a class here and it was great! Parking was easy, the space was clean, open and inviting, and the class was awesome!
Cool class enjoyed it and gave me a good idea on screen printing
Great Class, Great Instructor & Learned A lot. Can’t Wait To Take Another One!
What I liked most about taking KBs intro to screenprinting class was that we were immediately trusted to make something. The class moved at a fast pace, but in a way where you felt that you could just jump in and get your hands dirty without worrying about being a beginner. KB is a great instructor--she is both available and patient to answer questions, yet does not hover or micromanage. Theres a sense of being able to experiment a little, even if that means making mistakes. I came away with a stack of prints that Ive been doling out to friends left and right. There was even time to do a few screenprints on shirts, for those who had brought them. If you have been curious about silkscreening and want to delve in, dont hesitate!
RVA is awesome. And Studio Two Three is just one example of the creativity oozing from its southern soul these days. A converted warehouse space made light and airy for artists to work and share their talents with each other and the people of the city. My husband and I went for the wrap party of the Current Art Fair - think awesome video installation + multiple bars + great people watching and connecting. Then my daughter and I went to their valentines shop with another mother-daughter combo before we hit the Richmond Ballets spring show this February17 ... best girl-date ever. Cant wait to do a class and share it with more people eager to enjoy the creativity of RVA!
I love this place everyone their is so nice and helpful when I ask questions about screen printing. So glad I am member!!
Actually not an art supply store. It’s an art studio. Very friendly staff though.
