Came all the way from Montana to see The Scenic Route, by and starring Jim Finger. Truly enjoyed the play! And the intimacy of the theater was wonderful. Thank you!!
They put on very good and entertaining theater!!!!
Thoroughly enjoyed Over The River and Through The Woods last night. Wonderful cast and the play was hilarious, sad, and very entertaining! Play runs through next weekend so dont delay.
A hidden Richardson gem. I have had the pleasure of experiencing this quaint theatre both as an actor and a patron and have yet to be disappointed. The foyer is very inviting...arrive early to a show and you could very well stumble upon a chess match. Quality creative arts. Love this place.
Love it here. People are disregarding local theatre. When they constantly put out some of the best content/plays.
Inviting entrance and decor. Friendly & personable crew. Strong storyline. Convincing acting. Well rehearsed.
Great staff and talent! My favorite place to catch a show!
We went to The Core for the first time a couple of weeks ago to see a play and it was just fantastic! Super fun atmosphere and the actors, writers, artists and directors are really talented. One visit to their theatre and its obvious that the Prince family invests much time, effort and heart in their company, their patrons and the actors/artists they work with. The following week we visited the dance studio at the Core and were so impressed with Annettes ability to teach good technique and, at the same time, make it fun and engaging for the young dancers. Our daughters loved it! When I learned the cost I was just floored. She offers highly professional dance instruction at a cost that single income families like mine can afford. We are so excited to have been introduced to this theatre! What they offer to our community is really beautiful!
My wife and I have been to four or five shows over the last year. James Prince who is the artistic director puts together some of the most fascinating productions, with some the most talented actors I have ever seen in community theater. If you go see a play, call the theater first and ask about the deal with the Brazilian Steakhouse next door. It is one of our favorite date nights. Great food followed up with wonderful entertainment. This is an inexpensive little gem located in Richardson. You will be pleasantly surprised at the fun you will have.
A great troop of actors and actresses! I have laughed & I have cried. They really know how to elicit my emotions. They seem to care about presenting the character accurately and freely, while at the same time reflecting their own personality. Everyone is so sincere, especially in meeting with them after the performance. I really enjoy hearing their responses when I ask hard questions about why or how they took on the personality of their character. The Core Theatre has a reputation as clean fun amid slapstick comedy. More so, they can present serious life situations with convictions and determination.Core is a refreshing step outside reality, into the shadows and sunshine, prevalent in the world. My wife and I attend as often as we can.Oh, their bloopers, given at the end of the performance, are hilarious to me. Often what they saw or thought was a blooper, I thought was just part of the show. Seems to me as a great way for everyone to break out of the play. While not perfect in every way or in every scene, I can feel the enthusiasm oozing from all over them! Well worth going to see.
Quaint little local theater. Lobby has lots of neat eclectic things to look at.
Fantastic local theater.
I have been to some of the Core Theatre performances in Richardson on Arapaho and have been very impressed with the performances. The plays written by James Prince and performed by wonderful actors have always been informative. and entertaining. We look forward to seeing more of his plays. His plays are wonderfully written and entertaining. The dedication James shared as a director and as a writer is inspiring. You are being entertained while you are learning about history and gaining a better knowledge of historical events. My friends and I were happy to have been able to see the presentation of FIre at the Coconut Grove that depicts events from 1942. It was a real life disaster story .By seeing James play I feel I came away with a better understanding of what happened and why it happened. Keep up the great work. I look forward to seeing more of your plays.
Comfy seats & great shows - this place is a gem!
The core theatre puts on some of the most artistic plays Ive seen. James Prince who runs the theatre and is the artistic director knows how to pick the right stories and cast them well. The productions truly come to life and touch the audience at their emotional core. Its awesome to see great community theatre like this flourishing and telling great stories. Ive notice that The Core Theatre tries to stick to original plays and productions which encourages the local writing community to get involved and keeps theatre thriving. If you are looking for a place to go with your date, or are just looking to get out for the night and enjoy some good quality local entertainment I would highly encourage you to check out The Core Theatre.
Outstanding experience all around. James has the best sets and comfortable theatre, and his wife Annette has an outstanding dance studio next door. He teaches actors of all ages & abilities, and really knows what hes doing. As an actor, I appreciate all he does for local actors, playwrites and directors. As a fan, The Core Theatre has fun family-friendly shows that have something for everybody. Ive done a few shows there myself, and love the experience.
A friend of mine told me that Fire at The Coconut Grove was a must see. So, I took my two children (boy 14 and girl 11). My little girl was thrilled about seeing a live play with her Dad....but I had to drag my son....he begged me several times not to make him go.I glanced out of the corner of my eye at the kids throughout the performance....both were riveted to the action. When I asked my son after the play was over if he would be interested in going to another live performance...he said I would like to see this show again. Wow! That says it all. From my perspective....the play was an absolute thrill on all levels. I would give it an 11 on a 10 point scale! Im not a theatre regular....but after my experience with this theatre (its cast, layout, seating) I have changed my perception of a fun night out.Great job Core Theatre!! Thanks for creating a welcoming place for my family!!
I have seen a number of productions and always enjoyed them. I am impressed with the production values. The actors work hard and the sets are quite good for such a small place. You wont see pyrotechnics and large scale lights or effects - just a commitment to making great theater.
Exceptional quality theatre productions in an intimate setting. Don’t mistake this for community theatre - the Core Theatre is a rare gem with outstanding talent in writing, directing, design and acting. Theatre that will inspire and entertain you. We throughly enjoyed the last two shows and will no doubt be regulars at the CORE!
Kudos to James & Annette Prince and their colleagues at the Core Theatre. Running a community theatre is a huge undertaking and they have consistently staged quality productions while maintaining a focus on original material. This is not to say that their adaptations arent worthy. They are. Enjoy this local treasure soon!
I absolutely love this theatre. Every show they produce is very well put together and always entertains. They choose actors well and the direction is inspired. This is such a fantastic little theatre that you can bring the whole family to enjoy. So often these days we see production value tied up with shock value. You cannot take your children or grandparents to those shows. Here, they entertain, tackle interesting (and sometimes difficult) subject matter in a way that doesnt offend. It is so refreshing to have such a theatre in the area and more people should come to check out this gem located right in the heart of Richardson.
Great Theatre and owners. Ballet and acting class are a+++. The Core Theatre production are a+++. My family hasnt been disappoint in the shows we have attended. We usually will see the same show multiple times and if we dont we wish we did.The Coconut Grove was excellent and a must see.
The Core Theatre provides a quality local stage experience in an intimate venue. My wife and I have enjoyed many productions, and we taken along friends and our grown children, who have really enjoyed the shows. The captivating plays are engaging and have evoked lots of laughter and a few tears. Inferno, Fire at the Cocoanut Grove: 1942 is especially thought-provoking and a great way to step into the shoes of those impacted by this historical event.
The Core Theatre is dedicated to an entertainment experience for the whole family. While poignant and thought-provoking, the productions presented by Artistic Director James Prince never stray to the gratuitous or salacious, but focus on strong storytelling, quality performances and exquisite stagecraft.I strongly recommend The Core Theatre in Richardson, TX to any and all who want to share positive, wholesome, live theatre experience.
As most community theater, some actors were a bit over the top, but overall was a good experience. I will go again. Up close and personal setting, friendly people before and after the show
The Core Theatre is a fantastic place to watch good quality productions. James Prince, the artistic director, has created unforgettable shows by use of talented actors and his incredible skills, from script writing to set building to directing. The Core Theatre is very clever in how they bring life lessons to life on stage and has cuased many of its audience members to truly think about our world and the part we play in it.
This quaint theatre is just the right fit for a lovely evening out. Quality shows performed by quality actors. You feel like part of the family the moment you walk in the doors. Definitely worth the price of admission.
Looking for local talent, this is the place.
The Core puts out some of the most original and moving pieces of theatre you will ever see. For a small company the quality of every show is very professional. James Prince is a talent not to miss.
If youre looking for a great night at the theatre, The Core Theatre wont let you down. The originality of the work produced and the family friendly atmosphere, make it a top notch place. I highly recommend it.
My performance company rented The Core Theatres black box space for a production in October. James was exceptional to work with -- excellent communication, always clear, direct, and courteous. I highly recommend working with them both as an artist and as a business.
Battle of Blair Mountain was amazing. The cast was fantastic.
A great atmosphere is always created on stage, thought provoking and entertaining productions. The kind, that make you laugh make you cry make you angry they always seem to touch you.Great place great people.Go for a visit you want be disappointed.
My family & I have attended various plays at the Core Theatre. We have also had our daughters take dance lessons as well. James & Annette Prince do a fantastic job of creating a showcase for the arts. The plays take you through various emotions depending on the story being told.A couple of my favorites were Fire at the CocaoNut Grove, and One Night to Remember. The Cocaonut Grove was dramatic retelling of a tragic historic event that brought about a change in fire codes and laws. The story was well written and well acted. Marvelous job! A Night To Remember was a funny, romantic love story. It even had outtakes done by the acting team on the particular night that I took my daughter. Well Done!It is a great place to take family or a date and enjoy great story telling through live acting!
Had a great time!
We love The Core Theatre. The shows weve seen there have been fun and meaningful. We will definitely return and invite friends!
The Core Theatre is a wonderful tight knit family that produces quality theatre and hits the core of your heart. I have not only performed with TCT I have also enjoyed watching and collaborating with fellow actors and actresses. James Prince consistently produces full bodies of work that speak, engage and leave you feeling full. TCT and the work that goes into the stage productions are that of quality talent and quality work. I would encourage those whom have not experienced Core Theatre to attend at least one show and revel in the amount of talent and dedication that goes into each piece of work. Great theatre, great work and great people.
I had the opportunity to see the first run of The Cocoanut Grove, and although I wasnt familiar with the incident, the story caught my attention immediately. The portrayal of events and emotions in this tragic story was impressive. It captures the essence of this moment in history, and shares it with the audience in a moving way.
I have seen several shows at the Core Theatre - ALL are presented with such excellence! What a great company! My absolute favorite performance has to be INFERNO: Fire at The Cocoanut Grove 1942. It was definitely an emotional performance and a tear-jerker for me. The Core Theatre is a true blessing for the community!
The Core Theatre in Richardson TX deserves its growing recognition and acclaim for the kind of plays it produces; its originality and quality. Get to a show as soon as you can! Break a leg in Boston!
Ive seen a few shows here and been in one. Super nice theatre and staff
I have been many times at the core theater has always been a very pleasant experience, production has been impeccable and always a fantastic selection of actors and the jamess introductions had been always fun, For sure i do not going to miss the next show, its good to know that they are taking one of the show to Boston, I have seen The Cocoanut Grove show here in Dallas and it was fantastic as always. good luck in Boston
I have enjoyed every show Ive seen at The Core Theatre. They find stories that are touching, and entertaining and interesting!
This is a super cool, quaint theater. Great acting and an owner that loves to entertain!
I want to applaud Core Theatre for its production of FIRE AT THE COCOANUT GROVE 1942. Richardson and DFW should be proud. The play was an honest telling of an American tragedy that made me feel I had been transported to 1942 to gain better insight into the lives of some of the vicitms of that ill-fated night. The playwright/producer/director/actor, James Prince, is such a multi-talented theater artist who takes little credit for his good writing. I look forward to what James Prince and his Core Theatre will come up with next!
I had a chance to see Inferno: Fire at the Cocoanut Grove, 1942 a couple months ago at the Core Theatre in Richardson, TX. I was really impressed by the cast and its job to convey an important message about a fire that changed fire safety laws we know of today. This is a story that everyone should be aware of, and I learned that there is going to be a production of this same show in Boston, MA at the Boston Center for the Arts in February of next year, 2016. Ironically, the theater is a mile away from where the actual Cocoanut Grove nightclub originally stood. I am going to try to make the opening in Boston, once I find out more details.JohnDallas, TX
A great venue for thought provoking material and fun!
Nice place
Support your local artists
Its in a strip mall and I was not expecting much, but the actors really put a great show.
Hip Theatre with a lot to say.
