Dont believe the pictures you see on the website! This hotel is extremely run down! Wallpaper peeling off! Bathroom not clean! Furniture completely abused! Carpet not vacuumed! Hair on the sink! Stains on the dresser! I wouldnt stay here again if it was FREE and they offered $2000 in comps! Plus this hotel is a mega spot for ladies of the night kept getting approached!! Go to the Eldorado!!

An average hotel experience. Nothing exciting, nothing terribly bad. Just average. The few employees we had interaction with were polite. The pool guys are mask nazis though, even if there are NO other people there which is weird. Pool water was cloudy and cold. Hot tub not open due to COVID-19 restrictions. Room had a fridge which was really nice (although we did find old ice cream in the freezer:/). Bed was comfy. Great views of the surrounding mountains from our room on the 8th floor (once the smoke lifted). Location is walking distance to many other places in the downtown area. We walked to midtown as well, which is actually a nicer/cuter part of town currently. The homeless has become such an intense issue in the river walk area that we felt a bit uncomfortable walking around at night. Reno in general seems a bit depressed.

Fun place to gamble, about of homeless and other sorts of people asking for cigarettes or a dollar to play their free play. Better off going mid day to avoid that. Food is pretty good. Their pool is is awesome in the summer. They have bands play and a bar right there by the pool. Good times¡¡¡ENJOY!!!

Its okay. Been staying here for about 20 years. Have improved on the rooms. No nice restaurant. Mels is great, but sometimes you want a bit more fancy. AND, they really should give a bit on gaming

It was the food... Mels diner. Though it was cool to see all the photos on the walls. The food was kinda tasteless. We dosh spend a lot of time in the casino itself mainly because we looked for places with better food options

This Hotel will remain at a 2-Star rating, though it has the potential to be as high as a 3.5-Star Hotel. However, they don’t even offer the most basic of amenities such as a complimentary toothbrush. A motel 6 will give you a complimentary tooth brush. Always. As well as 99.9% of the other Hotels in existence.As mentioned, it has the potential. But it must have amenities for a higher rating.

The machines here dont pay as often as I would like. But I understand that its a business and if the machines paid out as much as I would like then they wouldnt make any money and would go out of business and I couldnt have that because I enjoy spending time here. Both my stepfather and my little sister worked here a little over twenty years ago so I would feel horrible if The Sands were to go out of business. I would rank it as one of my top five casinos to go to. The restaurants serve great food the rooms are clean and comfortable. I recommend you come and see for yourself because what I like may not be enjoyable to you.

If I could give it a zero star I would we stayed for the weekend for the first time in Reno Nevada. First arrival should be first impressionwhen we called front desk to ask to send a housekeeper to clean. she left two medium towels to clean up after us so she could not.This like she did not care about the cleaning of the room.Oh and out of the whole entire casino hotel they had not one vacuum that worked.Thats what the made told us or maybe she didnt feel like it so the management made her.The made said were too fancy for this hotel room.

My wife and I stopped in to have a quick breakfast, and boy was it quick, hot, fresh, and ready in a jiffy. We enjoyed it very much so. Thank you Sands for your hospitality. My wife and I will definitely be back.

Havent stayed in a room lately but the casino floors are well kept and the machines are always clean

The room was filthy. Cigarette Burns in the carpet in a non-smoking room. Numerous stains on the carpet. Old toothpicks laying on the floor. The bed felt like it was from world war I, lumpy. Had to put towels in front of the door so the smoke wouldnt come in to the room. When I needed toilet paper sent to the room the service was very fast.

Positive: The pool and the proximity to the Truckee River Walk. Also, the staff were very helpful and positive.

Great staff, good atmosphere. I have to give a thumbs up to the security.... absolutely top notch. Brian is especially on point, well done sir.

Stayed at the Sands for one night. While gambling there were zero waitresses. Took for ever at the bar to get drinks. I ordered some food from the Mexican restaurant inside the casino and that was the best part of the trip. I stayed on the 8th floor and the music from outside was unbelievably loud. I got absolutely zero sleep. Rooms were very out dated.

The Google photos don’t accurately depict the room amenities in the bathroom there was no dual sink or bathtub. The carpet smelled of musty docks and house keeping was horrible they didn’t service room and we had to call three times for towels that didn’t arrive until four hours after the third callTo make matters worse we wee charged a gratuity for house keeping. Strongly recommend you look closely at amenities before booking room. As the quality wasn’t worth the cost. Further we won’t be staying here again as it was a horrible experience

Place is large inside>its not classy or anything but Mels diner on the side has the best pineapple smoothies.

This was the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed at in my whole life. Wait.... second, the first place was in Albuquerque. First off my wife and I are Vets, an I’m saying this because we’ve camped in the woods etc.... we paid $420 that weekend at the hotel and for what? Wasn’t greeted at all for next in line. The front desk elder lady so super rude to the gentlemen in front of us. He forgot to get his forehead read for the covid scan which takes 5 secs. She told him to step out of line and go do that. She then told me to “COME ON”. I said “no, I’ll wait. He’s been in line long like me, I’ll wait.”. She then said again “COME ON” and I again said a little more stern “NO, I’ll wait”. Their transaction ended with him yelling out “YOUR CUSTOMER SERVICE IS TERRIBLE”. I went up. I was charged twice on accident and so was the lady ahead of me. Then the manager on duty said this in a so non caring way to the lady next to me who was charged twice “Oh it takes about 10 days for your refund to get back”. I was shocked how insensitive she was. Specially around these times when money is scarce for some. We went to the room. My fiancé instantly noticed a lot of ants on the bathroom floor. I said “it’s probably because we are the VERY last room that is never used. So they don’t properly clean it. We were 15th floor last room. We went to gamble. Came back at around 2:30am. She woke me up screaming at 3:30am “ANTS ARE ALL OVER YOU AND BITING ME”. I jumped up and noticed them and took pictures. I called the front desk and she was very helpful and nice. Great customer service. We went to the security and emailed them pictures and they told us it will be investigated. We moved rooms and it was ok but now she’s checking everywhere and having phantom itches. It’s now been a week and we haven’t gotten a email or a manager or supervisor saying anything. Not even a we’ve received your complaint or anything. I’m never coming here again ever in my life. I’d do the same if I were you. Customer service and Up keep was very minimal.

Awful guest services, bait and switch promotions, and a completely untrained staff make this place more of a dive than even Diamonds casino. With such poor service and run down facilities, this place should follow in Harrahs footsteps and close its doors for good. The loyalty program is a one-way street, and it is not in the guests favor. This casino makes offers, then not only do they have no idea what has been offered, but they do not actually provide it when it has been earned. As the loyalty program is not being honored until January, I will spend the rest of my yeah building loyalty with a better establishment. Bad form, Sands.... Bad form.

My friend stays here a couple times a month. She comes from Cali,and it only costs her gas to come up here. Her rooms,food,free play all taken care of by Sands Regency. Very satisfied

Reasonably priced, just didnt like how had to put deposit down.

Slightly outdated but expected worse. It was nicer than expected and had the important essentials covered, the beds were comfortable, the tv was nice and big, free parking and wifi. Nice and quick elevators. Overall very satisfied.

We had a bad experience. The TV didnt work, call the front desk asked them to fix it . 2 hours later still wasnt. Had to call again finally some one came. The toilet seat was broken. We ate at Mels Diner and my husband got sick from the prawns he had. The Black Jack tables are different. Probably wont be going back there.

Room was AWESOME!! Beds were very comfortable. My problem was the layout of the casino and guest services. The casino reeked of old cigarette smoke. Made it hard to breathe even through a mask.Then, we had a terrible time finding our room. Elevators were tucked away off to the side of the casino, as was, by the way, guest services. Not a well-planned floor plan. Also no restrooms on the first floor, and the restroomshad twists and turns as well.

I reserved a room online, they charged me 37$+ taxes, fees, then receptionist asked me 21$ more for resort and 75$ deposit fees.

Ride and werid staff. Druggies and homeless hanging out. Rude security staff. Not family friendly or safe at all.

The Sands has been recently remodeled and is now a destination Casino in the downtown area. Tell minimums are pretty cheap relative to the rest of the strip on the weekends. Slot variety is decent and the buffet is well valued for this offerings. Hotel rooms are pretty cheap here. Overall not a bad place to ball on a budget but also not the best in Reno.

I give this hotel a C-I cleaned the surfaces due to COVID and found the surfaces to be quite grubby. I cleaned the bathroom as it looked as though someone had used the toilet.For $30 a night it was ok.The staff at checkin were nice and helpful.

Upon checking into our room there was hair on both beds. Urine stains in the restroom. Everything was dusty. When we asked to have bedding changed it was not changed. When we asked for another room it had blood stains on the bedding. Talked to management and they were super rude.

I would definitely recommend this hotel in the future. Its grade A! I love the dynasty suites, they have a retro spice to me that makes my midwestern heart melt. Great people also!

Actually booked the stay at this location for my mother in-law and when I asked how her stay was she said it was very nice and much needed. She was able to rest and enjoy her trip. If we are in the area we will personally try this location out!

I was playing the penny machines. I know my luck doesnt follow me everywhere. But playing the machine here took my money as fast as I could put it in. I played several machines none of them would let me play. They just sucked up my money. It took me 25 minutes to blow through $100. That wont happen again.

This place is still a fun and exciting place if u like to win this is the place. They were vigilant about the safety factor which is good thing, there security was watching for violations. Asking for face covering if you didnt have it they would get u one . we still had a blast !!!!!!.

Could not check in because of their anti emotional dog policy. Also liar there is no sign posted at entrance regarding this unlawful practice.

No Microwave, bugs on the walls, no blankets, the coffee they give you tastes like its burnt, elevators from the parking garage did not work, 6 foot clearance into the parking lot, the tv did not work right, the room was disgusting when we came in there where baby diapers under the tv stand, not a lot of plugs, etc. Overall if you dont mind the bugs and are just going there to sleep you would be fine. (if you brought a blanket)

Room was fair aside from limited plug ins, and shower water temperature went from warm to seriously cold than extremely hot every use. Linens questionable per bed blanket burns and spill stains, limited accommodations. Room had great view and thermostat worked comfortably.

Positive: Check in was fast and easy. Pamela was very friendly and informative. Mels diner had a very large selection and very good food. Negative: While the rooms are large, ours was outdated. Broken outlets for the tv and the carpet needs a good cleaning. The bed was too firm for my liking. Alot of noise from the train right outside and just everything going on outside all night.

Fun place. Played cards for a couple hours. Not rich, but I liked it.

The check in staff after waiting 10 minutes and the on site handyman told him we were there he acted like we were bothering him and he was so rude!! We had just driven 12 hours to get there and were tired. The room was ok. But originally I was charged twice for the room. Then they took a deposit of $87 out of our account and 19 days later still not refunded. We only stayed 6 hours to just sleep after having to drive another 13. In these times money is scarce so that money taken out has really hurt us!

Had fun, but maybe the air wasnt working? A little stuffy in there. But I won so cant complain too much.

On August 22nd I stayed that the hotel. Upon checking out I realized I had forgotten my hydro flask in the room. I went back upstairs to get it but by this time housekeeping had already gone in and my hydro flask was gone. When I went to the front desk to have them call housekeeping to hopefully get it they were unwilling to help. I then asked if I could go back in to check one more time and they said no. We had a great time at the hotel but because of the front desks carelessness to help or resolve the issue I am forced to give the hotel a one star.

If you want to be in a Casino 100 % compliant and safe this Casino is either there already or the closest in Reno. So responsible. Impressed!

I came out from Vegas with a few of my friends to tour around and experience Reno for the first time. Lisa the supervisor in the bingo room is probably the rudest customer service agent I’ve ever experienced in my entire life. Her attitude is horrible. Definitely shouldn’t be working customer service let alone the supervisor. Just horrible, rude and a miserable lady.

Sorry but its small and the smell is horrible. I honestly wish I didnt stay here the smell is that bad. Also the people who work at the Mexican restaurant are very rude and it was like eating ash in there the smoke is so bad. The rooms even smelled horrible and I was in the 7th floor.

This hotel is bad.. we reserved 2 rooms on Expedia all fees included.. at a certain rate.. got here and had to pay additional fees, so wasnt the deal expedia offered scam. And to top it off got bit by bedbugs.. to change rooms was not easy either.Dear Sands your response is a joke... you are a my way or the highway Hotel This was my 3rd year in a row with you guys and it just got worse every year.. I have had this happen once before with the bugs at a place in Monterey Ca. at least they refunded my fee for the night .. the fear of the bugs and being bitten is one thing . but the fear of bring them home is another.. Either you just dont understand or you just dont care. Im sorry just doesnt do it... Ill never return to your hotel at this point. No need for a response Im done .

I will not stay here again. Sheets were dirty, staff was rude, but you get what you pay for I guess.. I slept on top of the bedding because the sheets on both bed had yellow and black stains. When asked for new bedding they told me no. Do not recommend.

We were planning on camping, diverted here by a snow storm. I have to say I really liked the place for the price, very spacious. Not really into all the gambling. But what I really liked was the gym on the top floor. It was better than a usual gym, mostly private (not a lot of gamblers bothering to go to this gym), and it was surrounded by windows, giving you a panoramic view of Reno, as if you were a Wall Street executive in a board room or something. So definitely a good place to check out, as long as you dont have a gambling problem.

Reservation was for a King bed, hot a queen. Was told that was just a request even though we paid extra. Dresser was broken, toilet lid was broken, shower head was broken. Housekeeping woke us up twice before 9am (no do not disturb signs for our room although others had them). Plus size is that the rooms are large and we love having Mels down stairs.

Dont book on Orbitz. What you pay upfront is not the full price. I was charged an additional $21.00 at check-in. I payed more for this hotel than I would have at the GSR. There was NO hot water in the shower, the towels stunk of smoke in an Non-Smoking Room and the room temp wouldnt go below 69. I will never book on Orbiz or this hotel again. Completely deceived by the price having to pay additional $ at check-in.

Positive: Very nice. Not too far from Lake Tahoe where we dropped our daughter off for dance camp. Staying at same hotel. Made direct reservations due to reduced cost. Melâ€s Diner in the hotel was very good. Masks are mandated.

There are hidden prices that can ONLY be seen IF you book. They dont honor 3rd party prices. Staff were rude. Tub didnt work. Didnt honor coupon THEY gave at check in. Will NOT book here ever again!!!!!!

We have free rooms frequently at the Sands, since new owner took over hes remodeling all the rooms, actually the whole place!! Love the new beds, love the Buffet, we always choose Carlos as our waiter hes the best!! The only thing that would make it better is Keurig coffee makers and microwaves.

Went to try the buffet! But in the meantime tried my luck!! Wow!! For me and my friends the slots were loose. The casino part was very clean. Even tho its a smoking casino, it doesnt smell like smoke. I won enough to pay for my familys whole dinner. The buffet was awesome!! Food was fresh, hot, delicious!!! Crab legs were cooked perfect!! Theres a very good variety for being kinda small. Desserts were on point! Definitely will return, again & again!!

If you stopped here make sure you visit Noel at one of the main bars just down from Mels Diner. Noels made my experience at the Sands a pleasant experience every time. Cocktail servers do an excellent job taking care of their customers. And I walk across this casino the employees smile at you and acknowledge that youre a human being. Small steps go a long way love this casino Noel keep up the hard work. Noel keeps the morale in that place.

Spent over hour at one machine gambling and was never asked if I wanted a drink nor did I see a cocktail server....

I love this place but the security guards are a little crazy and rude about wearing masks y pull it down to take a drink and before the glass leaves ur lips they are on top of you saying put your mask back on! And are not nice about it most guards tell you to in a rude condescending way

The card tables were fun, however maybe need another 1 more 21 table. Bathrooms were needing cleaning. Our room we had no hot water but maintenance man came right away to fix. Was happy they did.

Great food. Sat down at a machine, put the money in started pushing the button. I hit the button 50 (fifty) times and guess what happened . The wheels spun and nothing else happened. So I guess things havent changed since I wrote my last review. Its hard to win at the SANDS CASINO &HOTEL. They do have really beautiful rooms .I even broke out the Rabbits foot and my lucky pennies but they didnt help. Bring a truckload of luck, your gonna need it. Later T.C.

Requested a room switch as soon as we got there. There was no way the room was cleaned. There was hair on the floor, some sort of dried substance on the tissue dispenser, some sort of yuck on the bathroom door frame and someone left behind some sort of body fluids on the wall. If i didnt have COVID or an STD before i entered that room, i easily could now. The room was gross.

I was locked out of my room last night at midnight in my PJs because my key just stopped working. The girl working the front desk was extremely rude about it, like I did something wrong and when I told a manager this morning I felt like I got brushed offed.

Dont eat the tacos, pure grease. Housekeeping needs an upgrade, same with maintenance. Also, wifi only works part of the time

The good: affordable, close to everything, Mels Diner is excellentThe bad: staff is rude, I was harassed by security bc I was smoking with my mask off (am I supposed to smoke through the mask?) I’m all for safety but they were literally harassing me although I paid for 3 nights there, there were others smoking without a mask in the same area, and was minding my own business yet they kept harassing me. Another thing, although the deposit is cheap it took forever to be deposited back to my acct which that has never happened anywhere else although I visit Reno frequently.
