Loved this place. Right atop the marina store and just yards from the lake, this perfect little condo/3 bedroom apartment is the best spot for incredible views, easy access to the lake, and amazing seclusion. If your objective is to be surrounded by beauty, to have easy access to boat rentals and fishing, be close to great hiking, and to feel separated from all the hustle and bustle of tourism-central, than this is the perfect spot. We took full advantage of the kitchenette. The A/C was cool. The boat rentals were fabulous, Our kids loved this place: and even better, the parents loved this place. Will definitely have this spot of paradise on the super-short list for a return trip someday. Recommendations to other guests that may stay here: bring your own shampoo and soap. Nearest grocery store is in Hill City. Worms area great, so are white jigs and green jigs. All kinds of fish in this lake (we even caught a European Rudd - green jig at sunset).

The cabin we rented was absolutely amazing. We will definitely stay there again. The staff was friendly and to check in and check out were really easy and quick. I would highly recommend horse Creek resort to anyone or family looking for an awesome place to stay in the Black Hills.

The resort is located off a busy road which makes it easy to find. They had plenty of trees to absorb the sound of the many motorcycles that zip on by. It felt very private compared to some places inside the national forest. The cabin was very authentic. I would guess that it was one of the first buildings on the property. The owners had made many upgrades to the inside and it worked perfect for our family. The bed in the bedroom was not the most comfortable and I would find myself rolling towards the middle of the mattress. Not sure if it was listed in the details but the tub in the bathroom has jets and heated tile floors. The water heater was not big enough to fill the huge tub past the jets but they do have kettles in the kitchen that we used to boil water on the stove to finish filling the tub up to use the jets. They also had a fire pit outside for us to use. They do not sell firewood on site but you are able to purchase some just down the road. This property worked very well for us and cost the same (maybe even cheaper if you include all the amenities) as staying at a hotel. 95% of the hotels do not have a full size kitchen and you are then forced to pay even more to go out and eat . We packed all our food and then unloaded it into the fridge. We saved lots of money by making our meals at our cabin instead of paying to go out and eat every day.

We stayed in their oldest cabin(#14) It was great. Priced right. The owner and caretaker were incredibly nice. My wife and daughter had so much fun at the marina on Sheridan. The grazing cows were a good laugh around the campfire. Its a quiet place. My only concern is not their fault..very little grocery and beverage shopping nearby. Bring all your meats, grocerys, drinks, ice, firewood, that you need. Also its a very nice campground..not a resort. My family loved it. See you on a couple years. Thanks Mark and company.

My husband and I wanted a little get-away for our first anniversary. We purchased a Living Social deal last spring and stayed in one of the mini cabins this past weekend. (Cabin 5). The cabin was in great shape, very clean and provided everything that we needed. The gentleman who checked us in (I think his name was Don?) was very friendly and down to earth. The view was beautiful and we were lucky enough to see a herd of elk pass thru basically in front of our front porch the first night we were there. We went for dinner at the restaurant and the prime rib was very good. The service was exceptional by all. We then rented a pontoon the next day. The couple who helped us out again, were very friendly. I would recommend all 3 places to anyone!! Cant beat the service that we received from all!!!

The property was disheveled and old. It’s very antiquated. It smelled musty and dirty, the water was barely warm enough to shower, the master bed was saggy and squeaky, the TV in the family room was way to small for the size of the room and the sofa couch was broken. It needs a facelift and some TLC.

Stayed in original cabin with lots of charm. Part of our 2 day package was a 5 hour pontoon rental on Lake Sheridan which was a beautiful experience. Ate excellent dinner at onsite restaurant. Within half hour of most area attractions so convenient but not right in the middle of a tourist town so peaceful. Would definitely stay here again.

Just when I thought my trip couldnt get any better, I was invited to this place by a friend...First off, I got a tent site on the creek behind the cabin and RV rentals. The lawn was manicured flawlessly. The fire pits were cleaned and ready to go. The creek sounds lulled me to sleep nightly. Its quiet at night and close to the marina. I walked the national forest across the creek and saw wildlife and an enormous supply of raspberries, strawberry, and chokecherrys everywhere. The showers and restrooms were clean and plenty of hot water.I was invited by the bar and kitchen managers to have dinner and drinks. Sean and shelby were incredible as my bartender and chef! They got busy quickly, staff and management handled it brilliantly and professionally with a smile on their faces.I had a heffewiezen and an iPa off the tap, and both local brews were beyond tasty.Salad and bread came with my first draft and both were perfect size for the warm up. Next was the 10 oz. Prime rib which honestly looked closer to 20oz. Complete with veggies and baked potato. I had the prime rib cooked to a perfect medium rare and, I am not exaggerating when i say, it was the best I have ever had. And Ive had a lot!! I posted pics of the meal and the glorious cheesecake I had for dessert. To the cams, shelby, Sean, jacob, suzette and all the rest of these wonderful people I say!!! Thank you for everything!!! Very easily one of the friendliest and gracious spots on my journey!!!

We were camping nearby for the rally and drove past many times and saw the sign Best Prime Rib In The Black Hills so stopped one evening to try it out. The place is quite rustic and very pleasant place to eat. I ordered the prime rib and it was indeed the best I have ever eaten. It was cooked perfectly, was very tender and was a large meal. The cheese soup was to die for! We will be back next year at rally time again!

Best steakhouse in the hills. We go there 5-10 times every year for various family affairs and its always a treat. We love the beer cheese soup and the atmosphere. I dont understand about the fatty steak review but to each his or her own I suppose. Ribeye is a marbled cut of meat and its great, but marbling means fat (personally I think it adds flavor and enjoy eating fat). If you are cruising down 385 for the rally, vacation or even just need a relaxed setting to have a steak with your family this is the place.

We have ate here 3 times. The food is bland at best. My last outing, I tried the Chicken Oscar. This was a rubbery piece of chicken on a piece of toast. A huge disappointment. I give up!

Youre better off eating elsewhere.I had the chicken and my wife had a dinner salad. We each had a cup of beer cheese soup. The soup was very thick. Like nacho cheese sauce with a few sauteed veggies. Our server was efficient though not particularly friendly. The portions were large and the sweet potato fries were done very well, but the salad and chicken were fine though not anything to explicitly recommend.Food prices outpaced the quality but drink process were ok. The interior is nice and the location clearly a high point.Overall, the place was a bit overpriced and the food was average.

The service was excellent and friendly. Our food was brought to us in a timely manner as well. The prime rib was almost perfect but thats about it. The pasta was no different than store bought it was bland and improperly prepared. The sirloin steak, if you could call it that, was horrendous. The baked potatoes that came with our meals where half cooked. It was extremely expensive and horrible food we will not be going back

So this was over a year an a half ago that I stayed there, but I couldnt remember what it was called until now. Anyways August of 2014, I stayed there with a friend after over exerting ourselves backpacking in the black hills. We loved the beer cheese soup, the best we had ever had. The owners where extremely nice, and agreed to drive us back to our car several miles down the road since were exhausted and really didnt want to hike any further. I dont know if you guys will remember this, but thank you again! You probably saved our legs from falling off. ;)

Stopped in for dinner after an 8 hour road trip. Was told there was a party and it may be an hour before we could be seated. This with a nearly empty bar area. Unless 20 more people were showing up, there was no reason not to seat us. And we were at least as well dressed as the rest of the diners.

Terrible place to stay. This is not a resort, its a camp ground. The pictures are in the adds are nowhere near what you get. Cabin 14 is very old. We rented it for 2 bedrooms but the upstairs bedroom had a padlock on the door and there was no access to the 2nd bedroom. The bed in the master bedroom is awful. It squeaks like its 50 years old. Comon invest in a new bed please. The tv didnt work and they knew that before we checked in but they were not honest enough to tell us that before we checked in. We had to prepay at checkin. Who does that? Nomally anywhere else you pay at checkout. They expected us to still pay full price even though the tv didnt work and the 2nd bedroom was locked. It was so bad we didnt even stay the night. We left and found a nice hotel room. I asked for a refund and they refused to refund us. This was a total ripoff. I would not recommend this place to anyone. Management is dishonest, missleading and falsely advertising what they have to offer.

We ate at Horse Creek Inn Restaurant for Fathers Day. We were the very first table seated at 4:00PM when they opened. (No other people or tables were there until around 4:30PM.) That being said, we had to battle flies upon flies around us. We made several remarks to our server about the flies that were swarming around us, but nothing was ever mentioned or offered to help us out. When the suspected owner showed up, I went and asked her if there was something that could be done. By this time, all 4 of us were sick and tired of the fly problem. I had to ask to be seated at a different table at the very least as the owner would not offer to help us either. I did get told that she had the place sprayed on the outside to help keep flies away, though. (Hmm, is this an ongoing problem?)I hate to say that we wont be back because the food really is good. But, it really is not enjoyable nor appetizing to have to constantly swat at 3-4 flies around your food, drink and body while you are trying to eat your food. I swear all 4 of us did take a shower prior to going to eat and none of us were wearing cologne or perfume to attract the flies.I would give the service a better review IF they would have offered to assist us with trying something--anything. But, like I said above, I had to ask to be seated at a different table. Nothing was taken off of our bill and no offer for a free desert was made either. When I went to pay my bill, I was never asked if our meal or experience was better after being reseated or even an apology from the owner as she was the one who gladly took my money. In my opinion and speaking for the rest of our party, make sure that your table is not the only one in the restaurant during the season of flies. You will not enjoy your pricey meal. Wait until there are at least 3-4 other tables in the restaurant so that you only have to deal with 1-2 flies at your table and not 3-4 flies per person.

The prices are too high for the food served. Its ridiculous to ask $9.95 for a wedge of iceberg lettuce with dressing. Ridiculous!!Steaks were ok at best. The atmosphere is nothing to talk about. Not impressed. Service was ok.And finally the dessert - that my hubby felt we needed to order since we were out celebrating my birthday - was dry and the flavor was not enjoyed by either of us.We will not be recommending this restaurant nor returning.
