Took my birthday pictures here on the stone steps. Very quiet and my kids love the playground.

Home to a wonderful 1916 Herschel carousel in immaculate condition, complete with operating band organ! Beautifully maintained and restored, the glory of the whirling painted horses and vintage paintings could have enthralled me for hours. The De Kleinst band organ is well maintained and sounds great as it plays The Time Warp with just a touch of ironic anachronism!

My son liked it, but I wasnt too keen. Its close to home. I dont care for the sand or metal equipment. 2 slides were too hot to use. I wish there was a bathroom close to the playground. Otherwise, quiet and spacious. The toddler play set was well shaded.

I often walk on the outdoor track at Chavis weekly. It offers a pleasant, friendly atmosphere. I enjoy it very much.

I go there every other morning to walk and run the track, it is very peaceful and helps me keep my body in shape

My two-year-old granddaughter and I really enjoy and appreciate the track at Chavis Park we get exercise and get a chance to meet a lot of good people

Nice historical park with new carousel house (original building is still on the property), pool, and playground. The playground has vintage equipment for older kids — metal slides and ride-on toys — that creates nostalgia from my own childhood, but get much too hot to be usable on a sunny day. The toddler equipment (the label says it is designed for children aged 2–5) is made of the newer recycled plastic material, and this portion was under the shade of trees, which was nice on a hot day when we visited. The ground is sand in the entire playground area, which is quite large. There are also swings, including a few bucket style for young kids. The water fountain wasnt in operation and there was a little bit of trash on the playground, but nothing too unusual.

I take my grandboyz at least once every other week they love it there and so do myself and my husband, its fun watching the children play with no type interruptions

Went to the STEM with SOUL Lego competition and it was awesome!

It was my first time here and it had a really cool carousel and nice walking paths and playgrounds. Will return!

I always Enjoy walking at this facility. Its a serene and low keyed atmosphere. However I notice while walking early in am,that the lights are not working around the track . Please be on notice to repair this problem.

Chavis park features a stunning carousel, open playground surrounded by old growth oaks, outdoor pool during summer months, tennis courts, running track, baseball fields, open gym for basketball, and, for a small monthly fee, a weightlifting facility. There are, also, outdoor covered picnic areas available to rent for events as well as rooms inside the center all of which are excellently maintained. Overall, its a wonderful park for the entire family.

I took children under are 12. First they swam and after that we took a train ride. It was an uinexpensive outing..

John Chavis Memorial Park is a great physical asset in historic South Park. This park has a pool, tennis courts, a play ground, three picnic cabanas, a baseball field, and a center with classrooms. This is one of the best kept secret s in Raleigh. Its great for family reunions
