We did a wonderful social distanced nature program with Ranger John about Turkeys. The park.is a great place for kids and adults to walk, run and enjoy the nice weather. Facilities were clean and the staff were present making sure folks were social distancing and wearing masks .
Beautiful and well maintained trails. If you combine several trails, you can get in a nice 5 mile trek. The hike/walk isnt strenuous but its perfect for a nice jog or family outing. There are some very clean and accessable streams to explore as well. We saw a lot of interesting wildlife and it was just nice to get away from the busy parts of North Raleigh while not having to go too far outside of town.
The trails have become my new favorite walking place. So peaceful you forget youre in the city!
It was our first visit, and we came for the Winter Solstice Walk. The park is beautiful, perfect for a tree bath, and the staff were knowledgeable and patient. My son asks a lot of questions all the time, and they were so sweet to him and answered fully, with no sign of frustration, complimented him on asking questions, and invited him back to ask more. I was so touched and appreciative, I could have cried with gratitude. The programming was great. We will be back...many, many times
Cannot love this place more. Many different ways to explore and so nice it’s so close to us. Pretty well preserved - even with a lot of trees down right now. We love the white trail along the creek and will come with swim clothes so the toddler can cool off.Love the playground (when it’s not coronavirus) and the picnic shelters. So many fun things here to do. A must if you live in the area and enjoy anything outdoors.
Really nice place to walk around with family and kids, specially during covid. Its very peaceful and I saw most people walking with face masks.
Weve lived about 10 minutes from here for 5 years and finally visited this past weekend. I truly regret waiting so long, its such a beautiful park! So much fun too, from spotting the little bits of wildlife (we saw a little snake, deer, fish), climbing on the boulders, and playing in the sand and water in the creek. We plan on making monthly visits (at least) from here on out.
Maps need attention as weather has taken its toll. Lots of options as there are plenty of trails off of other trails. Love the Lake view we will be back.
Amazing park, beautiful all times of the year. Dont be deterred by the hurricane damage, after walking through that the rest of it is amazing.
A hidden treasure in North Raleigh. Great walking trail around a lake with lots of wildlife.
If you need a paved greenway, there is one nearby. The parl itself has unpaved hiking trails, public restrooms, nice scenery, fishing, and open spaces with a playground.
Beautiful area lots of great trails. I love walking around and taking pictures! The wild life is great as well!
Lovely Place For Walking And Definitely Fishing! Highly Recommended!
Beautiful clean park. So many different areas to explore. Great creek to let the kids play in off the trail that starts by the playground and picnic pavilion.
The trails are lihtly used and the terrain is very just a perfect two mile hike.
Hiking trails nicely kept and wide. Fun day playing in creek and seeing the turtles in the lake. Wish paddles boat we around but maybe next time. A great place to take a break with or without the kids.
They have a really cute garden and sandpit for kids.
Nice trail, sorta feels like you might get lost tho.
This is an excellent park. They have multiple trails for walkers, runners, and, bikes. Chloe Loves this park. There are always plenty of people around, and people with dogs because its perfect for walking our dog. Just be aware that as of posting this comment (Jan 19) part of one of the trails is closed, and one of the lakes is drained. Its temporary, and doesnt hurt the enjoyment of the park since there are other trails.
Hidden gem in North Raleigh suburbia. I often come here after work to hike and clear my head. The forest here is dense and much more mature than you would expect in an urban area. Although information is hard to come by, the place has an interesting history of being a boy scout camp during the 60s-70s. There are random structures and shelters throughout the park that must be remnants from that time.
Beautiful local park with a small lake, playground, fields, and lots of events sponsored by the city of Raleigh. For moms with strollers, the rough path down to the lake can be hard to ride on. So just come prepared! Really beautiful in the fall. The hike around the lake is best for adults or older kids because it is a natural path.
Appreciate creation. Awesome
Pleasant place and greenery around. Good to come and spend some time with friends and family.
Love this park it has miles and miles of different trails. Most of the trails are in the wood line so it’s shaded and cool even on hot days. If you want awesome trails that aren’t super crowded try this park.
Cool place for sure. Lots of trails that go off by themselves and are secluded. The trails are also well maintained
I love walking here and enjoying the forest without the fear of getting lost.
Great park. Had a blast with my wife and 3 kids here. Didnt get to do any of the trail walk (will do next time I go). We did play at the kids playground area and walk by the lake. The kids enjoyed the playground and sand area a lot.
Nice serene park tucked away in North Raleigh. The preserve is always pristine. Also has nice picnic areas and a nice playground. Has numerous trails.
Great place for a short hike. Playground for youngsters. 2 shelters.
Good amount of trails and convient to the city.
Great park to take a family with younger kids on a nature walk!
Quiet, peaceful oasis near DurantThis nature preserve is a wonderful, tranquil area with trails from 1.3 miles to more than 2 miles. You could combine them into a longer walk. The park is very dog-friendly--we saw lots of other dogs and their humans. This is a fantastic place for shinrin-yoku--literally forest bathing in Japanese (walking and being attentive to the forest; it improves health and reduces stress). The lake and trees are beautiful. A gem.
Such a great place to connect with nature. We took our kids and taught them along the trail each time we came across something new. Skipped rocks in the lake, listened to birds and frogs, watch the turtles peek in the water. It was awesome. Theres fishing piers, camping, picnic shelters, a traditional playground, but mostly just beautiful lake and non paved trails.
Well kept trails, great school program, lots to see, clean bathrooms, and nice playground. Kids were engaged during the program and loved playing on the playground afterwards.
Smallish, construction going on in parts right now. Kept seeing the same people over and over even though we were taking different turns. Paths are comfortable. Dog friendly.
Old Boy Scout camp turned into a fun park. Good variety of trails, picnic areas, a fishing pier, and a playground. Also fun to look for deer, birds, turtles, squirrels, and other animals.
Very nice walking trails
They said they had opened the park, but when I went to the bathroom it was locked! Access to a bathroom is a very important thing for 75 plus citizens. There were also obstructions laying on the paved walkways. Very much a danger to anyone. Kids in the streams which is a great concern to me because of the copperhead snakes in the area. I personally have seen 4 while working in my yard this year.I live near by, Im over 75 and want to enjoy my walks on the greenways, sidewalks and the park. However; between the people with pets on 25 foot leashes or in some cases no leash at all and bags of dog poop laying on boulders, or along side of the trails/sidewalks or more so not bagged and just left on the walkways leaving odors and slippery spots to anyone walking/running. Then there is the mess of cleaning ones shoes if you step in it.When will we require pet owners to teach their pets to go in a certain places in their own yards and not take them to others yards, the greenways, sidewalks etc...As a responsible pet owner for about 55 years, I would never have thought of deliberately taking my dog to any place but home to go.
Nice place to walk n have fun.
On our last visit we saw a crane and 5 deer. It feels as if we are way outside the city.
A lovely way to spend an afternoon. Clean, scenic and accessible.
On the outskirts of Raleigh, this is a small hidden gem to get away and take a walk in nature. Middle of the week could have few people so you can really enjoy nature. The water level was low and there was some construction still going on, but it didnt detract from the beauty of the place. We went here on a trip and had a chance to canoe on the lake so much wildlife the staff was very friendly and made the trip worthwhile
Beautiful park with great trails! Great for kids, for running/walking, and fishing. Trails are considered easy for hiking/running
Nice bit of nature in the middle of north Raleigh. Good hiking/trail running paths. Famous for the sunning turtles by the lake.
Such a lovely park with beautiful walking trails and open spaces to play!
This is a hidden gem in North Raleigh, especially since the dam repair. Good variety of trails including a fun little mountain bike trail. Nice nature areas for small children as well as access to gentle streams.
So nice to have such s lovely park right in town and at the east side at that. Very woodsy and nice walks around the lakes, short or a few miles. Dog friendly. Paths quite easy. Not hilly. Benches to sit quietly. I really like this park.
Great local park and reserve. You can bbq play basketball volleyball. They even rent out fishing rods for free ! Great. Trails
Great park! Very well maintained. I look forward to visiting the butterfly garden in spring.
My dog loves swimming in the creek, which is very clean.
Wonderful.park with nature trails, pavilions, playground, dock fishing, butterfly garden, and bird park. Dogs are allowed (on leash, of course). Wonderful for a stroll with kids, friends, or your special someone. There are also bike trails (they might be closed after rainy days).
Been coming to this park as a child...I absolutely love being here
Beautiful, natural trails! You can choose to do a short walk or as long as you want to go without ever having to walk the same trail. Its always an adventure! Durant is one of our favorite walking trails!
Nice trail by stream for kids to play in
Shhhh. This place is a secret . A great find.
The trails are well marked and they have a nice playground for kids. I really enjoy that several of the trails run along trails and creeks as well as the large lake!
Love it....
We walked the trail that went along a creek. Beautiful and shaded.
We had a great time here. We saw turtles, frogs, ducks, and more. Beautiful setting for a walk or picnic.
Whenever we want to stretch ours and our doggies legs, we like to walk the trails at Durant. The trails are well maintained and varied. The lake trail is especially interesting as it wanders through the woods, over the two dams and around the lake. Sometimes a snapper is to be seen sunning itself. My brother introduced this place to me in 2014/2015 and I’ve been going ever since especially when I need to clear my head. Very beautiful!
One of the finest parks in the area. Great hiking trails, playground, bird watching, 2 lakes and floating piers.
Great place to spend an afternoon or morning.
Beautiful place! Went to a wedding reception here, it rained and was cold, and it was still one of the most beautiful wedding reception venues I had ever been to. Loved it!
The walk around the lake was great and all the turtles were lined up on the logs.
Wonderful park to spend the day! Trails winding through lush green forests almost feeling like hiking into a wonderland of prehistoric trees and brush. Great variety of trails and scenic views, and the rangers are always friendly and helpful.
Nice 1 hour hike. Bring the dogs. Strollers would be tough. Hike over to Compass Rose brewery
Great place to relax and
File have great water facilities but they have let them go.
Great place for family hikes with kids of all ages. Several ponds and playground.
Great hiking trails and not crowded.
Beautiful serene and peaceful spot. Great place for a walk or picnic! Well be back.
Beautiful and serene
So beautiful I just love this place a great place to come to clear your mind walk your dog cook out enjoy the beautiful lake great walks
Nice place for a dog walk. Trails arent very technical and the acreage isnt very large. Not great for mountain biking. There probably isnt more than 6m worth if trails.
Peaceful hidden gem
Beautiful trails, plenty of benches to sit and relax, a dock for fishing, and playgrounds for the little ones! Its perfect!
We really like this nature preserve, we hiked a couple different trails here; they are well marked and maps are located throughout and quite readable. We saw a lot of wildlife here - turtles sunning themselves, a couple deer, and a heron.
Awesome park to take a light hike in the woods. The lake is beautiful with the fall leaves too!
There are nice trails through the woods, along a creek, and along the upper and lower lakes. The hidden creek trail near the restrooms at the lower lake is my favorite.
This former Boy Scout camp has been a Raleigh city park for decades. Its conveniently placed for anyone in Northeast Raleigh. The main dam is under renovation at the moment and the boathouse is closed, but there are still hiking trails, gardens, and picnic shelters. The main hall is beautiful and has an attached catering kitchen for events.
I love parks that have trails that are covered by the trees. Helps a lot on a hot day.
Nice for trails however guests do not leash their dogs and are supposed to
This park is STUNNING at around 6 to 7 pm in the summertime. Beautiful to take pictures in and it has a volleyball court! I look forward to playing volleyball here. This is a new Raleigh favorite for my friends and I.
Favorite place to go for a hike. It isnt overly manicured and they provide fun activities such as group nature walks and bug/bird-watching. Highly recommend if youre a fan of nature. Be careful of possible run-ins with snakes and make sure to bring bug-spray!
Love this place. The secret creek trail is just great for kids. My 5 yr old son and I love to wade down the rocky creek. Plenty of trails for a short hike/run. Great playground. Good shelters. Fishing leaves a bit to be desired, very sparsely populated.
Great place varied landscape and fun hiking would like to come back to try some boulders that looked like they could have been fun to climb
This is one of the first trails I found when I moved to Raleigh. Its still one of my favorites for myself and my dog. Theres plenty of water for dogs to get a drink and the trails are perfect for an easy hike. Bring your camera because you may see deer many times wandering around the woods.
Nice quite place in February. Saw a herd of black tailed deer. Good for trail running.
A nice place to be
Really good park to jog or run. Its big and even has a lake. I love going to this park.
