A great place to discover local artists! The exhibits also change frequently and are often interactive. The staff members are always very helpful and knowledgeable about the exhibits. The museum is never extremely crowded, which allows you to look at your own pace.

Great space for events, showings in excellent downtown Raleigh location. Recently, I participated as a vendor at NC Book Festival Book Fair at CAM. Wish there had been more street side advertising for the event to increase foot traffic to support the authors and publishers at the book fair, but overall a nice experience in an accessible location.

I have attended the exhibits at CAM Raleigh several times a year for a decade now and I must say that, generally speaking, I am not fond of the exhibits or programming. Its important to me to keep up with the trends in the art discipline, and so I make regular trips to museums and galleries in LA, San Francisco, New York, and DC (and abroad). I will still go to the CAM in Raleigh but the layout of the museum and the way things are presented isnt to my taste.

I like this place in part for what offers, the rotating shows, and for where it is: smack in the middle of the warehouse district in downtown Raleigh. We routinely bundle a quick stop to CAM to see their latest thing in conjunction with catching a show somewhere else and grabbing a meal. Take advantage of their military discount- bring your military idea and save a boatload of money If you do, consider donating some of it keep this place alive and thriving.

Another nice place to go on a weekend or weekday afternoon. Usually has a kids center with arts and crafts. Art rotates through like most galleries but is always beautiful and fun to see. However, it is a little small but is sure to grow and become another great arts center

Situated in a nice part of town. Eclectic set up and unusual exhibits one would not expect at a museum and yet totally appropriate dealing with art that is underserved. This visit custom motor bikes. Each one a piece of art that would have been perfectly in place in an Art Deco setting. Highly recommend taking the time to see these bikes even if one is not a rider.

Interesting architecture and beautiful art line the walls, though its a very small museum overall. We went for a free family event and it was awesome. We wandered around after the event and were impressed with the art pieces, but found that theres not much here among the three levels. This is similar to other modern art museums in comparable sized cities, so I guess its just a function of population. The staff were amazing and friendly!

Medium sized place, so expect to make a visit more of a stop rather than the whole point of a trip. Definitely worth seeing for those who enjoy art, but if you’re not much of an artist fan you might feel as if the trip wasn’t worth it. If you visit, keep your mind open and you’ll have a great time! I would absolutely visit again if I was in the area, especially if I only had a little time to spend because I would feel I still had enough time to have a good experience.

My biggest pet peeve with art museums is a lot of space and few exhibits. The CAM Museum takes that to an extreme. Big building and less than a dozen exhibits when I was there. They used up a huge room for one exhibit a basketball court with a bunch of squares as people on the walls. Not only a waste of space but why reduce people to squares? Another exhibit was they gave cameras to homeless people. Only 20 pictures and the results were predictible. Maybe they were trying for social commentary instead of art, but failed there too. Just bad. We were in and out in under ten minutes. CAM get new management that knows how to do an exhibit.

I try to visit the place every first Friday, when the museum is open late (I believe until 10p). They usually have a nice rotation of exhibits, frequently by local artists. I also really enjoy the making station they put up for first Friday. I always take my friends here if they happen to be in town for first Friday, and then cover the galleries nearby.CAM also has a food truck outside on first Fridays, which is a bonus (I dont think they do on other days). Its located in one of my favorite areas of town (Warehouse District), and theres lots of things to do around after the museum.

BRIDES BEWARE!My sister had her wedding reception booked for here and 5 WEEKS before the wedding, they let us know that the artist wont let you have food or drink around the art. The only thing that they offered was to let us use a CLASSROOM SIZED SPACE to serve OVER 150 GUESTS their food. We were guaranteed the entire space in our contract including being able to serve food and drink and only now do they let us know we cant use the space for the reception at all? RIDICULOUS. We have now had to find a new reception space 5 weeks before her wedding. 5 WEEKS!!! And were not the only ones, this art will be there for several months so anyone else who scheduled an event with food is screwed too. If you show case art that you cant have events around DONT RENT OUT THE SPACE FOR EVENTS! This is an outrage and could have potential ruined one of the best days of my sisters life. If we werent as capable and lucky as we were to be able to find another space, this would have been a catastrophe. Im putting this out as a warning to any brides looking for a reception space in hopes that they will NEVER have to deal with this like we have.

The ONLY art on file was the main room that had been decorated by black and white masking tape. The rest of the museum was under renovations. It would have been better to have just closed the museum for the day.
