I like visiting college and university art museums, as youre never really sure what you might encounter in the collections. My alma mater is no exception. So to visit the collection at Vassar was also treat. Its a small collection of of varied works, but they have a little something for nearly everyone.

Small free gallery but houses some impressive works. My faves were Singer-Sargent’s Grindewald watercolor sketch, the Schumer wrapped vermeers, the Church paintings, the Calder pedestal, Gifford’s sketchbook, and the Stella sculpture in the garden.

I highly recommend the current photography exhibit. The number of works on display is manageable in an hour or so and the diversity of photographers is impressive.

We went to gather information for an art class assignment, however werent successful. But we saw other amazing examples of period artifacts, and gallery staff were helpful.

Its a sweet little HV secret. I have made it a short date walking around the neighborhood and then going to look at Vassar Colleges art. There are sculptures and paintings from the 16th century onward.

Who would have thought Poughkeepsie, of all places, would have such a fantastic art museum. Wide array of eras, styles, and arists, including the likes of Cezanne, Picasso, and OKeefe alongside medieval European and ancient Mayan works. Plus, its free! Theres no excuse!

This a quaint museum located on the campus of Vassar College in Poughkeepsie NY. Offers pieces from around the globe some acquired or donated to the school by alumni. Had the pleasure of viewing an exhibit pertaining to the Inuit, an Indian tribe located in Canada. Though a small exhibit (less than 10 pieces), it offers so much insight into Inuit culture. There are new exhibits popping up so if youre in the Mid-Hudson Valley, make this a must visit location!
