Love this place. Ive taken my dogs there for years almost every morning. However..just a warning that there are runners who run in a narrow trail in some places..and usually without masks. Walkers usually considerate and are wearing masks. I wish masks were required or even runners only allowed during certain hours.

It’s become a fairly well-known set of trails taking you thru some nice coastal woodlands. Well-marked trails guide newcomers to some fantastic views. There are some bicyclists that travel the trails as well as some runners. To date, everyone has been polite in our experiences. This can be a popular space on weekends, so if you want better parking I would seek mid-week visits.

I love The Urban Forestry Center. The location is always clean and usually quiet. It is a fantastic place to take a walk. They have tree identification trails where kids may learn which tree is planted by matching the number plaque in front of the tree and answer key. There are chipmunks, butterflies, a myriad of fungi and plants to identify as well as flowers and birds. It is a great place for families to walk, picnic and have a quiet day with family. My daughter and I take folding chairs and our watercolors to paint the landscape. It truly is one of my favorite places. I hesitated before reviewing as I would love to keep this gem to myself!

This is an excellent place to get out into the fresh air. Several trails to walk some in the forest with babbling brooks and interesting sights. If youre a birder there are many different species to capture and hear.

I attended a meeting of the Portsmouth Garden Club at the Urban Forestry Center. While there, I looked at a poster about the largest trees of several species in the United States, some of which were unfamiliar to me, and another poster about what causes leaves to change color in the fall. They were am interesting sidelight to my main reason for being at this facility.
