We had a great experience here. Definitely one of our favorite escape rooms so far! The owner is creative, friendly and we could tell what she loves to do for a living. We did the study and the surgeon and they were both great and fun rooms! Cant wait to be back.
Such a fun time! We went here on Halloween just for something different, and ended up having a fantastic time! The rooms are decorated perfectly for their themes (we did The Surgeon), there are plenty of clues, puzzles, keys, and hints from the Game Master if you get stuck (thanks, GM, you always seemed to know which ones we needed help on). It was a grest time, and we plan on going back and trying every room!
Such a fun adventure for my husband and I and our teenage girls! We loved it and can’t wait to come back to try another room. The mystery was super challenging and engaging!
We had a great time! Really felt like this facility did a great job of enforcing social distancing to make sure their guests stayed safe. The room itself was challenging, but not so much so that it was impossible.
We had a great time here. The room was well thought out and challenging but not ridiculous. Their cleaning procedures and safety made us feel very comfortable.
This was our first ever escape room! The staff was very nice and fun, clean bathrooms
Held a company event here and had a great time. The room was challenging but no so challenging that it would be frustrating. The staff was very friendly and helpful as well. Cant wait to do another room!
This is wonder place with wonderful puzzles. Its challenging but even not able solving the room you will have fun. Highly recommend
Ten of us completed Westower’s Study and we had a great time. The staff was friendly, professional, and accommodating. They do a great job with COVID precautions, and we felt like they did a good job keeping people distanced and safe. The room itself was fun and there was a variety of types of puzzles so everyone had something to do. At times it felt like 10 was too many people, but that is not a reflection on the room at all, it just makes it harder to communicate with each other. But there was plenty of space for all of us and the props were well-done. There was a very tiny glitch, but the game master took care of it right away and it did not affect our gameplay.I would definitely recommend a trip here, and we look forward to returning to try other rooms.
I’ve participated in many escape rooms and unfortunately this was far from being one I enjoyed. The room was cool, the presentation was done well, it was complicated it required lots of thinking and whatnot. The things you’d expect from an escape room experience. However, where the experience was greatly ruined for me and my party was that another party joined in. This has happened before so it wasn’t surprising that this could happen, but there were kids in the other party that slowed down the process of everyone. At about 20 minutes in, we accepted defeat because the pace we were moving to complete the toughest room in this location, was so far from where it needed to be. We tried to include the other party and work together, but they hogged clues, which is fine, but we reserved the room days in advance when no one else had claimed being in it. It definitely seemed like they were looking for a room without another party. It got to a point where the parents started doing their own thing, and my party had to include their daughter. I would’ve gladly paid extra to have secured the room not have someone else join. Maybe that’s something that can be implemented for a better experience for everyone. Like you’re not forced to pay it, but it’ll risk someone else joining. Just a thought. It ended up being awkward and disappointing for I’m sure everyone
Awesome would recommend to anyone very challenging
Perfect for a family game afternoon or with friends or even as a fun date! Our game master was awesome, very friendly and went above and beyond. The room was challenging but oh boy if we had fun! I will def be going back again soon!~A
My husband and I went there on a whim on a Saturday midday. We were lucky enough to get a room to ourselves. We did the Sunrise Killer room, and it was beyond fun!! Javi does such a great job getting those rooms set up in unique and interesting ways! We definitely will be going back! Next time we go, we would love to bring a few more people too!
Escape Rooms: We’ve done all of their rooms now, so will break this down by room and then try to give an average. We first did surgeon (just with 2 people, which was difficult, but made it out alive!). Although a dark room with a lot to do, The Surgeon provides a lot of fun and interesting puzzles and probably my 2nd favorite room there. We did the Roswell Incident with 4 people, and there were a few puzzles that felt like reaches. Overall, the room was fun, but it was difficult to complete (we probably needed another 10-15 minutes with 4 experienced players) with a small number of people. Then, we did the Secret Lab in their Biddeford, ME location – great set design and easy-medium level gameplay (great from 2-5 players). Most recently, Westower’s study, and this was another very large room (we were 3 people, 1 of which was a 6 year old!). We needed a few extra minutes to escape, and we were kind of “meh” about doing this room because the whole study theme is a little outdated, but this was probably the best study-themed room we have done. There were a LOT of puzzles, but it was a real blast!
Its very expensive for 1 hour. The lady confused all of us by telling us there was only the one room to get out of so we took our time and got out and we thought we were done only to find out there was a whole second room and we only left ourselves about 12 minutes so we do not finish the task, which was frustrating. No apologies from the person about the confusion. The Escape room itself was fun but apparently we picked a pretty hard 1 with the lowest percentage of successful completions.
We did a corporate team-building event with ~30 people and the Escape Room team did an amazing job in all areas. They were incredibly quick and responsive to email for availability, quote, and questions. The execution of the activity was flawless; they had one staff member per escape room and they did a great job of splitting us into groups, explaining the process, answering questions, and getting team pictures after the event. Kudos to a well-run organization; would highly recommend the Portsmouth Escape Room.
Had a great time! 2 adults and 1 new teenager - we had a rough start, but finally got the hang of it! With the help of a few extra minutes (and hints) we did it! Thank you for a really great time with our nephew :) Cant wait to do it again!
This was the first escape room Ive ever done, and it was a very good time! My group did the Evil Surgeon themed room, and it was challenging but not infuriating. It was a good team building experience!
This is our second visit and we will be back. The staff are extremely fun and friendly. The two different rooms we have done were both well set up, logical, and a lot of fun.
Fun and engaging puzzles that required some real thought to figure out, but nothing was overly complex and made us feel like we had no hope.
SO much fun! There were tons of clues to figure out. We didnt figure it out but are ready for next time!
Loved our visit - room was challenging and we had a great time. Will definitely come again!
Located in a strip mall, it was a bit hard to find. It was lot fun and I felt safe at all times. We definitely would go back to try other games!
This is an amazing escape room! The staff was friendly, the room (the surgeon) was immersive and super creative! I cant wait to go back.
Our family of 6, ages ranged 14 to 75 yrs. really enjoyed TRYING to solve the puzzle.Unfortunately we ran out of time and wished we were granted a little more time for one of the most difficult of all the puzzles offered.Maybe well have to go back and try to solve it.The young ladies were lovely giving directions and hints on how to go aboutThe Puzzle room. Answered all our questions as it was our 1st time.Thank you, A fun time for all.
Ive played and completed all the current rooms available here! (June 2019). The rooms are incredibly well-designed with varying degrees of difficulty and fun themes! The staff are well trained and do a great job making the experience enjoyable for the groups. Looking forward to the next room!
My husband and I went with two of our children and our cousin, and we all had an amazing time. All the puzzles took thought and made us work together. I think that is what I loved the most! Having teenagers they are normally fighting not working together and this escape room brought them together.
This was a BLAST! It was intense, difficult, fun, funny, fast-paced, challenging. The clues were a mix of very easy to very hard, so we could gain confidence and then really press our own boundaries. Working as a team is a must, and with strangers, its even more fun. This is something that you will want to do over and over. Positively thrilling!
I was pleasantly surprised by the production values at this place. We did a Roswell escape room and the puzzles were well-varied and interesting, with plenty of unexpected touches. We came with a big experienced group and managed to only beat it with 10minutes to spare, meaning it was calibrated just right for us.
We did Westower Study! We failed at it two years ago and we came back! And this time we succeeded with only 34 second left! Whew. We had a blast! This was definitely a difficult room, even knowing some of the clues from the last time we did it. We had a very friendly helps person who gave great clues. Word of advice. Don’t get hung up on clues too long. Hit the button for a hint when really stuck. It’s not worth all the time spent being stuck. Have fun!
My husband and I went on a snowy day and played the Roswell Incident. Although we didnt win, we had a blast on our 11th anniversary! Thank you!
My lady and I went recently. We didnt know what to expect. We got paired with a random family, then it quickly began. Locked in a room with complete strangers, awkwardly trying to feel each other out. Honestly, pretty damn odd at first. It went from that to double high fiving each other when we successfully completed the room! This place will pull you out of your comfort zone quick, but in the best way. Highly suggest giving this place a shot!
Post Valentines Day Couples game night. Eight of us total did the Roswell Room and had a blast. Our 1st ever Escape Room and we just missed completing it in time. That has just encouraged us to try another one (Roswell was listed as the most difficult). The staff was amazing and we cant wait til our next visit.
We recently went to the Portsmouth Escape Room as a stop on a Bachellorette Weekend Trip. There were 5 of us and we booked the entire room the surgeon where up to six people could play. We were unsuccessful at escaping within one hour but it was nonetheless a very very fun experience. We all enjoyed it and we worked so well together to solve the many clues to try and escape.I would participate again in a heartbeat and cant express how fun this was especially when a group of minds can work well together.Everything was explained well and we were also given some helpful clues along the way. The room we were in was very clean and when our time was up they came right in with cleaning supplies to prepare it for a future group. Staff made sure we were safe as well.Bathrooms were nice and the building space itself is large and has all the escape rooms spaced out.I cant wait until my next escape room experience.
We did the Westwood room. It was very difficult at the beginning. The hints are very helpful, do not wait to use them if you get stuck! We missed solving the room by only two steps. Five minutes more and we would have conquered the room! Lots of fun!
This was my fourth escape room. I did the Roswell room. The puzzles were really great! Not to easy and not too hard. Everything was well done and professional. On all of the major thing I am looking for in an escape room, they hit all the major points.I do not think the staff was watching as closely as they should and we solved puzzles quicker than they were ready for. There was one mistake in our rooms set-up that also cost us a few minutes. It was pricey, but worth it for a fun time. I also wish the staff did more of an introduction for players who do not know each other (like an icebreaker) or explanations for first timers (we had in our group).
Excellent time. Very fun and very interesting. Perhaps instead of yelling at people three-quarters of the way through the event about cell phones. Maybe they could use some signage to let paying customers know they dont want you using your cell phone.
Great time... didn’t know what i was in for at first, but always down to challenge my brain and have some fun out with homies..went with one of the hardest rooms (the study) and finished it down to the wire... mad fun, good group... use ya brain, escape the room!
I had a ton of fun here. My boyfriend and I were the only ones in the room due to chance. We played the Sunrise Killer game. The puzzles are challenging but doable and very well put together. We were told we got about 80% of the room done before time was up. Our game master was kind, professional and knowledgeable. Facility itself is clean, safe and easily accessible. We will definitely be back for the other rooms without a doubt!
Weve had a great time every time weve visited the Escape Room. The staff is friendly, the rooms range from pretty easy to fairly hard, and we all felt that the value was decent for what you get.Our only complaint was one time when we had a group of 7 already (more than enough for any room), they put three strangers with our group for some reason. I am aware that all bookings were public by default as stated on their FAQ, but Im not sure allowing 3 people to book the hardest room (which allows up to 10) by themselves on the hope that another group would fill it in is a great idea from a customer satisfaction POV, though it is undoubtedly a good business one. Given that their tag line when you google them is Escape with Friends! this doesnt seem like the best policy. The people we were paired with were nice, but we didnt know them and they us, so we felt like we were always overpowering them as we outnumbered them more than 2 to 1. This detracted from the experience a bit.The other times weve gone it was just us, also a group of 7 in easier rooms (they have a max of 8) and we had an even better time. Maybe steering those smaller groups into rooms they can do themselves with 3, or in other groups of a more similar size so its a more equitable experience would be better from a customer satisfaction standpoint.Overall an enjoyable experience, just Id like to see that one tweak.Edit: I bumped up this review to a 5 after the response from the Escape room. Other businesses should take note; thats how you answer a review that had some critical elements in it. I appreciate the explanation. Ive left in the original piece for context, but Id say I believe them when they tell me it wasnt a strict put more people in a room to make more money scenario, but rather customer choice. Ill buy that. Wish I had a good idea to improve it, but cest la vie. Well just book smaller rooms next time.
Staff was very friendly. Puzzles were good with a mix of challenging and beginner level puzzles
We had a great time, I was of very little use and we waited for 3 other who had booked to show up but they couldnt find the building with a GPS so it is a safe to assume they would have been of very little help finding clues in an escape room. It was definitely worth the money... And just a heads up, if you see me on your team remember, It isnt about escaping, it is about the experience :) I sucked at the escaping part. :) Have an Amazing day. #ChrisCortez603 #RAoK603
Very fun time. Cool rooms, nice staff. Will definitely be coming back to attempt an escape soon.
EDIT = I reached out to this business as they requested and this is not the escape room I visited so I have removed this review. They were very professional when dealing with my stupid mistake! Sorry Portsmouth Escape Room.
TL;DR- Great puzzles and themes- reasonably priced- Staff was very friendlyCame here on back to back weekends for a bachelor party, and then a birthday. This past visit we were the last party for the evening, and we had been close to finishing. Our guide was fun and friendly, he gave us an extra 5 min, and then happily lead us through the last few puzzles! Seems like a great all ages activity
I took my team of 9 employees here and we had an amazing time. This is a great experience for team building for company events. We look forward to doing a different room next time. Thank you!! From the guys at 1800-GOT-JUNK?
Love this activity. Great for team building and family fun.
Was a very fun and challenging experience. Definitely would go again.
We did the Sunrise Serial killer. It was so much fun! Escaped with 2:26 to spare. Love to do it again.
Awesome time. Brought my family there with kids ranging from 12 to 15 and they all enjoyed it. Challenging enough to keep them engaged, but not to the point they ever gave up. Would go there again and do another room. Just make sure you pick the age appropriate room. Nothing very physical, this is mostly a mental challenge and a good one. The staff was friendly and explained things well.
Had a great time here!
Love this place. Its super fun for families and groups of friends and its really fun putting the puzzles together. I recommend this to anyone looking for something fun to do on the seacoast. Two rooms down, Cant wait to do the rest!
Fun outing, a little pricey per person but definitely an experience
What a great experience! A group of us tried the Westowers Study escape room and it was fantastic. Definitely my favorite escape room Ive done yet. It was very creative and fun. We will be going back to try others for sure!
Super fun time for a small group or team. Requires some out of the box thinking, communication, and teamwork.
Youll get a good mental workout at the Portsmouth Escape Room. My team of five people barely completed Westowers Study, the hardest room with the lowest success rate. We all appreciated the challenge presented by the clever puzzles. One puzzle had a slight glitch or design flaw, but all of the others were elegant and well made. Five people is a good minimum if youre feeling confident, but youd do well to bring more for a more casual run through the rooms. Having too many people will hinder communication since each person might not know each piece of info discovered by each other person. The whole experience was smooth, the staff were helpful, and the facility is accommodating. I recommend the Portsmouth Escape Room to any teams who think they have what it takes.
It was my first time in an escape room. It was fun.
Im very fun and challenging staff is very knowledgeable and helpful
Never been there. Keeps popping up. But I hear great things about them.
Great people and the room was an awesome family time.
Has a great time! The room my team did was excellent! I highly recommend checking this place out.
Excellent time and fantastic customer service! Will definitely visit again.
Great fun!We didnt realize we had to return to the first room when finding a key in the second. Some kind of tip that the rooms work together could have been helpful.Friendly staff. Clean environment. Plenty of parking.
Byfar one of the best escape rooms ive been to. Awesome rooms and overall experience.
My wife took 6 of us there for my birthday, our two daughters and their significant others and the two of us. I am not a huge murder mystery fan and not big on the hidden clue type of games, but I have to say this was a blast. We all solved some of the puzzles and managed to solve everything with a few minutes left in the hour allotted. Our guide was helpful and obviously enjoyed working there, and the puzzles, locks, clues and maps were clever and fun to solve. Well definitely go back.
My husband and I took advantage of the recent Easter sale to do back to back rooms. We tackled the Sunrise Killer first, followed immediately by the Roswell Incident. Both rooms had great puzzles, fantastic flow, and a very cohesive story line. As escape game enthusiasts who have done 20+ rooms, we especially appreciated the dots indicating items not used in solving the room. Overall one of the best facilities we have visited worldwide and would highly recommend for new or experienced escapees. Can’t wait to go back and try Westower’s study, and their new Merlin room that opens soon!
Had a great time. The staff was great!
We had an absolute BLAST! We almost made it out! Great couples entertainment.
Great experience. One of the few escape rooms that allow kids (10+) my daughter loved it and helped the team find clues and solve the puzzles. I have been to other escape rooms in manchester and thought that this one was the best of the 3 I have been to- rooms and clues were well designed - challenging but not impossible to solve
Very entertaining, changeling puzzles and a great time with a few friends.
Excellent business. Very helpful with a surprise short notice engagement
Fun and challenging. We did the Roswell Incident room and had a great time. Staff is friendly and helpful.
Great fun, good rooms and friendly, helpful staff!
I am a small business owner here in Portsmouth and our office did the Sunrise Killers room. We didnt solve the mystery! :( BUT are SO excited to come back to try again. Booking was easy and my team loved it. Id recommend it to anyone who is looking for a memorable, challenging and FUN experience.
Really fun and totally worth it!! They messed up the reservations for the birthday party I was with so we just had to do a room that was available, not what was originally planned or picked but it was still great!! Ive been twice and will go again soon!!!
Great escape room! The first one Ive ever been to! Honestly, I didnt know what to expect and I really didnt think I would enjoy it. I thought it would be boring and wasnt sure how it took so many people to get through it. But boy was I wrong! 5 of us went through it an LOVED IT! Great for a date night, or a evening out with a group of friends. Its humbling to see what clues others see and you look right over. DONT HESITATE!!!! GO NOW!!
Went with a group of 10 and had a blast in the Roswell Room. It’s so exciting when you find a clue and break a code. Everyone had at least one shining moment if not more!
Awesome time! We did this as a family activity while my son was home on leave from the military. Great way to spend time with the family! Lots of fun and well worth the price! Highly recommend and easy to get to.
A ton of fun! We went here for my husbands birthday with a group of 8. The puzzles and riddles were a good challenge and there were several steps before we could solve the mystery. Thanks to Ashley for being a great escape room hostess!!
Great experience. A lot of fun. Friendly staff.
A little pricey but really fun to do with family or a group of friends!
Very fun. Something different in a Sunday afternoon
FANTASTIC! This was a gift to all of my kids and their cousins. They came back from this event with hysterical stories about problem solving and group dynamics. They really enjoyed it and want to do it again. This was a great opportunity to have some fun and learn more about each other.
This was our second escape room and first with the Portsmouth Escape Room. It was an absolute blast. The puzzles were varied and unique and a thrill to solve. Sadly, we failed to complete the Sunrise Killer but not for the fault of the designer. At no point did they try to trick or mislead and relied on the strength and quality of the puzzles for the challenge. Hints were always helpful although I kept kicking myself for missing the obvious.
Ive done both rooms now and they were excellent. I cant wait until the new location opens up because I want to play more. The puzzles were tricky but definitely solvable within the time allotted.
We did the detective themed room with just two of us and had an amazing time.
The escape room was a really fun date night! Challenging, but keeps you engaged and so much fun! I wish it was a little bit longer for price but either way its a blast!
Had a good experience and the workers were nice. I should choose an easier room next time.
I loved this escape room, it was big and didnt feel tacky at all -- the people who work there are a lot of fun 100% recommend
We did the the Roswell Room, it was so much fun! Highly recommend!
Really fun concept. Particularly fun with competitive friends.
Our family of 4 had a great time celebrating my birthday at the Escape Room. Our kids ages 10 and 12 solved as many or more clues as us parents! We highly recommend it as a family activity!!! We hope to come back soon!!!
Excellent experience. Must do!
Very cool!
Really fun experience.
We had a great time! Everyone got involved. Interesting puzzles, hard but not impossible.
We had a great time. The staff was super friendly and helpful!!!! Would def. go again. Cant wait to see new rooms.
Would have been a little better if they mentioned the 2nd room in Roswell. We spent a majority of our time in the first room to come across a 2nd room just as hard as the first. Price is also a little high.
Such an awesome way to spend a rainy day! We went with two friends and joined another group to challenge ourselves with some awesome mind exercises in the Westowers Study! It was cool to be with people wed never met and immediately start problem solving with them. We thought we were totally on track, or so we thought. Hadnt used any of our Hints. And then with 16 minutes left in our hour, BAM! a whole new set of riddles popped up to solve and we thought there was no way wed figure it all out in time. But we did! Couldnt believe it. This was like board game meets reality game show. Totally awesome!
