Amazing park close to downtown Portland with a handful of easy to moderate hiking trails. Tons of wildlife can be seen - especially birds - including the resident birds near the wildlife care center. Great way to spend an afternoon if you live in or near Portland and want to get outside. Many of the trails are designated as one way only to promote social distancing and trails that are two way are cleared marked. There are lots of benches and a few covered shelters where you can stop and enjoy the scenery.

My husband and I hiked trails in the Pittock Bird Sanctuary and Collins Sanctuary that are on the Portland Audubon property. There were only a few people on the trails so it was easy to social distance. Most of the trails are one way right now, which really helped since they are quite narrow. It was peaceful even though it is a bit dry and dusty this time of year. A very nice time.

Beautiful peaceful trails abound in this lovely wildlife refuge and ecosystem restoration property. The wildlife rehab center is closed to the public at the moment due to Covid precautions, as are the public restrooms in the visitor center. But the gift shop is now open and there is a porta potty in the Forest Park parking lot, a very short walk from Audobons parking area. Some trail areas are closed but most are just marked as one-way for now to limit contact with other hikers, and there are easy to spot temporary arrow signs. This place is such a treasure, and having it right in the city is incredible. They have wonderful educational programs, diverse plants to view and often excellent birdwatching on clear days.

They were kind courteous it is in a little bit of a tough area you wouldnt really want to bring somebody in a wheelchair out there but it is accessible They are safe around Covid and you need to take extra precaution about having animals in the birds just to respect them and do anything you can to help these people are Heroes 2

Their shop was cool and they accepted this nestling that we can call if we want once its stabilized to see hows its doing. So they were very nice about it and they take good care of animals which we have brought in other animals too that they take very well care of. Its a nice place and if u find a bird and sometimes other animals that arent too young u can bring them here and trust they will be well taken care of.

Amazing place with an overall friendly, positive, and calming atmosphere. The Audoubon Society allows you to view some of the many birds theyve rescued while providing a great place to adventure. Deciding to take a hike you can find a large pond with many Rough-Skinned Newts as well as other wildlife or a structure known as the Witches Castle deeper in the woods. The only possible downside is lack of parking.Overall, incredible experience.

Called prior to coming in with two field mice that we caught in our home. They assured they would help us. We informed them one had a broken leg, and we were told they would euthanize it, which we expected. As we thought that would be the humane thing to do. But, the second, healthy mouse! Euthanized without question. They just took the animal and said nothing. This was TRICKERY. I wasnt even permitted to have the animal back because it has the chance of carrying a disease. The animal was not assessed for the disease, and it was assumed it carried it. Do all mice carry disease? I think not Audubon Society. Like them or not, they are a part of this ecosystem and live all around you. We dont eradicate a species because they have a chance of carrying disease. All animals have potential of carrying disease. You wouldnt euthanize a dog or a cat without question. The same respect should be given towards all animals, regardless of their pecking order in the pet chain. I will never return, bring you another animal, nor will my family set foot on your grounds again. All you proved was that you violated my trust, and I dont take lightly to that.

In the 10 years Ive lived here in Oregon, Ive yet to explore a lot of places such as this one! I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Getting to the Witch House, though, was an great experience, just he careful not to take the incorrect path or you might find yourself lost and coming up on someones property. The views are astounding, the only thing I had terrible with were the steep inclines only because I have walking issues but, if hiking is your thing this would be an easy trail! Beware, since the location is growing in popularity, you might find a significant amount of people flocking to the same destination! Makes for a tighter hike.

My family has been a member here for as long as I can remember. I was instilled a great love for nature and learning how to properly rescue and where to take animals, I learned about habitats, and respecting the natural world around me for the love and interest that I developed. I decided that I wanted to share that with children. I own a local private preschool and kindergarten for the age group 3-6. We have a lot of parent and community volunteers for our program, we are a nature based school and attend educational field trips. I reached out to the Audubon society for a field trip and they told me they will NOT give field trips to early learners. Between the age of 3-6 a humans brain is developing by 80 percent, brains are rapidly growing and learning! Having hands on experiences to learn, be, grow and develop is crucial during this time. Experiences can also create a early love and respect for the world around us and create familiarity, if children are not given these experiences now, how will they learn and be confident in their abilities later without feeling the stress of other developing moments. I was so disappointed that the Audubon society feels they cannot create a small program or learning opportunity for kindergartners. No matter the controlled environment of chaperones, volunteers, supervision, knowing this age group are not babies or toddlers and they do not put things in their mouths, they are ready to LEARN and experience and learn how to handle themselves around nature...Audubon society does not find it important to create learning opportunities for children. I also find people who work here unfriendly and not willing to share, teach or give the public knowledge often of what is going on. I go here to visit and I am ignored every time. I am very disappointed that this is a closed minded place when it comes to helping others learn.
