It seems that whenever theres something that sounds interesting, it is often happening at the Alberta Rose. Whether its a great local band, a fundraising show, or a specialty performance, it tends to show up here. The location cant be beat - lots of wonderful food nearby for pre-show meals, and nice choices for food and drink to be found inside the theater itself. Seating is comfortable, both the seats themselves and the legroom - unusual in an old theater building, so its doubly welcome.I do not live in this part of town, and it seems to me that the Alberta Rose is one of the destinations that most frequently makes a drive across town worthwhile.
I went for a Flamenco Dancing performance. We had to sit on stools in the back since the show was sold out. Venue staff were friendly and accommodating. Its obviously an older theater but seems in good repair.
This is a great place for shows. We have only been here for LiveWire, but the small size of the theatre mean every seat has a view. The Concession stand has a goo selection of all sorts of items to eat and drink including draft beer, wine, and spirits. If I had to complain about anything it would be the seats. Some are a little old and broken down.
Blew an eardrum that hurts four months later still. It was a Beatles cover band and the first song has background noises of an airplane taking off that cycled repeatedly. The mixer had this airplane effect turned up way too loud and it left me dead after the show after sitting right under the speaker that continually screeched out this awful WHOOoOoooooMMM sound that echoed in my ringing ears for days. The Evil Dead Musical always sells out, why not book more shows then? The locale is nice, you will wait in a very long line to order drinks, and there are not enough bathrooms so people are always waiting in a long line trying to hold it in for twenty minutes. The place gets trashed after events and the seats are not very comfortable. There isn’t much parking nearby and hipsters acting entitled is a growing problem for this area. Good venue with music, comedy, and more. Ticket prices are fair, and events will sell out so buy them early to make sure you get them! Great neighborhood theatre!
Alberta Rose Theatre is cozy and intimate with a lot of fun, smart and quirky offerings. The atmosphere is usually festive and communal. We have seen comedy, concerts and special events here - always a treat!
Came for the Beatles Tribute Band concert, stayed for the Absinthe. (Delicious!) Minus one star for the long bathroom lines. Some patrons even left the venue at intermission to find an alternate bathroom to use. Great selection of spirits and several tasty food options. (Pasties!)
Cute independent performing arts venue on Alberta. The venue is small, cozy, and hosts a lot of cool events such as Science on Tap. It is an independent performing arts venue which is pretty neat. Food and drink selection is pretty decent, with several vegan and gluten free options. I would recommend the sweet potato hand pie.
Love this theater. Nice size and we always know what to expect. We even have our own seats.
It is a beautiful older theater. The staff is great; friendly and courteous! I loved the atmosphere. It has a casual, artistic vibe, with some macabre elements. The only set backs are the limited number of restrooms, and the seats are not very forgiving to larger bodies. Of course, they might have had larger seats in other sections, that I didnt see. But, all-in-all it is a great venue.
I love this theater! Been to it twice now to see one of my favorite comedians/political activists. They have a reasonable selection of drinks (beer, wine and mixed), snacks are delicious and help counter the alcohol consumption, the atmosphere is comfortable but intimate. Its one of my favorite places to see a show. Highly recommended!
The theater itself is a small stage, 300-400 seat maybe with 50s era theater seats. There is a bar, and a green room, and its a good venue for spoken word, and musical acts. Its a fun place when Ive been here for shows.
Went to Science on Tap. It was a lot of fun. The venue was good except for people getting up constantly.
Saw the last Waltz here! Great venue! Staff was rad and hope to see more live music there in the not too distant future!
I visited Oregon and was able to attend a show at this location. Historical site all I can say. Very nice venue. Area is awesome.
Saw Tyrone Wells at the Alberta Rose and loved it! This theater is a cozy place with a great atmosphere. Not a bad seat in the house!
A great blues show in a small setting. I combined the show with a visit to a Thai restaurant that is right next store.
Fun place to catch a show while enjoying a drink and hand pie. Love the atmosphere!
What a great show. It was fabulous! Alberta Rose is a wonderful venue.
Don’t buy general admission. It’s really not managed well at all. They let people just save seats and then others can get seats. The theatre should prevent saving seats unless everyone is there. The place is also run down. Disappointed at the experience. Used to be a much better venue.
Accessible, they have local food and drink, and amazing sexy storytelling for Mystery Box Show for Valentines Day.
Science on Tap is a regular series that we attend. Beer, cocktails, wine and food along with great shows!
The venue is nice, could be better, but as an old building it works. The bathroom I used was large, clean, and well stocked. The concessions staff were friendly. My second time here. The volume was high, but the act wanted it that way. Plenty of places to eat in a short walking distance.
We just saw Live wire show. Always love Luke and crew!! We love the Alberta Rose Theatre! Great room! Wonderful staff!
Great sound! They should definitely host more programs there!
This theater is beautiful! Very easy to navigate and small enough that every seat in the house is perfect. Came here for Mystery Box and cant wait to be back.
Always has great shows and a fun atmosphere with a cool vintage theater vibe.Additionally when i need a small accomodation to be able to pump breast milk they were extremely helpful, kind and responsive. I really love this place!
I really enjoy this theatre. White Xmas was wonderful performance.
Great venue...just the right size to make it enjoyable and fun for everyone. Recommend seeing a show at this venue.
We saw the circus and the Nowhere band playing the white album by the Beatles. It was a great show.
Alberta rose theatre is a true sample of portland venues. Built from an old church, the renovated hall supports a funky vibe with evem funkier acts!
Great shows and energy. Bit divey with old seats and sticky spots, but good food (hand pies, cookies) and drinks, and reasonable ticket prices for diverse shows. 400ish seat theater. Usually a long wait for the bathroom and bar due to space constraints (staff are awesome and quick).
Such a special theater! Thank you Joe and crew for giving creativity a place to shine bright. The White Album Christmas show with the Rose City Circus and Nowhere Band last night was wonderful! Amazing music, vocals, and performance art are what keep me coming back. I highly recommend any show at the Alberta Rose.
Charming music venue. Loudon Wainright killed it.
Great venue & loved the Nowhere Band/Circus White album concert
Very nice, cozy theatre but need more snack/food options
We know a band member that play there, fun, great date night.
Small run down theater with great shows.
Great Blues Concert. Outstanding service by everyone. Thanks!
Very cool space. Great bar with friendly service and decent food options - above and beyond your typical “event concessions” for sure. I’ve only seen one show there, but it was great!
Great place with older seats. Maybe some new cushions? Had a great time watching Christopher Neil Young. What an amazing performance
Great venue for all sorts of shows. Music, stories, great drinks and food spots all around.
Very homey feel to the venue. Food and beverages were available and with the cozy space, theres not really a bad spot for seating. I was pleasantly surprised.
Great show and excellent staff. One suggestion is not to serve Lagunitas beer.
I went to a Science On Tap talk here and it was a ton of fun. The speaker was very informative and entertaining. The theater had a very welcoming, laid-back feel and there is a full bar at the back of the theater that patrons can enjoy during the show. I plan to return in the future for more science on tap events and I would definitely recommend them to others.
First time there. Its a very quaint little theater. I would love to come back.
This is one of my favorite places to see shows. I love that they have branched out beyond music to offer storytelling nights, circus/aerial shows, and other variety shows. Theres something about the 350-400 sized audience thats really great too - its the perfect amount of big and little - intimate. You can feel both connected with the performers and the other people in the audience without feeling exposed and without having to sacrifice gorgeous lighting and big sound. And every show Ive seen has had great sound. I dont get to say that about most places. I also dont know when it happened that I started to only like to catch shows where I know that I can sit down, but this space doesnt make me feel any less cool for wanting comfort. I can see really great acts without having to worry about elbow in my back or having someone spill a drink on me. Well. Mostly. Spillage can happen anywhere drinks are sold. And Im really grateful there are snacks and beverages there. I can be uber Portland and drink kombucha with my show because they have that there - plus cookies and other delightful nibbles.
Quant little theater with a wide selection of shows, I love the design of the theater, has some nice savoury hand pies and a ok bar to enjoy also, parking is a little difficult, but has good public transport links close by.
Nice place for either 3 course meal or tapas, good company
Nice seating arrangement. Love the performances here. Smaller venue but great shows.
You will spend a nice evening
Nice small venue. Older building so not a lot of restrooms. Nice bar selection and good prices. The floor is flat so viewing can be a challenge
Great local theater with all kinds of performances from music to performance art. Beer and food to boot.
Cool location with good Indy shows.
I played a great show for the Janus youth fundraiser program and it was a wonderful place to be house manager Ben with very accommodating and Ill be sure to be returning. There are a great artists that come through here
Small, intimate, and a fun crowd. Highly recommend!
Dont get me start on this place. They dont have pizza like their website says. And the sound guy that operates the mixer is horrible at his job.
Funky venue in residential neighborhood so parking is tricky. Its an older building with charm and a reputation for good acts.
Local PDX Community theater! My friend Blue and I attended the REDEFINING ALBERTA performance ~ A great place to meet up with old friends for this unique Show venue about the gentrification of the N/NE PDX Black Community. It was quite humerous hearing the many reminiscent comments of the last time I was here was when we took a school trip!!! Incredible! True, the seats seemed to be the original ones, with creeking from age, and scuff markings on the arm-rests!The stage was a little difficult to view as the seating was not elevated as would be in bleacher-type. There is No assigned seating so I would encourage you to sit in the front rows for a premium view! The Stage lighting and sound was great and our overall experience was delightful fun!
The best shows and the best causes in town!
Love this old building and the Think and Drink events. Well done.
Wonderful place to see special shows
The seats are old, there arent enough bathrooms and the parking is rather limited. The staff are pleasant and the shows are interesting so I keep going back.
This venue always has an outstanding lineup. Check their schedule often. We have been to plenty of shows here and always enjoy it. I love that it is usually all General Admission. The venue is small enough so that there is really not a bad seat, but if you go early, you can get a great seat.
One of the nicer old theaters turned music/entertainment venues in Portland in my opinion. It would get 5 stars except for the fact that it gets hot here in the summer, like bring your own fan level hot and there are only 3 toilets in the entire venue so you better time drinks and intermission carefully.
My first time at this venue. Very comfortable environment, capable of good sound, but that is always up to the sound man. It took several songs for the sound man to dial in a clear sound last night at the Jerry Douglas Band show. Great band, incredible musicianship!Hoping for a better, clearer, balanced sound next time. $50 for Jerry Douglas is OK, $50 for a muddy mix is a deal breaker.
Amazing! Watched the mystery box show, make sure to get the VIP tickets!
Alberta Rose is an easily accessible local venue. I have been to many enjoyable events here. Parking is a bit difficult, but I have always been able to find a place. The last event was an evening with Kwame Alexander, sponsored by the Library Foundation. I t was wonderful. Everyone should read his books.
Had a great time at this theater. Has tons of seating, but a place to stand in the front for those who want that. Bar in the back. Nice set up.
Great venue for a show. Concert would be great, we saw The Girlie Show. Very entertaining. Seats are a bit squeezed in, no leg room. They serve good and drinks for the show.
Nice, fun, intimate setting for a good evening
Beautifully remodeled old theater. Small stage or amazing people perform. Theres a bar that has cocktails and snacks. Theres only two bathrooms. So, the lines get really long in between performances.
Small, intimate, clean theater. Pastries and full bar. Only limitation is the two restrooms. Plan ahead!
A smallish cozy historical theatre, perfect for more intimate concerts and shows. There are a couple of rows of VIP seating which offers slightly more leg room than the very tight rows behind them. There is a full bar and several hot food and dessert options at moderate prices. Two bathrooms with continuous long lines. Parking can be an issue, as this is in a mostly residential area. There are a few decent eating establishments within walking distance as well.
You cannot beat this venue if youre looking for some place small with great Acoustics, terrific beer and wine selection, outstanding small finger food, and terrific staff . I havent been to a show that I didnt enjoy here. But my favorite, I have been going to for many years is the White Album Christmas. If you enjoy the Beatles, you wont want to miss this. However, I advise buying your tickets when they go on sale the 1st of October. The event which now runs seven nights I think is completely sold out.
Adewuate venue. Good sight lines. Old theater so chairs are s bit uncomfortsble for long shows.
I went here for a concert and it was the best Ive ever been to! I love the vibe of the theatre. Its small and quaint and the music was the perfect volume. It definitely needs more than two bathrooms though. Thats all I gotta say...
Great space, I love seeing shows here, though I have to admit theyve all been people talking (like Live Wire Radio) with some music, so I cant attest to a full concerts worth of sound quality. They also have really yummy hand pies. Make sure to get some of the chutney. They also have always had at least one cider, and thats a plus in my book.
I was impressed with the venue. My best time ever. People were friendly and cordial. Service great. Thanks.
Great place but the fake blood was like sugar water
If you enjoy a comfortable and intimate venue for concerts or plays, this is an excellent choice. Not a bad seat in the house. Plenty of drinks, well mixed at the bar, all reasonably priced. Parking was easy enough, so long as you dont mind a 5 minute walk.
Great little place to see some music or a play!
Had great time, wasnt what I expected it was better we lol most of the show. Plan to go to the Red Dress event later this year.
Had a great time at the show nice old theater great price, cocktails and snacks at the bar was a nice touch. Wish the neighboring restaurants were still open after the Theater! Went to great standby La Bonita!
Community theatre at its finest
