About thirty years ago I visited the museum to glean resources about my ancestors, John Philip and Julia Olsen who owned a farm in Orenco from about 1894 to 1920s and other family in Sherwood. Their seven children were born and raised on the farm. This past year, 2019, I finally returned to the museum with my old list, four pages long, to finally make copies of the printed materials. They are now held in one large notebook, 170 pages of precious material. The research staff were very prepared when we arrived and provided great assistance. I left with them information about my ancestors from those areas. Later I returned to the museum with the Oregon chapter members of the Association of Genealogists for an amazing tour of the facility. As a professional genealogist I have researched families in every state and many countries. In research for others I have enjoyed getting to know families of many races and religious beliefs. Being close to the land of my ancestors is always the most significant research that I do.
I had a great time visiting the museum. Despite being a native Oregonian, I had very little knowledge of the Kalapuya prior to visiting the museum and found the exhibits very illuminating. I enjoyed looking at the artifacts the museum had on display, although I wish they were more clearly labeled. All in all, definitely worth a visit. Lovely staff as well.
Fun for Grandpa and the kids too! We liked trying out the quill and ink most. Were planning on coming back for the family mornings every month. There is free parking thats a little hard to spot with the crowded PCC lots; we asked at the museum front desk and they showed us where to find the parking on the side of the museum.
Nice and fun... not very noticeable or promoted... it is free at least on my visit... couple dollars donations always welcome... some history stuff and mini game for kids to win candies... and come.kids crafting stuffs too... free
No parking, old building, and lack of direction makes this museum best left in the past.
The museum has lost their way and are no longer a staple in the community. New direction has taken this once great museum to an all time low. The new location is difficult to find parking and much smaller than the previous Hillsboro location. Hopefully they return to their old ways if being about the community.
Great place to learn about local history!
No parking couldnt get in waste of time.
Moved from Hillsboro without notice and without letting the community members contribute to you staying in the city.
