A great museum, very eclectic, creative approach to collection and artist/ exhibits. A real gem in this very art-oriented city. For a relatively small space there is so much to see, read and reflect upon and celebrate. From the moment you step upon the walkway to enter the gardens you know you’re in a very special place that invites a close, peaceful exploration.
Ancient synogogue, in beautiful, well loved and cared for condition, with original artwork scattered on second floor with touching biographical framed letters and renditions of artisists lives and survival of the Holocaust. Highly recommend, for All, not just Jews.
Wonderful traditional Jewish center from 1921. Fully rehashed and inviting, with its own historical galleries, and artwork in its Museum. A must visit for all Jewish visitors to Portland, and their Christian friends. Still conducts Orthodox, Conservative, and Reformed services. The staff are very knowledgeable and friendly . Go There A Learn something good about your own people or of others
Cozy, comfortable, & caring in an historical house of worship AND museum. Place to come to pray with people who are there for the same reason.
A gem. Beautiful gardens, friendly and knowledgeable staff. Excellent art exhibit, history and a very moving holocaust survivor exhibit.
A wonderful museum (and functional synagogue) with a very warm and outgoing staff. I thoroughly enjoyed (and was very moved) by the current traveling exhibit they have at the museum, Holocaust Heroes: Fierce Females, a unique series of tapestries which is a wonderful tribute to several females who are true heroes, that made a difference both during and after the war. They also have a few plaques detailing personal accounts of several Holocaust survivors. Be sure to read a few of these when you visit. This is a small exhibit but well worth the time to visit, and is free to the public.
Historic with great art.
Very moving collection of stories of Holocaust survivors who settled in the Portland area. My high school-aged son read every one, and it became a topic of discussion throughout our visit.
Went for the first induction of pioneers of our Jewish community!
Great place!
