The owners are kind and willing to assist. The art varies so I check back often.
Lane Gallery claims to be in support of SOCIAL JUSTICE- not at all true. Gila Lane, the gallery owner does not care about Black artists or social justice. She used my art to further her gallerys hip image in the Portland Pearl District. She was very unprofessional, did not honor the contract we both signed and tried to give me 30mins to pick up my artwork because she decided to go on vacation at the last minute. The contract said artists would have 2hrs to pick up our work. This was not the 1st time that she did not honor a contractual agreement, a contract that she herself wrote. I lent my artwork to her gallery for one month and she did not have the decency to honor the time span allotted for me to pick up my work. When I tried to have a conversation with her about how inconvenient and unprofessional it is to rush artists for the sake of her vacation, she said lets not have this conversation- just sign the contract so she could go on vacation. I told her that her entire art show and social justice as a whole is about having hard conversations!! She insisted that she did not want to take ownership of her poor behavior, did not apologize and kept her nose stuck in the air. I will never again show my art here and I hope you too will consider sending a message to her, visiting her gallery for a conversation on accountability or generally not giving your art or time to this gallery if you truly support local marginalized artists.
Anyome who uses social justice only to capitalize from it gets abad review from me. I hope this gallery begins to treat artists with respect and honors the contract (written by the owners) instead of prioritizing a vacation over poc artists. Shame.
Rude and dismissive. Gia Lane is not a nice person.
