Awesome collection of aircraft and space hardware and artifacts. Well thought out displays, very impressive. Knowledgeable guides and volunteers. Very kid friendly. There is way more here than you would guess. Worth the trip.
Came in on a slow Monday afternoon and Greg, I believe his name was, came out to answer any questions we might have. He was very knowledgeable and answered all of our questions. He even showed us videos pertaining to our questions and went above and beyond to make sure our trip was great! Even took our pictures next to the SR-71. Disappointed that we couldnt go into the full motion simulators, but with covid its understandable.
My fiancé and I drove in from Fort Wayne, In for the day and it was wonderful! Gary and Russ shared fascinating things about the aircraft that we wouldn’t have ever know otherwise and really made our experience especially great! All the staff was friendly and welcoming and we enjoyed every minute at the Air Zoo!
What a great family trip destination! This museum has a lot of options to demonstrate the history of flight. It has an indoor Ferris wheel for the kids, a restaurant, and lots and lots of planes. There is a section where they restore planes to give a glimpse of the really hard work it takes to rebuild one of these plane. The museum is adjacent to the airport with convenient transient parking for pilots to fly in and visit the museum.
What a great place to stop and take the kids. Its nice to see the history of aerospace alongside some amazing fighter jets. The NASA naval section was amazing as well, with a vast amount of items to look at. Staff was super friendly and willing to answer any questions you may have. Make sure you visit the flight discovery center as well, it also provides a great view of the local airport.
Fascinating place! I’ve taken my boys in the summer for airplane rides, the tri-motor was very cool as is seeing an SR-71B in person. There’s so much to see and learn and I don’t believe you have to be an aviation buff to enjoy, I’m not. They do have rides inside for children and a very cool gift shop with aviation themed items kids will love., they also have a cafeteria. Allow yourself 2-3 hours.
This is my second visit. The greeter, Dixie, was friendly. Our docent, Dave, was amazingly knowledgeable, and his tour was different, and the info was different, from the first time I was here. It seems each person has their own areas of knowledge and each tour is different. There are many attractions for kids as well as for adults. These include rides and a wall full of simulators. There are two buildings. The second one is quite a ways away from the first and it can fairly easily be overlooked. Catch the electric shuttle between buildings.Dont forget to like reviews and photos you like. This helps the reviewer.
Very nice collection of aircraft, NASA equipment and lots of period memorabilia. The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly.
Wow! This place is amazing my family and I had a wonderful time here. So much to look at and do. We were here for 4 hours and feel like it wasnt long enough to see everything. They have nice rides too.
David was very knowledgeable and was more than happy to explain and teach my son many things about the SR-71!!
Great museum, amazing stories. Need a second and maybe third trip to take it all in.
Amazing experience, very helping and dedicated staff. Must visit anyone interested in history and aviation
It has unique and fascinating exhibits. The staff was friendly. Its unfortunate that some exhibits were closed due to COVID-19. I would reccomend visiting this place.
Such an amazing collection of historic aircraft, especially the SR-71!
Great place for family and kids. Admission includes everything and so many amusement rides in addition to hands on activities. Wright Brothers replica, all aircraft and the mural all interesting. Current exhibit has special weather exhibit which is a lot of fun. Theater offers 3 different shows. Visited on a Sunday and was not busy so kids got to enjoy! 3-4 hour visit was more than enough time. Very clean and friendly staff.
Clean. Helpful staff and fun even for a 2 yr old!
If you are around Kalamazoo this is a must. World-class air museum. View SR71 Blackbird, stand under F1 rocket engine that sent Saturn V5 to the moon ride a ferris wheel indoors. Kids will love the rides and hands on displays including cockpits they can sit in from all different aircraft. There are restorations projects that you can tour and chat with volunteers that are share their first hand information about current projects. See the Hellcat, the plane with a 19 to 1 kill ratio in WWII. Amazing. I also had an excellent grilled cheese and soup. Mmmm. Take the free electric tram from the two buildings and watch a plane land at the Kalamazoo airport. There is also an excellent Guadalcanal exhibit with lots of incredible memorabilia. TONS of information on a million topics, I seem to find something new each time I go.Enjoy..
Good food, reasonably priced, old and new. If you love history their exhibits will not disappoint you. This was a great choice for what was s rainy afternoon and their grilled sandwiches were as fantastic as the deserts. Who wants a peanut butter cup when you can have a dark chocolate chip cookie or cheesecake?
In a nutshell:- Entertainment for all ages- 2 hour minimum, 4 hours better. Aviation/ history fanatics could easily spend a whole day here- Check if guided tours are available, and check out interactive exhibits like the movie theater and virtual reality- There is a restoration center, in addition to main building exhibitsWe were two adults with limited time, so we did not get to see everything. A kind gentleman offered us a tour, which we will definitely take advantage of next time. We were very impressed with what we did have time for, and will definitely be back to see more!Aesthetically, the museum is gorgeous! Every wall surface is painted with beautiful murals. The exhibits are easy to follow and read, and everything is spotlessly clean. You are able to get right up close to all the planes and see them from all angles. You can basically run through the exhibits from the early days of aviation all the way up to modern times, with a heavy emphasis on WW2 (please dont ever change that!). There are a number of detailed exhibits that discuss women and African Americans in aviation also, which was much appreciated! We stopped to see the ten minute movie about the Kalamazoo Gal, and next time hopefully will be able to see the longer film! There are amusement rides for small children, and also what looked like virtual reality or flight simulators. We are so glad we stopped in, even just briefly, and will definitely be back! Thank you to all the kind staff; we look forward to our next visit! Keep up all the great work!
We really enjoyed this as a family! We took our two year old and there was plenty for her to see, a few open cockpits for her to sit in, a special play area for kids, and the rides were wonderful and free!
Its a great piece of history. I love going there because every visit is different.
Great planes of all ages and very informative displays. Not crowded. Worth the trip!
We had the best day of learning about Air& space!Very clean, educationally fun and we will return next visit. Hands on learning for all ages.
So much to see and learn about. Right now they have the Apollo exhibit commemorating 50 years since the lunar landing. Very well done and lots to learn about including early science of space travel.
Awesome place! A lot to see.
So much to see and do that we ran out of time. Enjoyed the food at the cafe. Everything seemed well maintained. The SR-71 is the showstopper, but there are many other favorites as well. Well visit again.
Wonderful place for a short trip with kids . Enjoyed the history behind each exhibit, the rides and interaction with so many senior people working there and guiding
The Innovation Center is a must see! I absolutely enjoyed my visit and highly recommend the place. Especially in February when they have open cockpit month and can get inside the planes. However the Discovery Center is nice but if you only have a couple of hours it can be missed.
Amazing for being my second time being there. I showed my boyfriend who has never been there before, and we had a good time. We totally go there a again.
I come here for the F-14 and the F-1 engine, that alone is cool enough to warrant a 10/10.
The best air museum in west Michigan. It has an SR-71, incredible to see that. It’s really quite big, lots of planes, interactive exhibits, and tons for kids to do.More games and rides and experiences for kids than you’ll have time for. We bought the air zoo membership and have went 4 times so far, still more that I haven’t seen. Very good restaurant and gift store inside.
The Air Zoo museum was a something special my son wanted to do so we took some of his buddies and it was a hit. We went during the week and had a guided tour...just the right amount of information for the age. Whether a family or individual activity, it is well worth it. Plan on a large amount of time as there is plenty to see plus they include the 2ndary location on the other side of the airport. I will go back in a few years with my other son when he is 10-14 yrs old. Highly Recommended.
Great place to wander around for a day and see some awesome planes!...lots of stuff for the younger kids to do if they get bored looking at all the displays...even rides! Be sure to take the tram bus (honestly the BEST ride of the day...trust me!!) to the restoration building and see them working on planes!!!
Awesome for kids of all ages. Very interesting exhibit is with a lot history. Our boys loved the rides as well as a lot of the hands on exhibits. The mural the goes around the inside of the main hall is amazingly detailed. The sr-71 on display is quite unique to see in person. We went on a weekend, but it still wasn’t crazy busy. The staff was very helpful and informative. A must see if you are coming to the area.
Its a great place to spend the whole day with kids. Rides are awesome. Lot to explore and learn. Will be visiting again.
A top notch museum! Both the kid (10 at the time) and the BF were entertained for hours! Its beautifully designed. Lots to look at, great displays, the guide who was with us for the first few moments was very knowledgeable. Though we saw every inch of it I will gladly visit again.
It is a great museum to visit with your kids !
Very disappointed that the membership here says one thing and does another. Partner museums don’t honor the AirZoo membership and customer service was rude! And yes, kids are bored going there. For one time visit is okay but the same thing. Last time visited tides don’t work. Basically you pay and walk around to see the same planes and cheaply made murals.
A place for young ones and young at heart to ponder, to explore, to dream. A wonderful time well spent.
I hosted a small corporate sales meeting at the AirZoo recently. Working with the AirZoo staff on planning was very easy. The event went great. The feedback from our staff, who mostly came in from out-of-state, was tremendous. They were all blown away by the event and venue. They were like kids playing in the flight simulators. They loved those. The price was very reasonable and we included an open bar and catered dinners, dessert and appetizers. Well definitely do that again.
The whole place was awesome! Plan on at least 4 hours to go through everything. I went during the week and the lines for the flight simulators were small.
A great place to visit if youre an aircraft nerd (like myself) or if youre just an average person who doesnt know the difference between a piston engine and a turboprop. If you are the latter then the main campus will be enough for you but for the earlier visiting the east campus is a must, there are 2 aircraft currently being restored there (an SBD Dauntlass and a Grumman F4F Wildcat) and there is even one of the original engines for the Saturn V rocket!
The kids loved all of the planes and information on them. They really loved the displays that were interactive like the plane cockpits they could get in and look around see everything also loved the rides and the simulators. In all it was a wonderful place this is the 3rd time that we have gone in the last 3 years. It seems like each year we seem to see or learn something new!.
Absolutely love spending the day here! Enjoyable day of adventures for young and old.
We had a school field trip here today and it was awesome! The flight simulator was really fun! Id highly recommend for a family fun activity
Nice museum. Great job at social distancing and sanatizing
I wish I could leave more than five stars, this place was absolutely AMAZING! I took my 12 year old nephew whos really into warplanes and my 76 year old mom. We all couldnt stop talking about it. We were there from 9 until 4. The staff was so awesome. Thank you to Russ, Ed and Patrick for answering the 100s of questions. The facility is SPOTLESS! So many exhibits to take in. For an additional fee you can even take a REAL plane ride! Of course, my favorite part was the flight simulator!
A wonderful experience, all exhibits are very detailed. The simulators are a must visit, if late start with simulators and the 4D movie. Excellent amenities, parking, restrooms and souvenir shop.
The museum itself is great- a lot of great exhibitions and fun things to do for my 3 year old son. However, the E-Z build space shuttle model I bought at the gift shop for my son is the worst toy/ model we ever have... very poor design and low quality. We decide to throw it away after 30mins at home... it destroyed our day and cannot believe the museum is selling such low quality stuff.
Fantastic Air Museum! Simply LOVE IT! Beautifully designed and so much to see. You can actually touch many of the planes. Where else can you see the ONLY SR-71b Blackbird in the world? Answer? NOWHERE, they have the only one in existence. What a breathtaking aircraft it is, so huge, but so sleek, it is truly a beast and worthy itself of a visit to the Air Zoo, but dont stop there as there are many incredible aircraft and exhibits to see. Hungry? They make a great burger! Got kids? They have some really great and beautiful air-themed rides for the tykes. The Kalamazoo Air Zoo is a 90 minute drive for me, but well worth the visit!
One of the gems of the Kalamazoo area. Rich in history, focuses on education for all ages, and is fun for all ages! The rides are always a hit here with my kids, and the special events throughout the year are always a treat, especially open cockpit month. The volunteers and staff here are always friendly, helpful and willing to go the extra mile. Dont forget about the 2nd building if youre a first time visitor!Family memberships here are one of the best value packages in the country. The reciprocity agreements locally and with national museums makes special trips and outings with family exceptionally affordable. Weve gone to so many different cities and found something that our Air Zoo membership granted us free admission for.
Well taken care of, knowledgeable staff and lots of aircraft!
We loved our visit. My husband grew up here and he was in shock at how big the place has gotten. Great home schooling day for kid and parents.
Great place to learn about aviation history and look at cool airplanes!
Had a great time there. Definitely a little bit of everything from old and new. Simulators were great. The Guadalcanal exhibit had to have been my favorite being a USMC veteran. The kids loved the rides and hands on experiences.
Lots of airplanes and other things to see. I would recommend getting there early bc we ran out of time looking at everything. We had to skim through the warehouse were they restore stuff bc if time constraints. They have plenty of stuff to see and do including movies and flight simulators.
Do NOT miss! My family and I were absolutely blown away. There are a flight simulators included with the price of admission. There are tons of static displays, but also tons of things that kids can ride & do to keep their interest. Everything from basic Newtonian Physics explanations to electrical engineering introductions for Ages 3+.Active duty and Veterans 50% off Price of admission.
Cub Scout Pack 720 just had a great Rocketry Overnight Lock-In at the Air Zoo! Nathan and Ryan were awesome counselors and sleeping under a SR-71 Blackbird is a great lifelong memory.
I think this is a great museum for all ages. We saw many families there with small children, but my husband and I thoroughly enjoyed it ourselves. There are many rides in the museum plus many interactive exhibits. Unfortunately most of them were not operating when we were there. If they were not, I could not imagine how much time we would have spent here; you can easily spend all day. Plan to give yourself enough time to check out the air plane refurbishment area at the back of the property which is also really neat and you can go in there with your admission wristband.
Outstanding museum with numerous interactive displays. A great place for young and old to learn more about our past science and math. Plus rides like an amusement park.
So glad I drove all the way from Dearborn only to find out Monday is vulnerable population only day. Covid is a joke.
Really cool place, I am pilot and thought this place was awesome to walk around. I enjoyed the 4D movie while my wife and kids did the rides they have. It was nice they had rides to entertain the kids while I walked around and enjoyed the history. Im hoping Ill have time to go back here one day.
Awesome place to take the family for a days trips. After hit up Sweetwater Donuts
Great family friendly place coming from dad of 5 kid ages 2y.o. - 10y.o.! Wish I had more time than the 4 hours I had to spend there.
Incredible museum! Knowledge staff, rare planes. Been twice and cant wait to go back a 3rd time!
Love it!!! Im not huge fan of airplanes, but Is impressed with restoration quality of those classic airplanes. Worth every penny what they charge for admission. They have 3D flight simulators
Staff was incredibly rude to family member who has medical condition, not to mention we were followed around as a staff member cleaned everything we touched as if we had a disease. Will not return.
I love the air museum! It’s a good attraction for all ages. They’re always changing up the exhibits so it’s not just a one time visit!
My favorite museum in Michigan. The SR-71B is awesome.
Very neat place to visit
Recently my husband and I took our 15 year old granddaughter to visit the Restoration Building, and was given an amazing complete tour from Wayne! He took the time to show us various planes - those currently being restored, and those that were completed. We were introduced to other dedicated vets who stopped to explained what they were working on also. Every piece - big or little, was made with the utmost precision.Wayne gave us a very up close and special visit that all of us will remember!Thank you Wayne, and all of you for your service - past and present!Linda & Mike Dunphey
We have a family pass and enjoy the different events plus the rides available. My 8 year old loves coming here!!!
Great place to take kids! Get them ready to inherit these old war birds.
I had been here years ago, and decided to take my father who loves airplanes. I was surprised at how much they have changed this place! There is a lot of cool things for everyone! I personally enjoyed the space exhibit, and hope they continue to expand it. The movie theater was very cool. Seeing the restoration process in the second building was very unique, and I’m glad they’ve made it visible for guests to watch. My dad had a great time talking to Wayne in the restoration building; Wayne gave us a little private tour of the restoration and let us get up close! The addition of the kid activities has been really well done, on par with major museums. My wife and I were on the fence about having kids, but after spending time here I told my wife we need to go for it so we can take them to this cool place! They have indoor carnival-style rides, STEM activities, and much more!Of course, the flight simulators are something to write home about. Buckled in, you can turn in every direction in this very advanced simulator ride. My dad wanted to get in line multiple times, and although we never successfully shot down an enemy plane, we were hooting and hollering the entire time!Great cafe and super friendly staff. We appreciated the shuttle that drives between the two buildings. The one suggestion I will leave is to include more information about the history of the individual aircraft. We knew, for example, what each plane was and when/where it was made, but would like to know that this aircraft was “pulled from the bottom of Lake Michigan, caught in the Battle of Coral Sea,” and so on. Knowing the history of where this plane you are touching has been would be a great addition! If you are someone that loves the sky, history, and learning new things, this is the place for you! My dad reads everything... we were there for about 7 hours and couldn’t get to everything in the museum. A great way to spend a day!
We loved the Air Zoo So much to see and do we will definitely be going back
Flight simulators were a big hit with the kids - and covered in the price of admission. Was awesome to see the SR-71 up close, and the Saturn V rocket motor was also a nice surprise. Overall a great experience for the historically or mechanically inclined.
Great airplane museum for a reasonable price
My 3 1/2yr old granddaughter had a really good time and has asked for a return visit...plan to spend a few hours...there is ALOT to see
We had a lot of fun here. It really is a place for people of all ages! The adults will find the exhibits interesting, and theres plenty of interactive exhibits/activities and rides for kids. I definitely plan to keep coming back!!
So many planes and jets to look at. Plus the have a space exhibit
So fun!!! My 3 yr old LOVED it and didnt want to leave! Appreciated the military discount! We also ate at the cafe upstairs! Very tasty!!
Great Place For Kids. Drove From Chicago And Its Worth It. Definitely Coming Back Soon. Staff Is Very Nice And Helpful
This is a good place to being your kids or just come to see some awesome airplanes. They have a bunch of cool info exhibits. They also have some fun rides for kids that are included in the admission price. Theres a snack shack with reasonable prices. The only thing that disappointed me was the simulators. The animation is quite outdated. But Im sure the kids love it.
Lots planes and info. Just a cool museum
Awesome museum with tons of hands on stuff. Also has a hangar devoted to restoration you can go to.
We love going here! We learn lots and have fun doing it.
Very good. i liked the flight simulators and im claustrophobic. it is a very fun way to learn.
My 5 yr old son and I went. Lots of hands on things for him to do. He loved it.
Fun and my son had tons of fun on the rides and being able to go in the planes
A nice museum with a good variety of aircraft, all in unusually fine condition!
Fantastic for families, singles, or couples. I was pleasantly surprised by the new building, number of aircraft on display, and women pilot exhibit. There is a theater with various films to see when your feet get tired. If I were to go again, I would check this out first and plan my day around it. Its an impressive new facility, but not the easiest to navigate. Use the map because you could easily miss a significant portion. Its a thoughtfully designed facility with benches in each area and restrooms you can easily find. Bonus points for having a no-check coatroom! Leave time to see other other building as well where there are more planes on display and restorations in progress. You can also stand under and look up into an F1 engine. You can walk or drive to the second facility. We lucked out and went on open cockpit day. I suggest planning for that. They are part of two museum reciprocal programs, so our Detroit Institute of Arts card got two of us in free (If you are a resident of Wayne, Oakland, or Macomb counties in Michigan, you can get a DIA card because your tax dollars gave the DIA $23 million).
They did a great job with their collection of planes, plane rides, and educational exhibits.
Being something of an aviation fanatic, this place was like heaven to me. Its easy to spend 4 or 5 hours here, especially considering the great price.
These folks love kids and airplanes! I really enjoyed it too. We spent something like 6 hours here and we we plan to go back next year. Dont miss the area where they restore the planes in a separate building.
There is a ton of things to do at the Air Zoo. We went primarily for the bi-plane ride, which was unfortunately rained out. Since we were there, though, we decided to check out the museum and I am glad that we did. Many aircraft were on display, especially from WW2 era. The space exploration exhibit was nice and gave some insight into what the astronauts went through.
Wow! This is a top notch experience. We drove six hours to visit family near Kalamazoo and visiting the Air Zoo was definitely a highlight of our trip. Unfortunately we only alotted for two hours of time but could have spent an entire day. We will be going back!
Great place to visit if your into history and planes
Wow, that was fun! The little kids enjoyed the rides while the big kid enjoyed seeing all of the planes and reading about them. The gift shop prices were very reasonable compared to what I see most places. There was a ton of helpful staff around, and the extras that youd pay extra for at other places (rides, flight simulators) were all included!!
