This is one of the best Route 66 museums in the state of Illinois. I highly recommend this place. Lots of history and displays that are related to the Route 66 history in the area. Dont miss visiting this place and make sure you buy a glass bottle soda from the old fashioned vending machine.
Wonderful spot, with an amazing team of volunteers to guide you! Old memorabilia of Route 66 and stories. Perfect photo spot too! It’s s a must stop on 66!
You MUST stop here. Both the town and the museum are amazing. You can snap many good pictures behind the museum and you are just steps away from the beautiful town hall.

The museum complex has many facilities and museums. Route 66 Hall of Fame is also here. A variety of materials and exhibits provide plenty of sights. It has a toilet and admission free. The Pontiac Information Center is a great place to get a lot of information.
This little museum was not part of our vacation itinerary but it was worth the stop. The staff was wonderful and very knowledgable. The murals are a fantastic addition to the town. Makes for a quick side trip if you need a break from being in the car.
The memorabilia was truly awesome. Everything was donated and placed by city.
Very informative place, we were able to meet the son of a Purple Heart recipient who fought on the beaches of Normandy. They have uniforms on manikins with pictures of the soldiers who wore them, along with the ribbons they earned.Lots of photos of iconic buildings along Route 66.
Awesome! This van has been used as inspiration for Cars!
Get your kicks on Route 66! Good museum and we got to see the Parade which was awesome. Museum is free and great source of info for people who start their journey to route 66. Dont forget to capture yourself with the historic wall of Route 66.

The stories the staff had were amazing and engaging. So glad we stopped when though it was further from the highway than expected. An experience well take with us forever. Thank you
We were warmly greeted when we walked in, no admission fee but donations are welcome. Very interesting, the war museum is attached and has 100s of uniforms with a biography of the shoulder that wore it. The route 66 side had information and pictures from every Illinois town along the route.
Amazing collection of Rte 66 memorabilia. And the mural walk around this quaint, beautiful town is one of the best stops on the Mother Road! DO IT!

Great muesums and murals for photos. Be sure to go see the swinging bridges while in town
Have plenty of time lots to see. Very unique and interesting.
We did the entire old RT 66 trip in one shot. This was our first RT 66 museum / attraction that we stopped at during our trip. This museum, and the others attached to it, set a benchmark that no other museum / attraction could match! I love to photograph the eccentric, esoteric, eclectic, and there was enough to fascinate me for over an hour in just that one museum alone. We really appreciate the collections, the displays, the narrations, and the effort put into building the spirit of RT 66! I love the display of the hippie van. Great bathroom facilities.
Interesting facts about route 66. free entrance. all staff volunteers and very helpful
I visited the Pontiac, Illinois, Route 66 museum. Its amazing all the things there! I was there with a group of friends. We all saw things we recognized! None of us thought we were that old! The artists painted murals on the outside walls of multiple businesses in Pontiac. Pontiac was having a Farmers Market at the courthouse the Saturday we were there.
Very. Interesting. Impressed with all the history!
Very informative

I love this free museum with the War Museum on top. My Grandfathers uniform is here. I hope they stay open a long time. Would love to buy souvenirs if they had any.
Very nice exhibits. Nice and cool on a hundred degree day.
If youre looking for pieces of Route 66 history from Illinois this is the place to be! It takes a nice amount of time to go through everything, and even with that, Im sure that youll need another visit or two in order to see it all. Free to the public, and only a 90 minute drive south of Chicago!
Very cool. A lot of interesting information and history. Very grateful for the many volunteers we met along our Illinois Route66 trip from Chicago to the Mississippi River. Thank you to all of you!
This place is amazing with lovely people everyone was nice to us . Free admission but bring some cash to make a donation (they have a donation box ).
Nice little museum complex in a quaint town. Worth a visit
Kitschy well maintained cute setup in a very sleepy town
Amazing place. Make the trip to stop in and visit. Give yourself the time to explore
Great place to stop while traveling route 66, I sure got my kicks there!
We really enjoyed stepping back in time. Did Route 66 on our honeymoon and found a brochure, so decided to check it out. Loved it
Must see in Pontiac on historical Route 66!
Friendly & knowledgable - but not annoying or clingy greeting person. Truly impressive displays. Very clean, bright, roomy (except for military museum upstairs which was claustrophobic - but ya cant have both space & stuff). Building was outstanding - they just dont build like that anymore. Gorgeous wood restored to its former glory. (One room with art was a jail cell...)
More stuff than you could ever see in a day. All volunteers are eager to share the stories of everything in the museum.
