There was a Kuhuli loach that in the plant tank, not part of the normal sale tanks, that wasnt intended for sale. (Part of the cleaning crew). My 7yr old loved it and Billy made a huge effort to get it, seriously took 20 min to catch. To be clear, Kuhuli are fast, hard to catch in a big tank with and like to burry them selves in the substrative.Billy went above and beyond and made his day.The store is great and they keep a consistent rotation of stock. I happened to be there two days in a role and what amazed how fast the turn on fish was.They are also great about being able to order things that are bit more rare/exotic.Highly recommend and they make it easy to support local!

I have a 36 gallon fresh water tank and just had Hudson out from Exotic Aquatics to clean my tank and he did a great job! I highly recommend you call them if youre looking for a good tank service company. Hudson was efficient and quickly swapped out about 1/2 the water, he cleaned the gravel, and was in and out in no time. Ill definitely use them every month or so.

Went twice and simply loved it. This is a specialist store they know their stuff and give great advice so I have no more dead fish.. Preston was knowledgeable and very helpful. Now I have a crystal clear aquarium and happy fish especially my mickey mouse fish and guppies.. No more general pet store with half dead fish for me.

Excellent service! They had quite a selection of freshwater fish, including plenty of african cichlids. They offered things I had never yet seen before, such as live macroalgae at an affordable price. Beautifully maintained. Plenty of saltwater fish and corals for sale as well. I purchased eight Johanni cichlids and they acclimated extremely well and are doing great with the other cichlids in the tank.

We went in looking for clown fish. There were several to choose from. Beautiful fish.

I loved this store when we first started our tank. Got use to going to Dallas North Aquarium, but I always thought about this little store and decided to go to them to add a few new fish. Within less than 48 hours one of the fish was dead and they DID replace that one, but literally within 4 days, my whole established tank was GONE! Last night about 11 we noticed one of the other fish we bought from them was bobbing at the top of the water, did a freshwater dip and the fish looked better, but this morning, he was dead. Went to Dallas North and they gave us SulfaPlex to try and save our fish. By the time we got home and did a water change before we put the medication in, by the time we got the medication in the tank, the 2 others we bought from here died. Then one clown just died now and another one is struggling at the bottom of my tank. I can’t see my watchman goby or pistol shrimp, my cardinals are missing, I’m assuming they’re hiding, and our wrasse looks as sick as can be. Don’t ever buy fish from this store. Spent almost $200 and lost more than that in literally FOUR DAYS and still losing. I am SO UPSET!!!!

I went into the store at 12:25 today without a mask as I’m not required to wear one. The gentleman that greeted me immediately informed me that I had to have on a mask. I informed him that I’m not required to use one. He then informed me it’s a store policy and I could not enter. I left the store. I will not discuss my medical issues with anyone and per AMA I’m not required to do so. I’m very disappointed with Exotic Aquatics and will not be back and I will tell everyone that asked or expressed an interest in this store of my experience. Poor customer care.

Super friendly and knowledgeable staff, I overheard one of the staff talking to some customers about the nitrogen cycle, something that no other store Ive been to has done before. They even keep their bettas for sale not in tiny cups! Good selection of plants as well

Love this store. All of the fish here are well taken care of. They thrive very well after bringing them home. The staff is also very helpful, knowledgeable and nice. If you are looking to start the hobby or are looking for great fish, this is where you want to shop in Plano.

I really love it every time I visit these guys. Great selection, pricing and STAFF. I never had any issues whatsoever in returning and getting a fair partial refund. If you are new into the hobby, exotic aquatics would be the way to go!! Their hours are very reasonable. Very knowledgeable and patient staff. I would definitely return, recommend and refer!

I liked this store quite a bit actually. This was my first time visiting and the staff was very attentive and friendly. Some prices for supplies were similar to online prices or lower than in other stores, some were higher but Im unsure if they price match. The overall selection of products was pretty nice in my opinion. They had driftwood, rocks, coral, live plants as well. A few different types of popular substrates and a plethora of chemicals and fertilizers from Seachem. There was a good selection of fish available including some more uncommon and expensive fish. The fish were slightly more expensive than what you would set at a chain pet store but the fish here looked very healthy and were in a better environment, so in my opinion it would be worth. I will definitely be purchasing some things from them in the future.

Just stopped in to check out their live plants. They seem to have a better selection then some other stores. They also look super healthy and the prices seem pretty low. People were nice which is a bonus. They had a super cute boxfish which makes me want to start a saltwater tank one day.

Exotic Aquatics specializes in salt water fish, corals, sea anemones and tanks. They do custom aquarium building at ones home. They also have freshwater fish and a large assortment of supplies, lighting, tanks and SeaChem chemicals. I bought a 10 gallon freshwater tank, some rocks for decoration, CaribSea Eco-Complete substrate and other supplies.Preston, Neil, Billy and Scott have helped me recently. They were all kind, helpful and very knowledgeable. They told me everything I needed to know and answered my questions.

The store is set up nice and they seem to have a large variety of fish and supplies to choose from. I’ll give them that. HOWEVER, the five neon tetras I bought had ick. I’m new to the hobby and I didn’t look closely before purchasing them. I take responsibility for that part. But they shouldn’t have sold them to me. They should know if they have sick fish and they shouldn’t sell sick fish! I had 32 fish/shrimp in my tank. Ick totally took over. Now I have 3 fish that survived. 3. Out of 32. Oh, and did I mention that they told me their return policy on fish is only 24 hours?!

Knowledgeable staff. Customer service is good. Prices are a bit on the higher side but the fish are always clean and healthy which is most important. Corals are healthy but not a big collection.

Just bought my first tank and stand, 75 gallon oceanic. Albeit, 10 years used from the store itself, still in working condition. Came with (not all) but the most expensive parts so I didnt have to buy them separately. Great customer service and answered what questions i had at the time. Also replaced a part that was faulty once we arrived. Best part was the total cost of $75! 10/10 recommend. Thanks again Preston. Ill be back for sure.

I have always loved this store but I asked for some cherry shrimp and assumed they would get what I needed and I ended up with some neo-cardina shrimp that were practically ghost shrimp with a couple tiny red veins. Whoever their cherry supplier is sucks. My shrimp tank are all bright red. It was dark and when I got home I noticed they were very washed out. I ended up putting them in the tank and feeding then Dennerle. Color up flake food, algae tabs and blood worms.. to see if they would color up over a month... same result... blah

I got 5 beautiful plants. All have died in about 4 months but, thats not the problem. We now have a really weird slimy gunk growing in our tank and have had to break down whole tank. I lost beautiful shrimp and fish from this slime I brought home. Yes it was from this store. I have had the aquarium for 10 yrs with no problem now we bought from here and LOST WHOLE TANK!!! Do not buy here. We had to buy a new aquarium because this gunk was in the filters and everything!!

This store was ok it was a long drive for me to get here and I had higher expectations in relation to the name of the business. I love tropical fish store and this one was just ok. I would go back but only if I found my self in the area.

Good selection, clean tanks and healthy fish make for a good aquarium store. Exotic Aquatics has all of the above. The employees were nice and willing to help. Their dry goods were all decently priced and the selection was good. Ill definitely be back to get stuff from here.

My husband and I have been going to exotic aquatics for years now! The staff is incredibly helpful they really really know their stuff. And they always tell you the truth about each fish and your fish tank. I also recommend their tank service.

About 2 weeks ago I purchased fish from this store, which brought ich into my tank, just like Kathryn Gosnell. I noticed spots the day after I bought the fish, and began treatment immediately. When I mentioned this to staff they shrugged me off and said it happens. Luckily I have not lost my 7 year old angelfish, but have lost 6 fish and all my plants dealing with this parasite. I like this store because they carry a good selection of fish, including discus which is what I am building my 75 gallon tank for, but I am weary of purchasing fish here now. I know I didnt bring in the dead ones for credit, but they didnt die until 10 or more days after noticing the parasite, and I was trying to save them. I have had fish tanks for a long time, and have never had this happen before. I was hoping they would be more accommodating since I lost plants and fish to a parasite I brought home from their store. I still plan on visiting this store since they carry the best selection of Seachem products around, which I consider to be the best for managing a tank, but I will be cautious about their fish from now on.

My new favorite fish store! These guys are honest and would rather keep you as a long term customer than make a quick sale and let you buy something you dont need. They really share a passion for the hobby.

We have visited this shop a few times now in the past couple weeks. I purchased my Betta there a couple weeks ago and hes been wonderful. One employee there is pretty helpful and attentive to customers and helped me with my purchase on Saturday of a school of neon tetras. Im really new to aquariums and didnt inspect the fish extremely up close before purchasing- they seemed lively in the tank and I just asked for the amount I want and they were bagged up and I was out the door. I did notice a few dead fish in the tanks this trip but I dont know a lot about this hobby so Im not sure if thats out of the ordinary for a fish shop. I popped the bag of fish in my toddlers carseat and drove them straight home, just 15 min or so. As soon as we set the bag into the tank to float, we noticed a dead fish out of the school. No problem- maybe shock during the trip or maybe overlooked at the shop, who knows. We call over and the same employee who helped me apologized and offered replacement later in the week when they receive more neon tetras. Were happy with that. We slowly introduce the water to the fish and then eventually the fish in the tank. They school cutely for a little while. Maybe a couple hrs and then we really sit down and start enjoying our new tank occupants and notice one to three tiny white granule dots on a couple of the fish. Once researching online, we notice the almost dusty look of ich all over all of these new fish we just put in our new tank that weve been very carefully testing and monitoring. We brought the fish home around 12:45-1pm and noticed the ick after closing hrs so my husband decided to head over the following day for medicine. The clerk on Sunday wasnt apologetic or accommodating and said we needed to bring the fish corpses back in for refunds with a sample of our tank water. What? It was a small school of neon tetra. Fairly cheap in fish price land. Also he didnt care about the ich (or know much about it even?). Or care that a tank of theirs had it or even which tank it was. Just seemed really weird and offputting to not care about this issue, the health of the fish. They did refund our dead tetras by word of mouth, no bodies returned and we used that to purchase ich medication to treat our tank. *Really* disappointed in this experience and this shop and now we have a tank in treatment and two tetras left.

This is a great store i come here all the time for freshwater fish and plants, the staff are helpful too and really cool people to interact with. the only problem i had was when i asked to be put on a list so they could call me when they received a new shipment of dojo loaches and they never called back, they did however tell me when they assumed the shipment would arrive and by luck i was able to get some before they were bought out.

This fish store is really cool and everyone seems really knowledgeable about the fish they sell. the fish seen well cared for.

Im so torn because Ive been here a few times set up account with them and genuinely enjoy this shop so much! Everyone here seem to care for the fishies. Their employees are knowledgeable nice and helpful! Except for one person. He has the most condescending tone toward me and only look at my husband when addressing something. Well heres a twist, my husband just tag along supporting my aquatic hobby. I do all the researches. Still love the shop and recommended, but will avoid that specific employee.

Pretty nice place. Hit it on our tour of 15 fish stores in DFW over a 2 day weekend.Very helpful staff and a nice assortment of stuff.They even had a large bamboo specimen we needed for our 169g.Would be a great LFS if we lived in the area.

Support your LFS. Fish are hit or miss. Coral selection is poor. Supplies are good, salt selection is poor.

Exotic Aquatics is one of the best fish stores in the DFW area. They may not be the biggest but their customer service is top notch. Preston is a great guy to work with along with all of the staff. Preston helped me solve an issue with one of my tanks. Great guy. I have been visiting this store for a few years now. The staff with check in with you multiple times when you visit. They have a great fish selection and they are very healthy and willing to show you the fish are eating. The tanks are clean and well take care of. I have bought a few fish tanks from this store and have been happy with every purchase. I had one delivered and the delivery service was excellent and priced very fair. Exotic Aquatics is a great place to visit.

Such a great selection of fish and supplies, but what I enjoyed the most was listening to Neils years of expertise. I have an issue with many little pest snails. I came in to buy assassin snails and whatever else would get rid of the problem. Rather than trying to sell me a product, he determined I was feeding my fish too much food and I was really feeding the snails which then makes them breed. Yikes! So, now will feed my fish once a day and very little (he also said that their stomachs are only as big as their eyes). Really appreciated all of his advice and will definitely return.

Great staff, very knowledgeable. There tanks are well kept . Havent had any issues with the fish iv bought over the last year iv filled my 210 gallon tank with there fish and recently bought saltwater fish from them for my 40 gallon and no issues. I had one used motor from them that went out but they took care of it and replaced the motor.

Facility and tanks are clean and attractive. Prices are very competitive. Fish stock appears to be very healthy and the staff are knowledgeable and courteous. David was very professional, listened to all of our questions and was able to correctly diagnose the causes of the aquarium water issues we were having. After administering the suggested water treatment, our tank is now set up and looks better than ever. Thank you!

Store smells like hell. We were given bad advice at every turn and the worst part was the constant attempts at upselling. Advice either leads (convienently) to more, or bigger, things than necessary / wanted. Or it was straight off the bat you need all these other /extra unnecessary items. If you know what you need already i suppose its an alright store, maybe.

Great place. I was out running to the grocery store and thought I would stop by to see if this would be a place I want to use in the future the answer is yes. Im about to stock my first 20 gallon and I loved walking in there. I didnt get a close look at their supplies but I did look around at their fish. They have quite a few fresh water and salt water fish that look pretty healthy. I didnt see any dead fish and nothing that looked ill. In fact many of the fish where vibrant in color and active. Several where eating when I went in witch is always a good sign. The prices seem fair for the quality of fish. I cant wait to go back in a week once my tank finishes cycling. I didnt have a chance to talk to the staff but they seemed helpful and where helping another costumer plan what fish would be best for his tank so they seemed very knowledgeable. Excited that there is a good fish store in my area.

One of my favorite LFS. You can tell the quality of tanks, fish, plants, and coral is well worth their prices. Staff is very knowledgeable and always helpful everytime you go in. I have 5 tanks, and all are in great condition after i switched over to going here for supplies and live stock!

My mom and i went in there and it was so clean! each tank had happy fish (except for one big grumpy one haha) and they were quick to answer any questions we had. we were surprised to hear them not talking about the weather, sports or anything BUT the well-being of their fish and how the new ones were coping in their tanks with new fish..it’s obvious everyone working there is incredibly passionate about their jobs :) and they’re cheaper than Petco!!they also had a small pet “hospital” where they kept sick and pregnant fish in separate tanks which i thought was sweet. i definitely recommend this place.

Had everything I needed today. Was helped right away and treated like a person not just someone to get commission off. Love this is my LFS. Thanks again!

We have had outstanding service. The staff has literally spent hours talking to us about buying a salt water tank. They really laid out all we needed to know to make the right decision. Prices have been in line on everything compared to other shops. The owner is very responsive to questions. We could not be happier.

Store has good prices and stock Im new to saltwater and a nervous customer when buying fish or corals salesmen tried to calm me but I felt he was going a little aggressive with it. Still would go back got 2 fish from them. We will see how it goes.

I have been shopping at Exotic Aquatics for almost 10 years and I have yet to encounter another place which such a knowledgeable ad helpful staff. I have been asking advice and getting help here since I set up my first saltwater tank and they have never led me astray. They have a variety of saltwater corals, fish, and inverts that can be used for a variety of tanks and sizes. However, the best part of this store are the employees. They are all helpful, knowledgeable, and friendly. I would recommend Exotic Aquatics to anyone with a marine tank.

This store is great. Displays are well done and employees are friendly, informed, and helpful. The inventory is super with a lot to choose from at reasonable prices. The fish are taken care of well. Wis they had more of a selection but I saw on their Facebook a few days later they got a huge shipment of fish so I probably just came at a bad time for fish. However I wish there were more plants. I think they cater more towards saltwater so it makes sense.

I see other people have had issues with greeting the customer when they are in the store. Let people know your available for questions even if they are just looking around at first. I have had a mixed experience both times I have been in there. The fish I purchased here have been healthy and thriving vs. the ones I purchased at Petco or any other chain store.

The pediatric office I work at purchased their tank from Ramin in 2008 and continue to use his team for the care and cleaning of the tank. We are always told we have the best looking tank. I would tell anyone to go check them out. They are a great bunch of guys!

Not impressed or pleased with the customer service at this store. We were ignored completely during our first visit. 20 minutes of walking around, with only one other customer in the store. No one helped us. The second time, after 10 minutes of the same we sought someone out. The 3rd time, while checking out, there was a pricing discrepancy, and their shelves were clearly labeled wrong. It was not corrected and we were told they would just fix the labels later. 3rd strike for us. Looking for new store to grow our aquariums.

Dont come here for your fish needs. Not only did they not have what my wife was looking for, the staff and customers made snide comments about my wife and looked down upon her solely because she was wearing her motorcycle gear. For the record, Biker Chicks can also be aficionados and knowledgeable about beta fish. Sad!
