Wonderful place! A very educational museum, I really enjoyed it! Really interesting exhibitions, excellent details of the history of Fort Pitt. Highly recommended to visit, my tears were falling down with the sad history of our Native Americans. Objects, paintings, installations everything its very interesting and its affordable and great price.

The Fort Pitt Museum is a quaint experience with a great deal of detail of the early history of Pittsburgh and the Ohio country. The exhibits are thorough in their description of the interactions between Native Americans, British, French, and American Colonials. The underlying economic and political currents are very interesting, especially in regards to land speculation of the Ohio Company and its investors which included George Washington.

Native Americans, French, British, Colonists Long ago the four nations lived in harmony but everything changed when the British attacked. Only the Avatar master of all four elements could stop them. But when the world needed him most he vanished. Years past and me and my brother discovered the new Avatar. A colonist named George Washington. Tho his leadership was great he still had a lot to learn. But i think he can save the world. Excellent place with great information. Highly suggest it! 10/10 will go back!!- Katara probably and me!

This seemed more like an art museum. It tells you about the history which is cool, but there is not many artifacts. Instead it tries to recreate how you would envision the past. Now I do recommended visiting the little house that is infront of it. That is more historically relative and accurate than the history in the museum.

I was surprised about the amount of information here. While the first floor is filled with a bit more interactive information, the second floor has a whole slew of information that Ive never heard about before. If you really want to fully digest the second floor, I recommend coming in on the earlier side. There is a nice outlook in the museum and Id like to come back to the park when the fountain is on. Im sure it would look amazing. While this cant be changed, I wish they would have gone with a rebuild of the fort when designing the layout of point park. I think it would have added to it so much more. It is nice though that Fort Pitt and Heinz History Center are connected. I know if you buy admission at the History Center, you can get half off admission at Fort Pitt.

Smaller but well appointed museuam giving the history of Fort Pitt, with a large diorama depicting the layout of the fort and town of Pittsburgh in 1775. Telephone handsets describe the layout and lights up the area under discussion. There are two floors with artifacts. The darkened, cool interior provided a nice break after exploring Point State Park. Admission is reasonable, under $10, and there are discounts for military and retired military.

Great place for learning about the early history of Pittsburgh. Tells the story of Forts Pitt and Duquesne and has other changing exhibits. When I went it was one about how Virginia at one point tried to claim Pittsburgh ( called Pittsburgh, Virginia). You can walk around Point State Park and see the Fort Pitt Blockhouse and the outline of Fort Duquesne and then tour the museum.

Interesting place to visit. Not too big but you can easily spend 2 hours here to read and see the very interesting history of this place and area. Its not expensive to visit it I believe $ 8.5 I recommend to visit it if you are around there! Its also nice to understand on which ground you are walking if you go for a walk to the point where the fountain currently is located.

I really like this place, but it is an odd museum. There arent a ton of artifacts, necessarily. None of the paintings are originals. Its primarily a great history lesson of the Point State Park area. Certainly a good visit if you are going to the Point already, but not worth a special trip. Plan to go to the Heinz History Center the same day or next so fees can be applied to that entry (you can go to HHC first and get free admission at FPM).

I was really impressed with how much was on display here! The first floor had lots of paintings, models, and displays (especially geared towards children). I thought it was all very cute and made for some nice photos. Upstairs, there was an in-depth account of how important Pittsburghs role was in the American frontier of the 18th century. There were many relevant colonial artifacts on display, which were connected to the important leaders from all sides. There were a couple of really informative short films being shown that gave lots of context for the conflicts being talked about. Overall, I thought the museum did a really good job of presenting a well-rounded view of history by treating the Native American perspective as equal to the British, French, and American.

Bigger than I thought it would be from the outside. The first floor has lots of fun interactive things for kids to do (feel animal pelts at a trading post, try on soliders kit and pose). The large model of the fort really helps to visualize the area. The exhibits upstairs are great, also. The first time I went we planned to spend about two hours there, but I could have easily spent more time.

They do a great job here making the displays interesting and interactive for kids. Really young kids might get bored but older kids will probably love it. They have only one original building remaining, a small outbuilding they call the block house, but they have rebuilt a portion of the wall to give you an idea of what it looked like. And they also have a paved line tracing the outline of both the original French Fort and the later and larger British fort. We spent nearly two hours and still didnt see everything. We will probably come back with the kids.

Its fun to live in a town that has this kind of history. A French Indian War era fort, which still contains the oldest standing building west of the Appalachians. Its not the largest museum by any stretch. I think my wife and I went through in about an hour. You can probably stretch that to two hours, depending on how much you want to read. Its really that kind of museum, which I dont mean in any disparaging way. They have a lot of cool artifacts, including plenty of weapons from the era, which I find fascinating. They lack the kind of large visual displays that many bigger museums have. Sure they have some wax statue, scene style displays, but a lot of what is here is here to read. Im into history and like to learn, but I you should know going in that this is a history buffs museum.

I visited this quaint, unassuming museum on a Sunday morning shortly after it opened and had the entire place to myself.Despite being directly across from the small Fort Pitt Blockhouse - which is privately owned and operated by the Fort Pitt Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution of Allegheny County, Pennsylvania - the Fort Pitt Museum is a part of the Senator John Heinz History Center. When visiting the Fort Pitt Museum the same ticket also entitles the guest to half-price admission to the parent museum which in itself is IMHO second only in Pittsburgh to the Carnegie Museums. As for the Fort Pitt Museum: pay attention to the exterior of the entrance which contains a portion of the original fort.Upon entering the museum itself there is a small gift shop to the left, rest rooms and coat-check to the right. After paying the admission fee, which is well worth the cost, you will be in a small rotunda-like area with a magnificent model of Fort Pitt and The Point. There are six gorgeous inlaid tile murals on the floor surrounding the model, and on the walls around the model, and in the other main area of the ground floor, are some wonderful paintings of the early life of the Pittsburgh settlers and the consequences of battles that enveloped the area. The remaining area of the first floor has a replica of a traders shop, a cannon and armory, a bunk-room, and various other displays. The second floor of the museum, which has more of a museum feel, has a treasure trove of artifacts, artwork, displays, and a movie area with chairs. Youll also get some wonderful views out of the large, angled window overlooking the side of the museum and the Fort Pitt Blockhouse.Allow at least an hour. This museum is well worth the admission cost and your time. And dont forget to tour the blockhouse too.

Nice little museum that gives a good overview of the early history of the area and of The Point. Building exterior is constructed to give a hint of what a section of the wall of Ft. Pitt was once like. Through the exhibits you will learn how the area was of strategic importance in the years when France and England and their various Native American allies were vying for control of the region and its trade routes and how it traded hands over time. Hard to comprehend this urban area as a wilderness outpost but this museum does a good job of helping one visualize that time.
