I feel that this place is wonderful adventure to explore. I love the fact of they family friendly, kids love them & also great place to have live kids entertainment for a couples setting. I specifically love that part. Not only was deemed a national historical land mark of the USA. Oh by the way did you know yhat in 1929 it was church.

The puppet show was great and they took the time to answer questions about how the puppets work. The tour after the show was informative and cool. Lots of history here. Really cool experience.

This was my first experience with adult puppet theater, and I wont return.I am fairly sure that the childrens puppet theater is much better than last nights adult puppet slam! There were eight different acts. I enjoyed two of them, the ones by the professional visiting puppeteer from back east. The rest were either lame, bad, just okay, or much too long. However, the pink kitten and cathead puppets that were the MCs, were incredible. Beautiful old building with some interesting puppet displays. Glad we went once, but wont return.

Today we attended the theater on a field trip. At first I thought I wasnt going to like the show. It was pretty slow going at first I thought (almost like a low budget show) but ended up being pretty cute. The kids really enjoyed it. We broke off into 3 groups for the tour and I kinda felt rushed through everything. I myself after having been there probably wouldnt go again since its such a small venue. Unless they were advertising a specific new show. Its nice to experience at least once though. I also enjoyed the woman who did the introduction on the little piano to get the kids ready for the puppet show. I gave 4 stars instead of 3 because the artistry & talent of the puppeteer was REALLY fascinating to see. The puppeteer we had today was from Poland & has been doing it for a few decades I think. The puppets were really cool too (very detailed) and he made all of them!!! Very interesting!

These guys do a great job with organizing and presenting the shows. My daughter and I have caught almost every show in the last year, and she has fun each time. The special events are also tons of fun for the kids. After the show, shell spend a little time making a puppet at their craft table before well go across the street to the friendship garden to feed the fish and then finish up at the park next door. Being near downtown, there are also a lot of great restaurants and cool shops nearby to check out. It makes for a very fun Saturday afternoon.

If you have very little ones, this place is perfect. There is a section for kids to make their own little puppets, a tiny museum esque section, and carpets for the kids to hang out on during the show. The shows start with sing alongside and play and they ask for engagement throughout the show (call and answer stuff) to keep focus.the kids also get to meet (gently) the puppets at the end. Very cute

This place is awesome! If youre looking for something new and unique to do with your family and friends or even on date night, go to a puppet show! Seriously, its so much fun. Most of the shows are for kids and adults, but they also do Adult Puppet Slams (hello, date night!) where you can enjoy more adult-themed shows and an alcoholic beverage. Its centrally located (its across the street from the Japanese Friendship Garden) had a parking lot.

Puppets! If youre young at heart or have young hearts (kids), you belong here. Ive seen at least 20 shows here with my daughter, (shes 3), the wife as well, and we love it here. Some classic stories and new ones are shown here but always fun to watch. Suggest getting to the place early, sometimes a 100 + school kids show up and could be tough to get some front seats. Most shows can be seen from any seat though. All kids usually seat on the ground anyway. They have a membership, and gift shop, but free bag puppets the kids can make and take. Never a bad idea to catch a show.

Im sad to read reviews of such low ratings. i saw nothing wrong with the building, the set up, the employees, the actors... it was all done nicely and with much talent. we enjoyed going and seeing a puppet show. its not something everyone has access to, so to me, its a treat. my children loved it. we saw the princess, the unicorn and the smelly foot troll. it was a hoot! gwen was awesome! so talented! there was a lot of interaction and i even liked the get your wiggles out! they know kids, they wiggle and that made it fun and set the tone for them. not a bad review from me!

I went here with my kids on a field trip, and despite one nightmare had about puppets from one of those kids, they all loved it. I would suggest instead of attempting to get the wiggles out before the show, that they start having a wiggles intermission. The show is only about an hr long, but everyone was getting restless and antsy at about the 35 min mark.

It become boring for older kids because there is so much technology out there Xbox and other things the preschooler lost interest wanted to move around. But I get it...but who else does.. a place to take stay at home mommys preschooler can maybe become interested for 5mins. Need to step it up guys dont become complacent with what you always fall back on. Your talented resourceful step in to the 2018 find there interests expand. I only wish the best. Your puppeteer was awsome let her expand on that.By the way I was a stay at home mom with twins always looked for outlets to take them too so I could let go of the reins alittle.

Im updating my review to 2.5 stars (instead of 4) and Ill explain why.First of all, its expensive. We watched Cinderella, which was adorable but a bit long and not very interactive with the children. My 2.5yo was sushed for getting excited and saying Thats cinderella! I didnt mind, because those were the rules (be quiet unless the puppets talk to you). The puppet show became a little bored towards the end, so we left. Less than 20 m8nutes of entertainment for the price of going to the movie theater. I went home and gave a 4 star review. However, we recently went to the puppet theater in San Diego, which was WAY cheaper and they constantly encouraged the kids to laugh and interact with the puppets! The play wasnt great, but my kid LOVED every moment and all the kids were laughing the whole time. So after comparing the two puppet theaters, Im really disappointed in the Phoenix puppet theater. Unless it becomes more kid friendly and/or they drop the price, we probably wont be back :( Which is sad, because going there is one of my favorite childhood memories.

I worked on remodeling the building. Even if you hate puppet shows, it is worth seeing the building. You have to know what to look for, but this was built before electrical power was available, so no air conditioning! A heat towers convective action drew in fresh air from under the building, to help cool it. A coal furnace heated it and that same convective action drew the heat into the building from an old coal furnace. When I showed up to work on it, the old 1920s wiring was still there. I was happy to work on such a project. Id rather build a park than a prison any day! Theaters of any kind are an absolute joy, despite the headaches involved. Other buildings I have worked on are The Orpheum & The Hergerger Theaters. This puppet theater is special to me. It is old, and way cool. Going to see what became of it, even more special. Most of the work was done by volunteers, or companies paid employees to work on it and gave the labor away free, as a gift to the city. Some of the shows are good, some awful, but choose you show wisely and while you are there, take a look around the grounds, and see if you can spot that old heat tower, and imagine yourself in Phoenix, before air conditioning. They should frame the original plans too, as they were so artfully done. BY THE WAYIT HAS AC NOW SO NO WORRIES, (unless the power goes out).Cheers!
