Hiked it once. It wasn’t too bad. A little more of a challenge than Camelback for me. The top can get crowded and I wasn’t really able to find a good area to sit and take in the views. Once the parking situation is taken care of I plan to give it another shot. I also forgot my phone so I felt helpless :-0.Update: Second hike completed this month (April). Parking lot still under construction. The constant beeping of the trucks backing up is really annoying. However, the chirping squirrel was awesome. Wasnt crowded at all on the Monday morning I went up. There are a lot of stairs to climb but its not too bad. View from the top is gorgeous with downtown Phx on one side and vast areas of wilderness on the other.

The views from the summit are incredible (5 star), and there is plenty of room for you to stay a while... but the crowds are pretty dense year round, and parking is often non-existent.Youre better off parking somewhere nearby and walking into the park than trying to get a parking spot, unless youre hiking late in the day.The trail itself is moderately challenging, with plenty of large step-ups and a great elevation gain. An average person will need a few breaks on the way up!

Wow! What a rewarding hike. It is challenging but most skill levels should be able to reach the top. Bring good shoes and plenty of water. Bring a backpack (free up hands) as you will need to do a little rock scrambling towards the top but its not too difficult. Very fun. I highly recommend.

This is a great exhilarating hike in the Phoenix preserve. Parking is definitely a challenge, at least on weekends and holidays. There are a lot of people on this trail and they can sometimes get a little bit too busy for our liking. However, it is a beautiful hike with great views from the top. You really do have a 360° view of the entire area. It was a bit cold and windy when we were at the top, and we prefer the south side of the mountain so we can get sun. All depends on the time or year you go and what you were looking for.

I have lived in Phoenix my entire life and have never really given much thought about the Phoenix Mountains Preserve. Well, that has changed! I hiked to Piestewa Peak, and wow, was it beautiful! It was also a very good workout! I cant believe the amount of hiking that is available in the preserve right in the middle of Phoenix! I definitely recommend checking out the assortment of trails the preserve offers. It is pretty large, so if you need help finding preserve amenities like drinking fountains, restrooms, ramadas, etc., the app, Avem, is very helpful!

Popular hike! Took me 1.5 hr round trip. Went fast but took plenty of photo breaks. Recommend sunset. The trail is a constant up hill, man-made steps in some parts, especially the beginning. This is my first serious hike and I think Ive been bitten by the hiking bug. Perfect level of difficulty for a 44 year old guy who is in fair (though not good) shape. It was as challenging as it could possibly be without being impossible. Id be back but for the fact that I have so many other trails to hike. (Next stop: Echo Canyon! Will review!)Incidentally, if I were an Indian Id be thinking, If they want to honor us so badly, why dont they start abiding by by some of those broken treaties instead of making meaningless gestures that dont cost them anything like changing the name of landmarks.

One of my favorite places to hike at 5 in the morning! Foot traffic can be a little busy, but most people are usually considerate of one another and it flows really well. The views are spectacular, and watching the sunrise on the peak is the best way to start the day!*And for the love of the planet, please don’t litter and leave your trash scattered.*There’s also three guys in particular that really need to wear deodorant. You know it’s bad when your friend goes on the same hike as you (separately) and you both describe the same stinky people.

Huge tall mountain based in Phoenix, also known as Squaw Peak. The trails are very craggy and rocky, and in my opinion, I would classify them as advanced. It took me about 2 hours just to get up to the top. The last bit was a scramble over a saddle to reach the peak. From the peak point, I could see other mountains in the distance. Honestly however, not too much tranquility. Lot of people coming up and down...

We have visited The Peak many times and everytime we have a good hike. A few things that I recommend are that you be sure to have an ample supply of water on hand. Preferably a rule of thumb is for every hour you plan to hike have 16 ounces of water for each hour you plan to be there. Also, IF you are planning on visiting/hiking the Peak for an Exceptional Sunset Hike, be sure to have a flashlight with you. Many times we have done this hike at Sunset and we always encounter someone who doesnt think about, after the Sun sets then there is NO LIGHT!!! Just trying to enlighten you of this event.

Great mountain trail. The trail has a beautiful scenery overlooking Phoenix, Scottsdale and Tempe. Although there are areas where you can easily fall off it’s a great exhilarating trail. I would recommend that kids under the age of 12 be accompanied by adults simply because of the high altitude and steep climbs. It’s a great mountain!!

Good if you want a work out instead of a hike. If you’re going at night, taking a flashlight is helpful, taking some water wouldn’t be a bad idea either. Making it to the top, unless you’re used to it, is medium to hard. The top is almost a straight climb but, the views from the top make it worthwhile. Along the top theres also lots of pebbles on the rocks making them specially slippery. Going up alone, is not recommended, having someone with you who can get help or help you down if you are injured make a huge difference. I also saw lots of lizards and at night, near the top, you can hear bats all around you.

It would be fine for a big dog too. I love the views. This mountain has many hikes from many sides and this one is one of my favorite. Ive hiked here for many years, the main popular trail is slightly challenging for new comers but once youve made it to the top, the view is beautiful and breath taking. You can see all of Phoenix. Other small trails are easy but still fun, you can take your dogs up certain trails only. There is bathrooms, water drinking fountains and specific locations for grill outs. Definitely a fun adventurous outing. Arizona is a desert so preferably use hiking boots or thick sole shoes, cactus prickles and thorns sometimes find themselves into your foot if soles are thin. Take plenty of water. Hiking at night requires headlamps and preferably strong modern LEDS, it gets extremely dark and you will sometimes encounter submissive wildlife such as rattlesnakes, screech owls, coyotes, jackrabbits, cottontail rabbits, ground squirrels and foxes. Just grab a small backpack or waist pouch, hat, water, and get going!

There’s construction going on so plan on adding almost a xtra mile on top of 2.40 miles to the top & back & 1200’ elevation gain. A great workout, i used to do this at least 5 times a year for 20 years. It can get extremely packed on weekends, with parking being a pain as well. Been a minute since i did this & def got some humble pie today but still a great hike in honor of a special lady. Always keep Lori Piestewa, a Hopi warrior killed in Iraq war & her family in your thoughts while doing this. It is disrespectful to call a native woman a squaw, which this peak used to be named.

This is a tough little climb. That’s coming from someone who lives in Colorado and does 14ers. It’s a hiking trail turned into some stairs by a little concrete in areas. It’s kinda like doing a combination of Barr Trail and the Manitou Incline. Stairs. Lots and lots of stairs. Kids can do it and elderly can do it but it takes time and some patience. My Apple Watch gave me a 171 bpm as I jumped up a few steps. We went on a Friday afternoon and it was packed. Seriously packed. No ones fault but mine. The lack of a star is only because there is concrete in areas and that kinda makes me sad. It would be almost easier if it were the natural soil and rocks. But I’m not an engineer so there’s that. Climb it and enjoy the view. ️

At the base of the climb, theres a sign noting extremely difficult. Having not done this before, Id say the signage was correct. For us, the climb up and down took about 2 1/2 hours, including the time spent at the top marveling in the view. Parts of the trail are not too difficult, but there are big expanses where it is, made worse by not really knowing where the end is until you get there. Theres a decent amount of parking available, but still best to get here early in the day before it gets real hot. This was really, really difficult, but really, really worth it when completed. Will remember this for a long time.

As others have mentioned as you climb you are much closer to the edge as you climb them what one might expect. And it was an adjustment to my body with the elevation. Although in front of me you were young children 8 years old or so that were climbing with absolutely no problem. If your not physically conditioned or dont hike very often I would caution you on this trail especially with the heat coming out. Its essentially a short hike, does not have crazy geographical changes but its practically just climbing stairs the entire way to the top. There was a lot of people along the trail who you could tell were very physically in shape, so unless thats you, dont expect a brisk walk to the top.I did Echo Canyon a few days prior to this, and I felt this trail was more difficult. However the heat might of been a factor, so Im going to try this earlier in the day next time. Also know there is limited parking at the bottom, and construction going on at the time of this review. I dont think you need hiking shoes for this but does not hurt. I would recommend bringing 2 liters of water especially if your doing this when it gets hot. There is no fee to get in, does get busy even during week days past 8am.
