Great Venue For A Friends Philly Film Debut! It was the 2019 Philadelphia Film Festival. Good screen, sound system. Convenient location. It was the theater down the ramp. Only downside? The inimitable aroma of urine on a rainy day! But you live in a city. Whaddaya want!
I love this theatre. Very convenient, easy parking, easy to find, great films, large foyer, and comfortable seating. Saw Portrait of a Lady on Fire for the Philadelphia Film Festival. What a stunning film A+
Kinda run down theatre needs some renovating. it took me 3 tries to find the entrance it was pretty confusing. Food was pretty basic and too expensive. Staff was very nice and informative. The auditorium i was in was pretty spacious for an indie theatre i was surprised and i was satisfied the sound. All in all ok staff is great. Concession stand and interior all together needs work tho
I love old theatres! The seats were pretty comfortable, but did not like the old stale popcorn. All the Ritz have real butter and good popcorn normally, but this day, they seemed to short staffed and the popcorn was horrible. The entrance is very confusing and it took us a long time figuring out where the entrance was.
Comfortable theater with larger than expected screens and movies beyond the mainstream.
Very nice theater. First time here. Really enjoyed the show too Waldo on Weed
Gone here for years love the place love the architecture glad its still around.
Was here twice the past few weeks to view advance screenings. A nice little theater in the middle of Old City. Parking garage always has plenty of space. Remember to see a concession attendant and ask for parking validation to get a discount. The popcorn was excellent. The theater is also right around the corner from some great bars! Tonight specifically we went to Buffalo Billiards for happy hour and they had $3 draft beer and 1/2 off apps. I will definitely be back to thos theater, but more than likely itll only be when I have more advance screening tickets.
Usually good selection of movies but a shabby theater. No one will care if you sneak a six pack in though.
Well-kept place for a movie date. Parking right next door - very convenient. Reduced rate available for movie goers. Parking garage is well lit. Attendant on duty in case of problem exiting garage. Concession stand in theater is small but adequate.
Nice venue. Great play the Actor Craig Anthony
Amazing old school cinema, they show different interesting movies Everytime and the atmosphere inside is melancholic to every cinephile.
One of the wonderful old fashioned movie houses. Real popcorn in a paper bag, Italian sodas, and independent movies with real plots. BTW I loved the movie Farewell.
Good mix of first run and art house movies. Friendly staff. Reasonable prices that support a classic theater experience.
Nice small theater, top spot for midnight release
A great place to catch a movie. The theatre is nice, basically clean, quiet. They have an amazing assortment of rare films here. I really enjoyed going here, in this case I went by myself and it worked out great. I would recommend the place to anyone that wants an interesting movie at a unique venue. The prices arent exorbitant either.
Cool venue, comfortable chairs, the right size for an intimate movie.
Nice place to see films. Today there was a problem with the projectionist and we had to move to the other theater. Everything went smoothly afterwards.
Local indie theater showing non-mainstream theater. The theaters are well kept and the staff is very professional
The entrance ways were well lighted. The theatre was clean.
Excellent film selection, serious film-lover audiences, convenient location
Enjoyed Peanut Butter Falcon - great movie. Unfortunately, parking cost more than the movie ticket.
Always the best in alternative filmsYou cant make a bad choiceClean spaces and bathroomsConcessions as per usual are overpriced
Eclectic films on the waterfront. All the charm of an indie theater with more seating. Sure its not the cleanest or the best maintained theater, but its easy to overlook, and honestly who needs the spotless sterility of a giant chain blockbuster theater?? Ive seen some of my favorite films here. The projectionists know what theyre doing, and the sound mixing is always good. Make sure to arrive well before your movie starts; it may show indie films, but is always busy. Glad to live in a place that appreciates good movies. Also, I love how theaters always have enough bathroom capacity to handle the rush after a screening ends. Thats just good planning.
This theater is due for a bit of updating, but I have no complaints about the films they screen there.
Landmark is the current owner and sometimes I miss the actaul Philly connection but still one of the best theaters to see actual art in film making in this city. Custom made sodas are a big favorite of mine, sorry no free refills on these but one can dream. Not your just big chain food fare. Would you like tea and a scone with your movie why yes, please and thank you!
Cute theater! Very confusing to get to as there are two locations. I was annoyed as I went to the wrong location. I asked the person who was taking tickets of movie goers. I asked him if I was at the right theater and if my movie (Beale St could talk) was showing. He completely ignored me ( RUDE!). Was not a fan. I did find out from someone else at the theater...the ticket attendant I believe....That little experience soured me a bit....
Nice theater that plays smaller release films
Excellent. Saw an AARP movie with my sister. It was a nice evening.
I loved this experience not crowded and great entertainment
Shows the best independent and international films. Great service too.
First time visiting this theater. Nice and clean. Some of the chairs are a little squeaky but overall enjoyable experience. I like its proximity to Penns Landing as well so we could walk along river after the movie.
Excellent theater with 2 large screens, stadium seating, plenty of independent and international films, and excellent discount on Wednesdays. Good muffins and coffee, too.
All of the Ritz theatres are really well run. The midnight showings are a fun thing.
Good facilities. Nice snack bar and larger screen than what I expected. Its a bit hard to find as it is in the back of the parking garage.
Not placeId go back if it wasnt closing soon
Nice, comfortable theater, but surrounding parking is expensive
Good selection of films .
The service was excellent. There was played on a harp. Ambiance was fabulous.
Great venue! Just caught advance screening of Beale St. .... movie way overrated (itss ok to say white people)/ but Regina King is simply REGINA DA KING, kudos (her screen time heading over to Puerto Rico where the best moments of the movie for myself).Landmark Ritz is just always a great experience as far as movies theaters go in the city. Clean, quaint but still low key plush too! Thanks for the Christmas Eve showing, made the end of this holiday weekend even better!
Great movie. Unique location. Ok seats but worth it.
Super cute theater. I honestly had no idea that it was there. I went to go see a film and was oddly surprised to find it. They do validate parking in the lot attached! Be sure to ask the concessions for the validation!
A great, large movie theater with only two large screens. Very selective features shown. Great for cinephiles.
Older theater so the seats arent the most comfortable, but the place does have a nice air of nostalgia and the people who work here are very nice. Limited snack bar has popcorn, candy, coffee and some packaged baked goods. They show a great selection of the small indie films that only get limited distribution.
The movie is clean and quiet. I love it!
The seating area has sufficient space to walk past the seated customers w/o stepping on their toes. Their popcorn is fresh and they will layer the butter for you. They ask you how you want it. They also provide a card for parking after 12 pm that will save you money for parking at Ritz East parking lot.
Its a great small theatre. However, every other theater that I have been to has arm rests that will lift up between two seats and that is not the case here. That is the only problem in the actual theater. Otherwise the screens were large and the video and sound quality was great. The snacks were more expensive than I am used to and were very limited. I would skip out on the butter on top of popcorn. It had a generally weird taste and smell and my girlfriend and I could not finish it.
Great movie, snack and beverage selection (including teas). Always have a great experience and enjoy talking with the employees. They discount parking which comes in handy if you plan on grabbing dinner beforehand.
Always a good place to see an indie flim never disappoints
Clean movie on time great seating, movie watched boy erased very good movie.
Just a little outdated, staff show professionalism, place was clean. It serves its purpose.
Great theater! Comfortable and good films. Especially a bargain on Wednesdays when tickets are only $7 and on-street parking is free.UPDATE: No more free on-street parking on Wednesdays.
Lots of legroom, nice concessions with some off the beaten path options. Very relaxing theaters for indie and arthouse films. A great place to catch Oscar nominated films.
Very beautiful place for meetings and entertaining.
Great for alternative films. Parking not bad in this area. Places to eat near by.
Quaint movie theater. Perfect for catching latest independent movies
Great place and great movies
Love our Ritz theaters! Intelligent, current movies, great staff, comfortable seating. And conveniently located in our neighborhood.
A classic theater with great, friendly staff always.
Quiet theater, not alot of people for a Friday night.
Creepy but cool :)
Great staff and always interesting films playing.
Can be a little difficult to figure out where the entrance is, but once inside is nice.
This theatre is near my daughters home in Philadelphia (Olde City, the historical area) and is like an old-fashioned, small movie theater. Friendly, comfortable and intimate.
Very spacious theater and clean but was a young man that worked at the concession stand that is very ignorant once i arrived line was long so i stayed to the side so once he came in from his cigarette break he says there is other places to stand dont block the door and it was the way he said it but we were out of the way of the door but line was long and if u move up it would seem like u was trying to cut the line so i dont think he would want that confrontation so we all swayed the line a bit so we were more further from the door but anyone else that came in would end up right back at the door then i order my food he non chalant about it and i notice its him he tells me the price and i hand him my card he takes it like he upset and dont wanna do his job i think they should do something about this employee i wish i knew his name but i didnt get my receipt now that i thought about it i signed one but never got the 2nd sheet but otherwise ol establishment
Nice theater, well maintained.
Good theater, great concessions, friendly staff
Cozy and comfortable theater. Saw a nice movie and had a good time with my S.O. here.
Love the old school feel of these theaters. They show interesting and smart films, and the concessions stand is unusually good.
The Ritz theaters are wonderful. They remind me of how the movie experience used to be. Now. By this I dont mean uncomfortable seats and small screens. I mean comfy seats. Not recliners, but ones that rock back. I mean perfect size screens. Not imax, but come one. You dont need imax.Oklpx.
Employees are always friendly and helpful... I didnt see all the prices but for a large soda with free refill was only $5.25 taxes included
Just love this place, and its sisters. Great movies, good staff. Try the fancy Italian sodas.
AARP always have free movies for grown ups at this movie
Conveniently located in old city. Comfortable seats.
Great spot for foreign and independent films
Great location and atmosphere
Happy to have this little theater nearby.
The best popcorn Ive ever had.
Typical multiscreen movie theater.
This is the best movie theater in Philadelphia! Two super big screens playing the great selection of films you can only find at Ritz Theaters.
Kagillionaire Mark Cubans Little Theater Is Alright With MeI have gone to the Ritz East a few hundred times and it is always my base theater whenever I volunteered at the Philadelphia Film Festival. It is a clean, boutique theater with only two large screening rooms. It is old school quality, so no super duper tech projector for 3-D viewing of movies. Nor does it have fifty surround sound speakers in each room to blow the skin off of your face. Though the theaters sound system is definitely adequate, with large screens for clear images in both of the screening rooms. The seats are well maintained and comfortable, but are not the lean back higher end seats you find in the mega screen theater chains these days. The staff is always accommodating. Another reviewer commented that the concession stand choices are limited. Well yes and no. No they do not serve pizza, chicken wings, cheese sticks with marinara sauce, french fries, etc. However, besides the common candy fare, they do serve popcorn with REAL BUTTER (try to find real butter on your popcorn at the big chain theaters, good luck), coffee, an assortment of quality teas (lemon ginger is my favorite), English scones, muffins (sometimes), regular and Italian sodas (less carbonated), juices, iced tea, bottled water and Haagen-Dazs chocolate covered ice cream popsicles. This works for me. Seems they only serve Nathans hot dogs during the Philadelphia Film Festival in mid through late October each year. Dang. The main attraction for me are the films. Films from the US and across the world, most of which will not be available to see at the large mega screen theater chains. A bunch tends to come from the UK. Some are in in their foreign language, with English subtitles. We like many of the foreign movies we have seen, especially Asian crime and action dramas. The action scenes are off the hook good and the stories are usually solid also. You just have to get used to the super fast reading required to keep up with Chinese or Korean speech. Whew. European language films are much easier to keep up with. Now and again a mainstream film shows there. So all in all, I am a happy camper at the Ritz East.Trivia: Billionaire and Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban owns all of the Ritz Theaters under his Landmark Theaters brand.Tip: Convenient parking on the street can be a beast and you may have to park in the garage that the Ritz East is nestled under. The parking fee is a buzz kill at around $21.00. Ouch. Fortunately, when inside of the Ritz, ask an attendant for a parking voucher. Back in the garage to pay at the machine, first enter the garage ticket and let it tabulate the price. Then put the discount voucher inside and it will recalculate the price to $10.00 before spitting the exit ticket out to you...after you have paid of course.
Parking close by. Nice seats. Good selection of movies
Grear films here, and good popcorn too!
I enjoy the eclectic movie selections that are shown. My only gripe is that there really are no visible signs identifying the theater.
Quaint and comfortable, fond memories going there for over a decade
Nice smaller theatre for those movies that arent quite indie but arent big budget either.
I mean its the ritz. its going to be incredible. although because of the way i dress and my friends, even though we had the arlington suite. we were greeted with confusion everytime we walked in. what are you doing here we got asked.. its very biased. i had a hotel worker roll her eyes at me cause we were saying different words with the same meanings. just rude
Great theatre loved the movie I saw which was call me by your name
Intimate and comfortable for peaceful movie watching
Cozy theater. Very clean.
Another of the three Ritz theaters in downtown Philadelphia. This one runs more popular films since the two theaters each have huge seating capacities
Love going for the free screenings
Clean, good snacks, movies vary. Nice and quiet.
Nice theater with pretty good matinee prices and a surprisingly decent selection of hot teas.
