With one week left before the big overhaul, face-lift, make over, or whatever you want to call it, I felt it my duty to play this course. Cobbs Creek is like a classic automobile left to rust and rot in your uncles garage. Back in the day she was a great hot-rod head turner, but after decades of neglect and disrepair she is just an old relic of the past. But you cant pass up a chance to ride in a classic car even if it needs a new paint job and interior.Yes, I know the course is in terrible condition, pretty much every review will tell you that. I have played much worse courses by the way...it isnt that bad. At this point you dont play Cobbs Creek for the perfect greens and well manicured fairways. You play Cobbs Creek for the layout, the history, and the knowledge that you are walking on the very same footsteps as many a golf and Philadelphia Legend...and it is PUBLIC!!In all honesty, I didnt think the conditions were as bad as the reviews made it out to be. Yes, the third green is finished, and some of the fairways on the front arent really fairways but extended roughs. But the front 9 layout is tremendous and when the course is revamped it will be a masterpiece of golf architecture once again. Creeks run in, around and even through the front 9. The fairway on the fifth is literally divided right down the middle by a creek. The front nine is a short labyrinth of golf, woods, and streams. It is a short nine and I am curious how, or if, they stretch this out for the modern game. The back nine is a glorious, scenic, hilly affair taking you to the top of the ridge and giving you wonderful views. You have to contend with the contours of the terrain while doing your best to hit small greens. The back is also much longer including a straight but challenging 600 plus yard par 5, and three 430 plus yard par fours from the tips.Im also curious if they reconfigure the greens. The greens are relatively flat but very with incredibly deceiving slopes which make even short putts somewhat treacherous. Almost all the greens are very small relative to most golf courses Ive played making this a shot makers course, not a blaster course.Unfortunately if you are reading this the course is likely closed until 2023. But be patient and get on the tee time list now, because when this revamp is finished this refurbished car will the best classic car in the car show.
Great spot to play gulf, little on the harder side tho im 100% coming back .. the place is HUGE
Terrible maintained golf course. Too many people and slow moved
Maybe a future for this 1920s course. But as it stands now..... very near its end
Service was great course was not so good
1 star is a generous rating. Played pitch and putts that are in better shape. Service was even worse. Rude receptionist. Actually heard the lady working the front tell a golfer when he asked for a score card that he should “google it”. Truly awful...
Had a bad experience last time I was there swore never to go their again. But husband wanted to try again so I booked us tee times for 1245. Once again no golf carts available for at least another hour. Worse run course I have ever played at. I play quite often. Never had a course run out of carts once but twice is ridiculous. Don’t do this course. Not in great shape and poorly run.
I would say the quality/price ratio is a bit below what I would rate as 5 stars, but its reasonable. Course can collect moisture in certain spots and would need improved drainage to remedy this. Greens overall are OK. Ive had generally positive experiences playing here.
Course was a complete mess, definitely would not recommend and will not go back
This golf course has an visually interesting and challenging layout with multiple changes in terrain and elevation and streams/Cobbs Creek winding thru the course, mostly on the front 9 holes. You can see fish, foxes, geese, and deer even though City is nearby. The tees and fairways are only in fair condition but the greens, though full of breaks you have to calibrate, roll quite well and the holes capture decent putts just fine. The sand traps are a big weak spot here, a mess right now. The pro shop staff were pleasant & friendly, particularly at twilight on Friday 8/30/19. Look for a good rate by reserving a tee time rather than just walking up. Full price is bit much. Draft beer was fine. The new carts are speedy and solid. One last thing. Be accurate and plan your shots well.
I’m okay with the price for what you get with the course conditions. It’s good to have an affordable course around. Although I do wish they were better and would be willing to pay more for better conditions, but that’s not what the review is for. The staff and manager at the desk have terrible customer service. They are rude and clearly don’t care about your experience with them. You can tell they would rather be doing something else. I’ve played here for the past 10 years and have had the season pass for the last 3. I think this summer will be my last playing here as it’s just not worth it any more. It’s a shame and I wish this wasn’t the case but I get frustrated every time I go there due to other customers, conditions, staff, etc.
I’m glad I was able to play here, but honestly the traps haven’t been groomed since the 70’s. There is so much potential at this course, as the layout is nice, and there are some really cool holes like the one pictures below. To the owners: plant some grass, groom a trap, spend a few bucks on your course rather than milk every future delco PGA tour champ!
Convinced Karakung used to be a public disc golf course that they just slapped greens on and charged people 30 bucks to use. Homeless people just chilling all along the rough of the second hole. Based on course conditions, I’d be stunned if there’s ever been one groundskeeper employed in the past 25 years.
Love this course prices are really fair and competitive. The old course is a pretty challenging course no matter how many times you play. A. lot of par threes. Which can cause a pretty large back up for a few holes. In the summer it can swamp a lot so beware. Lots of bugs. Bring spray. Overall it is a fun course. Dont bring your favorite balls if you still slice.
Staff was great. Course a little ratty in places. Great layout and scenery looking forward to playing again. BC golf lives up to its reputation - run it into the ground and sell.
Course is in fairly good shape. They have a refreshment cart which is cool for a municipal course. I would have given 5 stars if we didnt have to deal with random people walking across fairways. On one how there were 2 people walking their dogs right across a fairway and we were teeing off. On another hole there was approx 7 kids running around the green during our approach.
Honestly one of the worst golf course I’ve ever played on. The woman at the front desk is pretty nasty and the course might as well be a nature preserve. Geese poop everyone and foot high grass on every fairway on every hole. Even if you hit a great shot right down the middle you’ll never find your ball, expect to lose 10-25 balls.
This place is completely irresponsible. A golf ball smashed my car window, and they refused to help me out or take any responsibility. The manager is impossible to get ahold of, ignoring calls and messages, and very unhelpful the one time I spoke to him. He sent me to their insurance, who promptly denied my claim. I wish someone there would actually care enough to at least try to help. Id love to know what happens when someone gets injured by a golf ball. Im sure everyone will be pointing fingers at each other with no one taking responsibility. Very unimpressed.
Beautiful scenery, hard working grounds crew place is in obvious need for updated/new and reliable equipment to properly maintain course. Should charge more for rounds, and have more food/snack choices to up revenue to keep place thriving.
The course has a great design. You can tell, that at one point it was a top course. If the course was maintained well I think it could turn to its former glory. I would definitely play hear again. The course was challenging, but not so challenging thats and average player like myself could not golf there. My favorite part of the course was that I best my longtime friend and golf rival Dustin Ottemiller by one stroke!
Well its a really big golf course and happened to be there with some friends and I was quite surprised that how well it was kept although there was some gophers were some type of weird animal running around one the course. Yes we even did see some deer that morning however it was not such a bit experience
Booked over the phone, they took my card info but apparently that is not for the tab. Arrived and the price was $15 more per person than advertised online. Greens had more sand than the bunkers. I will not be going here again.
I’ve been golfing for about 5 years and this is by far the worst course I’ve ever played on. There is not a fairway on the entire course because the grass is not cut. The entire place has hazard level grass so if you hit a ball anywhere it’s going to be lost. Conversely, the greens had more sand and dirt than actual grass. I can’t believe this place is open, and I can’t believe the people who operate this place can be so disrespectful to the sport by allowing these issues to exist.
Picked up customer for a Lyft ride.
I really enjoy the Olde Course at Cobbs Creek. While the course is not long, it does offer some interesting and challenging holes. Maintenance of fairways and greens is very good. The course has a storied history and the potential to be a great tract with some targeted investment.
Good condition for the beginning of the year
The course was good. Changes are coming.Looks like for the better.
It is not at all maintained. There is a lot of overgrowth of weeds.
This is one of my go-to courses.(the old course) the course has a wide variety of holes that keeps the round interesting. the staff is really great., and so are the grounds crew. Ive lost things on the course multiple times and i was always able to retrieve it from staff the next round. karakung is a really good course for short game practice. i like to use it as a range, so to speak. its only 19 dollars in the evenings and you can go out and just hit practice shots at greens that are in great condition. its not quite as well kept as the old course, hence the discount but is still very playable.
Organized a small outing here on Memorial day weekend. Amazing value for a bachelor party with beer package included!
Great staff...fun courses. I have played the two Cobbs Creek courses 4 times this year.fairly well kept and fairly challenging
Bad course
The old course is the one to play. But it can get congested causing slow play. 4.5 hours to play 18 holes can be a little long.
This place is a Hidden Gem within the Philadelphia city limits. They have two courses to choose from and both courses offer an equal challenge no matter your level of play. I recommend the Karakung course as the greens are smaller and tougher to get on. Good luck making par on the KUNG.
Wonderful layout. Tight course. Fairways just ok. Greens in Great shape. Would play it again
Cobbs needs major work on both courses. And to invest in pull carts for the number of days they are walking only.
Staff is rude and range never seems to be open or have balls..
Great greens and tee boxes
Nice course. Problem areas include the cart paths, and the fescue growth is outrageous! The Open courses have nothing on this course. I lost 5 balls that bounced through the fairway and sunk in the 8 to 10 over growth.
The Olde Course is headed in the right direction. Trickiest greens Ive played all year. May not need Driver but you will need to bring your best putting game if you plan to post a good score.
WAS PLEASANTLY SURPRISED ( AFTER NOT PLAYING FOR YEARS ).
Karakung is much improved. The Tee Boxes are getting better. The fairways are actually starting to look like fairways and not rough.
Played the Olde Course this afternoon with my daughter. Would actually have given 3.5 stars as I would give a course like Rock Manor 4 stars and Cobbs is not on their level. That said, they deserve a better than 3 star rating, most because of the giant improvements that have been made to the course and the friendliness of the staff. We played a late day round and my young daughter had very little experience. They charged me $16 for the cart and no greens fees. We got 16 holes in before it got too dark to finish. I was blown away with how great of shape the greens were in and how true they were rolling. Also they were quick and manicured perfectly. The fairways are coming around and were in playable shape and the rough was at least cut to be rough. Sand traps were full and clean. Infinitely improved from last time I played here. You can really tell the ownership and grounds keepers are trying to turn the course around. The only thing I would complain about was the lack of signs marking the hole numbers and directions to the next hole. Also no food at the moment, due to the recent fire at the clubhouse With 2 courses intertwined in areas it can be confusing without proper markers. But for the money it was wayyyy better than a city course like FDR. Well done and I will likely be back and am glad I decided to give them a go after 15 years of swearing Id never go back.
Thinking about learning to play golf but not today too Damm hot
This is a great course!
This is a huge public course. Surprisingly well maintained, reasonable price; definitely worth a visit. Would recommend to friends.Only played the Olde Course
Good place to yake your dog swimming
If I could have I would only give it a half a star rating. Fortunately for them the greens on the course were in OK condition/ they putt true. Even then through most were spotted and dry. As for everything else . The pro shop is a cubby inside a barn more or less with outfitted with a man cave refrigerator with some water and Gatorade (if you need golf balls be sure to look for Fonzy on the 6th tee box selling hawked balls). The fall rate is 35$ for either course which leads me to believe that the summer rate is overpriced. To reserve a tee time make sure have your name, number, address, credit card number, blood from your first born child, your sleep number, and your white blood cell count. Last but not least the course is not policed by anyone which lead my groups early departure. All in all
This is a challenging golf course it is the sister of Merion East a U S Open venue
I have a wonderful rate in review
Love the layout - need irrigation, hard ground in the fall & winter
Way better now that they are under new management
My sister lives there and its pretty good but has a lot of bugs such as spiders, flys, mosquitos, and many other pest that we all hate
Dont ever play Krapakung!!! Doesnt deserve to be called a golf course. Would it be that hard to put some grass seed on the damn tee boxes?! Shouldnt be allowed to charge people money to play here. Also, the staff is completely incompetent. Olde fairways were next to some of the Karakung holes. They looked eh. If you are in the city and want to play at a public course, just drive 10-15 minutes longer to a course farther from the city. It would be worth it.
Played Karakung, be sure to keep it near the fairway or youre in trouble. No wait at all though.
Its nice
Good
World famous course, long, hilly and difficult.
Ugh...bad
Philly.
Well maintained.
Nice
Great course.
Still recovering from all the rain
You got a little wet today but we got our money back well at least to play another round
