This is a great museum. I enjoyed the Elijah Pierce exhibit and the Barnes collection, in general. All of the Impressionist artwork was great. I also liked the other artifacts that he collected (African, Native American, Ancient Egypt and other cultures). Very impressive and interesting.

I’ve been to many art galleries and museums domestically. The Barnes is listed amongst the best I’ve visited. Even with covid accommodations it was a terrific experience. The digital assist available to phone users was so great. The interface was easy and made the experience unbelievable. The building itself is a real treasure architecturally.

I really enjoyed the museum and the Elijah Pierce special exhibit. There were a few places to sit outside and relax. Definitely consider a patron membership. Its worth the cost. The discounts on tickets, etc means that you can go twice in a year and at least break even for 2, make out better than that for 3+.

We visited the Barnes on our Philly trip. The collection is truly amazing. The social distancing was attempted to be enforced with scanning into areas and limits on people in rooms. Though many ignored the signs on those limits. They were still working out kinks in that system but enjoyed the museum greatly.

This was my very first time visiting the Barnes Foundation, but it surely won’t be my last. I was invited by the Young Professionals organization in Philly to attend an art event here. The event was held on the very last day of the “30 Americans” exhibit, which is a mighty fine exhibit that displays all the amazing Black artists!! This exhibit will surely be missed!Aside from the event, the Barnes foundation is an exceptional Philly art museum. There is a sufficient amount of art work within the facilities and it does not take all day to explore! You have time for lunch after your visit and also attend another art museum down the street!

The art collections and exhibitions at the Barnes Foundation are world class. My family enjoys the free family days on the 1st Sunday of each month, and my wallet appreciates not having to shell out the $25/adult admissions fee! Over the years, the Barnes has provided a base for our homeschooling art appreciation units. Most recently we toured the thought-provoking 30 Americans exhibit.

The Barnes is my favorite art museum! I say this as someone who doesnt overly love art museums because I often find them overwhelming, the Barnes is absolutely amazing and worth going to see! Im a big fan of impressionism, however the most incredible part of this museum is the way its laid out symmetrically. Not only by size, but often by subject of the painting. It is fascinating to examine the layout and see the connections made by the late doctor that collected these works.

This museum is a hidden gem in Philadelphia. It houses the largest collection of French impressionist art outside of France, that includes Cezannes renowned Card Players painting and Renoirs bather paintings. The only downside is the relatively high ticket price ($30), but they have a great deal for students who only pay $5.

The Price show there now is eye, and mind, opening.Although you cannot forget the collection itself, try to ignore it to savor the building that Tsien and Williams (excuse my off of the top of my head senior memory of names and spelling). To compete with Paul Phillippe Crets original building in Merion was a fools errand. Instead they surround Crets original spaces with a temple of reflection and contemplation where in the intertsties between the excitement of the galleries, one can find peace and recharge to face another broadside of Cezannes and Renoirs and Prendergasts.

Some museums are very large and take s days to enjoy, but the Barnes Foundation is all about quality not quantity. Youll see some very famous paintings here. Many of them youll recognize immediately from reproductions or from movie scenes. However, seeing the real artwork is spectacular. Try to set aside at least two to three hours to digest all of these masterpieces. They have a very cool website whereby you can use your phone to find out all of the details on each work of art, therefore, the walls are devoted entirely to the art, rather than descriptions. The gift shop is very tastefully done and the gifts are high quality items that respect the artwork of the museum. Definitely save some time for the gift store.

I absolutely adore this gem of a museum. It has an amazing collection, hundreds of pieces of mostly impressionist art. Dozens of pictures of my most favorite artist Henri Rousseau, for example. Pictures are put together based on the color and the line and the composition, not historic periods as in other museums, which makes for a different viewing experience. You will see Medieval art pieces next to impressionist works and some interesting ladles hanging on the sides. The new building faithfully recreates the vision of Mr. Barnes, and everything with two exceptions is exactly in the place he planned for it. If you love impressionist art, you simply must visit this museum.

I (probably like most non-art fans) found this museum from the documentary “The Art of the Steal.”After watching the movie I was upset they moved the art into the city against the wishes of Mr. Barnes. However, after visiting the museum I am sure glad they did. It was absolutely stunning and an amazing experience! It was also not too packed like other popular museums which was very nice. You can take your time to really enjoy the art and sit down just to take it all in.I would HIGHLY recommend people to The Barnes!

Learn about Barnes and how he came to collect the works of art on display. It is a fascinating story. Excellent museum. Dr. Albert Barnes who this museum is named after led a very interesting life. His ideas are reflected in his choices of the art he collected and even the placement of these pieces. This group of iconic pieces does not come together by accident. His ability to see talent in art that was not commonly thought of in this country as amazing examples of their genre was before his time. The art and grounds here are well mantained and cared for and is worth a visit!

Their permanent displays are truly fantastic and its nice to see a lot of well-known artists work here!!! There is sooo much to see! There were so many people here but one security member decided to target my friend and told her that she couldnt hold her coat (that she had to wear it) and then afterwards followed us around the rest of the time. I really did not care for Mr. Barnes monotonous pattern of displaying fine art. Granted there are masterpieces worth viewing there, a great collection of Renoir. The building is beautiful as well. Once a private collection started for educational purposes, the Barnes Foundation is now open to the public. Loaded with Renoir and Cezanne it focuses on the impressionists. The collection also heavily features the works of Picasso and Matisse. All the while, pairing paintings with objects to juxtapose different mediums and how art transforms from canvas to tools and furniture. A very educational collection it clearly compares and contrasts the works of artists and they have many educated docents to help the visitors work through it.

I highly recommend the Barnes Foundation, especially if you’re a lover of impressionist and post-impressionist art. The museum also has a website where you can use your phone to scan a picture and they’ll have all the information as well as an explanation behind the artist and the painting. Be careful, however, as the staff there are pretty vigilant about people keeping the appropriate distance from the art.
