Great trails for enjoying birds and ponds. Flat, easy trails good for all ages. Lots of meandering trail choices and little nooks to explore. Some beautiful swans and tons of ducks and water birds of all sizes. Its a great spot to walk by the water year round. Parts of the outer loop trail follow along the Napa River and sometimes you can watch the boats go by. Every season there are new things to see!

Easy walking. Flat. Not much shade, but benches to sit on. Wetlands were dry since there was not much rain this winter & it is July, but the ponds by the water treatment plant had water, birds, plants, etc. Saw flock of redwing blackbirds, swans, geese, ducks, egrets, great blue heron. I plan to return during the rainy season, to see even more birds. A little tricky to find turn off, but also close to 101.

I love walking the gentle two-mile loop at Schollenberger, especially this time of year when there is water in the pond and sweet, little puffball baby birds on the water or graceful swans paddling about in pairs. The wildflowers are beautiful, too.

This park is free, and is a great place to exercise outdoors and see the river. It is right next to our new water reclamation site, but it does not smell. I am glad Petaluma has a resource like this one, we need more public open space like this.

Shollenberger Park was very beautiful last evening i went for a nice walk with my friend. The birds were so alive and singing very nice. Also the river boats were a new attraction i havent seen. Id recommend this park with friendly hikers joggers and walkers to anyone wanting to enjoy the wetlands. A little bit stinky vut didnt seem to bother me too much.

Beautiful location to walk in nature and stroll or jog on your choice of paved or gravel surfaces. Lots of choices of paths wind throughout the estuary, along the Petaluma River and among brackish ponds. It is a much needed sanctuary for thousands of birds of a huge variety year round. My favorite time to go is in the Spring when all the babies are out with their mothers. There are three sort of distinct sections in the park, so you can choose one or travel through all three. Its also a great place for bicycle riding and bird watching is a must. Lots of spots to stop for a snack or lunch. There are public restrooms at a couple locations, as well as a few different parking lots. Parking is free. Its open Dawn to dusk. There are waste bins, picnic tables and resting benches conveniently located throughout as well. Bringing binoculars and or a camera is worth the effort. One caution, there is no cover anywhere from sun or rain or wind, so go prepared in extreme weather.

Shollenberger Park makes for a very pleasant walk, bike ride, and/or nature viewing experience. Do not expect amenities beyond the occasional bench and bulletin board. But the pond and surrounding vegetation provide for a nice variety of wildlife, including, most visibly, the red winged black birds, swans, and Canadian geese, but also tortoises, ducks, and some insects of course. The path around the park are sometimes paved, sometimes dirt/gravel, and sometimes it splits into both. The park is just far enough from the bustle of Petaluma to have low (but present) noise pollution, and close enough to see civilization in most directions.

Beautiful walking trail for bird watching. The loop is about 2 miles and flat, about a quarter of it is paved and the rest is gravel. Parking can be somewhat of a hassle, but most of the time there are spots in the parking lot available. Great place to walk the dog, but be sure to check for ticks! There are some stunning views of the Petaluma River from here, and some trails that break off so you could extend the 2 mile walk further.

I went at 7pm in July. First time i found parking in their very small lot. Has bathroom. I had tried to visit several times before during daytime but car lot has always been full. Not much there to see unless you like a bunch of mud flats and weeds but the tide was out. Hoping to go back when more water. I am told lots of migrating birds in fall and spring. Does have fresh air but can hear cars in distance on highway. Nice running trail and lots of people running or walking dogs. Picnic tables and benches a little way in past bathroom.

This popular park is a square shaped walk around a several acre pond of somewhat seasonal brackish water. It attracts ducks, geese, swans, gulls, and other shore birds. Half is paved and half gravel. It is quite flat. Bikes and strollers are popular here as well as office workers getting outdoor excercise. At the entrance on the first two legs in either direction are fresh water sloughs turtles and an occasional muskrat can be seen.Right now (4/11/18) there is a very visible and very large swans nest. There were two swans in it today. On the Eastern edge of the park is an estuary and mudflat with shorebirds. Clapper rails nest nearby. Birders come from all over as the different types of water ecology make habitat for all types of birds. Im told it is in the Pacific flyover.

Saw lots of birds midday Sunday in April at this wetland. Birds included: swans, geese, coots, grebes, shovelers, gadwall, teal plus other ducks, egrets, bitterns, stilts, avocets, wrens, blackbirds. Birds were easy to see despite there being many people around. We spent an enjoyable two hours here looking at birds and wildflowers.
