Nice little spot not too far from the Lillian boat launch. The dog flies were awful the last time we were here but we still enjoyed our time. The water is shallow enough for the children to enjoy the beach and swimming. Its not too crowded and a relaxing place to enjoy.
Went there last Thursday. Still one of my favorite local trails. Choice between a short easy trail to the bayou and a long trail with beach access. Great views, quiet area, definitely recommend this one.
For walking probably good. 7.6 mile trail runs through saw palmetto and pines next to the beach of Perdido Bay. It’s quite. For mountain biking not good. Trail is about 70% sand. Have you ever tried riding through sand? Enough said. Two fit people on bikes had a tough time. Happy it’s over. Likely won’t come back. Maybe the shorter trail is better?
Did the Perdido loop. It wasn’t great for the following reasons.1. You’re walking through high grass half the time in a snake, including water moccasin, breeding ground.2. Numerous puddles that you can’t navigate around without getting into the deep brush. The surrounding vegetation was nice and the views were decent though.
I have hiked all the trails in this state park and they were all gorgeous. Loved this place.
Very clean restroom and the walk was nice although one of the kids stepped on a nail.
Great hike. Lovely day. Very secluded areas for you nature enthusiasts. We hiked in and hung out at the beach all day or in the hammock very close. Trees provided shade when it got to hot and the water cooled us down as we swam with dolphins not far away. Overall one of the best kept secrets Pensacola area has to offer
Quiet and picturesque all times of the year. Several trails for different levels of activity. Tarklin boardwalk trail leads right to the bayou. Perdido Bay trail is great for jogging or a longer excursion to the bay. Trails are dog friendly too. Longer trails do get muddy and have standing water in parts, dress accordingly. Park tends to be busier on Sundays. There is a small fee to park, I dont recall for sure but it was under $5.
Beautiful and peaceful for a nice walk and safe distancing in these pandemic days. Bayou was very peaceful. Will check out Perdido Bay trail next week!
Absolutely beautiful place, there is a .5 mile boardwalk hike that takes you over a Pitcher Plant bog that holds some endangered white tops, infact this place has several species of carnivorous plants that call it home. Ending with a spectacular view of the bay. There is also a 7.2 mile hike called the Perdido Bay Trail that goes to the bay or beach crossing over bogs and such. Most of it was underwater from all the rains from the week but it was a beautiful hike nonetheless. Highly recommend getting out and exploring this place.
Beautiful well maintained park. Go there often.
Great little hike not far from town. Mucky in spots but new trails blazed around with makeshift log walkways. Be sure to bring OFF or other insect repellent as mosquitoes can be really bad further in. Unfortunately, despite the fact there are doggie bags provided, there are multiple piles of dog waste which is unfortunate. Otherwise a great place with great views.
The 1 mile route is super easy (paved/boardwalk) the 7.2 mile loop is well marked and easy to navigate.
This place is great to get touch with nature pleany of wild animals and wildflowers at end of trail a large lake loved it
Family and dog friendly, basic toilet at trailhead, Small fee to enjoy the trails and boardwalk, limited parking on the weekends due to popularity
A frequent walker who enjoys the outside, the Preserve offers great trails to explore pine forests, live oaks, palmetto under-stories, and a multitude of grasses wrapped by shorelines on Perdido Bay. As often as I visit, I am always surprised by new observations either bugs, birds, small mammals, water and beach creatures. The rush of breezes through the landscape contrasts with a noisy, machine filled world. Springtime is especially wonderful.
Nicely maintained trail offering a great running trail with very scenic views. Enjoyed it!!
Nice place to walk and enjoy nature.
Have hiking boots, $3, and a little time to hike. Beautiful view and an easy hikeWe took the short trail, 1/2 mile in and out. On paved sidewalks and wood boardwalks. Really easy walk. But would like to hike the 7-mile route sometime. The trail has the occasional signs that explain the surroundings. The signs are easy to read and well placed. The boardwalks are well maintained and very accessible. We caught the fish jumping just before dusk. It was quite a sight.
We got here too late in the day to enjoy it, will have to try again when we can get here earlier.
Great place to walk and be at peace with nature. Seen an eagle fishing in the bayou. Picture plants are plentiful but not in full color in February. Theyll come back soon.
Beautiful area. Early in the year so not much wildlife.
The trail is well marked and wide enough to pass other hikers without stepping to the side. Watch out if you go after a few days of rain, there could be some parts in the first mile where you get your feet wet. Beautiful views of the bay and its usually not very crowded. We usually see a few groups of people but thats about it. Dog friendly too!
Great state park.. Wonderful... Clean, quiet, great trails
Beautiful. Many trails for dogs, kids or bikes.
Great easy hike. One of the trails is about 6.5 miles long. Really look for your markers, they are there but its so pretty out on this trail its easy to get distracted. We walked all the way to the Bay and saw a couple of dolphins. The trails are fairly well maintained.
A serene space. Walking among the skinny trees. The water whispered softly.
Rode our bikes.. Mountain bikes would be best. Nice park
The only trails I would hike are dog friendly trails. This place is very dog friendly, they even offer free waste bags at the beginning of the trail. Walkways and bridges are well kept. The flora and fauna arent something you see everyday. I would imagine this place as an awesome choice for bird watchers as well, they were everywhere. 3$ to park. You should go explore a side of Florida rarely seen!
Peaceful spot, with pitcher plants, slash pine, and long boardwalk. Wheelchair accessible too! We enjoyed a pleasant afternoon
Love the park, beautiful bayou. Not a fan of the daily use fee. As a Florida resident it should be waived or allowed to be a 7 day pass.
About a 2 mile walk, one way, to the beach/bay area. There is a cool lookout point if you want a shorter walk down a paved trail. Perfect for bike riding, off road and paved options. LOTS of birds and shade as you hike/ride as well as at the beach access area. Bring enough water for length of stay and climate. There is no water along the trail or at the beach. Use bug spray; deer flies
Absolutely a beautiful little gem. Lots of people walking dogs. I love both trails. The one mile leg is great for the kids, and the seven and a half mile loop has a little beach that is usually somewhat private. I always see interesting birds and the pitcher plants and sundews have always been super cool in my opinion. The history is really neat to! Definitely a cool place to spend a beautiful day.
Very beautiful! Brought our little dog and walked the 1 mile loop. Other option was more rustic 7.2 miles loop. Many trees and the water was lovely. Paved and clean. Plastic bags, trash can and toilet provided. $3 honor system fee to walk the trails.
Very lovely nature walk. The Tarklin Bayou walk is mostly on a raised boardwalk. It is short and easy. The Perdido Bay Trail is much longer. We only walked perhaps 3/4 of a mile in and then back out. It is sandy covered with pine needles, nice and wide, well maintained and marked. There were muddy parts, but easy to go around. Consider wearing boots if it has been raining. We took our two dogs and saw several others with their dogs. Dogs must be on a lease. The parking lot is ample and there is a bathroom. Be sure to bring some one dollar bills because there is an honor system fee box. $2 per person. There are maps in the kiosk. According to the pamplet, there a total of 6.5 miles of trails.
Beautiful experience...orchids and pitcher plants.
Great little nature trail!! We enjoyed it!
A relaxed place to hang out with family.
Well maintained park that shows the natural habitat of pitcher plants
Just beautiful views
Nice well maintained scenery and flowers...kids can do it and even the littles..i highly recommend for families
Easy trails, flat and pretty terrain and vegetation. Saw some wildlife out there, deer, birds, and dogs lol. Really nice place for walking or running. Clean
Beautiful, easy hike. Board walk most of the way. Pitcher plants are amazing.
Nice easy to walk path through a pristine area.
Nice view on the beach and a good walk. Would reccomend to people who like going on nature trails.
I dont know what this place is but I do know 2 things.1. Due to my location history, Ive definitely been here before.2. I have no recollection of this place so I was very intoxicated and since I didnt get arrested or hurt Id recommend this place two thumbs up
Very nice and relaxing 1/2 mile to the water. Straight in and straight back out.
Great place for a morning hike. Theres a small Beach access that is usually empty. Your shoes will get wet on this one especially the few days after it rains.
Short hike to the bayou. Beautiful place. Love just down the road and cant believe we waited this long to go. Definitely going to bike the Perdido Bay trail in the Fall.
This park offers scenic views and plenty of walking. There are multiple trails throughout the park, one being a boardwalk. It is dog friendly and there is an honor box for parking there. The entrance is kind of hidden so keep a look out for a small dirt road entrance.
Lovely little 1mile round trip boardwalk. Hidden little gem. You feel away from the city sounds n noise. Just lovely.
Was good to get off the hiway and smell the pine trees and experience nature
We took the trail, which was an easy walk through a beautiful pine forest to a bay. Peaceful and serene. We saw one small section of pitcher plants (visited in March). At the end of the trail we watched pelicans and osprey diving for lunch. Fantastic walk on a stroller-friendly trail. Our kids (ages 1 and 3) had a great time. The boardwalk sections of the trail include a railing - very safe and kid-friendly.
Great example of mother nature
Went for an Easter jog in this beautiful park. We did the 7 mile loop which offers marvelous views of Perdido Bay. The trail is like an old forest road which varies from grass and pine needles to sand and mud at some spots. There is a plethora of wildlife. 10/10 would jog/hike again.
Great running trails. They have one that is about 2.7 out and one that is about half a mile out on a boardwalk.
An absolute wonderful place full of Adventure and nature!
Such a gift to have this gorgeous spot so near!
Nice little quiet retreat from the daily grind.
The place is a great place to take a hike!
Its a pretty trail but you have to pay to use it. There is almost no parking. One outhouse and very little shade.
Such a great place to go for a walk and be peaceful. There were nice wooden walkways so it wasnt muddy. $3 Park entrance fee, honor system.
Love the scenery! Love to jog here.
Wonderful hike! Everything is kept well. I saw no trash. The scenery was beautiful! Pet friendly as long as leashed and you pick up after them :)
Love this spot! Feel like you want a break from Pensacola & need some peace & quiet? Come here for a long walk. Follow the boardwalk all the way to the water, beautiful.
You can see the pitcher plants by taking a left at a fork, towards the big boardwalk. Neat spot to explore!
Its cool, theres a lot of interesting carnivorous plants. The longer trails _do_ get really wet and muddy and stay that way even a week or more after a decent rain - if youre planning on going on anything other than the boardwalk, plan on bringing some tall waterproof boots (trying to go around the water can get you stuck in blackberry bushes), or some sort of footwear you dont mind totally submerging.
There is mud after rains, but if you stay in the middle you can walk through without getting in it. I have only been able to see the Pitcher Plants in warmer weather when there are more insects. But the walking trail is beautiful, wetlands, and leads to Tarkiln Bayou. Your dog is not allowed in the water.
Nice parking pads, water, electric and sewer hookups. Walk to the beach was an easy 1/2 mile, or you can ride a tram to the beach.
Really enjoyed the trail across from park that is more of a nature walk with different paths to follow. Also enjoyed the walkway going to the main park.
I go here fairly often. The big loop trail can be very wet along the inbound stretch but once you get to the bay its especially beautiful. Past that you get into pine and Palmetto scrub area. Forest service recently did a lot of work in the area cutting new trails that arent on any map yet. Good place to spend a day exploring.
$2 to walk the trail. Nice place if you enjoy nature.
A very nice preserve to visit for both short and long walks. Plenty of plants and animals wildlife to see. Paved trail for a ways and then turns.intk a boardwalk, both suitable for wheelchair visitors. The lake view is awesome but it would be nice if there was dock so visitors could put their feet in the water.
We walked the 1 mile trail. It was very pleasant and relaxing!
Great hike that leads to a beautiful bay view
Nice park for walk in the woods out to water! Cost 3 dollars.
A nice place.
Nice. Quiet. Short and sweet walk
Absolutely beautiful and a fun trail to walk!
Great place for a walk.
I loved it so much
Comfortable walk that we and our dogs enjoyed.
Great place if you like pitcher plants
Wonderful time couldnt have asked for a better day
We did the 1.2 mile Tarkiln walk to the water and back and it was very well kept.
Great place for a walk in nature. Nice quiet place for a paddle too if you paddle in from outside the park.
A fantastic place the true woods the true woodlands of Florida I would recommend this to any outdoor enthusiast
Pines, saw palmettos, pitcher plants. About 1.5 miles to the Bay, 7 miles of total trail loop. Trail is well maintained, but can be muddy from time to time. .5 mile trail to bayou is all sidewalk and boardwalk with some nice pitcher plants and beautiful view of the Tarkiln Bayou.Entry fee $3 self pay envelopes.
Great place to get outdoors and hike. I wouldnt recommend going here after rain as some areas of the trail go through low lying areas.
We went Geocaching on the trail. Its a nice walk.
A great place to relax with family and barbeque and fish ...
One hell of a long walk to the pier for a 65 year old man. But we got there and back beautiful Woodlands. Beautiful Bayou.
Nice nature walk and is pet friendly
What an incredible asset to this area. Very well maintained.
7 mile walk is on sand and dirt. 1 mile half boardwalk. 7 miles there and back total just as the 1 mile trail. Bring water
