Always beautiful handcrafted work! Staff are always polite and helpful.
Incredible if you are planning to be out that way definitely worth it if you dont rush it. If you are going just to run thru it to say you been there then wait as you do every one a disservice
Very interesting and evocative museum. Beautifully put together. I felt I understood how modern day Native Americans have blended cultures and done a wonderful job of maintaining their identity. Many authentic works for sale in the gift shop and a nice place for lunch.
This amazing museum is a must-see. It’s large and covers the cultural history of the native people from a few hundred years ago to the present. The varied artifacts and information included the food they harvested, hunted, and caught; tools; woven baskets for various purposes; beaded clothing; trading with British people at a trading post; losing native tribal land in two successive treaties; and much more. They have a large gift shop with locally made jewelry, Pendleton wool items, and an excellent assortment of books, some about a focused topic relating to native Americans, for example, one book talked about the ways in which the local tribes historically practiced gender equality. They do not allow pictures to be taken inside, so I don’t have any to share.
Gorgeous place, great art exhibit going on right now with some AMAZING artwork by a local artist, the exhibits are beautifully heartbreaking. Such amazing craft work! The artifacts are so neat! I could spend hours in there studying these pieces! I appreciate the history telling and agree with some other commenters that they definitely tell the parts of history you dont normally see in other museums in the area and it was very enlightening. I love how they highlight the beauty in their lives alongside the horrors but my favorite part is their handicrafts! Such beautiful work! Definitely dont miss this! Totally worth taking a break from the tables for! Dont miss it!
We enjoyed our tour of this Native American center. Many hands-on exhibits.
Breath taking, The details are out of this world. A lot has been lost, but you can peice it together.
Comfortable friendly atmosphere, awesome little cafe best huckleberry cheesecake I have had on quite sometime. Cannot ask for a better staff. Recommend to see.
This is a wonderful alternative to the several colonist romance narratives found at other nearby museums. The Institute provides a wholistic picture of the area’s history.
Wonderful museum, not so large that it gets to be too much. Spend 2 hours here. Some interactive things helps with the kids!
Amazing experience! Fabulous exhibits.
Pretty cool to visit. Interesting history all within. Kids loved it.
Beautiful and sobering. Unique arrangement of artifacts and dioramas tells the story of a people whose way of life was destroyed as whites pushed to settle the west. I learned a lot about the native peoples of the area.
This cultural museum contains many artifacts you wont see anywhere else. When you visit you get to learn about the native culture, hear their songs, learn about their past successes and hardships, hear about current projects, and hear some historical truth not many others will tell you. Plus the restaurant is good. Whole the gift shop is pricey, they have many gifts from local artists, and Huckleberry food I cant find anywhere else; not to mention Pendleton blankets and other Pendleton products.
The Friendship Cafe has excellent service excellent staff excellent food great place to have lunch with a friend.
Culturally enlightening place. Lots of material to experience. Not too much to go over in a couple of hours.
It features an incredible, superbly curated, thought provoking, and moving permanent exhibit that beautifully recalls the rich history of the people of the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation. I spent multiple hours viewing it. The museum store was so visually appealing and offered a wide variety of high quality gifts and many intriguing books. If you happen by the Pendleton area you must visit!
Omg this experience was magnificent I encourage everyone to go the special audio effects were so cool,so much knowledge Im just in awe!
Really love coming here and just reviewing our history as native Americans and what has happened to us in recent history.
Beautiful museum, and very educational. My kids and I learned a lot about our local tribes and their history.
Wonderful people, fantastic exhibits, this cultural center is a must visit destination.
