The best state park in all of the US! The trails are great, swimming in the lake, the demonstration farm where you can feed and pet animals, and a wonderful campground. I would suggest going in the fall when the weather is nice and the leaves are changing colors. So glad we stopped here on our way across country.

Hiked the blue and white trails and the white-yellow connector. Lots of miles of well-signaled trails, never got lost, and a beautiful waterfall. The white-yellow connector was rather steep. All in all a good sized park full of hikes. Not many scenic views but a nice forest, especially now with Fall colors.

Very long winding road to get to Peavine falls. But a beautiful mountain top view once you get there. Very steep hiking trail..me and my younger daughter did not attempt to go down. Very large park! We went to the sand/boat area which had picnic tables where you can sit & watch the geese. We also went to Tree top Reserve...very cool! Great experience

Oak Mountain State Park is a magical place with beautiful hiking trails and stunning lake. Oak Mountain Interpretive Center is a must see while visiting the park. You can see some great exhibits and it is common for one of the sweet and knowledgeable staff to bring one of the residents out of their habitats for an exciting informational and educational experience.

We had a great time. There’s lots to do. With three young girls, they had a blast. We had a picnic on the lake, then went to the petting farm. The animals are nice but the goats get aggressive a little if you feed them. The food does cost a dollar. We also hiked the tree top trail to the wildlife center. It was very short and easy.

We were very disappointed. We camped in section B in October 2020. The bath houses leave a lot to be desired. Only one commode per bath house for men. That commode had no power to flush and was either not working or stopped up a good bit of the time. It did not rain while we were there, yet the bathhouse floors were always muddy. Several times there was no hot water.I camped with several friends. One friend had reservations, but they had rented out his site to someone else.. because of computer errors. Another friend had reservations for 5 nights...but their computer only had him down for three nights. Good thing he has his reservation email with him. They tried to charge another friend double, because they said he hadnt paid even though he had proof of payment with him.

I took my 2 sons (5 & 8 yo) camping over the weekend. From the greeter at the gate, to our camp host and every State Park employee we met was so friendly and helpful. With only 3 days at Oak Mountain we hiked a few of the many trails, saw a waterfall and swam in 3 different lakes. My boys are already begging to go back. I loved everything about this Park and highly recommend a visit.

We stayed in Cabin 5 in the fall. Cabin was super clean! Well lit. Nice deck area with picnic bench, porch swing and char coal grill. Private shower and toilet area. Full size fridge. Small stove. A pair of scissors in the kitchen would have been nice. We had plenty of everything else in the kitchen.Several steps to get into the cabin. Bathroom shower combo. I bedroom had queen or King bed. Other room had 2 double beds with adjoining bathroom. There were several nice towels and housekeeping would give you more if you needed them. I am accustomed to sitting in a recliner at home, there were none. There was one couch and one chair. They looked new, but we did not find them comfortable at all.The park - the signs made it easy to find wherever you needed to go. Everyone one at the park was helpful and friendly. Chris, the pro, went out of his way to help us.I went inside to the wild life center and spoke to someone who worked there. I then proceeded to the tree top trail. I walked all the way down there (on a sore foot) to find it was closed. How hard would it have been to put a sign out that said it was closed for construction. Very frustrating!Next to our cabin was a large, nice gazebo. It had several picnic tables and a fire place. The cabin is located on a tiny beautiful lake. Free canoes and paddles are provided! I had fun watching all the turtles. I brought my kayak which was easy to launch right in front of the cabin.

Trails not marked well...some almost impassable. The waterfall was a trickle running down a rock. Pour a glass of beer down a rock...you have seen the falls. One can rent kayaks there..but not at all exciting.

Oak Mountain is endless delight for those who love the outdoors. We go 1-3 times a week and still there are things we havent yet explored. The amount of trails, mapped and unmapped, will keep you busy for years. The demonstration farm has a delightful host of animals to pet and feed. The flora and fauna are varied and interesting during every season. The BMX track is a favorite for kids. The cabins are the best deal for a vacation - or staycation - in Birmingham (you get free use of canoes and john boats, and they are on a private lake that promises to be relaxing.) We buy an annual pass every year and stay at the cabins for at least a week as well, and we never tire of Oak Mountain,

We are so lucky to have this abundant and pristine 10k acre playground right inside the Bham Metro! If there is one thing the State of Alabama did Really well is that all the Alabama State Park site selections are some of the best pieces of land within the State! Oak Mountain is no exception with a good mix of steep hillsides, flat plateaus and nice lakes in between this beauty has a little bit of every type of topography necessary to satisfy your outdoor needs! With the recently passed Amendment 2 that ensures that funding earmarked for state parks remain in the state parks budget, money is starting to be reinvested into the park systems and this park in particular has seen a lot of wonderful and much needed upgrades! From hiking, biking, fishing, boating, horseback riding, camping, archery, to the Alabama Wild Life  Center and so many more nuggets this State Park truly has something for everyone! I have been going since I was a kid and it will always be a special place to me and many, many others too! Go find out for yourself as you will not be disappointed!

We called the office, someone showed up 15 minutes later. We were able to hook up but all thru the night, we had low voltage, lights kept flickering, the refrigerator kept buzzing as it wasnt switching to gas when the voltage got low. Next morning, we decided to leave and couldnt get the slide in due to the low voltage.Bathrooms were another issue. They were not cleaned, and there was no soap to wash hands. One commode had a mess in it and that seemed to have been in there for days!! Rank stench!!! I tried to flush it but flush wasnt functioning! However, other Covid 19 protocols were in place. Very rude employee. We were on the way to hike and following Google maps while driving in. We came to a portion of the road where a loop branched off to the right. You could either go through it or continue straight. There was a hut to the right and a stop sign but it wasnt for the main road. We kept going straight because we thought it was for help, or for people going to camp grounds. A lady came out and waved at us. We backed up, realizing that it was to pay entrance (we saw no sign that had pay here or anything like that). No big deal though because we backed up. My boyfriend apologized and said sorry we saw stop signs over there so we thought we needed to go this way to which she replied with a very snarky tone yeah so you could run the gate. 10 dollars. I mean if we wanted to run the gate (there was no actual gate) we would have kept going not reversed and apologized...? Even if youre having a bad day you shouldnt be rude to people like that. The trail markers around the waterfall werent very clear, but it was a pretty place. I just wish the ticket lady wasnt so rude.

Mountain Biking is a must at Oak Mountain! Although, some trails could use some maintenance for example, Thunder trail has a fallen tree blocking the trail. Another find trail at Oak mountain is lightning. Lightning is one of my favorite trails, although it is a expert trail the berms are just so well made! Oak mountain is great for mountain bikers of all skill levels as there is a wide variety of trail difficulties.Golfing is also an option, as this park has many different attractions. Unfortunately this do come at a cost (Paying to enter the park). But is 100% worth the cost! Other visitors are polite and not rude (which is always a plus).Oak mountain has something for everyone. If your into BMX, good news they have a pump track and a course with a big drop to build up speed. If your into archery, well they have that too. If your into mountain biking (as I’ve said earlier) they have that too!Oak mountain is a large park, which allows for more attractions. You can rent cabins and sleep at a state park (which is pretty cool). You can ride a boat in a lake. You can film a movie if your into that! Basically whatever you are looking for they have (not really but you know what I mean). Many different features make this park unique and that is one of the main reasons I like it so much! It does have its downsides of course. ( trails needing maintenance, trees needing trimming, potholes needing repairing, etc.) but overall it’s a great park and can create some very good and fun memories.
