I go to this restaurant quite a bit! This is the best place to to have a good dinner. I visit this spot frequently. The meals are excellent, the staff members are helpful and the prices are decent. I like eating in this place to have a good supper.
Housed in a quaint brick building transports away from Pasadena and into Western Europe. Bacchus Kitchen is a New American take on classic, mostly European dishes. The wine bottles are modestly priced ($35-$80) with a few available by the glass ($13+). A handful of beer and water to choose from, including a 2019 vintage of Pasadena Water for $0 (we had a chuckle when we saw that on the menu). They also have San Pellegrino sodas and espresso beverages. We ordered a bottle of Altolandon Doña Leo (a Spanish Manchuela white wine), appetizers lamb belly and lemongrass curry with tiger shrimp & clams, main dishes pan seared scallops and beef bourguignon, and shared the panna cotta. The meal started with an amuse-bouche consisting of a crustini topped with a sliced and peeled tomato, sea salt, olive oil and fresh basil. It was a nice pallet cleanser for the appetizers. This was the first time Ive had lamb belly. Ive had countless pork belly, so I was intrigued to try a lamb version. Lamb belly doesnt have the same fat-to-protein ratio as pork belly, so dont expect a thick layer of crispy fat. The more lean crispy meat had a beautiful concentration of the delicious gamey lamb flavor, which contrasted well with the white vinegared apples and fennel. The lemongrass curry with tiger shrimp and clams were even better than the lamb belly. A lovely medium spiced lemongrass curry with fresh clams and large tiger shrimp. The two slices of rustic toasted bread was the right medium to sop-up the curry. The pan seared scallops were perfectly cooked medium with a golden brown crust. The tender center had a delicate ocean brine with a subtle sweetness. The large couscous with carrots, fennel root and garlic was a lovely side with sugar snap peas and wild mushrooms over a creamy tomato sauce. My fiance had the beef bourguignon. I only had a bite, so I cant go into too much detail, especially since its not photographed in this review. The mashed potatoes were creamy and the mushrooms brought out the savory flavor of the meat. The panna cotta was amazing. The vanilla bean topped panna cotta sits on a puree of passion fruit and is complemented by blackberries. All in all, wed come back for the lemongrass curry tiger shrimp and clams, the pan seared scallops, beef bourguignon, and panna cotta.
Dinner with concert was fabulous, super memorable night. Very appreciative and warm audience. Music lovers and friends of the artists made it extra special. Food was very good, service was pleasant and quick. Will keep my eyes open for more events like this. Outstanding experience overall.
Sister augatha came to my table and blessed me with her holy spirit
Great food, fantastic service, and cozy atmosphere. We love coming here whenever were in Pasadena. The surrounding area is really changing with more trendy restaurant and shops.
One of my go-to spots to grab some food. very good location, well kept, and fantastic customer service. 5 stars!
Waitress were great, the food? So so. For what we got it (this restaurant) was over priced. The cheese and bread plate we ordered was splendid! We survived.
Best ever tonight. Weve been coming since Claude opened. We were fans of his earlier place. Love the resurrection of the concept of a menu one night each week along a theme. Kentucky was just great. Looking forward to Oaxaca to next month.
The only thing better than the food was the service. I went in with a friend to celebrate our birthdays. We were waited on by Paige, who was really delightful. We didnt like the table we were first given, but the manager, Brandon, was truly gracious. When it opened up, he moved us to a two top in the corner. It turned out to be the best table in the restaurant. The owner came over and greeted us. He was low key and welcoming. We started with the crab cakes which were very good. Three good sized cakes came on the plate - plenty enough to share - with Asian slaw and a lightly spicy remoulade. The cakes were fresh and light, with the outside fried to a delicate crisp. Pretty much perfection. For the main course, I had the sea scallops with polenta and a truly tasty caramelized onion. The presentation was lovely, the taste was even better. This was paired with a glass of the 2018 Godello, which was light, crisp, golden, and surprisingly delicious. They gave us a complementary birthday dessert of flourless chocolate cake with dolce de leche ice cream. Also delicious.Overall a 5 star experience. Thank you, Claude. Ill be returning to this little culinary gem.
Great dinner stageside to the Rickey Woodard Quartet! Amazing evening with straight ahead Jazz in the purest sense! Every note and beat brilliant!
Excellent selection of wines although not much in the way of by the glass, but very limited menu and the duck breast that I had was very salty which was seriously disappointing
Every meal Ive had here has been delicious. I love their seasonal menu. I love the vibe of the place - exposed brick walls with a long view to the kitchen. In the summer, their outdoor patio is just right as the evenings cool down. Their concert nights are great -- very high quality (and often unsung) talent. But Ill come any night for the food.
Amazing venue. Great food paired with great music paired with great wine
So after my 4-star outing here the prior month for the inaugural First Wednesday -- the name of the event for the lovely and very talented Nina Lares and her stellar jazz band -- I came back for the second of her events. I made a reservation for 6:30 even though I didnt think I would need it (which I didnt as there was only 1 other table with customers) and checked in with the pleasant hostess about 6:25. She seated me and the bus boy came over about a minute later with ice water. I told him I was the only person at the table so he wouldnt waste a second glass and waited for the server. And waited. And waited. After about 7 or 8 minutes the very tall male waiter walked into the room (actually all 1 room seperated by draperies), stopped about 15 away, looked right at me, then turned and walked out. I made eye contact several times with the female server in the other part of the room as she was back and forth waiting on her table, still the only other one with customers in the entire place that I could see. So he would not think I was waiting for a 2nd person, I even hid the other menu, but to no avail. The male server walked back in about 5 minutes later and again stopped at the entrance to my section. I was tempted to beckon him over, but since I should not have to do that, have never had to do that before in my long life, and by now was curious just how long they were going to ignore me, I just looked at him. He looked at me and again turned and walked away. I was going to wait for 20 minutes before leaving but I was starving and the longer they ignored me the madder I got and the less I wanted to give them any money and the less I would have enjoyed the wonderful music so left after about 17 or 18 minutes. I apologized to the trio for leaving and was going to say something to an employee on the way out, but there was nobody to be found. No hostess, no server, no bartender, no manager. So I just walked out, vowing never to return there or go to either of the award-winning chefs other 2 Pasadena restaurants. Makes no difference how good his food his, if the staff (other than the busboy, who also came back to refill my water glass) cant be bothered to wait on customers, its a moot point. But rather than just complaining, I always like to offer suggestions to fix their problems, so here it is: have the waiter and busboy trade jobs. P.S. -- So you do not miss Nina and her wonderful musicians, my suggestion for you is to show up on the first Wednesday of the month and just have a drink or 2 while you enjoy the excellent music. (But walk to the bar to get it yourself). P.P.S. -- So I then went to a different restaurant and told the hostess what had just occurred. She replied, Thats terrible! The rule of thumb is that a server goes over within 1 minute, 2 at the most. Which really puts my experience in persepective. P.P.P.S. -- I did a short Facebook post at my subsequent dinner with a brief blurb about my issue with Bacchus and here is what a friend posted in reply: They lost our reservation for an anniversary celebration for a group and then said that they would make good later and screwed us again! So its very obviously not just me. No wonder there was only 1 table with customers. As a further indication the issue is with Bacchus, the next place I went to a short drive away was so packed I couldnt get in, and the place I wound up at was very busy, too.
Ive been here multiple times and have always enjoyed the food and the service. But this time, while trying to have a romantic conversation, I realized that the room is just too damned loud. I went to the restroom and came back to find a drunken guy, from the loud party at the next table, hitting on my date. I dont need to pay top dollar for an experience like this. I will look elsewhere.
We were here for a wine dinner. We got the time wrong we were an hour early, a few others got the incorrect time as well. The staff poured wine for us. They were all very friendly. The food they paired with the wine at the dinner was delicious and so well paired. They have a sommelier apparently so that if we went back for a non winery dinner, we could have a great experience
Great food. Fun atmosphere. My main complaint and hence the 4 stars is that it is super loud! Really hard to hear conversations when tables are all filled.
Pozole Verde was on point. Wine selection wasnt overwhelming. People were super nice. And a patio! Like, seriously, just right.
Went on a whim, when other places wait was too long. Nice atmosphere and excellent food. Reservations recommended to get a table in the main dining room.
Delicious food and wine, pared with the best jazz musicians around. A perfect evening out.
This the best food, service and relaxing. Place
This place is within walking distance of my house, which is great! Everything Ive had here has been delicious, but the charcuterie plate is definitely notable. Also, they wave the corkage fee on bottles of wine that are 10+ years old.
Excellent food...great and friendly staff...nice ambience...will definitely be back...would recommend Bacchus to my family and friends!
Food is amazing and staff is superb.
My husband and I celebrated our 20th anniversary at Bacchus Kitchen after a recommendation from our pastor. We tried two of the specials and couldn’t have been happier! We also had the Creme Brûlée and the French pressed coffee to make the evening just perfect! We plan to return and recommend it to anyone looking for fine food and creative menus!Linda & Bob
Excellent food and service we were here for a wine dinner
Great local spot. Very relaxing and spacious. Staff was incredible with service and always attentive. Had the truffle pasta as appetizer it was incredible. Highly recommend. The parmesan cheese plate was great with the crispy toasts. Watermelon poke was exceptional and totally unexpected. Will definitely recommend that one.All four in our party had a different meal and we all raved about it. Scallops, duck, Waygu steak, fish.We will definitely return and make this local a frequent got to.
First time here for a birthday. Used to go to the eatery and then tap and kitchen until they closed. The guy who served us was top notch. The food was universal very good, though, at all of claud betrans places, its just a little too salty. The room is very loud though and conversations were not as easy as they could have been, though that would take a bit of a redesign to fix.
Very cool dining spot up in the bungalow district of Pasadena. Small eclectic wine list to go along with the excellent, lively menu.
Food, atmosphere and service were beyond excellent!
Great food, great entertainment, I will return with my whole family again.
Bacchus Kitchen is a great neighborhood bistro. Great food and attentive service. Sit outside on the pleasant, quiet terrace.
Friendly servers and a well-prepared revolving menu. Sister restaurant to the Eatery located five minutes from this location. The outdoor space and the parking lot are big pluses, as are the regular jazz nights!
My wife and I were very excited to come here based the reviews and reputation. We were disappointed. The menu reads intriguing, but lacks execution. Simply put, looks pretty, tastes bland. We really wanted to like this place. Such a shame...
Great food, imaginative chef, tasty live music on some Mondays.
Beautiful ambiance, delicious quality food, great service and easy parking.
Excellent BBQ Ribs special, ambiance and service.
Usually very good, on my last visit the food was less than satisfactory
Had a nice relaxing meal here on Valentines day. Everything was delicious, and they had many cute touches, including a heartbeet salad (with beets cut into the shape of hearts) and sauces on the entree plates made into heart shapes. The inside is a bit noisy and echoy, but the outside seating was very pleasant.
Trendy dining. Chef Claude and Co. do a great job. Live music on select weekends.
Staff is always very attentive, menu is excellent. Love it here!
Good food. Spacious seating. Great atmosphere.
A lovely little restaurant, the wait staff was knowledgeable and attentive, my crab risotto while delicious was a tiny bit underseasoned. But I will definitely return to try some of the other dishes on the menu that looked intriguing!
Excellent service
Good food
Great service, excellent cuisine. Oysters were really nice, foie gras was excellent as were the scallops and the octopus. Highly recommended, well worth visiting.
Fantastic modern American food, knowledgeable staff, tasteful decor. Would recommend a reservation as it can get busy.
Delicious.
Good french Cali fusion food, great wine list, nice decor, friendly staff, will go back
Loved the atmosphere.
