This was my 3rd time going there and every time, every quilt is different. The layout of their quilts are laid professionally with great lighting. They designed it like a museum but all in quilts! Well worth the visit if you need inspiration, a push in what you want to do next and to learn more about our community such as people telling their stories through quilt and awareness like endangered animals. Many quilts are just amazing and some were simple. The museum shows a variety of skill levels and even my husband enjoyed his visit!
I’m not a quilter but really enjoyed my experience. Judith, one of the volunteers, was very knowledgeable and passionate about sharing technical expertise. She entertained my enormous amount of questions without hesitation. She was very engaging and a delight. The young lady in the gift shop was super sweet as well as the front desk worker who was very welcoming. The quilts were beautiful and these contributions are worth the visit. A really nice day trip.
The quilt were interesting, with lots of details in each one. However, I wanted to see old quilts, with designs that I am familiar with. All of the quilts here were made after 1980 and were modern art. Not what I was looking for. Also the admission was $12 eachI thought that was a little high for what they had. Very disappointed in the whole thing.
Quilting is an exciting medium: like in videogames, the work being done today is better than anything thats come before. In both cases, this is driven partially by the availability of better hardware, and partially by better exchange of information among a growing community of practitioners. It is where painting was during the Renaissance. The NQM likely has the best collection of quilts in the United States, with a particularly strong selection of contemporary work. A must-see for anyone interested in how visual art is practiced today.
Always something fresh and new when I stop by the quilt museum. The art on display (quilts, duh) is mind-blowing! Not Grandmas quilts, but an ever-changing collection of contemporary works. Pretty great gift shop, too. Dont miss it.
Has lots of masterfully crafted quilts of all sizes displayed and some has a theme. the worker was very helpful & pleasant and knew about the quilts. However not sure it should be called a museum as i did not see any old or antique quilts, should be called a Quilt Craft Art Gallery as all the quills are works of art.
This facility is beyond BEAUTIFUL. The intricate details of the quilts, pieces of art, are amazing. This museum is a must see regardless if you are an avid quilter or not. The talent of the artists that are portrayed is unlike anything I have experienced.
I surprised myself. Im not a Quilter, but had the opportunity to see a number of amazing quilts. The detail within each quilt, the time necessary to complete each quilt and the planning involved to make each quilt was within the range of genius.Should you ever find yourself in Paducah, Kentucky, youll find some real art at the National Quilt Museum.
Next time near Paducah, Ky take an hour and explore the place many many hours of work put into the various quilts on display.
Fantastic quilts, not just traditional, had a big endangered species display and a civil rights display. Really enjoyed it. Gift shop was nice too
Very disappointed that this National quilt museum is only exhibiting modern quilts, 1980 and newer, is what they told me. Historic quilts did not make the cut. Even their store had no publications on early quilts.Should be renamed something like: Modern Textile Art.Antique quilt enthusiasts will be left wanting.
Interesting exhibits. Friendly museum associates. Worth checking out.
Very cool quilts. Especially, the wooden replica of a quilt. My wife loved it.
Beautiful art, fairly priced gift shop, knowledgeable staff
This place is fantastic. Its really a art museum. What these quilters do is awesome.
I took my grandmother to this museum as she has always wanted to go visit. I went expecting that this museum would be something that only my grandmother would like and my brother and I would just have to suffer through for her sake. I was pleasantly surprised that that wasnt the case. The quilts inside the museum were not like any quilts that Ive ever seen before. They were more like works of art. The different styles, colors, and sizes were amazing. The kind of care and love that were put into each quilt by their artist clearly shows. I am not a quilter or quilt person but I really enjoyed this museum! I would recommend this museum for quilters and non-quilters alike. Its definitely something to see if you are in the area.(I know there wasnt any photography or videos allowed in the museum but I couldnt help but snapping off a few shots. I have included them with my review. I hope the artists can understand that I only took the pictures to highlight their works and attract more visitors to the museum.)
I was hoping for a little quilting history but it was all modern art quilts. A little on the small size for the price, but its nice.
Fabulous place to visit with the whole family. I have been there many times. Whenever I have a chance I take my family or friends there. A must see.
This museum has beautiful works of art featuring artists from all over the world. Even my 5 year old great nephew enjoyed seeing the quilts. I had no idea that quilting could be so beautiful!
Finally made it in for a visit. The artist that are on display are amazing. Rotating special exhibits so keep an eye on schemes for new things to see.
Very respectful staff members. Their welcoming felt sincere. The museum of quilts were beautiful. You are allowed to leave and return the same day if you need a lunch break. Very educational.
Did the tour of place to get out of the heat. Amazing detail and intricacies on the pieces. Definitely worth checking out. 30-45 minutes to see all of the exhibits
I love it here. Everyone was so friendly and inviting. We took a tour that was helpful to explain the quilts in a way we would understand. My mom quilts a lot and was even able to help out with names of certain things every so often. Also you can visit this place more than one time and it will never be the same. They change the quilts out.
The curator was knowledgeable I enjoyed seeing the new quilts..I would have liked to see some older quilt patterns though
These are not your average quilts! It’s really an art museum. I cannot imagine the skill it takes to design and make one of these quilts. I loved it and my teenage son didn’t hate it.
High quality pieces of art. So incredible the effort and craftsmanship. Will definitely return in the future. Had a lovely time.
Great place to visit even if quilting isnt your thing! This was actually my husbands idea because he had seen the sign for it as we were driving! When I looked up pictures it looked really neat so we made time to check it out! We are so glad we stopped because it was amazing! Lots of beautiful creations and bright colors! If you enjoy art in general, this is a great place to check out. We were in awe at the fine details and creativity in each quilt. They even had one made from wood in a seperate room! Very fascinating! They let you take pictures, just no flash photography!
Its really an art gallery of quilts. Works of art unlike you have ever seen before. We took the guided tour. The first piece was made out of carved and painted balsam wood to look like a quilt. Many other examples of the finest craftsmanship from all over the world.Take a look at their website. Its not just sewing it is art.
Amazing! Beautiful contemporary quilts all are works of art in their own right. I could spend many pleasant hours here admiring the detail and talent embodied in this collection.
I absolutely loved site seeing, looking at all the beautiful quilts and shops in town.
The Most Beautiful Quilts At One Location On Display
I am not a quilter, but my wife is. It was her idea to visit the museum. The quilts displayed showed the talents of many people and covered a wide variety of designs. The one i found most interesting had signatures of famous people from my life including presidents and their wives, actors, scientists, musicians, astronauts, and others. Even our grandchildren enjoyed seeing the various quilts and selecting their favorites. The gift shop was also popular with them.
It is nice but not exactly what my wife expected. We spent about 30 minutes here. We drove from Chattanooga to see it. You can not take photos of anything in the interior. Photographing will not hurt the quilts so I am not sure why you cant. They on have new quilts on display though most were fantastic I think they need to have some antique quilts also.
We were greeted by a delightful lady and handed over to Ruth. Ruth provided an outstanding tour and shared her knowledge as well as answered a tremendous number of questions. It was wonderful. The museum was not crowded and we were not rushed.
Fantastic and lots of info. Worth making this part of your trip through this area.
Cause QUILTS!!!this exhibit is amazing, what a surprise, who knew quilting was so effin cool... The process... Yeilds results...
Beautiful quilts adorn the walls of this museum. Some very old with historical or meaningful significance. Some are past winners from our National American Quilters Society Show and Contest. A great place to bring a family or a group; small or large for a visit. They have a nominal fee to tour the museum. Do plan to stay for some time to take in all the quilts and great history behind them!
Truly enjoyable experience, would recommend it for anyone interested in folk art of any kind. The workmanship is something to experience. Do spend the few extra dollars for the guided tour.
This is a fascinating and artistic approach to quilting. We loved it! The fee to get in was reasonable. There are student discounts, too. The staff are knowledgeable and pleasant. I would visit again.
If you love art, not just quilts this is a great visit. Very interesting, educational and creative collection of quilts and other art forms.
Very Beautiful. Some of the quilts look like they are 4D coming right out at you. Works of art no doubt. My 2 boys ages 6 and 10 even appreciated the wow factor. I think each month has a theme such as when we went it was food culture. One of the quilts was of a little girl on the beach with the ocean water near her feet in the wet sand and she was collecting shells in the tail of her white sundress dress. Each room is a different style such as heritage, past winners, native American, galaxy.....Worth the trip. The museum in near the river in the arts and craft district so lots to shop, eat, read, Carson Center,Martine museum history, horse and carriage rides etc..
Just stopped to see if worth it on a future trip. Probably will be when out great country recovers from the communist attempt takeover. Not wearing a mask to look at beautiful quilts.
I hate to be negative about any place promoting the arts but strictly from an aesthetics standpoint this was very underwhelming. Most of the designs were traditional geometric patterns with a high degree of symmetry. There were no particularly innovative variations on this. Some artists tried to mix it up with gaudy colors but that didnt really work IMHO. Then there were forays into realism and they were quite awful-- sentimental cliches. One quilt was a portrait of four smiling dogs. There was one single solitary quilt that seemed fresh and appealing and that was the one based microscope observations of cells. There were a few others that were getting there but didnt quite break the mold. Of course approxim2/3 of the museum was visiting exhibitions.
Even if you dont know much about quilt but just curious, this is a great museum to see some of the best and most creative quilts out there.
An Awesome place to visit if you love quilting or art - the quilts are truly a masterpiece made of fabric.
Sweet people, beautiful works of art on these quilts.
This is a really amazing collection ...Loved it!
If you are in Paducah I definitely recommend coming here, it is really cool!
The displays were amazing. A mix of old and contemporary. The wooden quilt was awesome.
Wow! Amazing artwork and talent showcased here. Definitely worth a visit! No photography allowed inside the museum but everyone will enjoy!
FOR Quilters this is a must see! Anyone would be mesmerized by the expertise of the men and women who create such beautiful works of art!
Beautiful works of art in material. Hours of time spent to create lovely quilts and wall hangings. Worth the $11 entrance fee
Beautiful quilts. Very nice museum. Great gift shop. Friendly staff. Worth the entrace cost . Easy to spend hours in there.
Stopped in random since I was in town and thought heck why not. If you like Quilting then this is the place to go. Bigger then I thought and had a alot of different styles of Quilts. Make sure you check out the wooded Quilt in the Conference Room, its pretty unique and really life like.
My 99 yr old grandmother loved it! It meant so much to her to see all the beautiful quilts and everyone was so nice and she still quilts and could tell us how many things were done. Thank you for making her day so enjoyable.
Not a quilter, but had a great time stopping by here. Was expecting older traditional quilts, but was blown away at the quilts on display. They were like painting and done remarkably well. Would recommend.
Great large quilt exhibit
The quilts in the museum are works of art. Beautiful.
This place was awesome. Ive known that quilts take skill, but this place really drove home the artistic aspect.
This isnt about your grandmothers quilt. This is an art museum that happens to deal in fabric arts that are quilted. It doesnt matter if you like quilts. You will be in awe of the artistry and craftsmanship. I loved the Gees Bend Quilts I saw years ago somewhere else and expected more of the same. This is very different. Go. Just go.
Its an amazing art form created by women, men and children displaying from around the world.
If you enjoy quilts or quilting this museum is truly a wonderful place. They have many quilts on display. There are various traveling quilt exhibitions that are shown at the gallery too! The range of quilts is amazing. Guided tours are available for an extra charge over the price of regular admission. The staff is very nice, friendly, and knowledgeable. Well worth a visit.
An enriching museum for quilters and those interested in artistic expression. There were three distinct exhibits. The traditional quilts were lovely but I found myself captivated by the other two exhibits. Students from around the country had blocks on display that were charming, thought provoking, entertaining, and in some instances, very moving.Another exhibit focused on women and their accomplishments. I could have spent another entire day reading the stories of these women and viewing the ways in which the artists portrayed them.
Beautiful works of art!
I wasnt thrilled when the wife said we were going to stop here on vacation. However I was really impressed with the quilts that they had displayed. They were like works of art. They were not your grandmothers quilt. One quilt had the feature that you had to view it through your phones camera to see the design. There is another quilt that was made out of Basswood. At 6 feet away, it look like a real quilt.
Unique art, I expected historical quilts and information on the history and evolution of quilting, however theres not much history at all but some amazingly crafted works of art on display that took my breath away. If in the area I highly recommend a visit!
Walking from the parking lot to the front door I could tell the staff takes pride in this museum. The guided tour staff was very knowledgable and passionate about each quilt maker and quilt. The gift shop is nicely organized with an appropriate amount of art, gifts, and memorabilia.
Heres just a few photos that I took. These are the ones that caught my eye the most. If you are a museum enthusiasts I highly suggest stop by and look around.
This place is like a fine museum, only quilts. A little pricey to get in but worth it
We visited here when we were visiting Paducah last week. The quilts in this museum are not regular quilts. These quilts are works of art. There is one that is so large that it would probably fit on three king beds. There are a group of quilts that look like squares until you look at them through your phone. One of these quilts looks like the Mona Lisa when viewed through your phones camera. It is really amazing. There also is a wooden quilt that can be viewed. When I first saw it I dis not think it possible to be wood but the artist created it creating a great illusion. It is great.
Nice place for a few hours rest on our trip south. The Mrs is a quilter so she saw how the obsessed quilters of the country spend their time. Some amazing works are displayed. Dont miss the wooden quilt in the conference room. We didnt realize it was made of wood until we read the display info. Only bad thing is you cant take pictures inside (artistic property) but there are a lot of pictures on the Interweb showing many of the quilts. Pictures are of the stainless glass windows in their conference room.
VERY friendly staff! There is something for everyone, even if you dont think quilting is interesting. I was very intrigued and impressed.
New quilts. Fabulous quality.
Not knowing exactly what to expect, I took my daughter because if her interest in the craft. It was actually very nice facilities and a nice time. I would have rated it higher overall if admission wasnt so expensive. The facilities and exhibits deserve a 5 star rate.
Amazing place if your into quilting. Friendly and helpful staff
Mind-Blowing Talent!!
Pretty cool place and great things at the gift shop.
Members of central Arkansas Quilts of Valor attended a presentation of Quilts to veterans at Paducah Quilt Museum today. it was the most touching, emotional and loving presentation I have ever had the honor to attend. Thanks Paducah!!!
My third visit here. First time that I was allowed to take photos. I found the exhibit featuring women was really good. So many were very real looking especially considering the medium. The artists chose a wide range of important women some very famous as well as individuals that inspired their personal lives. I also enjoyed the youth competition. Amazing what k4-grade 4can make. Each of the three age groups had many good quilts.
Amazing experience! I was doubtful (to say the least) about going to a quilt museum, but beauty and artistry completely won me over. There are some lovely sculptures outside that discusses the overlap between the Lewis and Clark expedition and local history. It cost $12 per adult to enter the main museum which may seem steep but it’s an expense that you won’t regret. These aren’t your grandma’s quilts. The variety, skill, and colors are breathtaking! Each quilt has an informative placard giving it’s name, creator and a little backstory. There is also a small gift shop and I would recommend getting the book about the museum so you can look at even more astonishing quilts.
This is quilt lovers heaven you have got to go there you will never be the same.
If you love quilts you will love this museum. I spent about 2 hours here on my way to St Louis. The quilts are displayed beautifully and there was plenty of room to get up close to them. The gift shop has fun quilt themed items as well as some precut fabrics and books.
If you like quilts, even if you dont, it is worth seeing. Some very impressive work. Not my first choice of things to see, but my wife is a quilter. Im glad I went.
Wonderful tribute to quilters. It is cheap to get in and takes about 2 hours to go through. The gift shop is nice.
I walked in it was immediately welcomed. And then I went into the gallery and was greeted by I volunteer guide who knew so much more than I did about quilting. After a thousand pictures, many smiles and picking my jaw up off of the floor at the wonder of this art form, I know that I will hit this Museum everytime I come into the area.
It is so amazing what quilters are capable of. It was a great bit of history and art. Well worth a visit
The quilts on display were absolutely beautiful and incredible. I could not however go through the entire museum because of the lighting. The lights were flickering throughout the museum and unfortunately this caused a migraine. I was disappointed that I couldnt view the entire museum display.
The quilts are beautiful. The folks that work there are dedicated, friendly, and helpful. They periodically change the quilts so it is a new visual treat several times a year. My mother in law was into quilting, so my wife and granddaughter love going there. The shops and restaurants nearby let us make a day of it as a half day side trip.
Just a sample of hundreds of quilts. More elaborate than you have ever seen! Unusual for me to accompany my wife to such a place but was impressed!!
I think the place is fantastic it show quilts from many states, so much work has gone into the quilts and its just amazing to see the details, stop by if you get a chance.
Whether you are interested in the art of the finished quilts, or the skill of the quilters, you will be awed and inspired here! How about a wooden quilt? Or a quilt that you look at through 3-D glasses? Pieced, painted, appliquéd, machine or hand-quilted...they have them all!
My friends and I love going to the quilt museum. It is even more fun when you gamble on who is going to win. I recall last year when my buddy bet on the heavyweight champion Sheryl with -600 odds. However I took a risk and bet on Phyliss with +500 odds and she took home the belt. There is nothing like a Saturday in Paducah, drinking two four lokos and going to the quilt museum. Before this experience I was not sure of a higher power, but after this out of body experience I can confirm there is a God. Trust me I saw him and he loves gold four lokos.
Bucket list for sure. Dont miss their awesome display of quilts.
Incredible quilting, knowledgeable staff. Easy to find.
Really cool place. Its a shame i couldnt take pics (not allowed). Quilting is an art and the artwork in there was AMAZING!
Really spectacular if you appreciate any kind of art, but utterly phenomenal if you know anything about quilts. This was well worth the 2 hour drive each way we made on our vacation to Kentucky.
I gave it 5 stars because I couldnt give it more. Even the most blase person will be amazed. Its like the Louvre in quilt form.
