Currently the campground is open on limited day-to-day basis, depending on weather and camp conditions. Half the camp remains flooded by the Estuary. We decided to try this campground out over NYE weekend at the last minute and there were plenty of open spots. We got a great site! Sites are spacious and you can hear the waves all night long. Fires in fire pit were allowed, there are showers in the restrooms and restrooms were clean and had good time paper! Lol enjoyed watching the docks and walking around the camp, but the beach was the best. Just a few steps over the sand dunes and you have a private like beach! Will definitely be back.
Returned to McGrath for 5 days in July 2018, had a great time. Campground & facilities were clean. I went on a Thursday around 1:30pm to get a spot and drop off the trailer, there were only 10 spots left, I took site #1. I left to pick up a few things and when I got back the campground was full. It stayed that way until Sunday afternoon.Stayed here November 3rd thru 6th 2017. Really is a great campground, Ill keep going back as long as it stays open.
Ive lived in the area for years but never been to this campsite. Camped there for the first time and was surprised how nice it was. Although there are not a lot of trees with many of the sites, they are pretty open and have some nice firepits. The area near the sand dunes is beautiful this time of year.
Years ago loved it
35$ a night typical camping rates. Close to nearly private beaches. We got here late, around 1:30 on a Saturday and there was still around 10 spots to choose from. Theres clean flushing toilets and hot showers for 50 cents for 2 minutes. So far so good. Theres a ton of dumpsters close by so for us, that was a plus. No bugs or scary wildlife to worry about. The neighbors were friendly and all felt safe. Overall, I really liked this campground. Mostly it was because of how clean the bathrooms were. They get a daily cleaning at around 6am and smell like bleach. Only thing that was a negative was there was no water spickets to get washing water for dishes. Otherwise a very cool place to camp.
Park is back open, and I stayed here for several nights. The camps hosts are great people and they do a great job keeping the vagrants and bums out of the campground. The rangers frequently patrol and are great too. The hosts and rangers all do their best to make the campground safe and family friendly.
Still close. It has been a while since the flood. Just wondering why they cannot just open partially and close the area where damaged. I looked through gate and fence and saw there is no land with mud covering it.
You have to like the outdoors for this one and be prepared for ants but we had a nice little spot had a great time and it was peaceful friendly people and friendly staff really enjoyed ourselves
$35 a night seemed a bit much considering, no power, water, or septic hook ups. The septic dump is permanently closed, the beach was pretty far, no grass, (our dog rolled on the ground like he does and instantly covered in little round stickers. Im still trying to get them out. But they can charge what ever they want because Oxnard and Ventura County probably the most RV Unfriendly place I have ever been. I will NEVER go near that area again.
It was ok .. very primative! 60% of the campground was not kept up, only 1 bathroom was available. I heard no beach waves as youd expect, only the LOUD highway cars ALL NIGHT!!Theres no beach swimming or wading because of riptides. There IS a table (broken as it was) and a firepit at each site.THE RANGER WAS A JERK, and had the personality of an eel.. I wont be doing this campsite again!!
It seems that it is not safe enough. lack of lighting and guards after 10:00 pm causes that everyone can enter the campgroud. I saw strange people come and take a shower and then they leave. otherwise a great place. The view spoils a bit of the nearby heavy industry.
I love camping here. i love camping. the problem here is the park rangers/police come here at least twice a day and treat you as if you are a crominal. they are rude and very mean. they check all they can on each person and ask about your record ask if your on probation or ever been arrested. they came today saying they were going to kick me out because i had orange peels and popcorn seeds all over. they said i had 20 min. to clean it or i must leave with no refund. they take the fun out of camping here. its a shame they are such jerks..(REVISION) Read ASAP!!I USED to love to come here. The beach and campsites are good. But over manicured. I have been adding pictures and pushing for new campers for what? I went 4 days ago to pick a spot. I go every payday... I was taking pictures and was stopped by the park rangers who where more than violently mean pushy and abusive. They spoke to me as if I was dirt and called me a liar after anything I said. They accused me of being on drugs and arrested me. I DO NOT DO Drugs nor do I lie. I will absolutely NEVER go there or advise any normal human being to go. I wish I had NEVER taken the pics. The treat every camper this way. They interrogate you and yell at you for nothing. They will kick you out and NOT refund your unused days. Go at your own risk
Unsanitary conditions and unfriendly camp hosts make the few people that unknowingly choose to visit this particular spot extremely uncomfortable and unwelcome. I wouldnt recommend anyone consider visiting here until many major risks to the park and its potential guests are rectified!
It was Awesome! The Camp Hosts were spectacular. Took care of every detail. Have to give extra cudos to the camp host in spot 34! They made the visit super specail.
This is a state run campground. The overnight fee is currently $35. Portions of this campground still remain closed due to weather damage and dis-repair. I only saw sites with no hook ups. There were a couple of trailers and RVs but mostly tents. The entire campground is in rough shape but its still a great location for camping near the beach. Its less than a 1/4 mile walk from the campground to the beach. Fyi, signs posted state no dogs allowed on the beach. The beach is nice and clean and you get a great view of the coastline. They have plenty of camp sites to choose from and many have shade, trees, and/or bush. Most sites have a single table and a fire pit. There are a couple buildings containing bathrooms however I did not use them and I am unsure of their condition. Thanks for reading my review and enjoy the beach!
Easiest path to get some of the VC water lab water samples.
So happy this beach campground is open again visited my daughter theyre nice spots not too far of a little walk to the beach
The staff was very friendly. You cannot reserve a spot and the sites do not have hook-ups. Also, the dump station is closed. There was no security after 10 pm to control the noise and we had people partying next to us in the the early morning. Not a great place to bring a family. The camp ground is neglected and needs renovations.
Great place for your family time, close to shopping centers in case you forgot something (as usual lol) nice beach, and awesome bird sounds in the morning! Go for it!
I just went camping at McGrath and absolutely loved it! Our campground host Ralph and his wife Debbie were super friendly and helpful. The park rangers also did an excellent job of keeping everyone safe and happy. I loved hanging out with friends, strolling along the beach, and making smores! I highly recommend visiting this campground!
I love CAMPING HERE AT MCGRATH STATE BEACH THEY HAVE SHOWERS AND REGULAR FLUSHING TOILETS !!! And your only a couple yards from the beach. I have been coming here for years . love It!!!!!
Needs maintenance but still a very beautiful spot to camp.
Awesome place to camp with people who dont like to rough it
Like all California parks you pay more than anyplace else and get nothing for the money. No hookups, baths were closed and they would only accept cash or check for 1 day at a time. Park on the streets for free.
This place is strange and beautiful with epic beach dunes. The bathrooms were closed and portapotties provided when we were there. Seems like a lot of RV traffic and not many tents like us.
A decent spot to camp right on the beach, however shade is very limited. No reservations, first come, first serve only.
The park is great and the hosts are very friendly.
GREAT VENTURA COUNTY CAMPING DESTINATION
We had a great time! The park was very clean and staff were very friendly!
Yes I love this place is a great place for camping on the beach
Love camping here
Reopened after 2 years due to flooding. First come first serve with no online registrations. Don’t bother trying to call. No one answers.1. $35 a night and $10 extra per car. Only 2 cars allowed per campsite and no overflow available so if you have more than 2 cars you have to park offsite.2. Female bathrooms were ok except the showers. Cold water is free but the hot water in the bathrooms didn’t work when I inserted $0.25 per 2 min. No change machine.3. Beach is lovely except the father you go out the more rocky it is. I’m talking rocks that are at least a few inches big after going in waste deep. Hurt my feet.4. I got TAR on my feet and arms after being in the water only 5min. Sooo hard to get off. 5. Nice weather and the people and host were very nice.
Peaceful. The staff is anazing!
Peace full view of the seas.
Beautiful beach and great camp hosts!
Great beach, but the camp is in Shambles and over priced
Nice spot to get away

I think its so cool the beach has my last name in it
Happy its open!
First come first serve at this campground. There are a lot of spots to choose from: lots with open fields behind you (there is some ocean winds) vs lots with trees as barriers.RVs okay.Just bring a large trash bag to throw out your trash, cant leave it in the fire pits
Love watching the sunsets
