Very much geared to elementary school age children and younger. My 4 year old nephew loved the Discovery area. It was interesting and nicely set out. Location while good is a little hidden.
Small museum, but the discovery room made up for it. The kids and adults loved it. There are so many things to do in there and the kids loved seeing the animals, and then feeling the pelts. The main fun thing for me was the earthquake simulation, and the bone digging!
A small museum, but one that punches above its weight. The Discovery Room in particular is basically heaven for a younger kid whos curious about science and the world. My son and daughter (6 and 4, respectively) are still talking about it a month after we visited.
Was not bad. Although I did not like being stopped at door over wearing masks, which I and my kids had, saying you cant come in without them (again confusion, since we HAD them) my husband left his in car so he wasnt coming in. Anyway when we went into the dinosaur room there was a whole family of a different color of about 5 or so members who wow surprisingly were not wearing masks at all but we were almost harassed about it even though we had them. This was on Sat. 7/4 near closing time with some girl and boy working. You know who you are. You need sensitivity training. I was not upset about the rule of wearing masks, you have to be living under a rock to not know that they are required, I was upset because of the way we were approached about the rule which we were already complying with. It seemed like we werent welcome. And yes we are black and the family not wearing the masks were not.
Not a bad little museum. Its certainly in about the most random location Ive ever seen, but its just funny, thats all. Big and bright, obviously its a beautiful building, and the amazing T-Rex right inside the entrance is absolutely stunning. We went specifically for the Liberty capsule exhibit which was awesome, although quite a bit smaller than I was hoping for, but thats just my opinion. All in all the museum seems geared more towards children, and thats fine, as Ill be keeping my eye on the upcoming exhibits. For 10 bucks, Id say its totally worth it.
The museum is a beautiful facility! The windows, the lighting, the outdoor scenery -- gorgeous! The Discovery Center upstairs is pretty neat, but better for older kids (kids who can read some on their own). Wish the museum was a little more interactive for the grownups (although I was toting three little boys, so I may have missed a few things!) The Dinosaur Alive experience is pretty awesome! Overall a good visit and Im glad we went!
If there was more than 5 stars, I would give it. This is a hidden jewel for sure! 2 VR experiences with no extra cost! Amazing pre-dinosaur exhibit with moving dinosaurs! Also create a dinosaur that will then show up on the big screen with you! Have never seen anything like it! Apollo artifacts and exhibits. Hands on Discovery area - just as fun for grown-ups as kids! So reasonably priced - $10 adults, $5 kids and we spent almost 4 hours there!
Gorgeous building, but doesnt necessarily have a TON of things to explore inside of it right now (Im assuming covid is influencing this) It is very informative and has a massive skeleton so that is also pretty cool.It also has nicely kept paths that can be walked.
Awesome museum! Virtual reality experience of a space station, wonderful exhibits that teach in engaging, clear, very exciting and fun ways, beautiful art and displays. Also, the interactive part for the kids upstairs featured lots of puzzle-style exploring (like the dino skeleton in the picture!), live animals (including hissing cockroaches you can hold), a mask collection, and so much more. Plus, staff is friendly and great. Go enjoy!
Was disappointed with this museum. I had heard such great things about it. The building is really pretty. The building is very clean. I think that the fish exhibit is scary for little kids. It was really weird as an adult. I would see what the exhibit is before taking younger children. It is a self guided tour. The museum is a little smaller than I thought it would be.
We dont have kids but a friend of ours from out of town wanted to check it out. Decent exhibits, for 5 bucks per person, I guess you cant beat it. Would recommend for kids and into dinosaurs and stuff like that. I personally wouldnt pay the 5 to go again.
Nice place for kids and adults. Beautiful building.
Had a fun afternoon here. I was able to get in free with a military ID. I think the prices are a little steep for the exhibits but my kids had a lot of fun and thats what matters. My youngest particularly enjoyed the play room...all the live animals and interactive activities held his attention. He did not want to leave. The 3D movie about space was cool too.
Good place, staff was friendly and helpful. Recommend!
Kids loved it lots to do. Hands on section was great for kids
We had an awesome tour guide for our group tour of prehistoric animals and she also showed us an area that displayed a shuttle from one of the first space missions from the early days of US space exploration! Then we went upstairs to a fun area for all ages to explore. There were lots of hands on activities upstairs like hats from early humans, putting together a dinosaur skeleton, smelling a moon rock, smelling tea from different areas, a dig site for kids to find dinosaur bones, and much more. There were also cute animals in the room (not for touching) like a chinchilla, poison dart frog, bearded lizards, a turtle, snakes, and more.
Great place for the family. Plenty of activities for adults and kids. We always learn something new with every visit.
What a cool place! The exhibits are really interesting, and the staff was very helpful. I would definitely go there again
My son was so excited to come for his birthday. We got here after visiting the website and knew what was closed. The exhibition hall was closed! No mention of this on the site. My son was so disappointed. We would have waited until it was finished, if we knew.
My children love this place. The membership is an excellent value if you plan on visiting more than once.. The events held here are awesome. The egg hunt and trick or treating are fun perks of being a member.
Very cool. My little guy had a lot of fun.
Absolutely beautiful! My kids loved the VR experience and Discovery Room (we spent a lot of time in there). There was a lot to explore and even more to learn about.
Love this place. TONS of hands on activity for all ages. My kids always have a great time.
Enjoyed the walk on their trail
This is a wonderful addition to any community. Its building is gorgeous and the exhibits very fun. The Stonehenge VR is very cool and having the Liberty 7 capsule is amazing. There are plenty of interactive exhibits for the little ones and some great local history. Definitely worth a trip and if youre familiar with Pogo Pass they are partners and you can see a lot of KC for very little money.
Awesome! Highly recommended. Great kids’ area upstairs.
Awesome natural history museum! Loved it! They had big moving interactive dinosaurs and some hands on exhibits upstairs. The building was very unique too especially in contrast to the surrounding landscape!
Great!!! Well presented. Worth the time. Very informative and great staff. The entomologist answered my sons questions very patiently.
Enjoyed everything will be back again for the trail outside when it warms up. Great for the dinosaur lover in the family. Also liked the exhibit on what KC looked like all those million of years ago. Sorry I didnt have my phone on me for photos.
What a cool place to explore! The featured exhibit was awesome as was the virtual reality volcano. The kids hands on area was a great place for kids to learn and play.
Great opportunity to learn more about the biggest dinosaurs. They present the structure bones, muscles, heart and talk about the theories of how they lived.Very educational. It was a little pricey for an exhibit that only takes an hour to walk through and read all the signs.
What a cool place! My toddler loved the discovery room...3 hrs of excavating, trying on masks, petting hissing cockroaches, watching insects and drawing constellations. Also getting to name your virtual dinosaur and meet it was pretty cool!
Perhaps the most colorful architecture in the entire Kansas City.
Kids loved the hands on activities and dinosaurs
This place is absolute beautiful! We were only there to take our fall family pictures with the amazing stained glass as a backdrop, but we will definitely be back many more times. Anyone looking for an amazing photo op or a beautiful backdrop for portraits, look no further! You will not be disappointed!
Nice place and location it was smaller than what I expected. It have very good activity for the kid if you go with them.
The Discovery Room was a fantastic experience for the kids. The virtual reality space station epic. We loved the animated dinosaurs and creating our own for the video display. Highly recommend!
We had the most amazing experience. Great price, 10.00 for everything. Extremely friendly staff. Bright, open, and clean. Interactive activities, the entire family enjoyed our visit.
Very small but very cool museum with a ton to do for kids. Hit the upstairs room for a ton of activities. Its a great Sunday afternoon activity.
Cool things I didnt know and has lots of kid activities!
Nice place. The dinosaur exhibition was just ok.
Nice open environment. There isnt much to do for adults but I think its more of a kids space and for the price you really cant beat it. The 2nd floor hands on area would be great for young learners.
Great time for a 3 yr old. Any kid older than 12 maybe not.
Really cool museum amazing place for a wedding. Ive covered weddings there as a photographer and its really unique and something you cant get anywhere else!
Great place for kids. Friendly staff
We had a great time. All of the exhibits were very interesting. Bring your children and grandchildren.
Great for young kids and absolutley hands on. We had a great time!
A good place to spend a few hours. Not a place you would spend a full day at. Nicely done exhibits and worth the admission price.
Great for kids. Theres lots of interactive options, especially for the 10-and-under crowd. Theyve done really well with the space they have, but you should know this is a small museum. Coming from Denver, which has a huge natural science museum, we were underwhelmed, but agreed that, if we had kids, we would defiitely be members. This is a museum you could take your kids to every week and theyd never get bored. As adults, we enjoyed the experience, but probably wont return often.
It is a nice facility. My kids had fun in the interactive area. For thr price, its a good way to spend a couple hours with your family.
I love the outside scenery perfect for photo shoots and inside have cool exhibits and hands on learning area for kids lots to see. Very affordable and clean
Fun interactive museum for kids of all ages. They have VR simulations, computer games, dinosaur sand pits where you can dig up a dino. They also have dino replicas to view. Overall a great place to visit and keep your kids entertained for a couple hours.
Its pretty small, but they have great exhibits.
Good place for children & adults
AMAZING.. SOMETHING FOR ALL AGES! I took my mom and kids, we all had something to be interested in.
Absolutely beautiful building on the outside with the dichromic glass. The colors change as the day progresses. After you stop admiring the outside of the building, you should go inside you has a really good exhibition on dinosaurs and the geology of the region.
Good stop for a quick outing with the family. Highly recommended for younger kids that are in their dinosaur phase! Lots of hands on things for the kids. The museum is small enough to get through in a day without feeling like you were rushed.
Not too expensive to explore the discovery area with the kids. Paleontology, astronomy, geology, invertebrate zoology, field biology and anthropology. The main area is of course free with the T rex.
Is not that big, is very clean and I think kids enjoy it the most!!!
My aunt from Chicago loved it and so did I.
Never went in, but the building itself is worth seeing. Also, there are some fun sculptures in the park space outside.
Very nice building. My kids really enjoyed the hands-on activities. I felt like the prices were reasonable and the staff was really friendly. There wasnt a ton for adults, IMHO. If you have kids, its great for them. For adults, its worth checking out the facility
Great museum. Staff was excellent. Kids love it. A must see in Johnson County.
The exterior architecture of this museum is a must see. Gorgeous technicolor that shines bright even on a cloudy day. Our grand-babies love to visit to enjoy special exhibits (they just had one on dinosaurs) and theres a hands on learning area on the second floor. We enjoyed the dinosaur exhibit. They had a great exhibit from New York on hand. We really loved the outside of the building.
Great fun for the entire family, new things around every corner & none stop fun. Will truly bring out the inner child in every adult... If not then nothing else will ever blow your mind
Small yet nice museum catering mainly to kids 3-12, although any age may enjoy. Reasonable entrance fee. Plan to spend an hour or two depending on the exhibits which change about every 6 months or extra activities that happen periodically
The architecture is AMAZING! It is the most beautiful building I have ever seen. The exhibits were outstanding and very interactive as well. The grandkids loved it!
Fascinating exhibits. Gorgeous exterior. Free stuff worth the trip, but pay to see the main exhibit anyway.
Beautiful place, exciting displays
Was very cool. The grandkids loved the things to touch and feel. The 3 d is very cool. Love that military families count here. A great place parking great. Staff very friendly.
I am a wedding planner and coordinated a wedding at the Museum at Prairiefire this past weekend. The staff was absolutely fantastic. Terri, Lori, and Jeff go above and beyond to help you in any way possible. I would HIGHLY recommend choosing this venue if you want a smooth and phenomenal wedding day!
Really cool place to spend a couple of hours learning about science!
I didnt get to see much of it but what I did see was free and interactive and informative. Is also a beautiful building.
My 15 month old loved the animatronic dinosaurs and discovery center. I have never seen her so engaged for so long at one time!
We had the whole family together for a field trip there. Every single person, from 75yr old to 7 yr old, thoroughly enjoyed it!
Celebrating the partnership of KidsTLC and Museum at Prairiefire! @kidstlc
The outside is gorgeous! The hands-on room is great fun and the virtual ride on the space shuttle was superb! The Apollo display was very informative.
Dinosaur activities were very enjoyed by the kids. The upstairs has a hands on area with lots to do!!
Super fun! A little small for the price (10 dollars) but definitely worth it!
This is a great get out of the house opportunity for the little ones. The size of this museum creates a long enough visit that is not too overwhelming. My 4 year old was very interested in the skeletons on the lower level. The top level has an activity area where the kids can learn. There are dinosaur puzzles, a dig pit, live animals, and much more. Expect to spend 1-1.5 hours here. The location is convenient. There are other things nearby to make this part of a day-trip.
The museum is nice, clean, and the staff is friendly. But the real reason Im giving them a 5 star rating is due the their military veteran program.I was about to pay for the ticket for myself and 3 girls, she saw a USAA card and asked if I was a veteran. When I said yes, I was expecting her to say there was a discount, instead she said my entire family got in free.Ive not seen a place do anything like that before. Very much appreciated! There is a donation box as you walk out, if you have the means, please donate!
Omg! This place is amazing. Great exhibits and fantastic staff. I urge you to go.
Thought this was a normal museum, but was confusing to figure out what the tickets included. Extremely expensive and we ended up leaving because they said there wasnt a whole lot my 4 yr. old could participate in. The gals working the desk made me feel uncomfortable with their snubby additude and reactions to my pricing questions. The building itself is beautiful.
I enjoy the exhibits and my son likes the discovery room! The vr experiences are cool too.
What they have is fantastic, they just dont have enough of it. Especially if youre older than ten. We spent less than two hours here and felt wed done everything. I hope theyre able to expand their offerings in the future.
The whole family had a great time here. Was very clean inside and the museum is beautiful.
Fascinating displays imaginatively shown excellent childrens area with knowledgeable and very friendly personnel
This was a fun, little museum to stop in to and get the kids interested in natural history. They enjoyed making their own dinosaurs to tromp across the big screen. The discovery room upstairs was also fun for my kids, with so many interactive exhibits. The VR room was another fun experience.
Fun place. It’s a bit small but worth going once in awhile. There are trails to walk right outside and shopping close by as well.
Nice museum. Geared mostly toward younger children. A lot of interactive opportunities for them to learn science. Good exhibit on dinosaurs with casts of dinosaur skeletons.
I had lots of fun with my family!!!
Very nice place spend a day with kids. Staff is very friendly. Great place for learning many things
Its ok, you see everything in a pretty short period
Not very many exhibits. Theres only about 15 minutes worth of things to look at, but the stuff they did have was interesting. Just wish they had more.
