This was the old King Louie and they have transformed it into an amazing Arts and Heritage building for Johnson County. I came here to vote but I will definitely bring my kids back to show them the history of Overland Park. They even have the Whitehaven Motel sign!

Such a wonderful museum! Loved learning the expansive history of Johnson County. They also do a good job addressing the negative aspects of the county’s history (Indian Removal Act, Housing Discrimination, etc.), as well as the positives.

LOVE LOVE LOVE this place! My friend and I took our little ones-a preschooler and 5th graders. They loved the 1950s house and cars and had a great time learning with hands on exhibits appropriate for their ages! I would love to work there because everyone was so pleasant and friendly and I love history! Next time I go back, no kids, so I can enjoy reading more of the history posted for adults. Great for all ages!

This place is remarkable. They have so much history there. I havent done the official tour yet. It is a pay tour, about 5 or 6 bucks. That is next on my list. It would be worth it just to browse the upstairs rooms.

The old King Louie West now sports a variety of items, primarily from the 1950’s and 1960’s when the area blossomed. My ninety year-old dad especially enjoyed the electric house, built in Prarie Village in 1954. Went to the Flu Pandemic presentation. They were giving away free flu shot and tell about the flu that hit the area in 1918. Very interesting. After that we toured the special exhibit on the Turbulent Twenties in the Johnson & Jackson county. Lots of items on exhibit and detailed information. The room for the special presentation was set-up so you could see and hear everything that was said. This facility is a wonderful showcase for Johnson County.

JoCo did a really nice job in converting King Louie into a museum and meeting center. Lots of close parking even for the largest of groups. The store room has abundant refrigerator and freezer space to accommodate large meetings to keep drinks cold until serving. The staff is very helpful, accommodating, and friendly. I particularly want to acknowledge and thank Joe Gray - we called on him a lot to assist us with setup, audio/video, and electrical. He was always very quick to respond and resolved our requests easily and quickly - and always with a very positive attitude... no matter how many times we called!

Love this place. Its always clean, the music is at a perfect level and I really enjoy the local art on display (and sale). I go several times a week to wrap up my work day. Couches have plug ins, I like the bar/ cocktail tables if I want to stand and work, the the table in the far back is one of the bowing alleys converted (plus outlets in it). Bathrooms have been spotless everytime I have been there.I have not been a guest at an event, or a hostess, so I have nothing to report on that.I have not gone in the museum, but have heard really great things.

The conversion of this former bowling alley and ice skating rink is amazing! The programming at the Center is vast! The JoCo history museum was a fun stroll through the past and included some iconic signs from my childhood. There is such a wide variety of programming available for pre-school aged to adults here, as well. I visited here for a networking event, and the space was great for this. They also had a theater which I didnt get to experience, but I did tour the museum space. The have a lot of fine and performing arts programming, art on display for purchase. What a great place for the community! Its pretty easily accessed as well, from either 435, 35, or 635. Check it out!

Be sure to check out the first all electric house in Johnson County that was moved from western Shawnee and is now inside the Arts Center. If youve ever had to explain to someone of a younger generation (Im only 45 guys!) what life was like before computers or smartphones, give up and come visit. Bring your parents along with the kids for a REALLY good time!

My first visit to the museum and kidscape today and I was underwhelmed with the entire experience. The museum and kidscape look about the same as it did in Shawnee, but now you have to pay for each adult and child over 1 years of age. The kidscape was busy and there was not enough stuff for all the kids to have an engaging play experience. The place was kind of crazy and many parents were sitting allowing their children to run around wild.I will add pictures to show how empty the play items were and how many people were there. On the positive the building and decor is beautiful. It would be a wonderful location to see a play or rent for a party/wedding.
