Our family stopped in on a Saturday afternoon. Admission is free to the museum, which is amazing! When we visited, there were two retired fire chiefs on duty volunteering to show us around. Our kids were given their own fire hats to wear and keep, and they were treated so nicely throughout the tour! There is a 1920s working fire truck on display, and the kids were encouraged to climb up on it so that we could take their picture, and they were allowed to ring the bell and pretend like they were driving. The volunteers were very knowledgeable due to their years of service, and were able to tell us a lot about the museum and the history of fire fighting. The building itself dates from the 1800s and was relocated to its current location from downtown by cutting it in half and moving it! Theres also a fire alarm that the kids could crank to create the sound. Great museum, well worth a visit!
Found this hidden gem while attending an event at the art museum....a quick walk through the theater and there is the fire museum.Free admission and you get a free patch!Volunteers run the museum and donations are welcome....Beautiful vintage trucks are parade ready and the firehouse is shown as originally operated in the early 1900s.Definitely worth 30 minutes the next time you are in the area.
A great place for kids who LOVE fire trucks. Lots to look at and some great photo ops sitting in an old fire truck!
My family and I loved our time here. We had one of the retired firefighters that works there give us a guided tour, he was very pleasant giving us all the details on everything being shown there. My kids got a firefighter hat and badge, they got to go on one if the old trucks a n.v d sit in the real beds were firefighters sleep. This is a fast and fun thing to do.
Excellent personal tour by retired fire fighters. Great restored fire trucks and stories of the progress of fire fighting. Parking was a real challenge.
This place is great! Would highly recommend it. The volunteers were very knowledgeable. The admission price is great, free! It is a small museum but you could easily spend an hour here. I would say most people will spend a half an hour though. Have fun!
