A rustic getaway right here in OKCIts right by the State Capitol. Bring a sack lunch; theres a place outdoors (picnic tables) to eat lunch after your tour. Its relaxing, youre amongst the trees, and you get to see houses from the land run era. Also... learn how they made rope, ground corn..and you learn Harn is next to the Capitol because, back in the day, the Harn homestead donated 40 acres so the Capitol could have a place to call home. Who knew?

Really neat place. A bunch of old buildings, log cabins, event barn for events. We are cleaning up the broken trees after the ice storm. Recommend checking it out if you are in Oklahoma City and need something free to do or a wide open space to hang out. Within view of the capital building.

Very lovely place to step back into time! I remember coming here as a child on a field trip and now as an adult with my homeschooled children. Very friendly staff. Knowledgeable on their history of the Harn family and the plantation. Recommend this for anyone. (Involves a lot of walking.)

The entire property is very large. It consists of a few homes, a large Barn, a pretty gazebo, a small school, and several beautiful metal sculptures scattered all around. We walked around and found everything very interesting – the original buildings, the furnishings, the artifacts, clear labeling, and informative placards. We were also impressed by the efforts of the Oklahoma City Historical Preservation Commission to preserve everything as nicely as possible.

This is a very interesting place especially since its located right in the heart of the state Capitol! All the buildings are from different parts of Oklahoma and have a story behind them. The staff is excellent and the school master plays his part exceedingly well! Children get to have a very small taste of what it would have been like to live in the 1900s. Definitely an experience all should have!

Just a few block south of the Oklahoma State Capitol steps sits a homestead own by the Harn family who actually donated the land for the Capitol building. Great old home and barns. Once a working farm right where it sits. Great venue for group outings and picnics. Beautiful well maintained grounds.

I am a third grade teacher in Edmond, and this was our first field trip to the Harn Homestead. Mr. Sapper was extremely easy to work with in scheduling, and then rescheduling our trip. Upon our arrival last week, Mr. Sapper greeted us as we entered the property. All of the rotations and timing were well organized for our large group. Students, parents, and teachers raved about the experience! We can’t wait to return next year! Thank you for a wonderful day!

I am a third grade teacher in OKC and we had the privilege of visiting Harn Homestead in mid April. Our experience was absolutely fantastic! As one can imagine, bringing 60 eight year olds on a field trip is an adventure in itself. The staff was wonderful! They did a fantastic job teaching our energetic students about the land run and Oklahoma history. They taught teamwork and compassion. Absolutely wonderful experience!

Check this place out if you want to learn about some of the history of Oklahoma. There are several historic buildings on the property and the story behind the house and the people who owned it is pretty interesting. Youll also find the surrey with a fringe on top from Oklahoma! in the barn. Their Territorial Christmas event is a lot of fun; my historic dance group has performed there a couple of times.

Each year my 2nd grade class from Dibble Elementary visits Harn Homestead. Our experience has always been amazing! We have done both the regular tour and the Land Run tour. I cant choose which one is my favorite. I have also visited with my family. Mr. Sapper has always been so amazing at answering all my emails and phone calls quickly and is always very kind. He never seems rushed though I know he has a full schedule. His tours are always full of energy (which is fantastic for my little people). He takes the time to answer their questions and speaks to them in a language they can understand. I so appreciate having him as our liaison. On our most recent visit Mr. Sapper could be seen on his hands and knees helping my little friends set up their first tent and smiling as if there was no place else hed rather be.When I visited with my family, Mr. Sapper took us on a personal tour of the main house and explained everything about its history in great detail. During our trip to the regular tour Mr. Sharp ( a man who volunteers his own time) did the history of the school house tour. He was so amazing! The kids genuinely loved hearing his tales of the pioneer school age and his enthusiasm while reliving the past with them. He also did the pioneer general store during our most recent visit. I cannot say enough good things about his patience and profound love of history. He answered all their silly questions (as well as their wonderful questions) with a smile on his face. He also taught me a thing or two! I could tell he genuinely loved volunteering his time with them. We will absolutely be visiting Harn Homestead again for many years to come! Thank you to all those at Harn Homestead who make it such a fantastic place to learn and have some fun!

My Best friend and I were just looking around Oklahoma City at all the history when we came across the Harn Homestead online. We decided that we would like to tour this and learn the history. Once we arrived we were greeed with the kindest man who welcomed us on the property. We followed the walkway to the gift shop where were greeted yet again with kindness. The young lady told us she would be giving us the tour and would meet us on the porch of main house. We were instructed to tour the remaining property on our own. This home and the land surrounding it is so full of history. I loved the stories that were shared and how well preserved it is. What an honor to see.

I take my 2nd grade class here EVERY year because of the wonderful hands-on learning. Mr. Sapper especially keeps me coming back. His kind, thoughful way of dealing with the children while at the same time maintaining decipline gives my students the ability to step back in time without any worries for their safety. Any time I have had a special need or concern, Mr. Sapper has immediately found a way to meet that need. I will continue to bring my students here and look forward to it every year.
