Great presentations and absolutely beautiful! Intermission is definitely welcome as the seats are pretty firm and your butt will go numb. Definitely a worthwhile experience.

Saw Guys and Dolls. Our seats were in the third row center, # 7 & 8. The music, acting, singing were all fantastic. The lower level is best if anyone In your party has problems with stairs. They do sell drinks prior to the show and during intermission (you can order your intermission drinks before the show so you dont have to stand in line during the 15 minute intermission). Cant wait to go back and see another show.

The aesthetics of this theatre is amazing. I feel like i journeyed back in time to the1920s upon entering the theatre. Comfortable seating. You may order snacks, beverages, and adult beverages to include: beer, mixed drinks, and wine. The performances are amazing. The actors portray great talent.

The atmosphere there is wonderful! So many things are restored. Parking is a pain though. Had to park at MacAuthor Mall.

The Wells Theatre is a nice, small theatre behind the MacArthur center. The theatre is beautifully decorated in an early Roman Greco style. We sat in the balcony and the volume and view were great. While not as large or grande as the Chrysler, it is worth the visit.

Very quaint theatre. The Legend of Georgia McBride had a great story line. The play was interestingly very funny. I enjoyed it.

The first play my husband attend was at Wells Theater, Pride and Prejudice. He loved it, We have now been back several times. Our favorite show was, Hounds of Baskerville, fun and very entertaining. Look forward to going back soon.

My wife and I saw The Legend of Georgia McBride at the Wells Theater last night, and it was the most fun Ive had at the theater since I saw the Blue Man Group in Boston 20 years ago.The cast was fantastic and Steve Pacek was amazing as Tracy Mills.

As always a great evening of entertainment. ...loved the one man play tonight..stage looked awesome.

It was fairly comfortable. The snacks sold during intermission were limited and quite sad honestly. Aside from the food, the theater was nice; the seating was well kept and clean. Any position in the room is suitable for viewing the stage.

Charming old theater with excellent staff We attended the Santaland Diaries last night and thoroughly enjoyed it. The production was absolutely hilarious. I highly recommend it.

Attended Sense & Sensibility with a friend. Play was okay. The Theatre is beautiful. I ran into Sharon McDonald. They encourage season tickets purchase.

When you go to the Wells you can feel the history. Its a great theater for any purpose. Small and intimate, and very well maintained. The staff is also highly-skilled.

A phenomenal performance from the cast for the play Crowns. A truly stellar event for all to see and experience.

Being Jane Austen fans, my wife and I went to try and see Sense and Sensibilty on Sunday, february 9 at 2pm. We arrived at the theater at 2:04 and the manager said she would not seat us until intermission as the show has started. The policy is it is the managers choice to seat someone after the show starts or not. This manager decided not to seat us. We lost $110 in tickets for no reason. The arrogance of the manager was extraordinary and this is a small Norfolk theater. I haven’t even seen this arrogance on Broadway. Warning: don’t get caught in traffic, or have trouble parking as they will take your money without giving you the show.

I love the shows here they are awesome. I love to watch the shows here. Plays always seem to make me happy and bring me back to my high school theater days. sSome shows are children-friendly too. So I can make it a family affair. Everyone should come see at least one play here you wont regret it. The last time I went to a show was just this past Saturday and I enjoyed watching the play put on by Norfolk State. I cant wait to come back to see Matilda.

Great time with friends and family if youre looking for something to do

The choices for what shows during that show season are always a nice variety. You are able to get snacks and drinks and bring them in with you as well at their concession stand. Whats great is you can order for intermission before hand and then just pick it up, which is a great time saver.If you are short, I would try to get a front row or box seat. The seats arent raked very much, so if someone is even slightly taller than you, you wont be able to see much. The rows are also very narrow, so dont expect much leg room.Everyone that works there are super helpful, so if you have any questions theyll answer it no problem. Overall a very nice theatre.

It is such a Beautiful and Historical Theatre. I was very impressed!!! I was there because my Son, Carlton West, Jr., had a part in the Play called the Tempest.

This is a family favorite. Wonderful ambiance, cultural exposure and an opportunity to see fine acting. The Wells has done a great job inviting the public in. There are different venues that allow you to meet the performers, take pictures and just enjoy. Great for date night or a relaxing entertaining evening.

A Christmas Carol was performed excellently. We loved the coziness of the theater.

It was historical and cool. Not too big either. It is right next to MacArthur Center. Good place to go for plays...................They have drinks you can get there. When i went to go see Matilda, they went off the stage for some of the singing parts (which i dont prefer)...............

I go here once a year (for the past decade or more) to see the same play (A Christmas Carol). It ia always great and they change it slightly each year. The new stage is great!

We love this old theater. Its up close and personal with the stage. Good acoustic and view of stage. Mixture of new and experienced actors. We live in NC and drive up every year for the Christmas Carol

I was there for opening night of The Bluest Eye. Last year I saw Hats. Great atmosphere, nice seating & facilities, diverse crowd. Awesome experience. I may buy the pass so that I can see other productions.

Absolutely ridiculous...went to go see a lovely musical with my boyfriend and all these children swarmed the stage and started singing of all things! They were dancing all over the place and the theatre management just stood there...In all seriousness, first time here and had a great experience seeing Matilda. Will be returning and seeing future shows. Bravo!

A lovely venue! The restrooms were so clean! The theatre is decorated well and has a great atmosphere. Everyone should try and catch a show here.

Great seats no matter where you sit. Great acoustics. Great show. The building looks very run down and I found the stairways very uneven and a little unsafe in short heels.My first time...it wouldve been great to have a shuttle service to the nearby parking deck instead of having to blindly find my way through the streets at night. I followed some other people hoping they were going there as well!

A great theatre, Ive seen a few shows here now and have always been impressed by the quality of the shows. If you have a student ID, theyll offer student rush tickets too. Cant complain about that.

Weve had season tickets for the VA Stage Company for many years. The Wells Theatre is beautiful and there isnt a bad seat in the house. They remodeled last year and updated the rest rooms which was much appreciated. We always park in the parking garage at MacArthur Mall, so there is a little bit of a walk.

I saw A Christmas Carol and had more fun than I expected. The actors were on point and the ghost of future scared the living day lights out of me when he came out. The concessions were a bit expensive, but the adult beverages were rather tasty.

Local favorite. Always a film worth watching. Great atmosphere. Love it, love it.

The Wells Theater of Norfolk is an historic gem. It was designed by a New York firm and has withstood the tests of time. The interior is splendidly decorated with hand-carved wooden figures in the main lobby, exquisitely crafted mosaics in the entry way and beautiful painting and chandeliers in the theater area itself.The theater itself has plenty of seats, including 6 separate box seat area that accomodate 4 people, mezzanine seating, and, of course, orchestra seating directly in front of the stage.This theater has been the primary home for much of the Virginia Stage Companys performances over the years. They are an excellent group to go and watch, especially during the holiday season for their rendition of Dickens A Christmas Carol.Other information that may be worth noting is that the building itself is directly across the street from MacArthur Mall and not too far from Granby St, which has many delicious restaurants, including Grace OMalleys.

Beautiful theatre. I would add pictures but you should see it yourself. Its a little smaller than some. If youve been to the opera house, this is considerably smaller. Less than half, but the boxes are beautifully decorated. The front is in the alley between Monticello and Granby. The shows depend on whos putting them on, but the theatre itself is nice. Stadium seating with a balcony. They also offer concessions, and usually have alcohol available.

I went to this theatre to see the show panties in a twist and the cast was phenomenal!! The venue itself was very cozy, and while it was newly redone, still provided the historical feel that the theatre is based on. I would def come back to see another show!

My dad and I went to see Ring of Fire: The Music of Johnny Cash (the greatest singer ever, btw), which was the beginning of the Virginia Stage Companys 39th season. It was a great show, mind you. But that was the first time Ive ever been to the Wells Theatre, and I must say that I was genuinely impressed. It has the appeal of the classical theatre/arts, but fitted with some modern luxuries. The seating was comfortable enough (I am tall, so my seat was a little cramped for leg room). Aside from that, I have no complaints, and I will definitely be going back again for another show!

Hysterical show! Saw the comedy about the Hound of the Baskerville. Kept us laughing all night...and for several days as we recalled a line or two! Must see for great entertainment!

Virginia Stage Company brings fantastic productions to our community. Most notably, Fences in 2015 and a wonderful Wiz! in 2017 with Norfolk State Univ cast.The Wells celebrated its 100th anniversary last year. Beautiful theatre with colorful past!

Its expensive but it prides itself with New York Actors that they hire from New Yorks Broadway scene. Not all actors are from New York. You have to pay for parking. The Metro train passes by there, you can also Lyft or Uber as wellto save money.
