I loved it. This is the restored 1932 Lowes State Theater, home to many famous early vaudiville shows, later a motion picture theater, and now lovingly restored and part of the TCC campus. The interior is sublime as well as famous, and I enjoy the shows and events that we have attended here and it amazes me anew each time we go. If there is an event you are interested in, dont hesitate to buy a ticket. You can pick up tickets at the box office at the theater and save a lot in convenience fees, and there is a lot of on street parking as well as several parking garages nearby. There are many great restaurants and hotels nearby as well, its about as good as it gets for a superb facility that is easy to reach and lots of nearby attractions. Highly recommend.

Had a great time watching Aladdin, performed by the hurrah players. Great venue. The only complaint I had was that the seats were a bit too close together so if someone in the middle seats needed out, the entire row had to get out. Other than that the experience was fantastic. The staff were friendly, funny, and very accommodating. I am excited to go back for another show

The theater itself is pretty decent. I went there recently to watch a performance with a bunch of homeschool families. The ushers were very rude and tried to sit one of my children (ages 6 and 9) at the end of a row and send my other child and me to the other end of the next row. When I said that I couldnt do that, the ushers became rude and said Youre a teacher, you should know how this works. I replied with No, Im a homeschool parent and Im responsible for my children and no one else. I also pointed out several empty seats in rows ahead of us. After that the usher was even more irritable with me. Very unprofessional and dissapointing. I understand that they wanted to fill all of the seats, especially since they were planning to record the performance that day, but the ushers need to understand the difference between a regular school group, and homeschool groups. The performance was not a full audience due to some schools not being able to come due to weather, so needing to fill all seats due to being maxed out wasnt an issue.

Dedicated on May 10, 1926 as the Lowes State Theater. Originally it seated 2,100 and was utilized for vaudeville, variety shows and also first run movies. Architect was Thomas White Lamb. In the 1950s is was simply known as the Lowes Theater. The theater went dark in the 70s opening again as the Premier a rock club which had a short stint. In 1999 the City of Norfolk as part of a revitalization effort downtown spent 10 million to restore the building to its glory days and make it a premier performing arts center. The new owner TCC used a large portion of the balcony for lecture halls reducing seating from 2,100 to 862.Thankfully the unique ornate details like the chandeliers and gilded boxes. Even the seats were retained. Technology was added during the renovation to make the only downtown performing arts center into a state of the art facility. In 2000 the theater was dedicated as the TCC Jeanne & George Roper Center. Today the theater continues to be a busy venue. Its used by both the owner TCC and the community for live shows and dance performances.I have attended two dance productions and two plays by Hurrah Players over the past ten years. The infrastructure is in marvelous condition and has been superbly maintained by TCC. The sound system is fantastic. As a spectator I find the seats are too close together. I have no information if this is an original layout, or not.The TCC Roper Theater is a downtown Norfolk gem. If not for the City of Norfolk, TCC and Jeanne & George Ropers generous contribution to save and restore the aging vacant building its hard to know whats the future may have been. If you get the opportunity to attend a show, or even just tour I would recommend.
