This is my go to place to get our Caribbean groceries. They keep the shelves well stocked and clean. The prices are extremely reasonable.The food in the restaurant is also delicious.

I was told this place was pretty good to try so wanted to give it a go. I walked in and seen they had a bar area and a separate room where people could order their food to go. The bar area had tables and seats by the bar but no one could sit there. They had every other table available and the bar looked newly renovated. We were greeted by the bartender and she let us sit where we wanted. She came over and was very nice. We ordered our drinks and she got them right away. We then ordered our meals and it took some time for it to arrive. She got really busy at one point and wasnt able to be attentive but for the most part she was great. When the food finally arrived I tried my oxtail, rice and peas, and cabbage and it was just ok. The cabbage was the best part. I tried my friends curry chicken and it was just ok as well. The service was really good but the food and drinks were not the best.

Coming from Brooklyn New York to va I’ve been searching high n low for a good Jamaican food spot and still haven’t found one the food here is a hit then next day a miss but it’s the closet to my home wen I don’t feel like cooking one thing this owner should do is whoever make the( pie)Mac and cheese please tell them to stop. (Pie)Mac n cheese taste like box food. 3 stars because it’s ok.

Unbelievable.. had to wait about 10 minutes in line but once I got my food I see why! And glad I waited! This will definitely be a new regular. Super nice staff, very clean establishment, but even if it wasnt Id still eat there cuz the food is so so good!

Food is always fresh and prepared well. Have yet to find stewed oxtail this delicious anywhere else for the past 12 years. Highly recommend.

I use to love this place. But The food is not good at all! The Food had no taste! Oxtails very bland I was so disappointed when got home. I wasted $34 It went in the trash. I won’t go back again!!!!!

I ordered a small oxtail with a side of cabbage and a side of yam & plantains mixed. Be prepared to answer the question which would you like more of. I opted for more cabbage. The sides were VERY plentiful and the oxtail gravy was flavorful, dark & thick. The greens my husband ordered were salty. He also ordered the mac n cheese. I opted out of the mac n cheese because it looked dry. My husband said it was da bomb.

I like most of the food. My fav is the cabbage and the jerk chicken. The lines are a little long at times but that can be expected from a popular good food spot

The food is always good here! I always get the curry goat with rice and peas with a side of green banana and oxtail red pea/bean soup.

Food is always on point. You may want to call ahaead. That line can go from 3 people to 20 in a matter of seconds. They have a space for you to sit down and eat. Always come here when I vome back in town to visit Virginia

Food just isnt the same, since moving locations Im just not a fan of how the food taste anymore. But the bar inside is nice.

Im from The Bronx and I have been craving some Jamaican food for a while so a friend had told me about MP..so I took the hour drive from North Carolina and it was worth it..The Saltfish and dumplings was great..I also brought the Oxtails peas and rice and cabbage every thing was delicious..I will be back..

Mp Island Cafe never disappoints. Their food is always delicious. Their staff is always friendly. If you are looking for some of the best Caribbean food in the 757 this is one of the spots to get it. The portions are alway huge. You will never be disappointed in the amount of food you get for the money. If you are disappointed in the portions you wont be disappointed in the way it taste. This is one of my favorite spots.

My wife and I can by close to dinner time and the chicken jerk and curry were delicious. Good size serving as well.

I ordered food from MP Island Cafe thru Doordash. and i wasn’t impressed at all. They forgot to put my soda in the bag, and i couldn’t get thru the phone lines to speak to anyone about it. so i wasn’t thrilled about that. As far as the food, i wasn’t pleased with how it looked or tasted. I asked for gravy on my rice/peas & instead i just got dry rice. everything was dry. which is probably worse then unseasoned food. I also had a mysterious black spot on my fish, (wasn’t burnt) Definitely not Authentic Caribbean food. I thought i would have a good experience @ MP because of all the rave reviews... negative. It tastes like any regular food from anywhere. i’m from up north and they know how to do it.. not so much at this spot. i will not order from MP Island again. Not pleased & not satisfied.

I ordered a LG Chicken Stew, more white rice, with Mac. A side of cabbage, a side of plantains and a side of cornbread as well... and after waiting in line for 30 mins, I must say it was totally worth it! Everything was so fresh and savory; It was so good it made me wanna leave a review! Thank you for the awesome customer service and amazing food!

It was very comfortable, food was good !! Staff was super welcoming. I see alot of people complaining in the reviews about the overall taste of the food at this location. Keep in mind they have an entire grocery section if youd like to purchase and prepare the same foods at home to your personal tastes.

This is the first Jamaican restaurant that I’ve been to that served rice as a side. Every other Jamaican restaurant I’ve ever been to, rice comes with your choice of meat. The macaroni and cheese was TERRIBLE! I swear this had to have been some boxed mac-n-cheese. The skinny brown-skin woman (who took my order) was so lost and confused. On my styrofoam “to go” plate she attempted to give me this big portion of “wack-a-roni & cheese” and in the little corner she tried to give me “2 little oxtails”. I declined it! After properly being served & finally sitting down to eat, I was VERY DISAPPOINTED. The goat was cold (no exaggeration) & the oxtails were subpar. NEVER WILL I SPEND MONEY THERE AGAIN!

I dont even know where to start...I freaking love this place...The curry goat is my favorite plate...But sometimes the oxtail be hitting the spot..The fried sweet plantain tatse so good...The Jamaican lady serving the food is always nice to us...The tall black guy taking the money needs to relax a bit...You cant be uptight surrounded by good smelling food and great music vibe...Every time I stop by, I bring a friend...They all love the food too...

I used the new online ordering and it was very convenient when I went to pick up my order the line was out the door however I was able to go to the doordash table let them know I was picking up my online order only had to wait a couple of minutes I got the ox tails it was Delicious will definitely order again

Their food is very taste, not too overly seasoned. You taste just enuf of the Caribbean flavors and its not overwhelming. I love the peas & rice with a little oxtail juice over the top and the cabbage is delicious with dark jerk chicken. Thats me....

The food is ALWAYS great but their service is even SLOWER since this Pandemic! They need to work on speeding the service up..I waited an HOUR for take-out which is DOUBLE the usual long wait..unexceptable!

Great food. Im from Jamaica and often these Jamaican restaurants dont cook like the islands. I give them credit and appreciate that there are multiple locations in Virginia. I havent been disappointed year, but the oxtail need fi be a likkle more tender please.

As a West Indian American this place doesnt exude the feel of a Caribbean location. When an establishment or business grows but, in the process of trying to cater to everyone theres things that get missed along the way especially the inviting nature of the staff. The staff at times seems to be going through the motions at times. Long wait but prior knowledge knowing their busiest time is Lunch hour more staffing to help with the wait time.The atmosphere of the establishment didnt feel as if I was in a Caribbean restaurant. Pricing of food versus the serving at times great disparity. If you have been to Jamaica and the Caribbean the taste of the home cooking is not here.

I normally give this place good reviews, but today I ordered the Oxtail dinner and had Door Dash deliver it . I paid $15+ for this meal, and they gave me 4 little Oxtails, I couldnt believe it, and this is not the first time that I noticed that theyll skimp on food when you are not their to see exactly what they are giving you. Im not saying that Ill never eat there again, but if I do, I will pick it up myself. They really should be ashamed of themselves.

My Jerk chicken was old and dry yesterday. Macaroni and cheese was also dry, I had to tell the lady to stir it up first It wasnt good at all. And I eat here on a regular. This is the second visit in a row that I was not happy. This place used to be better, not sure what has happened....Bummer

Well, when MP was down the street, the buffet was wonderful. You could also order food off of menu. But now the way its set up, there wasnt a lot of variety. But the food was good that we place was packed, when we, so evidently a lot of people like the place. I would have liked a better variety. Also,it was pricier than when they were down the street.

I was in VA visiting when my friend took me to get pick up dinner. The service was fast and efficient. The food was not good though. The curry goat was chewy with little meat and the rice and peas were mushy. Ive never known this place to have been that bad so I was shocked.
