Its Very cold inside: wear many layers of clothing appropriate for cooler than outside temperature. All activities (feedings, talks, trainings, meet and greets) are cancelled. Several areas are closed due to apparent Covid-19 space constraints. If youre prone to thirst, bring water. There are no drinking fountains & they charge $3 for a bottle.
Im giving them 5 stars for how they are still allowing people in and to run with all the restrictions in place. This was my first time here, and I did have a really good time. The staff were all very friendly and informative. There, sadly, was only like 5 exhibits to look at and again, there are a lot of restrictions going on and only being in phase 1 we couldnt really go inside the buildings or touch anything for the most part. Our timing wasnt all that great either, everything had just been fed or was during feeding so we didnt actually get to see a whole lot of the actual animals. Regardless of everything, the place did very well and gave us a tour and we still had a really great time.
We had a great time at the Oregon Coast Aquarium! Their COVID procedures and precautions were top notch. The best part was a volunteer (Joe) who was readily available to answer questions about the animals, marine life and birds. Some attractions were closed, but we got to see a quite a bit.
Impromptu visit to this beautiful work of art. Outdoor exhibits just off the coast imitate the perfect natural habitat for the birds and sea lions making it feel like you’re immersed in nature. Great variety of jellyfish. I wish there were more larger animals, but the variety and quality of sea life there is a colorful sight to see! Types of starfish I have never even heard of!
Really nice aquarium that was reasonably priced. I loved the jelly fish and seals. All the animals/sea life looked well taken care off and the tanks were very clean which is very important in order for me to enjoy an aquarium. Anyone who likes sea creatures reguardless of age would enjoy it here. My kids also loved the touch pool and the aquarium tunnel you can go inside.
Clean, friendly and educational. My family loves it here and we visit at least twice a year. Its a little spendy if you have a big family, but worth it if you ask me.
We love places to see sea creatures. Nice and clean and social distancing protocols clearly in place.
Its a cool place, but I wish it was bigger!! It doesnt take very long to see everything. The otter was my favorite part. Plus its cool to talk to the people that work there, theyre all pretty down to earth and passionate about their job.
We again had a great time at the aquarium. We enjoyed the newest change of the Indo-Pacific tank, there were so many Yellow Tangs. The one way path that allows us to explore all the open sections of the campus was backwards to our normal way weve been taking for 13 years and it was nice. Thank you for all the good memories.
This is one of the nicest aquariums I have visited. The exhibits are well curated, and the staff is friendly and accommodating. We loved the new Steampunk exhibit and the sea otters. The underwater aquarium is amazing and gives a great view of the wildlife. The kids had a great time and loved the animals. We visited on a Friday afternoon, and it was not too busy. There are plenty of places to cool down or warm up.
Im sorry guys. The people are really nice, I know its an expensive place to run, but it seemed really grungy, dirty and outdated outside. The steam punk theme was a nice attempt at sprucing things up, but not well integrated. The outside animals seemed unhappy dirty and weathered. It was kind of sad. I will always support wildlife conservation and I respect how hard it must be to keep it clean. I guess I wish they would just let all the outside animals go and convert to video of free, happy animals in the wild. The aquarium tunnel was really the only highlight for me.
Oregon coast aquarium is expensive but totally worth the money! They have strollers that they rent out which turned out to be a life saver because we ended up forgetting ours! The whole family had a blast and completely enjoyed the experience!
We loved the aquarium. It is a great way for visitors and locals to learn about the wildlife in Oregon and to learn about how to help the environment. It is a great place for kids to have hands-on learning while having fun. There were many feeding demonstrations and talks about the animals that the workers hosted. There was a cafe to eat at. There are indoor and outdoor portions, and even a nature walk. Unfortunately we did not see any wildlife on the nature walk besides the plants.
The Aquarium is doing a great job creating a safe environment. It is a unique experience to see the exhibits without any crowds.
What an incredible place to view sharks, tuna, sea otters, giant rays, sturgeon, rockfish, trigger fish, all kinds of eals, gigantic starfish, spider crabs, and beautiful white jelly fish, just to name a few...holy mackerel! What a thrill to be able to see all of these animals in one day, at one place! Im so glad I went, and feel like I came away with a better understanding of how underwater animals live.
We drove 61/2 hours to be let down by this establishment, the only good display was the diving birds, I hadnt been there in over 20 years and I guarantee you wont see me again, total waste of time and money. If your not going to open everything then dont bother. Your volunteer are great except for the old lady trying to throw wearing masks in our faces outside and also telling me its a law, its a mandate not law.So again your establishment sucks
Had a gale going on so outdoor exhibits werent great and the octopus exhibit was closed. Other than that it was fantastic and kid friendly with helpful staff. I recommend checking in advance on weather and open exhibits.
One of the best aquarium experiences ever...anywhere. They always have a fun, interesting special exhibit, and the long term displays are world class! I always love the jelly tank, the otters and seabirds are amazing, and walking through the shark tank is worth the admission by itself.
Super great place to young and old !! Even with covid they did a great job with everything, the sea lions were hilarious
Absolutely wonderful. However, would have been perfect if all the exhibits had been open. Money well spent!
Great aquarium right on the water. Cool exhibits and fun shows. Staff were all very nice food in Cafe was good and reasonably priced. Really liked the shark tube and the sea lion shown. But all exhibits were well done. They had the classic jellyfish one as well. Very fun, I love the steam punk exhibits fun story and interesting way to experience the aquarium. Well be back. Go spend your money where it counts! Here at the aquarium.
Great aquarium, specializing in Oregon coast aquatic species. Cool sea punk exhibit, good for the kids. Three underwater walking tanks, including below the floor windows. Delightful foliage and nature pathways, situated on the bay.
Terriffic aquairium with excellent exhibits and easy to get around. The exhibits are all presented well with good signage and lighting. This is a good place to visit for people of all ages. Good parking and a fair price for a quality aquairium. There is a lot to see, so give yourself enough time to really enjoy your visit. The clear underwater tunnel is great.
Great place to visit with kids or any age. The touching ponds are my favorite and the colors are beautiful. It has a nice cafe to grab a bite and nice gift shops. DONT FORGET TO SCROLL DOWN AND LOOK AT THE PHOTOS,
I drove 4 hours with reservations to find the aquarium closed due to fallen trees. They failed to notify me via phone or email the whole day. Even when I called the aquarium and asked about it the said they were doing their best to notify people via phone, they also couldnt give me a reason as to why they would not send a notification email to all resos when i asked, i never received a single call or email the whole day. There goes over 100$ in gas and a vacation day wasted with a car full of excited kids only to be filled with disappointment. Also we could not find a place to eat due to poor air quality which is another reason the aquarium shut down that i was failed to be notified about. My reso was in the late afternoon and the employees and managers told me that they were notified first thing in the morning. I feel completely disrespected as a paying customer, who made reservations.
So amazing they take great care of them all and they are so cute!! Worth every penny cant wait to come back when covid is under control and enjoy every part!!
Great place lots of cool fish and great place for some photos
They were sold out. We didnt know we had to buy tickets online, the web site should be a little more clear. Came from 4 hrs drive. So that sucked
I love aquariums. Oregon Coast is relatively small but well laid out. Covid has interrupted the animal shows. Lots of exhibits inside.
This is one neat place to stop by and check out with family or friends. A wonderful place for children. Something to see in every corner inside, outside and under. Hands on for everyone. Our first time here and we will be back. Tons of different types of sea life here and some we were able to touch.
Fun for all ages all while maintaining a safe distance from others!
Great! One way due to COVID and tickets must be bought in advance. The octopus was released so they dont have one right now but otherwise awesome!
The aquarium is SO MUCH BETTER after the kids have gone back to school and all the tourists are gone!! End of September, no lines, no crowds. Awesome new steampunk attraction!
Great aquarium! Loved the fish tanks on display. Also the aviary and otters were excellent!
Good for customer service, bad for proper information. Went through in 30 minutes because we thought there was more too see because they told us we 90 minutes to get through it all. First time to the aquarium and last time to the aquarium. A let down for the kids because how fast it went and othet people were irritated as well because they werent informed of hown fast it was.AND THE KICKER WAS EVEN THOUGH WE DIDNT KNOW WE WERE NOT ALLOWED TO GO ARROUND A SECOND TIME TO LOOK AROUND. A RIP OFF!!Kids had fun it was fun but been nice to know when we got there that it goes by fast.Really annoyed because we drove 4 hours to get there.
Wonderful. The steampunk theme was very in style and fun to explore. Outdoor exhibits were great. Only downside was there was no really warm building to recover from the cold. Was glad to get back to the car heater.
Excellent exhibits...must visit.
We had a wonderful time at this beautiful aquarium. Prices are reasonable. We spent a couple of hours here and enjoyed watching the pelican eat
Great aquarium! We have been to several and this one ranks very high on our list. The sea birds were great to see at feeding time. The sharks were really cool. Loved the rays. Friendly staff. Clean grounds. Got to touch a sea cucumber and a sea anemone. Great way to spend a few hours in Newport.
Nice place to visit if your in town
Enjoyed the reserve a time experience, thought the experience was a very safe way to still enjoy a very good aquarium. Really appreciated the helpful staff wearing masks available to answer questions.
Family fun one a top level. There is currently an incredibly creative Seapunk theme, taking off on the steampunk fad. It plays very well using a submarine story with inventive machines and exhibits. The price is very expensive, but the entertainment value is high.
Excellent for kids and adults alike. Parking was easy, just make sure you remember which lot you’re in. New Steampunk exhibit was fun, though I didn’t quite see how it fit or was educational. Make sure to catch the feeding times and talks! Kids loved the tunnels and seahorses.Food court options are decent and reasonably priced.
Reasonable price, nice staff, and cool animals. I especially loved the seals and sea lions. Watching them swim around and interact with people at the windows was so much fun!
Beautiful aquarium. Personally, I did not think the seapunk exhibit was up to the hype. Overall the other long standing exhibits were very enjoyable to walk through. Nice gift shops.
Very good spot for family trip. I hope they will invest more and expand thw facility. NW has such a great natural resources, this facility is not enough.
Fantastic, great for kids! Not all of the main attractions are there but we still had a blast.
Great place and tons you can learn. The Seapunk exhibit was really neat. The only downside is that everything is VERY expensive. Had a good time still.
Great aquarium! Well designed exhibits. Really enjoyed the sea otters. Seapunk exhibit was very well done and fun for all ages. Like how they focus on the local ocean environments. Pro top - get your tickets online and skip the lines at the door. It can get very busy a peak times. They have a dedicated line for prepaid admission!
The Oregon Coast Aquarium is a blast from the moment you enter until the very last second, when you resign yourself to fact -- its time to leave. -- Staff? Unbelievably friendly and helpful!-- The facility? Otherworldly and well groomed!-- The attractions? Fasinating beyond compare!-- Family friendly? Of course!-- The architecture within the park? Mind boggling!-- Parking? Ample!-- Friendly to those with special needs? Outstanding!-- Clean and abundant restroom access? Absolutely!-- Great value for your money? Hell yes!I decided to go when they decorated the joint with holiday lights for the 2019 season. It was dark, the rain misted a bit while I stood on line. Everyone was cheerful and excited. The aquarium had characters of interest intermingling with the crowds to help entertain the little ones, who were all excited to see Santa. There little eyes filled with wonder and anticipation. Their little smiles renued my faith in the future of humanity. When I entered the park, I was struck by the carefully orchestrated splendor of a massive choir splendly harmonizing Christmas carols beside a towering tree, brilliantly adorned with twinkling lights and ornaments. So lovely...Once I took in my fill of the spectacular greeting... I dove right in to all the exhibits. Each showcase that led to the next were amazing and unbelievably informative! Im a kid at heart when it comes to zoos and aquarium excursions. There was a ton of interactive exhibits where the little ones came face-to-face or could get hands on with the magical sea life all around them. Ive been to aquariums all over. Kinda my thing. The Oregon Coast Aquarium is an oceanic jewel in the heart of the SPECTACULAR Oregon coast. If you have kids? Take them! If you are a lover of our precious oceans? Go! If you are an old timer in need of a lovely stretch and want to soak up some youthful vibes? Go! You wont be disappointed!
The exhibits were utterly fascinating and beautiful. All staff around the aquarium were very knowledgeable and helpful. The layout is good, the theme and decoration was great as well. I would recommend the aquarium to anyone. I think that pretty much anyone could have a great time here.
(Oct. 6, 2020 Visit) Its always such a joy to come back here, year after year! The moment we drive away, we are already thinking about our next visit. I (Dana) could watch the puffins for hours, and I visit the online sea bird webcam almost every day! Our daughter loves the rockfish the most, and I love them, too! They play peek-a-boo with you! And, of course, the cowfish are adorable and the nettles are gorgeous! The aquarium has adapted very well to the COVID-19 restrictions. We do look forward to the day that the Ferry Slip Cafe opens up again, because the food is wonderful. The volunteers, who are stationed all around, are so helpful. We enjoyed chatting with the charming man in the sea bird aviary. Volunteer Jan S. really went above and beyond for us! She immediately greeted us when we arrived, and later on we became turned around looking for the water refill station! She sent us in the right direction, and was so helpful. Thank you so much! You all are a great team!
Im not a big fan of aquatic life, but this aquarium is pretty good. The underwater tunnel was cool, but the best part is how kids react to the experience. If you have kids, this is a must visit location on the Oregon Coast. It was a little pricey, and the whole photo thing was very Disney Land, but they got to meet operating budgets some how.
Love the design of the aquarium. Indoor and outdoor exhibits. I especially enjoyed the Jules Verne inspired temporary exhibit called Sea Punk. I spent about 2 hours here. Worth a visit but the price is high for what it is.
This place is always fun! The animals look incredibly healthy and the exhibits are always fun to look through. I took my boyfriend here a few weeks ago and he actually got to touch his first anemone. He was shocked of course, since it was sticky, but he thought it was pretty cool. The touch pool is always interesting though. Theyve got a great little gift shop that you can buy toys, minerals, apparel, food, and much much more. This place also has plenty of photo opportunities if youd like to put it down in a photo album someday. I reccomend coming here if you enjoy aquariums and or are looking for a fun day date with your significant other. Its also a great place for a family fun day as well :)
It was our first aquarium and we had a great experience! Tons of things to see and kids to explore. The jelly fish, sharks, and octopus were our favorites! We also had our picture taken for a decent price. We went in winter so it wasnt busy or crowded.
What a wonderful place to take the family. It is all handicap accessible as we had my son in his wheelchair. In the tidal touch area they have a volunteer place the various starfish and urchins into a pail so he could touch also. The fish were amazing with a glass tunnel thru the shark and big fish tank. I personally found that my newer cellphone took better pictures than my expensive large camera. All the pictures are from my cellphone.
For 24.95 a person with 1/2 the exhibits closed (due to Covid-19), i do feel like there should be a small discount. The day we did go, it was feeding time for the animals that were opened.
It was cool, really packed with people. Expensive, but there is lots to see. Give yourself some time, to work through the crowds allowing you too see everything. The tanks were cool, its worth seeing the feedings and keeper talks. Plan ahead to see those throughout the day.
Fun, as always! Go every year and love it each time. Even tho its pretty much the same, I will learn something new!
We took the family to the west coast and everyone was recommending this place for us to stop. I was shocked at how affordable the price to gain addmitance was. You will definitely want a camera. There is so much to see and the walk through is very well laid out. Everyone we met as staff was super friendly. My family still talks about this place today!Make sure to spend time enjoying this place and dont speed walk it. You will not regret it.
Spring break weekend, and a busy place! Grounds are clean and well kept, the exhibits are in great condition, staff super helpful. (Need more bathrooms) it is a bit pricey, but I understand sales are part of upkeep. Great visit and we will come again.
Awesome. The staff was great, knowledgeable and friendly. Went on a behind the scenes tour the guide was awesome. The overall place was super, great to bring the family for a day of ocean themed fun
The only cool thing about this aquarium is the size and open sea. Wish the hurricane simulator was free as you had to pay 25 dollars to get in the first place. Overall the place was clean and nice. It can get crowded easily due to the small windows and tight hallways.
This place is amazing!! Did an overnight experience and the exhibit and staff were amazing... When you get there ask for Bruce Banner
Was ok this time but most exhibit closed, should lower price too $ 10 at this time if not getting the full experience...
Just a stellar experience. Clean. Lots of great educational material. Amazing exhibits. Very knowledge staff and many many wonderful creatures to see.
I cant possibly do this place justice through photography off a tablet and lack of time! It would take days to even scratch the surface of the variety to see here and try and capture in a picture with a top,of the line camera! Ive enjoyed several aquariums around the country, and this one did not disappoint in the slightest, even though appearing small which was not quite the case once inside and trying to view everything. The staff was available and extremely helpful, friendly, and knowledgeable. We missed the lights at night for the holidays, but I can imagine it was awesome and we will try to catch it in the future. The great thing is like most aquariums things are always changing, but this one is constantly changing as the rehabilitated marine life is sent back to the wild blue. I witnessed a crab loose a piece of his leg to a green sea anime that was for awhile appearing it may win the fight! Never underestimate the cute little squishy things that perhaps appear un-equipped and helpless for the surroundings and meal options! It just may take a leg! This was an absolute win for the whole family and the youngest kid in the group is 42! This is a place where anytime is time to play and have fun at any age!
Fairly expensive at 49$ for two adults for the size of the place but it is pretty awesome for what it is, very well done exhibits and featuring that the sea lions arent taught with violent or negative training methods was informativeThe touch tank was really cool as well as the deep sea tubes with all the fish above which was a bit mesmerizing,Im including a bunch of videos and pictures as well here on the reviewThe bird exhibits were a nice twist to an aquarium, it only took about 3 hours though to walk through the entire park and take time at most of the exhibits.Watch the pelican show its actually pretty cool same with the seal/ sea lion showOverall spent 49$ for 2 adults, 11$ on a stuffed animal haha and 1$ for 2 of the smooshed pennies with pictures on them. All for about 3 hours.Park tickets cost are the only reason its not 5 stars, but I can be picky, still glad we went though :D
This place is so awesome!!! Loved everything about it!!! Probably the best place I have been to. And the price is reasonable. Your kids and you are going to love it.
COVID REVIEW:This is solely based on my experience while they are partially opened due to COVID. Its not worth it.The staff is nice, but for $15 per person.... eh. They have 5 exhibits open. Vultures, sea otters, sea lions, some birds, and then a tank of star fish and other creatures. You are on a tour, so you cant stay at certain exhibits for as long as you like. The sea otters were busy doing something else, so there goes 1/5 of the exhibit. The tour is about 45 minutes. At the entrance of the aquarium is the gift shop. We had a toddler and decided that we would get him a toy at the end of the tour. We thought the tour would circle back and we would walk past the gift shop again. Nope, you exit some random door. Yes, we could have walked back, but if our kid forgot about it, Im not against saving $20 bucks for a stuffed animal haha.I do appreciate they are trying to do something under these circumstances... but its just not worth it.
Awesome as always but too many people. Glad were members so we can go back after school starts. The Seapunk is a must see.
What a wonderful experience! Kudos to the staff for a well kept safe facility!
We had a marvelous time exploring the exhibits, and learning more about the creatures who live alongside us on the Oregon coast! The aquariums highlight a variety of sea life and are exquisitely beautiful. The outdoor portions were equally interesting, and highlights were watching the sea otters eat their lunch, the octopus moving along the window, and the amusing seabirds. Highly recommend this stellar aquarium!
Love it here. While not the largest place, they do take care of the animals and change and update exhibits to keep visits fresh.More than an aquatic zoo, they try to educate people on conservation and pollution which affects humans almost as much as the animals. Some people think the price is high, but its not cheap to not only maintain the animals but to keep them happy as well, and the animals certainly seem happy to me!
The creatures and animals are really cool to look at. They have sea otters and sea lions and a walk through tunnel of deep sea creatures. There is a petting station for star fish and other cute little guys. It is very educational so I highly recommend taking your children there.
Lots of things to do in this place. Entrance fee wasn’t too bad. It’s a huge place.
Emma jean says Stingrays and otters were her favorite. Grandpa thought it a bit expensive. But enjoyed it.
Loved it!! Beautiful ocean life and very peaceful.
Great as usual! Looking forward to the new format
Recommend the behind the scenes tour. Very informative and interesting.
We love this place! Everytime we come to Newport we make a stop. Expensive, but we make a day out of it and the kiddos love it, so its worth it. Last trip was very disappointed. Over half the entire exhibit was closed for remodel (which I completely get and understand), but there was no sign letting you know prior to purchasing tickets and no discount given. So paying over $70 for half what you normally get to see was a little rough.
This place was awesome! They did a phenomenal job with the layout of the entire facility. It almost had a surprise around every corner, which get the flow and interest going. Extremely well maintained. I have been to a lot of aquariums in my day and have never seen cleaner tanks to hold all of the fish. The water was crystal clear, and I sure they fish appreciate that as well.
Beautiful, interactive, fun to see the seals and otters! The Steam Punk exhibit was fantastic. Oh, did I mention the jellyfish, the starfishand the octopus?!
We had such a nice day here! I fell in love with this place. Was my first time ever going to an aquarium and I completely loved it. My favorite part was the sharks, and I saw how they feed them, I didnt want to leave the sharks area haha. The people that works here is super nice, they answered all the questions I made and they explained everything super good. We will definitely coming back to this place.
Took my grand daughter to see the sea lights and had a wonderful time. The exhibits were amazing
Nice medium sized aquarium with tons of local fish and animals of display. Specializing in the Oregon Coast with touchable tide pools and glass underwater tunnels
So many good exhibits even though some stuff was blocked off. The touch pool was my second fav to the sharks.
The new sea punk exhibit is very cool and very kid friendly
I have a membership so I can go wherever. I love the shark tunnel and how often they change the inside exhibits.
Exhibit was awesome and the employees were full of great information and was very nice also
This was an amazing place! Kids will love it. Its very interactive and fun. The wildlife is amazing to watch. The aquarium is full of neat things to watch and play with. I will come back for sure.
Super cute.We lucked out and were able to see the opossum show as well as the otter show. My son loved it.It was really helpful that they had people and all the different areas to answer any questions anyone might have.
Excellent service, enhanced safety guidelines, absolutely great visit.
It has a lot of different fish There are sharks and stingrays too. There is a small petting area for the little sea creatures. In one of the rooms there is a Hurricane simulator you can try for $2.00. Kids really love to try out the simulation. The lines got fast for it since it can fit 4 kids at once for no extra cost. There are some small birds you can see the too. Like puffins and Turkey vultures. There is a gift shop too.
A few of the exhibits are closed, but overall nicely informative.
I consider my admission price today a donation. A few outdoor exhibits only. Aquarium closed.
The aquarium is so big and has so much going on that you can visit it from year to year and never tire of it. Amuse yourself with playful otters. See the gracefulness of seals. Puffins almost dont look real. The jellyfish amaze me and creep me out at the same time. The glass tunnels are always a hit too.
This place is perfect. It is not too big or too small and the exhibits are entertaining. My 2 year old son loves the touch tank and the shark tunnel. As for prices the Oregon Zoo has reciprocity for one month a year where you can get in for free if you are members. Even if you are not members the aquarium is still amazing.
I love the Oregon Coast Aquarium! No matter how many times I go, I always learn something new. The animals are always fun to see and you might even catch an otter or turkey culture feeding. The rotating exhibit right now is called Seapunk, and its very inventive and kid friendly, but is still interesting for adults too. Definitely stop by the touch tide pools to get hugged by a sea urchin!
