Great, well-maintained trail. I took my mountain bike there for the first time and missed the sign at the Poppy Ave entrance that the trail was one-way. But the neighborhood Karen helped me realize my mistake and even took my picture to make sure I didn’t make that mistake again. If you’re a safe cyclist who can moderate speed and follow the one way, it’s a wonderful trail. Just don’t expect the local hikers to welcome you.
Really nice trail for hiking, or biking for the adventurous. Theyre parts with a lot of shades and covered with vegetation. Nice off-road experience. Its supposed to be 1-direction, so be sure to start from the right trailhead on Fifth Ave.
Great hikes. Has a stream and is also mostly shaded.
The Buck Gully Reserve is an absolutely beautiful location for sunset photos, and casual walks or runs along groomed pathways and hiking trails from morning and into the evening. Sunsets views are some of the best in Orange County Convenient parking which gets very busy during the sunset viewing hours. Arrive early and enjoy the sun throughout its colorful setting over the Pacific Ocean horizon.
It was a fun trail. The only bath thing is you have to share it with bicyclists
Beautiful trail right between CDM and Newport Coast...a smidge tight.... mostly single file
A quick and tiny escape to pretend you’re not in Orange County for 30 mins or so. Especially, great in the spring time decorated by the wild flowers and overgrown trees.
Ok walk, not too many people (too many bikes for the small path). Good day for a hike but no loop, had to use the road for the return trip.
Fun walk. I wouldnt recommend taking little ones. I seen rattlesnakes there. Also cell service is terrible I say that in case of an emergency. Other than that if you have a bike ride it!
Its very wild trail where I liked it but its really wild and be aware of snakes
It speaks for itself.
Its a nice place to smoke some bud and think about life. There isnt much parking but thats because not many people stop by. Its cool I recommend it
This is more of a view area. I walked all the way along on the highway for about 2 miles. It is very nice and quiet in the reserve but the highway is very loud with 60 mph speed limit. Lots of people riding their bikes along side of the canyon. I did not explore the canyon very much. I could see doing it on another occasion. Its a very dry canyon.
Nice trail for hiking, 2 miles out and back, but you got to watch out for bicyclists on the narrow sections of the path
The view when you reach the top
Such a beautiful and easy hike. Our 5 year old made it half way!! The brook that runs through it is so peaceful.
Preserved wilderness in Corona Del Mar. Lots of greenery, biodiversity (at least in April 2019 after heavy rains), signposts at trail junctions, footbridges over stream. Enjoyable hike if the leader isnt a tiger hiker.
Its a nice surprise hidden in Corona del Mar. A nice little trail where you can hear and see a small stream running along near the trail. I saw bunnies and quail as well as some prickly, bright green, giant seed pods (that looked like they were from outer space) during my hike. There are still lots of blooming wild flowers, but they are beginning to wane. Not sure this will be as pleasant a hike once they are gone. You do a lot of walking up and down small hills when you do this hike. But I think its manageable for most people, very manageable! The reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because it isnt a really remarkable hike compared to others in parks or along the beach. But it is a nice surprise that you dont have to drive far out of town to find and enjoy.
It is a beautiful trail, but I only give it three stars because you cant bring dogs.
Hidden urban gem of a hike or bike trail. If you hike you need to look out for mountain bikers! If you bike, look out for hikers (moderate your speed on the downhills. For bikes, I recommend going uphill only on the weekends.Update: I have been told that the trail is now illegal to ride in the downhill directon, and you can be ticketed.
Very nice trail. Nature reserve with great scenery.
Great views... Hoping to explore a little more soon
This is an easy hike for beginners or when you want to do something different instead of your regular walk. The great thing about this trail is that its in the heart of Newport Beach AND a completely natural environment. Take a break from the beach and the bars and hike the Buck Gully Trail!
This is a hidden gem. Youll see people hiking around but its not over crowded and youll find it to be a really cool hike.
Easy walk, its a nice leg stretcher. Not really scenic, but the trail follows a small creek and some sounds of nature are nice to hear. Also mountain bikers using the trail -- its a narrow trail so be on alert.
Very nice spot to sit and watch the sunrise. Some great looking trails Ill have to go back and hike when I dressed for a walk.
This was an amazing boat tour!
Great spot
Beautiful hidden gem in Newport Beach! A bit of wilderness in the posh suburban jungle. Watch for the mountain bikers, they go FAST and will run you down.
A pretty nice trail for families. Fairly easy and clear trails to walk through that still feels like you are away from the city.
Excited to go on a hike, we followed Google Maps to the address of the trail head. We found a path and began our journey. Within minutes we looped back to exactly where we started. After spending another half hour trying to find trails (bushwhacking), we ended up giving up. Later studying the map of the area, we realized that the trail head is not properly identified. Observe caution and make sure to look at a map before going there - the directions take you to the wrong place to start.
Always a great weekend hike, always make sure you prepare ahead and expect an hour and a half hike in the worst cases also it is better to start at the bottom hiking uphill and finish down hill
Good hiking trails and beautiful seenery,
Fun hike with some good hills. Great for groups or just with you and a buddy.
A nice little stop with a beautiful view of the Gully the ocean and some awesome houses
Beautiful trail and I love the elevation.
Great place to bring the family for picnics or just enjoying the site and view
The trail is very easy coming from the Oasis Senior Center. It leads straight to the Buck Gully trail and then you could choose to go straight to the San Joaquin Hills. Or turn left for the Bobcat trail. I liked the sound of water cascading from the sides while hiking.
Great for a short hike, but dont bring your dog.
A very easy and secluded hike through a brush filled desert canyon. Area is clean and quiet.
This place is amazing! What a gem tucked away in the middle of suburbia. Trail is amazing, well thought out and well maintained. Be courteous to those who maintain the trails, without them it wouldnt be there!
Love it
Nice out and back trail with lots of shade along the way. Many stream crossings also
Great hike, my girl and I loved it
What a beautiful view
Great walk easy to medium difficulty, perfect!
Excellent trails, can catch glimpses of wildlife in the brush. Theres also a cool ravine you can walk along. Free parking.
Some sections are too tight to share with bikes
Amazing hidden gem in the valley between San Joaquin hills and New port coast. It features a pleasantly remote single track with a few bridge crossings. Wonderful place for a hike or off road bike ride.
Good hiking trail, just a little to crowded for my liking
It is a placeVery beautifulTo have a good time with youFamily
This is the lost heaven! All of a sudden the highway turns into a magical uncanny canyon! I cant describe it. Do your homework and get there!
Nice hike, pretty fun, good for CrossFiters who enjoy trail running, or walking casually.
Nice hidden hike
A very nice 5 mile round trip hike.
Top Word.
Peaceful wheelchair accessible trails overlooking a large gully. No toilets, but there are a few benches and tables if you want to picnic.
Beautiful view, if not super hot.
Seems like this should be labeled PRIVATE reserve.
Great place to hike. Rarely see anyone in here. Youd hardly even know this exists right in the middle of suburban sprawl.
Great trail for hiking or mountain biking
Nice to take a walk
Nice little walking trails and some good views for being in the city.
For an urban hike, its very good.
Narrow trail with dense vegetation follows this year round creek.
Nice place for hiking
Very nice, manicured well with nice views
A good beginners trail
Great little escape in an otherwise busy place.
A wonderful hike or MTB route from Newport Coast to CDM.
Great place for a light hike with you dog
Just a little hidden gem, between the Irvine company greed.
Not go in this place really bad.
Green is great
It was a pretty walk but we had to turn back when a massive storm blew in. As there were no maps at the outset or near the outset of the walk it was hard to plan our walk.
Nice little walk
Amazing view
Nice
Nice place to relax
Nice steep trail
Having fun with friends.
The loop is awkward.
Yeah yrah
